A Game Where You're A Hole In The Ground

by Evan Narcisse

It started as a joke.

Ben Esposito’s Kachina began development as part of the MolyJam, an event where developers made games based off of ideas from the Twitter account that parodies Fable creator Peter Molyneux. In the video above, Esposito--who also worked on The Unfinshed Swan--shows the unusual game to Kotaku’s Patricia Hernandez and explains how falling into a hole doesn’t have to be as boring as you’d think.

PSA: Good Smile Company has a big guide to bootlegs

by Tianxiao Ma

Here's a fact that should absolutely not shock you: Good Smile Company's products are popular. They're so popular, in fact, that they're often reproduced illegally and sold as bootlegs. And even the bootlegs are so popular that Good Smile Company saw fit to create a page with in-depth guides on how to spot them.

If you want to protect yourself from bootleg hell, do yourself a favor: go over that database and learn all the telltale signs of a bootleg. With practice, you can become as good at spotting fakes as Senator Vreenak. Just be aware that in the guide, official merchandise is highlighted in red.

Not all of the things on GSC's site can be spotted at a glance - some require you to open and closely inspect the merch. Really the best advice is to buy from trusted retailers. That's not always a brick and mortar store, mind you. Veila in the c-blogs ran into a retail store that sold bootlegs, but they've since closed down. There are still plenty out there, so always be careful and be educated!

Wachowskis Team With J. Michael Straczynski For Netflix Series Sense8

by Mark Seifert

Another interesting development for original content on Netflix: Deadline reports that the Wachowskis are teaming up with J. Michael Straczynski and his Studios JMS for a 10-episode science fiction series called Sense8.

JMS is quite a busy fellow these days.

The Wachowskis’ new sci-fi drama project Sense8 has landed atNetflix with a 10-episode order for a debut on Netflix Instant in late 2014.

“We’re excited to work with Netflix and Georgeville Television on this project, and we’ve wanted to work with Joe Straczynski for years, chiefly due to the fact his name is harder to pronounce than ours, but also because we share a love of genre and all things nerdy.” They also shed some light on how the series was conceived. “Several years ago, we had a late-night conversation about the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us, and out of that paradox Sense8 was born.”

First Look at Star Wars Weekends 2013 Merchandise at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

I need the pins!!! D:

First Look at Star Wars Weekends 2013 Merchandise

I was delighted to see the logo for Star Wars Weekends 2013 as shared by my fellow author Gary Buchanan. He said the artwork gives a nod to the 30th anniversary of “Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.” I vividly recall seeing the film in theaters with my parents in May 1983. I was completely obsessed with Star Wars at the time, so I love this poster as it reminds me of my childhood. Disney Design Group artist Tyler Dumas said they had some different poster concepts, like Mickey Mouse in the Rancor pit, before selecting an iconic scene from the Battle of Endor.

Here is a look at some new items with this year’s logo coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 17, 2013.

The logo is featured on numerous items including a Disney pin, a coffee mug, a photo frame and more. Disney Design Group also created a unique Star Wars Weekends “title crawl” image for merchandise, which reminds me of the opening title sequences from the Star Wars motion pictures.

First Look at Star Wars Weekends 2013 Merchandise at Disney's Hollywood Studios, Including an Oversized Calendar With 13 Previous Star Wars Weekends Posters

We are trying a few new things this year, like an oversized calendar with 13 previous Star Wars Weekends posters. Each poster measures 12-inches by 18-inches, and can be removed from the calendar for framing. We are also introducing a deluxe autograph and photograph book (I’m adding that to the “long overdue” column). The popular Star Tours nametags using Aurebesh will be returning. This year, we will have a new black name tag for Annual Passholders only!

First Look at Star Wars Weekends 2013 Merchandise Including The Jedi Mickey’s Starfighter

I’m particularly excited about some new toys this year. Jedi Mickey’s Starfighter is amazing (insta-buy)! We will also have new Muppets action figures and new die-cast cars of Disney•Pixar “Cars” characters portraying Star Wars characters. I think the oversized Salacious B. Crumb latex character and the thermal detonator “hot potato” game are perfect for this year’s theme.

Finally, we will have new Vinylmation at this year’s event including a limited release mystery series; a Vinylmation, Jr. series with droids; and two limited edition figures – a removable, 3-inch figure of Han Solo in Carbonite, and a 9-inch Jabba the Hutt figure with a 1.5-inch Salacious B. Crumb figure.

Super Metroid Remastered

by Steve Napierski

I would really like to say that the remastered in this post’s title is used in the same way as the recent DuckTales Remastered trailer, but alas I cannot.

While not as impactfully good, this is another screenshot remaster by TJ Townsend who did Doom Remastered image last month and it is still awesome to watch.

Here’s the final version below:

The Documentary About Bronies is Here

by Amid Amidi

A pleasant surprise arrived in my mailbox yesterday: a copy of the new documentary Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony directed by Laurent Malaquais. The project raised $322,000 on Kickstarter last year, making it the second-most funded documentary in the crowdfunding site’s history.

The title tells you everything you need to know about the film, which surveys the unexpected fandom that has formed around the animated series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. Screen time is allotted to a wide range of individuals who identify with the fandom, including Bronies who serve in the U.S. military and Bronies who live abroad in countries like The Netherlands, Germany and Israel. Friendship is Magic creator Lauren Faust, and voice actors John de Lancie and Tara Strong participate in the documentary; they are credited as executive producers along with Michael Brockhoff.

I haven’t had a chance to watch the whole thing yet, but considering my association with the fandom, I’m looking forward to learning more about it. If you want to see the film for yourself, various DVD/Blu-ray/digital download options are offered at BronyDoc.com.

'Pokemon x Nic Cage' Equals Unspeakable Terror [Art]

by Matt D. Wilson

I'll come clean with you guys: I've always found Pokémon to be a little bit creepy. First off, there's the concept of forced animal fighting, and the fact those creatures are kept in little red-and-white balls. Then, there are the ... Read more
