LOS ANGELES — Not since Pulp Fiction's fictitious "Fox Force 5" has an all-female hero team-up sounded this kick-ass.

Marvel Comics, which is already light years ahead of the entertainment industry when it comes to awesome female characters, announced its first all-women Avengers team on Friday. And they are very much in charge.

SEE ALSO: Carol Danvers, Marvel's first female superhero, is also the most powerful

The A-Force will consist of She-Hulk, Dazzler, Medusa, Nico Minoru and many others — including at least one new superhero, a "cosmically powered" heroine named Singularity.

As the Marvel Comics universe prepares to conclude its three-year Time arc and transition into Secret Wars, the new, all-female Avengers team will "take over and lead the way," according to the comic book publisher, which announced the news Friday morning. Read more...

It's not the same as bringing a Harry Potter wand to opening night of The Goblet of Fire.

Fifty Shades of Grey fans will not be permitted to bring, shall we say, tributes to certain theaters once the film opens on Friday, Feb. 13; this includes ropes, whips, ties and more

"While we welcome those guests who want to show their excitement for a film by dressing up in costume, we do not permit weapons (real or fake), or props/costumes that would make guests uncomfortable, or detract from the moviegoing experience," AMC Theaters spokesperson Ryan Noonan told Mashable.

There really is a dating app for everyone.

The Denver-based High There is a Tinder-style dating app for people who smoke weed.

Like other dating apps, users create profiles and swipe through potential matches nearby. But High There is optimized to match people based on their preferences for consuming marijuana

If a user prefers vaping over smoking, for example, the app is likely to match him with others nearby who also vape. Another key aspect is specifying your energy level when you're high; that way, low-energy couch potatoes won't be paired with energetic explorers Read more...

Babies at a second day care center have contracted measles following an outbreak linked to Disneyland in late December.

Five children too young to be vaccinated in a Chicago-area day care center have contracted the contagious virus, Illinois health officials said Thursday. The announcement comes after a baby at a Santa Monica, California nursery also became infected, prompting the center to temporarily close and 14 babies to be voluntarily quarantined.

The infected children are all under one.

Illinois and Cook County departments of public health released a statement confirming the cluster of infected babies at the KinderCare Learning Center in Palatine, a Chicago suburb. It follows the confirmed case at Samohi Infant Toddler Center in Santa Monica on Feb. 2 Read more...

If you love riding your bike but hate the sun, a solution may be on the horizon

San Francisco-based design firm Gensler proposes to take advantage of untapped resources and turn London's abandoned tube tunnels into usable underground streets

According to Gensler's website, the proposed "London Underline" aims to help clear up congestion for commuters in London and provide a safer space for cyclists

Eventually, the tunnels could even be destinations in themselves, hosting shops and art.

The plan is currently focused on specific parts of the Piccadilly and Jubilee lines that are currently out of use, but there are many more tunnels that could potentially be put to use. Ideally, the entire city would be connected underground Read more...

The Reformed Jedi Order: A club you've always wanted to be a part of

Carl Williams’ love for the galaxy far, far away started not so long ago, when he was five years old. His grandmother had taken him to see Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. By the time Episode II: Attack of the Clones came out in 2002, he had watched the original trilogy “to near death.”

Eight years later, he founded the Reformed Jedi Order (RJO) as a club at Midland High School in Midland, Mich. In 2011, the group started holding lightsaber fight events. Tony Fadell’s Google Glass will be redesigned from scratch with no public experimentation

by Quentyn Kennemer

google-glass-chris

Google had already alluded to plans to reintroduce Google Glass as a retail product at some point down the line following the product’s graduation from X Labs, but in case you were skeptical of that the point has been reiterated in NY Times’ latest report.

The publication cites an advisor to Tony Fadell in saying that Google Glass would be completely reimagined and redesigned from scratch. The ideas that spawned from the early Glass Explorers’ program will serve as a solid foundation for the new product, but there’s no reason to suggest what we’ll eventually get will look anything like the Google Glass we know.

Also potentially being put to rest are questions about whether we’ll be able to help shape the development of the project like we were able to with Google Glass Explorers’. The answer seems to be no, though we aren’t all that surprised considering the history of Fadell and his preference to keep projects under wraps until they’re ready for public consumption.

There have been far too many people jumping to conclusions and looking to ring the gong to signify the death of Google Glass (especially after Google’s earnings call last week), but there’s been nothing to suggest the exciting new product category won’t be formally reintroduced in the future. The only thing we’re still wondering about is when it will happen, how it will happen, and — perhaps most importantly — how much it will cost.

Leaked Samsung Galaxy S6 schematics show the phone copying the iPhone 6’s unsightly camera bump

by Chris Chavez

Samsung Galaxy S6 schematics 2

We’ll admit. The iPhone 6 is one sexy smartphone. But who knew the iPhone 6’s unsightly camera bump (the one they tried to hide in all their promo images) was actually a desirable trait? If this latest leak is anything to go by, it seems the South Korean manufacturer could be looking to copy more than just the iPhone’s rounded edges.

Samsung Galaxy S6 schematics 1

According to a few leaked schematics for the Samsung Galaxy i6 S6, we could now be getting our first real hard look at what the phone will look like when it’s finally unveiled on March 1st. The blueprints don’t just show us what the phone will look like, but provide us with detailed measurements showing the phone coming in at 143mm x 70.8mm x 6.91mm thin — the very same thickness as the iPhone 6 (although we’d be willing to bet that camera hump is a little larger). By comparison, the Apple iPhone 6 comes in at 138.1mm x 67mm x 6.9mm.

The schematics match up fairly closely to new case renders provided by Verus who told PhoneArena reflect the actual dimensions of the device along with, you guessed it, a fairly large camera bump. Really, the case renders don’t tell us much if anything, but you can clearly make out an IR blaster making a return on top of the device (also shown in the leaked schematic).

Samsung Galaxy S6 case leak 1 Samsung Galaxy S6 case leak 2 Samsung Galaxy S6 case leak 3

Unless Samsung engineers have pulled off some sort of black magic, we can’t imagine the battery capacity being much more than the current Galaxy S5 (it could even be less). We’re still filing this one under “rumor” for now, so take it as you will. We know, naysayers have been making Samsung/iPhone comparisons for years now, but looking at this design (so far), it’s hard to deny the similarities: home button/fingerprint scanner, more rounded corners and edges than ever before (also anodized aluminum it seems), both the billet drilled speaker and headphone jack now moved to the bottom of the phone. What do you guys think? Are we completely off base here?

Google and Mattel could be announcing an all new virtual reality View-Master on Feb 13th

by Chris Chavez

Mattel 3D View-Master

Amidst rumors of Google working a “Kid’s Mode” for Android — and their quiet acquisition of Launchpad Toys — it seems Google has really taken a liking to kid-friendly products and services as of late. Another clue? Google and Mattel are now teaming up too announce a new product that will be unveiled in an event in New York on February 13th (just a day ahead of the NYC Toy Fair).

Mattel Google View Master

Okay, so maybe not entirely new. The tag line reads, “view what’s possible,” and with an image of one of those View-Master film reels in the invite (I used to have an awesome Michael Jackson’s Thriller one). Something tells us that, with Google’s new emphasis in VR and Google Cardboard being announced back at IO, this could be Mattel’s version of 3D VR that connects to your Android device.

We wont really know until this Friday, but if I’m right, I’ll be first in line to pick one of these up.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge leaked in latest case renders

by Quentyn Kennemer

AndroidForums.com: Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge

galaxy s6 s6 edge

We’ve seen a lot of the Samsung Galaxy S6 as of late, but through all the leaks and rumors we haven’t really gotten a good look at the supposed “Edge” variant said to be on the way. That changes today, though, thanks to the gift that keeps on giving — Verus and their careless render leaks.

The case manufacturer let slip another one of their promo images for Samsung’s latest phones, and on the far right side you’ll notice the curved display of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. It should serve a purpose identical to which a similar feature served on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. That is, you’ll be able to get notifications, information about weather, appointments and time, and mini apps that you can use if you’d rather free up the main display for more complicated tasks.

Like the Galaxy Note 4, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge won’t be produced at nearly the same scale as Samsung’s tried and true straight-edged model. There should be enough supply for everyone who wants one to get one, though, and we imagine most carriers will look to offer both options once they’re available.

CNet Korea also mentions that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge will be “dual-edged” and symmetrical on both sides, though from what we can tell the leaked render doesn’t seem to depict such a design. Perhaps it’s just a bad angle, but either way we will know for sure on March 1st.

Heat Shoot Themselves In Foot With Dumbest Possible Play, Lose By One

Down one with 40 seconds left, the Heat should've had two possessions to win the ballgame. Instead, Norris Cole accidentally inbounded the ball when he was really just trying to throw it to Hassan Whiteside so that he could inbound it. Cole ended up getting the ball exactly where he wanted, but for some reason didn't think it had been a legal inbounds, so he had Whiteside step out of bounds while tossing him the ball. Whoops.

Well, now you can. The popular online video service announced a new feature on Wednesday that lets users upload multiple camera angles for a YouTube video. Viewers can then switch camera angles on the fly as they watch.

There are a few caveats, though. Only desktop users in the U.S. can play around with the feature, right now. And the only video that currently uses it is one from Madilyn Bailey, an indie artist YouTube selected as a test partner. But Bailey has a wide reach: 1.9 million YouTube subscribers, with her most popular videos — a mix of mellow covers from artists, including Ed Sheeran and Sia — easily fetching 5 million views or more each Read more...

Samsung Galaxy S6’s all-metal frame allegedly leaked, reminds us of an iPhone 6

by Chris Chavez

Samsung Galaxy S6 metal frame front back

If you haven’t been keeping up, current rumors strongly point to Samsung ditching their tried-and-true plastic and going with a more metal design for the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6. We know, we’ve heard that just about every year the Korean manufacturer prepares a new flagship release — but this time it could finally be different.

Those needing a little more proof than simply the word of “sources close to the matter,” the folks at Nowhereelse.fr have obtained a few alleged photos of the Galaxy S6’s metal frame, photographed from inside the confines of a Chinese bathroom (the worker likely smuggled the phone inside for a worry free pic).

Samsung Galaxy S6 metal frame sides

The photos give us a very clear look at what could be the sides of the Samsung Galaxy S6, and we hate to admit it but… it looks a bit like the iPhone 6 (which also looks like the Sony Xperia Z3 or even the HTC One M8). Upon closer inspection, you’ll find cutouts for the camera and LED flash/heart rate sensor, along with a headphone port and speaker grill on the bottom, and what we’re assuming is an SD card slot along one side and SIM slot on the other.

Samsung Galaxy S6 metal frame top bottom

Exactly what kind of materials will be sandwiched on the top and bottom of this phone is anyone’s guess, but according to rumors the phone will come equipped with a 5.1-inch 1440p display, Exynos 7420 processor, 3GB of RAM, 20MP camera, and 2,550mAh battery. Here’s the rest:

  • 64-bit eight-core 14nm CPU which is 50% faster
  • 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display with a 577ppi density, stunning outdoor visibility, super dim mode for late night.
  • 20MP OIS camera sensor and a 5 megapixel f/1.8 front-facing camera with real-time HDR
  • 32 / 64 / 128GB of storage
  • 2550mAh battery
  • Built-in wireless charging
  • Four hours of usage on a 10 minute charge
  • Quick connect charging
  • Samsung Pay: works with 90% of existing magnetic stripe payment terminals, and NFC payment terminals
  • Metal and glass body
  • Gorilla Glass 4
  • Cat 6 LTE

Of course, we wont really know what Samsung has up their sleeves until their March 1st Unpacked event in Barcelona. Samsung has received a lot of flak for sticking to the same stale Galaxy design year after year, but it looks like the S6 could finally be different. Well, different for Samsung anyway.

The Denver Nuggets have lost 10 of their last 11 games; last night, they trailed the putrid 76ers by as many as 28 points before cobbling together enough dignity to make the final score look competitive.
