Sony Pictures has reached a settlement with former employees in a lawsuit related to the devastating hack it suffered ten months ago, a breach which saw large amounts of sensitive company information leaked online. The lawsuit, which is still pending class-action certification in a hearing set later this month, is a combination of seven different lawsuits brought by former employees whose social security numbers, medical records and other sensitive personal information were part of the data dump.
Details of the settlement were not disclosed. Sony and the plaintiffs have asked that the class-action certification be pushed back 45 days while both parties await the approval of the settlement. Deadline first reported news of the settlement earlier today.

The hack, one of the most damaging corporate cybercrimes to date, brought a frightening new awareness to how vulnerable corporate data can be to outside attacks. The culprits were initially thought to be related to North Korea, but those assertions, including some from the US government, were disputed by security experts. As a result of the hack, a high-profile corporation was brought to its knees and hackers exposed the inner workings of a secretive industry.
Sony is still dealing with the aftermath of the event, which culminated with studio co-chair Amy Pascal stepping down in February. Sony's legal situation was further complicated when WikiLeaks published around 30,000 documents from the leak in a searchable database back in April of this year, information from which is still surfacing. Using WikiLeaks' tools, The New York Times confirmed Tuesday that Sony Pictures executives forced changes on an upcoming and controversial film, Concussion, about the brain-damaging effects of football on older players, all in an effort to appease the NFL and avoid potential litigation.

عندما أطلقت مايكروسوفت نظام التشغيل ويندوز 8 سمحت للبرامج بعرض بعض التنبيهات مثل إدراج أيقونة جديدة بين قوائم التطبيقات في قائمة أبدأ، لكن لم يكن هناك مركز تنبيهات رئيسي يجمع لك كل الإشعارات في مكان واحد.
لكن مع ويندوز 9 يبدو أن الأمر قد يتغير حيث تسرب اليوم مقطع فيديو يظهر فكرة مركز التنبيهات والإشعارات من التطبيقات الأخرى يعمل على نسخة اختبارية من نظام التشغيل.
وفكرة المركز مشابهة لما قدمته مايكروسوفت مع ويندوز فون 8.1 على الهواتف الذكية حيث يمكنك حذف إشعار معين أو إزالة كل الإشعارات بضغطة واحدة فقط.
من خلال الفيديو يوضح أن بعض البرامج مثل سكايب يمكنها عرض إشعارات بأحدث الرسائل التي تصلك إلى مركز التنبيهات بالإضافة إلى تنبيهات النظام نفسه مثل رسالة إزالة ذاكرة التخزين الفلاشية وغيرها.
ويبدو من خلال الفيديو أن مركز التنبيهات لايتيح لك التفاعل مع التنبيه، مثلاً لايمكنك الرد على الرسالة من نفس المركز بل ستحتاج للضغط عليها لفتح برنامج سكايب. وبكل حال فإن هذا الفيديو في مراحل الإختبار الأولية وقد تضيف مايكروسوفت لاحقاً تطوير لها وتتيح التفاعل مباشرة.
ونفس النسخة التي تم عرض الفيديو عليها تظهر الإضافات الجديدة مثل أيقونة البحث و خيارات تشغيل تطبيقات واجهة مترو على سطح المكتب بجانب زر ابدأ.

Steven Spielberg is trying to bring back Minority Report, according to The Wrap and Deadline. The director is reportedly working to turn his classic sci-fi film into a television show, which would be produced by his company Amblin Entertainment. Amblin is reportedly looking toward Max Borenstein, writer of this year's Godzilla, to write and create the series — it isn't clear if Borenstein has signed on just yet, but he has been thanking people who congratulate him on Twitter. While The Wrap suggests that a major actor would be considered to lead the show, Deadline notes that the project is at the "very early stages of development," with the pitch process likely starting tomorrow.
It's easy to see how Minority Report could make for a great TV premise. The film, which focuses on a law enforcement unit that uses premonition to stop "murderers" before they can commit their crime, is at its core a crime story — and there's no shortage of successes for those on TV. It's clearly quite early in the show's development, so, should it get made, it's not said whether it would take a monster-of-the-week format or work as more of an overarching drama, which its story might lend to. Either way, it's a shot at bringing some good sci-fi to TV.
Kevin Spacey isn't content with just acting like a president on TV — he thinks he can impersonate Bill Clinton himself. In a new video to celebrate the former President's 68th birthday, Spacey (in character as House of Cards' Frank Underwood) tries to pull the wool over Hillary Clinton's eyes during a prank call. Spacey tries to do some snooping and figure out what Hillary's getting her husband, but sadly it's to no avail. Instead, the former Secretary of State provides her typical response of late: "This is a very personal decision I will make when I'm ready." 1- الضربة الأولى
مخطئ من يظن أن أول لمسة للكرة كانت بقدم لاعبي فريقي البرازيل وكرواتيا في المباراة الافتتاحية، بل كانت أول لمسة اعلنت اقلاع البطولة هي عبر “قدم” Juliano Pinto.
عملياً ليست عبر قدمه. لنتعرف أكثر عن هذا الموضوع.
Juliano Pinto هو رجل مصاب بشلل أي لايمكنه تحريك أطرافه أبداً، لكن ليس بعد الآن بالإستفادة من اختراع علمي ظهر بداية العام الجاري حيث تمكن العلماء من التحكم بأذرع آلية عن طريق المخ فقط.
وهذا يفتح الباب واسعاً أمام المشلولين، حيث يمكنهم ارتداء بدلة روبوتية تدعى exoskeleton ويتم ربط هذه البدلة مع الدماغ لتلقي الأوامر العصبية وبالتالي التحرك وتدفع الأعضاء البشرية فتحركها.
هذه البدلة التي ارتداها Pinto عمل على تطويرها أكثر من 150 عالم و باحث يقودهم عالم الأعصاب البرازيلي الدكتور Miguel Nicolelis ضمن مشروع يعرف بإسم ” امشي مجدداً” walk again. ولهذا الطبيب بحث علمي مثبت منذ عام 2003 اجراه على القردة حيث تمكنت من تحريك ذراع افتراضي عن طريق الدماغ فقط، أي بدون استخدام عضلات ولا حركة، فقط سيالة عصبية.
ارادوا من خلال استعراض احتفالي في كأس العالم لفت أنظار العالم إلى هذه البداية لمستقبل واعد قد يتمكن بعده المشلولين من التخلي عن الكراسي المدولبة.
وتستخدم هذه البدلة الروبوتية التي يرتديها المريض لمساعدته على تحريك أطرافه خوذة تربط مع دماغ المريض لتلقي الإشارات الكهربية العصبية والتي يتم ارسالها لاسلكياً إلى كمبيوتر لتفسيرها و اعطاء الأوامر بالتحريك.
صنعت البدلة من خليط من البوليمرات الخفيفة وبإستخدام الطابعة ثلاثية الأبعاد، وتحافظ على توازنها من خلال حساسات الجيروسكوب التي تدعم وتؤمن انحناء القدم.
البدلة مزودة بمصدر طاقة من البطارية التي تسمح بإستخدامها حتى ساعتين.
وهناك حساسات على الأقدام تتعرف على المادة التي توجد أمام القدم، كرة أو حجرة أو خشبة مثلاً، وكذلك تتعرف على الضغط والحركات وتنقل بياناتها إلى محرك اهتزاز الكتروني يوجد على ذراع المريض لتحفيز جلده. وبتكرار المحاولة يستطيع المريض الشعور بقدمه أكثر.
تقنية خط المرمى
لأول مرة تستخدم هذه التقنية في كأس العالم وذلك بعد نجاح استخدامها في بطولات سابقة مثل كأس العالم للأندية في اليابان 2012 حيث تطلبت استخدام كاميرات عين الصقر البريطانية و تقنية الحقل المغناطيسي والكرة الخاصة.
وتفيد هذه التقنية لمساعدة الحكام في التأكد من أن الكرة عبرت بالكامل خط المرمى خاصة عندما تكون في الهواء وبهذا يكون الهدف محققاً.
وتعتمد هذه التقنية على 14 كاميرا عالية السرعة مثبتة في الملعب تركز كل سبعة منها على مرمى واحد وتتبع حركة الكرة بسرعة عالية ويتم تقاطع صور الكاميرات مع بعضها لإعطاء أدق صورة عن موقع الكرة بدقة بالتالي لو كانت احدى الكاميرات لاتستطيع التقاط صور للكرة لوجود لاعب أمامها مثلاً يمكن للبقية تعويض ذلك.
تنقل كل كاميرا الفيديو المسجل إلى كمبيوتر مركزي يقوم بمعالجته ويزيل الأجسام غير الكروية ليبقي فقط العنصر الأهم وهي الكرة حيث يمكن للكاميرا تمييز عبور الكرة بالكامل خط المرمى بدقة 4 مليمتر وحينها ترسل إشارة مشفرة إلى ساعة الحكم تقوم بالإهتزاز لتعلن تحقق الهدف خلال ثانية واحدة.
التصوير بدقة 4K
سوني هي الراعي الرسمي لمعدات التصوير لكأس العالم، وفي شراكتها مع الفيفا قامت بتصوير ثلاثة مباريات بالكامل بدقة 4K Ultra HD على الرغم من أن أجهزة الريسيفر لدينا لا تدعم هذه الدقة وكذلك ستحتاج لجهاز تلفاز خاص بدعمها لتلاحظ الفرق بالفعل.
الخطوة هي رمزية وذلك لتقول سوني أنها جاهزة لهذا المستقبل منذ الآن، وهي ترويجية أيضاً لمنتجاتها لاسيما من أجهزة التلفاز بدقة 4k التي تبدأ أسعارها من ألف دولار.
وأيضاً ستنتج سوني بالتعاون مع الفيفا فلم كامل عن بطولة هذا العام بدقة 4K يتضمن مقاطع من المباريات بما فيها النهائية وستوزعه الفيفا عبر الانترنت، وطبعاً ستحتاج شاشة بدقة 4k لتستمتع به كما يجب.
وتبلغ دقة 4K بالبكسلات 4096X2160 بكسل وتسمى 4K لكون البعد الأفقي فيها قريب من 4000 بكسل حيث أن حرف k يرمز إلى الألف.
ويتوفر حالياً في الأسواق العديد من شاشات بهذه الدقة حتى هناك حواسب لوحية ومحمولة لكن يعيبها أن سعرها مرتفع للغاية. ولكن كل شاشة 4k يمكنها أن تعرض كثافة ألوان تساوي 8 مليون بكسل، أي اربعة أضعاف كثافة ألوان الشاشات بالدقة الكاملة Full HD.
و 4k ليست أحدث ما نعرفه من ثورة الألوان والبكسلات، هناك أيضاً نظرياً دقة 8k لكن لا توجد بعد أية منتجات تدعم هذه الدقة الخارقة حيث تصل دقة العرض إلى 7680×4320 بكسل.
كرة Brazuca
كانت كرة جابولاني الرسمية لكأس العالم 2010 كارثة للاعبين و الحراس، حيث أن سطحها الأملس جعل الهواء يؤثر كثيراً في حركتها فتطير في اتجاهات غريبة وبالتالي لم يتمكن اللاعبين من توجيهها بشكل صحيح إلى المرمى وكذلك الحراس لم يعرفوا بدقة كيف عليهم أن يقفزوا للإمساك بها.
وبعد هذا الخطأ الفادح عادت أديداس لتصميم كرة Brazuca لبطولة 2014 وقالت الفيفا أنه طيلة عامين ونصف من الأبحاث على تطوير وصقل الكرة أصبحت Brazuca أكثر كرة قدم تم اختبارها وبالتالي نالت شهادة الناسا لأفضل ديناميكية هوائية لكرة كأس العالم.
وفي صنع الكرة استخدمت أديداس لوحات سداسية لتحسين التجانس والكفاءة وتعزيز الإستدارة والسرعة في الهواء.
قالت ناسا أن الحدود الفاصلة بين اللوحات في كرة برازوكا أعمق من تلك في كرة عام 2010، وتم تغطية هذه اللوحات بنتوءات صغيرة جداً. ويهدف هذا التصميم إلى توجيه تدفق الهواء حول الكرة لدفعها للحركة بسرعة أكبر وتوجه أكثر استقامة.
و أوضح رئيس فرع فيزياء الهواء التجريبي في مركز أيمز التابع لوكالة ناسا في كالفورنيا أن هناك طبقة رقيقة من الهواء تتشكل بالقرب من سطح الكرة وتسمى الطبقة الحدية، وطبيعة هذه الطبقة وسلوكها يعتبر ضروري جدا في أداء الكرة”.
وبالتالي فإن النتوءات الصغيرة والحدود الفاصلة العميقة تتسبب في اضطراب الهواء في تلك الطبقة حول الكرة، مما يؤدي إلى انخفاض الضغط خلفها وبالتالي إبطائها.
ومن خلال اختبار الكرة في نفق الرياح في مختبر مكيانيك الموائع قاموا بنفخ تيار من الدخان حول الكرة يتم تمييزة بأشعة ليزر لتعزيز الرؤية وبالفعل ظهرت اختلافات ملحوظة في تدفق الهواء عند تغيير السرعات.
وخلصت ناسا إلى أن التأثير ظهر عند سرعة 48 كم في الساعة، وكان أقل وضوحاً عند السرعات الأعلى مثل 50-55 كم في الساعة وهي السرعة النموذجية للركلات.
بخاخ التحديد
من التقنيات الجديدة أيضاً في كأس العالم هذه السنة هي رش البخاخ لتحديد خط وقوف حائط الصد و كذلك الكرة عند الضربات الحرة.
حيث أن قوانين كرة القدم تنص على ابتعاد حائط الصد عن الكرة مسافة لاتقل عن 10 ياردات ( 9.14 متر) لكن معظم اللاعبين لايلتزمون بهذه المسافة ويقتربون أكثر من الكرة ما يعزز احتمال ارتطامها بهم.
ولحل هذه المشكلة أصبح الحكام يرشون سبراي مخصص لتحديد مكان ضرب الكرة و خط مكان وقوف حائط الصد بالتالي لا أحد يغش.
استخدمت هذه التقنية لأول مرة في كوبا أمريكا 2011 وبعدها تكرر استعمالها في عدة بطولات عالمية.
يحمل حكم الساحة عبوة تعمل بالغاز المضغوط تتألف من 80% ماء و 17% غاز البوتان و مكونات اخرى تؤلف الرغوة، وعندما يتغير الضغط يتوسع البوتان وتتشكل قطرات صغيرة منه وبعدها يتبخر في الهواء ويبقى الماء و الرغوة.
بعد دقائق قليلة من تعرض الرغوة للهواء و الضوء تختفي وتتلاشى مع العشب بالتالي لا تترك أي أثر ورائها لذا يمكن استخدامها عدة مرات في كل مباراة بدون ترك خطوط بيضاء على أرضية الملعب.
تحسين البنية التحتية للإتصالات
لما يزور البلد مئات آلاف الناس سواء لحضور المباريات أو للسياحة بمناسبة البطولة، يعني ذلك ضغط أكبر على البنية التحتية للإتصالات، لهذا يجب أن تكون جاهزاً لتلبية هذا الطلب الكبير.
وسرعت شركات الإتصالات في البرازيل من وتيرة العمل لنشر الشبكات اللاسلكية في البلاد حيث ارتفع عدد نقاط الإتصال من 78 ألف إلى 700 ألف نقطة اتصال. كما عملوا على زيادة نطاق تغطية شبكات الجيل الثاني والثالث والرابع لاسيما في المدن التي ستستضيف المباريات.
While the future of Google+ may be up in the air, there's no doubt that its comprehensive photo service is among the best free options available for backing up and online editing. Now, Google is trying to make sure people actually do something with the photos they shoot by launching Google+ Stories. Just as Google+ already has auto-backup and auto-enhance, this new feature is perhaps best explained as "auto album." The new feature analyzes the photos you upload to Google+ or Drive and pulls together an easily sharable "story" — a day-by-day timeline of photos, "auto awesome" GIFs, videos, and other content meant to give you a representation of moments in your life that were important enough for you to photograph in the first place.
"With Stories, we're trying to solve three major user pain points," says Ben Eidelson, a product manager on the Google+ Photos team. "First, it's simply too much work to curate your photos." Stories solves that by using the same technology that pulls out and displays highlighted photos in your Google+ account to group dozens of similar photos — for example, snaps from your weekend in Napa or a week-long trip to Hawaii. It then curates them into a representative group, cutting out duplicates and blurry photos to bring your best shots to the front.
"Second, we don't think an album is enough to capture and be able to tell the story of your life," says Eidelson. Instead of as a grid of collected images from a day or week, Stories presents itself as a left-to-right timeline that you can swipe through. The small amounts of animation and varying photo sizes make it feel more like a printed photo book come to life, and Google also bundles in information about any noteworthy locations or landmarks you might have visited.
"We're improving on the staleness of a [photo] album."
"We’re improving on the staleness of an album," he says. "An album is this great container of content, but if you think about it, it doesn't capture any sense of time or place." Stories include big, full-bleed images that break up your trip into days, and included maps show where exactly you visited. Surprisingly, Stories can do this even if your image aren’t geotagged. Aside from geotagged photos and Google’s own location-history feature (the same tool used by Google Now to know your commute, for example), Stories also uses landmark recognition to scan and identify buildings, statues, or natural wonders like the Grand Canyon. Once it recognizes those items, it can group those photos accordingly.
The last major problem Stories is attempting to solve is sharing — the common concern that users will go on a trip or just a long day around town, take dozens of photos, and never do anything with them. "We want people to share photos or a video at the time they actually experience the moment," says Anil Sabharwal, director of the Google+ Photos team. "Otherwise you have things sitting on your hard drive for years and years before you share your baby's first step — even though she's now in high school."
While the big draw of Stories may be its automation, Google lets users tweak their collections extensively as well. Google+ is smart enough to wait a bit before generating a story, giving users time to upload photos from their cameras as well as their smartphones. The story can be edited by users photo by photo if they want to spend the time. "I didn't do anything to tell Google where I was or what I was doing," says Eidelson, showing off a story from a week in Mexico. "I just lived my life."
For those who just want to trust Google’s algorithms, however, they’ll get new stories created when they take lots of photos in a small amount of time, and Google will also go back and make stories out of the photos already uploaded to users’ accounts. That’s both a blessing and a curse — my account had a number of stories for notable events, but Google also created a story out of some random photos of my dog at the park and household objects I was putting on Craigslist. If you have a lot of photos in your account, expect to take some time cutting down on the noise.
Time will tell if Stories is a solution in search of a problem
There’s also a question of whether photo sharing has moved beyond what Google is trying to solve with Stories. There’s no doubt that Stories are easier to create than actually going through your vacation photos and assembling a nice album — but with Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, many people now share their lives and experiences as they happen, in real time, rather than afterwards. For many, a handful of Instagram uploads every day may be a better way to share than something as elaborate as Stories.
That said, there’s little reason not to do both, particularly if you’re the kind of photographer who takes hundreds of photos on a given weekend. If you’re already using Google+ to manage your photos, Stories are easy to create, totally customizable, and provide yet another incentive to stay in Google’s ecosystem. Stories launches today as part of a new Google+ app for Android as well as on the web, and the service will be coming to the Google+ iOS app "soon."

Speaking to Walt Mossberg at D11 this morning, Google's Sundar Pichai offered glorious news for anyone who loves the HTC One but craves an untouched Android experience: he confirmed that there is indeed a stock Android 4.2.2 version of the flagship device One coming, and it will be fully unlocked for T-Mobile and AT&T at the solid price of $599. It'll go on sale in the Google Play Store on June 26th, the same date as its $649 counterpart, the Samsung Galaxy S 4 stock edition. The new version of the device -- which will be sold in the US initially -- will come SIM-unlocked, with an unlocked bootloader and 32GB storage. In terms of radios, it will offer quadband LTE (700/850/AWS/1900), triband HSPA+ (850/1900/2100) and the usual quadband GSM / EDGE. Sadly, this means that T-Mobile users will enjoy LTE and EDGE, but won't be able to take advantage of AWS on the 3G side.
There is some give and take involved with such a device, of course; since it's pure stock, Sense-specific features (BlinkFeed, Zoe, Beats Audio and so on) won't be included, since they aren't optimized to work on vanilla Android. Still, we're quite excited to see companies like HTC and Samsung embrace the "Nexus experience" and offer choice to its users, and we're hoping this is just the beginning of a new trend.
How big of an upgrade is Windows 8.1? Put it this way: we just might need to review the OS all over again. Microsoft just unveiled the first major update to Windows 8, and it includes tweaks to nearly every aspect of the operating system: the lock screen, Start menu, Windows Store and onscreen keyboard. As we saw in some leaked screenshots, Microsoft also updated its native apps and added some new ones, including a stopwatch and fresh calculator. In some cases, the update even changes the way you interact with the OS. Yes, that means the Start button is back (sort of). You can now snap more than two windows into place, depending on your screen resolution, and also adjust the width of those columns so that it's not necessarily an 80 / 20 split. Additionally, Microsoft revamped the way built-in search works so that it's now more of a universal search engine, serving up apps, files, settings options and web suggestions.
As you might have guessed, some of these revisions are a response to feedback Microsoft has received in the past seven months. In other cases, like with the new settings menu, they were part of Microsoft's plan all along -- the engineering team just didn't get to them before it was time to ship the first version of Win 8. As we reported earlier, Windows 8.1 will be available as a free update (in preview) starting June 26th, the day Microsoft's Build developer conference kicks off. We'd still encourage you to follow our Build coverage, however, as Microsoft will be making additional announcements then, particularly with regard to its first-party apps. Also, Microsoft is only sharing a handful of screenshots today, so we'll have to wait until June 26th to give you the full visual tour. Dropbox is down -- break out the FTP client. According to readers and Twitter, the service has been out of action for just over half an hour and while you might see the green tick of syncing joy on your PC, we were still unable to upload any new files through both the internet and desktop iteration -- in fact the web interface is completely down. We're not sure if this is a server issue or perhaps a delicious new feature with teething issues, but we've reached out to Dropbox and will update when we hear back.
