Today’s United SportsCar race at Road America was insanity from start to finish, but one lap stood heads, tails and balls above the rest: the last one. If there’s one thing I love, it’s a good celebratory burnout . Joey Logano won the second NASCAR race of the weekend today after Kevin Harvick ran out of fuel in the lead. Logano clearly had the better fuel strategy, as he had enough left to pop a tire and start a fire doing burnouts after the checkered flag.

Augustfest has returned to St. Zachary Parish in Des Plaines for its annual four-day run at 567 W. Algonquin Road.

A new Giordano's pizzeria, offering carryout, delivery and in-restaurant dining, opens Monday in Des Plaines' Metropolitan Square. It's the latest business to fill a vacant storefront in the downtown shopping center north of Miner Street and west of River Road.

A number of residents who live near the proposed Mariano's in Des Plaines said at a community meeting Thursday night that they're happy a blighted corner will become home to the popular grocer, though many expressed concerns with the amount of traffic that is sure to come with the redevelopment.
