This cosplayer has not failed Starling City with her take on Arrow. Cosplayer Lindsey Leigh calls the costume Olivia Queen, and she pieced the ensemble together to meet superhero standards. She used a broken compound bow and modified it and a quiver to get closer to what Oliver uses in The CW series.

It was back in 2010 that little Katie Goldman was bullied for liking Star Wars and the internet was quick to come to her defense. The 501st Legion stepped up and its members put together a Stormtrooper costume for Katie that really helped her to get back her confidence.

Four years later, another little girl, Allie Jorgensen, is facing similar bullying for carrying a Spider-Man lunchbox to school. News of this reached 501st Legion spokesman Brian Troyan who came up with a unique solution. He suggested to Katie and her Mom that they pass on the armor that she’s outgrown to Allie as a show of support. Troyan says of the armor:

“I think it helps them understand that they don’t need to hide who they are or what they love,” Troyan said. “Even if someone tries to make fun of them for something, that doesn’t mean they should be ashamed of it.”

Katie and her Mom loved the idea, and now Allie is the proud new owner of Katie’s armor. Now the plan is to keep the armor moving, going from one child to the next as it’s outgrown so that other kids can benefit from its use.

Joining the ranks of Star Trek’s Borg might not seem so bad if you get a snazzy eye patch in return. Atomic Girl made this robotic-looking accessory from resin. Each eye patch is finished with metallic paints and lacquer. While they’re suited for a Borg, they’d add a touch of awesome to just about any costume. The design would especially complement a steampunk ensemble.

Madtodamax painted the superhero on his wall using an image by artist Erik Von Lehmann as his guide. He projected the art onto a white wall, traced it with a pencil, and slowly filled it in with brushes and acrylic paint. Done and done. I wonder if having Batman in the room makes him feel safer when he’s sleeping…

Oklahoma City-based filmmaker Kyle Roberts just sent me this really cool trailer for a superhero-type indie movie he worked on for the past 3 years.

From Kyle:

The film had its world premiere last week at deadCENTER Film Festival to two sold out crowds, won top honors of best Oklahoma film and was the only film out of over 100 in the festival that got a standing ovation. Oh and we recently found out we got into Comic-Con!

The Posthuman Project, recently named “Best Oklahoma Film” during its world premiere at the deadCENTER Film Festival in Oklahoma City, has added another stop on its festival tour: Comic-Con International in San Diego, CA. The film will screen as part of the independent Film Festival held in conjunction with ComiC-con.

The Posthuman Project is a story about Denny Burke, a high school senior who is struggling with a lot of big changes. Things have been especially tense at home since his father left, and he’s been dealing with a physical injury that’s significantly limited what he can do. When a long-lost uncle shows up and offers him the graduation present of a lifetime, Denny and his friends soon fin themselves wielding powers they’ve only dreamed about. Enemies arrive to steal these new powers from the teenagers, vowing to stop at nothing to get them.

Can’t wait to watch the whole thing!

This brief clip is from an upcoming fan-made Warhammer 40K short film titled The Lord Inquisitor by Erasmus Brosdau. It features a Grey Knights Space Marine getting suited up in his impressive armor. The film is being created in CryEngine Cinebox which means it’s all rendered in realtime. According to Brosdau:

During the last months I have switched the render engine. Instead of V-ray I am now using the not yet released CryEngine Cinebox, a realtime solution for the creation of cinematics. I’m excited to announce that this is a world premiere showing this new teaser, rendered in realtime on one single nvidia GTX 780 ti.

And all the images you’ve seen the last weeks have been rendered in realtime as well – but nobody noticed

This is a great success for The Lord Inquisitor to be a pioneer in this area of film making and it will help the project a lot.

It’s nothing short of amazing how good this film looks and how well he’s captured the grim darkness of the far future where there is only war.

In an achievement that is both brilliant and mind numbing, Warcraft player Doubleagent leveled his Pandaren elemental shaman without ever choosing a faction. That’s the brilliant part.

As for the mind numbing part, the only way to achieve that is to never leave the Pandaren starting area. Pandarens are the only race in WoW that start neutral, however, once they reach the end of the quest chain on The Wandering Isle, they have to choose a faction in order to leave.

Doubleagent never made that choice and, as such, never left. As you can imagine, he would quickly level past the point where killing anything gave him XP, which is when he turned to herbing. In WoW, herbalism gives XP every time you pick a flower. But it’s a minimal amount and you have to pick a whoooooole lot of herbs to reach level 90.

All told, Doubleagent logged 170 days of play time leveling his Pandaren and he’ll never get to leave The Wandering Isle if he wants to stay neutral. It looks as though that will be the case as he’s planning to stay right where he is when Warlords of Draenor drops so he can pick flowers till he levels to 100.

I’ll say one thing for the guy, he’s got that whole commitment thing down.

The latest Game of Thrones cover to join the ranks of these smooth jazz and ska versions is this low brass cover. The group of 23 New York musicians includes 11 bass trombones, 6 contrabass trombones, 6 tenor trombones, 6 tubas, and 3 cimbassos. Tuba and cimbasso player Andrew Bove says the idea for the cover started about a year ago:

Two weeks ago, with the current Game of Thrones season coming to a close and the deadline approaching to release this track, they realized there was actually a 90 minute timeslot on a random Tuesday afternoon when 6 contrabass trombone players were all going to be free at once. It was time to do it. Once you get six contra players in one place, you either run away fast – or join in. Seventeen other top orchestral and commercial NYC low brass players joined them, bringing the ensemble to 23 players, and this is the result.

It’s not just an amazing cover, but a truly incredible piece of orchestration for brass instruments. In contrast, we’ve also got a fun jazzed up version by the New Orleans Swamp Donkeys.

If characters in Disney films had to charge into an epic battle, they’d have to don appropriate attire. Artist Calvin P. has imagined those outfits for various people in his Disney Champions series and didn’t just limit the redesigns to princesses. He came up with warrior looks for Elsa, Jafar, Prince Eric, Pocahontas, and many more. Even though we’ve seen some princesses as warriors already, Calvin’s designs are different and, for the most part, they’d be more effective at keeping the characters protected.

First off: If you don’t know who Nikki Finke is, let me fill you in real quick:

Finke is a Hollywood reporter. She was also the founder and editor-in-chief of Deadline.com until 2013, when the website announced her departure. Aside from a journalism resume that is pretty impressive — she’s written for The New York Times, Vanity Fair, The Washington Post, and Esquire, among others — she is also extremely feared and/or hated among the Hollywood elite, depending on who you talk to.

That being said, I bring this news to you — directly from her new blog — with a grain of salt. We’ll know more when San Diego Comic-Con happens in July.

So I had all these souvenir Comic Con bags from previous years and I wanted to do something useful with them other than keep them in my closet — so I made this dress and wore it to Comic Con. It makes me smile.

The construction is a simple one-piece wrap-around dress. I used Butterick pattern B4790.
