Every congresscritter now has an email address, thanks to Sunlight and EFF

Many congresscritters don't have public email addresses -- instead, they have hard-to-locate webforms that slow down activist email campaigns and make it harder for constituents to get in touch. EFF and the Sunlight Foundation has fixed this, giving every member of Congress her or his own email address -- an address that you can send to that will be automatically forwarded through the appropriate webform.
Sunlight has some spam-checking to stop this from being abused, and gathers some of the other information the forms collect so that they can be fully populated by the scripts. Once you're setup in the system, you can email "myreps@opencongress.org" and your message will automatically be forwarded on to you senators and house reps.
88% of Congressional staffers say that their bosses' decisions are affected by constituent email. The data and scripts are up on Github for you to build on. Read the rest

Gif of the Day: One of the Best Cricket Plays Ever
Zackc43Cricket makes no sense whatsoever.
If the ball had landed outside the boundary without bouncing first, the batsman would have scored the maximum possible runs from a single shot - 6. If the fielder catches the ball, he's out. However, if the fielder catches the ball but then steps outside the boundary, the batsman scores 6 runs again. What you see here is the fielder attempt to catch the ball, but realise that he can't do that without stepping the boundary. His teammate has read the situation and is supporting him within the boundary. When the initial catcher pushes the ball to his teammate (while still in mid-air) the catch is made and the batsman is out.

John Oliver Brilliantly Lays Out All The Reasons To Hate FIFA
We spend a lot of time talking about what a cartoonishly corrupt organization FIFA is, but sometimes it feels like there's not enough time in the day to do a proper rundown of everything there is to hate about Sepp Blatter and his goons. Thankfully, John Oliver is here to give FIFA the comprehensive takedown it deserves.

Mark Teixeira's Fake Talk Show Is Actually Pretty Funny
I had no idea that Mark Teixeira has a fake talk show, which comes off as some kind of cross between Between Two Ferns and The Chris Farley Show, and I am upset about that because Foul Territory with Mark Teixeira is pretty funny. This is a surprising development, as I always just assumed that Mark Teixeira had the personality of a lukewarm glass of milk.

Things Adults Do – a Twitter investigation
One thing I forgot to mention in the “What I’m doing roundup” last week was my dumb twitter account Things Adults Do.
It’s simple: I find people saying “I am an adult”, and I retweet them. Over time, this paints a comprehensive (and, may I say, delightful) picture of Things Adults Do.
Some examples:
I just spent 6 bucks on my very own kazoo because I am an ADULT HUMAN and I will BUY WHAT I WANT with the MONEY MY MOM GIVES ME

Which Sports Network Wastes The Most Space With Its Scores Ticker?

When ESPN introduced the "BottomLine" as an experiment on its new ESPN2 channel nearly 20 years ago, few expected the feature to become as ubiquitous in sports broadcasting as it has. Today, nearly every cable sports net has its own version of the scores ticker, and in an industry that clings to convention it's astonishing how few standards exist for what's now commonly called a bottom line.
Feminism and tech: an overdue and welcome manifesto

Alan writes, "A group of nine women involved in the tech industry have posted a manifesto listing some of the awful sexist things that have happened in tech during the past few months. The women frame this as a simple statement: 'we really just want to work on what we love.' But the reality of the industry and the societies in which we do our tech work make this far from simple."

Your State's Most Popular Unique Google Search Is Super-Embarrassing

There is one search term that your state Googles more than any other state and, unless you live in Maine or Tennessee, it's probably really, really embarrassing. Estately compiled these unique searches, which range from the sad — Arizona's "Conjugal Visits" — to the disturbing — Missouri's "Family Circus."
