by David Pescovitz

Twenty-two years ago today, Nirvana played "Smells Like Teen Spirit" for the first time in public, at the OK Hotel in Seattle. This is video of the performance, five months before the release of Nevermind. The video is included on the box set Nirvana: With The Lights Out.

First photo of Radiohead

by Jason Kottke

Technically this photo was taken several years (probably in 1986 or 1987) before Radiohead officially came to be, but it features four out of the five members, back when the group was called On a Friday.

Early Radiohead

From left to right, Thom Yorke, Phil Selway, Ed O'Brien, and Colin Greenwood. This occasion marked one of the last times that Yorke smiled for a photo. (via buzzfeed)

Mashup of the Day: Chrono Trigger + Jay-Z

Crooooow

It takes a special kind of nerd to love this as much as I am loving this right now.

Mashup of the Day: Chrono Trigger + Jay-Z

Not since The Grey Album by Danger Mouse has there been a Jay-Z mashup as good as this. Kentucky-based producer 2 Mello combined Jay-Z's rap lyrics with music from the 1995 Super Nintendo role-playing game Chrono Trigger to form a collection of mashups called "Chrono Jigga." In an interview with GamesBeat, 2 Mello admitted that the project started as a bit of a joke, until he mixed up Jay'Z's "Ignorant Sh!t" with the video game song "Wind Scene" which really got him into the project. The entire album is available for download at Scrub Club Records.
