The Good Place Renewed for Season 2 by NBC

by Alex Gilyadov

NBC has officially renewed its hit comedy The Good Place for Season 2.

The second season, similar to the first, will consist of 13 half-hour episodes. NBC believes what series creator Mike Schur "brought us with the first season of ‘The Good Place’ was just extraordinary."

"A big thank you to Mike, the writers and cast for delivering a series in which we all take such enormous pride," NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke said in a statement.

The Good Place follows Kristen Bell's character Eleanor Shellstrop, who wakes up to discover she has entered the afterlife after being struck and killed by a tractor-trailer. She finds out from Michael (Ted Danson), her facilitator, that because of her desire to help others and do humanitarian work while she was alive, Eleanor has been able to enter a utopia called "The Good Place." However, she finds out she has been mistaken with someone with the same name, and must hide her past in order to remain in this utopia.

X-Men’s Legion Explained

by Scott Collura

The X-Men universe is finally getting a real shot at live-action TV with Legion, FX’s new series about David Haller, the very powerful, very strange mutant from Marvel Comics’ X-books. While Haller, a.k.a. Legion, isn’t an A-list player in the X-Men world, the show from series creator Noah Hawley promises to take the character to a new level of audience recognition. With the major success of Hawley’s show Fargo, both FX and comics fans surely have high hopes for Legion.

So let’s break down the comic-book history of Legion, his relationship with Professor Xavier, what his powers and abilities are, and more…

David Haller is an extremely powerful “Omega level” mutant. Of course, power runs in his family, as David is the son of Professor Charles Xavier, founder of the X-Men. Created by X-Men savant Chris Claremont and artist Bill Sienkiewicz, Legion is not a traditional superhero character in that he suffers from dissociative identity disorder (also known as multiple personality disorder). Each of his “selves” -- and he has many -- also carries with it a specific set of powers. As such, David can be a potent ally to the X-Men… but also a dangerous and unstable liability.

DC's Legends of Tomorrow: "Raiders of the Lost Art" Review

by Jesse Schedeen
Roumen.ganeff

George Lucas, you're our only hope.

Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below.

How different would the world be if George Lucas never made Star Wars? It's a film that has profoundly shaped the lives of several generations of people now, and it's practically impossible to imagine a world without characters like Darth Vader and Han Solo. That was the central idea fueling this latest episode of Legends of Tomorrow. Sure, "Raiders of the Lost Art" furthered the Spear of Destiny conflict that will clearly form the backbone of the remainder of the season, but its real success came in celebrating the legacy and importance of George Lucas.

This episode had plenty of ground to cover as it picked up where "The Chicago Way" left off last December. There was the reveal that Reverse-Flash is seeking the Spear of Destiny and now has the means to track it across time and space. There's the twist that Rip isn't dead, but rather has been hiding out in the '60s making crappy, low-budget movies inspired by his adventures. And there's the issue that Mick has been plagued by hallucinations of his late partner-in-crime. Fortunately, "Raiders of the Lost Art" juggled all that material deftly and without ever losing sight of the fun, adventurous tone that's been Legends' strongest asset this season.

Legion: Series Premiere Review

by Scott Collura

Note: This review avoids major spoilers for the first episode of Legion.

The X-Men universe is back on TV! Sort of! The new series Legion -- which debuts on FX in the U.S. on Wednesday, February 8, at 10 PM ET/PT -- pulls its main character, David Haller, from the pages of Marvel Comics. But of course, the X-Men’s live-action adventures on the big screen are not part of the MCU, and so it also goes with Legion. That means no connections to the Avengers, etc., but also it seems as though Legion will be keeping its distance from Fox’s X-Men movies as well. And judging by this first episode, that is a very, very good thing. For Legion isn’t a superhero show anyway, but it does have the potential to be the most unique and perhaps even the best comic-book based TV series to come around in quite some time.

by Eric Goldman
Roumen.ganeff

spoiler alert

Legends of Tomorrow returns this Tuesday – now airing on a new night – to kick off the second half of Season 2 with an episode that focuses on what exactly Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) has been up to since he vanished, and how it involves none other than George Lucas.

Set in 1967, “Raiders of the Lost Art” involves the team finding Rip living the life of a young film student/filmmaker, with Lucas as his classmate and colleague. And Lucas (played by Matt Angel) isn’t there just for a cameo but plays a key role in the story, which involves the timeline changing so that he never made his movies – and the team quickly realizing how much has changed for them as a result, especially for Ray (Brandon Routh) and Nate (Nick Zano).

The rock of Gibraltar is shared between two primate species: people and monkeys. The Barbary Macaques (the only wild monkey population in Europe) came to live on the upper rock long before the latest human inhabitants, the British, arrived, and now, 300 years on, there are tensions between the two. Attempts to expel the monkeys from the town with peashooters are in vain, as the animals rise to the challenges of the new game. This leads the government to resort to more drastic tactics.

Asus unveils Tinker Board - a Raspberry Pi on steroids

Raspberry Pi clones have cropped up from various sources but few come from established PC makers - that makes the Asus Tinker Board special. The board has essentially the same layout as the Pi, but uses the Rockchip 3288 chipset - the same as the one found in certain Asus Chromebooks and the Asus Chromebit. This chip is powerful enough to decode H.264 and HEVC videos all the way to 2160p @ 60fps with 10-bit support to boot. That's well beyond the capabilities of the Raspberry, making the Asus board more suitable for a media center. Having HDMI 2.0 and Gigabit Ethernet certainly help (vs....
