OCEANIX Busan is the world's first floating green community

by Laura Cowan

OCEANIX Busan is the world’s first prototype of a resilient and sustainable floating community. It aims to set the model for future innovations to help coastal cities threatened by rising sea levels. Interconnected residential neighborhoods of OCEANIX Busan total 15.5 acres to accommodate a community of 12,000 people.

A floating community over an ocean

Each neighborhood within the floating community is designed to serve a specific purpose — communal living space, research facilities or lodging. Mixed-use programs in each neighborhood take up about 30,000 to 40,000 square meters of space.

Underwater panels of the OCEANIX communities

Additionally, floating platforms connect to the port with link-span bridges. The OCEANIX city itself is a floating “lagoon” of recreation spaces, art and performance venues. Each platform contains low-profile buildings with outdoor terraces to connect the space externally.

An outdoor eating pavilion with wooden picnic tables

Moreover, OCEANIX Busan will grow from three starter platforms with 12,000 residents and visitors to reach up to 100,000 residents as needed. Photovoltaic solar panels and greenhouses on the platforms can expand and contract as needed as the community grows or shrinks.

An alleyway with paper lanterns strung from one side to the other

The neighborhood has six systems that generate energy. OCEANIX Busan treats and sources its own water. Furthermore, it recycles and reduces waste through programs to minimize unnecessary material usage. There is also urban agriculture to create vegetable and fruit gardens for residents, encouraging them to eat a plant-based diet.

A view overlooking a greenhouse area and the ocean

Pedestrian paths accommodate autonomous vehicles via a shared mobility program. As well, the platforms create new habitats for filtering and cleaning polluted port water. Each platform has three “performative petals.” These edges provide access to the water, regenerate local habitat and seating spaces facing the waterfront.

The interior of a greenhouse

Moreover, the living platform provides diverse and accessible housing options. Alleys are filled with local food vendors, bookshops and crafts. Meanwhile, the research platform is a co-working and maritime research hub. It will provide jobs for people looking for innovative solutions to climate change, including a habitat regeneration center, maker spaces and dorms.

An outdoor walkway

The lodging platform includes harbor-view guest rooms for visitors, organic dining restaurants and greenhouses for residents. Large winter gardens provide temperature-controlled growing conditions to produce more food than otherwise be possible in the locally cold winters. For the warmer months, screened shading and salt-tolerant vegetation offers shade and cooling.

An outdoor walkway with a stream in the middle of the community

Locally-sourced materials, including wood, create lightweight buildings that will age with a maritime historical character. Passive solar makes the most of natural daylight.

A garden green space with people farming and people walking along the pathway

The design of OCEANIX Busan was guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. They aimed to channel the flows of energy, water, food and waste to create a blueprint for a modular maritime metropolis.

Heirloom Thermos combines Chinese cultural heritage and advanced insulation technology

by Rei Padla

Heirloom Thermos Details

Not many people realize this, but thermos technology isn’t really simple. Sure, you can just easily buy stainless steel water bottles from stores, but not all are made the same.

Talking about thermos is always about the outside form. It’s also mainly about insulation because it keeps liquid hot or cold inside. But, of course, it helps that Chinese technology is becoming more advanced now, so we’re not surprised about what the Heirloom Thermos can promise and deliver.

Designer: Shenzhen Yiyuan Technology Co., Ltd.

The Heirloom Thermos is more advanced compared to other standard vacuum thermoses. It comes with Chinese aesthetics and boasts more advanced specs. The pure titanium liner is 0.15mm, which is about as thin as an A4 paper. In addition, the titanium material appears more durable as it can preserve freshness and even prevent odors.

Heirloom Thermos Production

Concept Heirloom Thermos

Bringing a water bottle or thermos is sustainable as it reduces the use of plastic bottles. It helps eliminate plastic globally, so it’s an easy and good start to becoming more environment-friendly. In China, drinking warm liquid is a thing, so a thermos or insulated bottle is a need.

The Heirloom Thermos is a thermos flash that marries innovation, design, and Chinese-style handwork. This comes with oriental aesthetics and yet is still ideal to use for modern everyday life. At first glance, it looks like any ordinary thermos, but this one is improved in many ways. It boasts an innovative stopper with an integrated thermometer. The latter allows you to check the inside temperature to ensure the liquid is always warm and perfect for drinking. The cover of the thermos comes with a magnetic suction, so it’s easy to close or open. It also works as a cup to always be ready to drink wherever you are.

Red Heirloom Thermos

The Heirloom Thermos received an Honorable Mention at last year’s DIA. It has showcased the beauty of innovation and heritage together. Finally, you have this important object that allows you to carry traditions and, at the same time, has improved technology.

Just reading about the description of the Heirloom Thermos, you’d think the technology is complicated because of the mention of having 78 parts. However, a version also shows off China’s cultural heritage—the porcelain woven bamboo weaving. This folk handicraft is used as a cover for the heirloom pot, following the shape of the thermos. It actually looks like a cheongsam with its simple yet elegant form.

Top 10 ultimate indoor gardens for hardcore plant lovers

by Srishti Mitra

Gardening is an extremely therapeutic activity, and though I may not engage in it all the time, the few times that I have, I found it really delightful and soothing. Growing, tending to, and being surrounded by plants is intensely satisfying, all your worries slowly fade away, and you are simply enthralled by nature. Indoor gardening is a modern solution that works perfectly in our modern homes. From LG’s latest indoor gardening appliance that is 3 feet tall to a plant sensor that will help you get information about your plant babies – we have a myriad range of options when it comes to growing plants within the comfort of your home! These unique, innovative, and thoughtful designs promise to take care of all your indoor gardening needs. And I don’t know about you, but I’m really considering trying one of them out, I wouldn’t mind adding indoor gardening to my daily routine!

1. Paradise

Designed to reduce domestic waste, Paradise is an automated plant cultivator and compost bin that uses integrated technology to prompt users when the compost or plants need tending. Conceptualized as a rolling cart, Paradise is comprised of modular pieces that work together to provide optimal conditions for growing plants. Starting from its top, Paradise features an LED strip that pours artificial sunlight over integrated planters located on top of Paradise’s first module.

Why is it noteworthy?

While spending more time at home has brought some much-needed rejuvenation to our interior design, it has also contributed to a global increase in domestic waste. Inspired to change that, designer Robin Akira created Paradise, a household plant cultivator with integrated compost bins and an odor-sealing lid to make use of and reduce our domestic waste.

What we like

  • Integrates greenery into our interior spaces
  • An odor-sealing lid

What we dislike

  • Could be messy to have such a design in our indoor living space

2. LG’s tiiun

Sure, a refrigerator can keep your veggies fresh… but LG’s tiiun can keep it fresher! Designed as a unique home appliance that lets you grow your own herbs and veggies the LG tiiun was announced in the run-up to CES 2022. The indoor gardening appliance is roughly the size of a dorm refrigerator, standing at approximately 3 feet tall, and features two shelves that can accommodate up to 6 all-in-one seed packages and various seed kits.

Why is it noteworthy?

The term tiiun comes from the Korean word meaning ‘to sprout’ and is LG’s way of indicating that this appliance is an all-in-one self-sufficient garden. The appliance creates a perfect microclimate and all the right conditions for the plants to grow, even mimicking light cycles so you could potentially keep your tiiun anywhere in a room without worrying about access to proper sunlight. LG’s Flexible Weather Control System creates the ideal situations for organic growth while also keeping pests at bay. An internal watering system also delivers water to the plants (8 times a day) to keep them hydrated. All you really have to do is install the tiiun and sit back while your plants grow on their own!

What we like

  • A foolproof way to grow your own veggies and herbs in the comfort of your home
  • Fun and simple even for those with no gardening experience

What we dislike

  • The form is a bit too bulky for homes with space constraints

3. The LUA

LUA Pet Plant Lighting Concept Image

LUA Pet Plant Lighting Concept Design

The LUA is one ideal solution for those with pet plants. But, of course, not many people will understand why you have such but don’t worry about what they think.

Why is it noteworthy?

For desk plants, you may consider getting this LUA. It’s a plant lighting solution that can further make your favorite plant stand out. We understand how it can be challenging to care for indoor plants because of insufficient lighting. But there are solutions like the LUA. Indoor plants help the surrounding by keeping the atmosphere fresh and clean. In addition, for some people, plants help in providing emotional stability. Just one look at your plants and you can already calm down and destress.

What we like

  • Boasts a clean, white tone for a simple and refreshing look
  • The design is very minimalist as no unnecessary wires are exposed

What we dislike

  • No complaints!

4. The Ocean Sun

Designed to be more than just your average USB-powered work light, the Ocean Sun Plant Light, as its name quite aptly suggests, features a calibrated set of LEDs that emit light similar to the light from the sun. Made primarily for indoor plants that don’t receive too much natural light, the Ocean Sun Plant Light provides them with the right spectrum of light to enable photosynthesis and foster growth… and unlike the sun, it can fit in your palm.

Why is it noteworthy?

The Ocean Sun sports a sleek, compact design with a precisely machined aluminum outer shell and a series of flicker-free LEDs that draw power from a USB-C port located on the back of the device. Each lamp comes along with its own adjustable USB-C stand cable that lets you position and angle the lamp however you want, although the Ocean Sun works with any third-party cable too, giving you the freedom to hook it up to your laptop, a power bank, or even a set of solar panels with a USB output!

What we like

  • Compact form that fits in your palm
  • High-end flicker-free LEDs

What we dislike

  • Not too sure how well plants would grow with this light

5. The Krado Plant Sensor

If something like the Krado Plant Sensor actually exists, then maybe my poor two plants had a better chance of survival. It’s the hardware component of the Leaflet Plant Care System, whose main purpose is to help people grow healthy plants. The sensor is something you put in the soil with your plants, and it will be able to transmit information to the mobile app so you will be able to adjust how you’re taking care of them.

Why is it noteworthy?

The plant sensor is able to monitor things like soil moisture, ambient temperature, humidity, and light. These are critical factors that will affect the health of your plants, and if you’re like me, that’s pretty clueless about these things, then it might give me helpful information. The app connected to it will also give you actionable guidance based on these factors like buying and shipping fertilizer, potting soil, pesticides, etc.

What we like

  • Different colored lights may indicate specific conditions that will alert you
  • 100% 3D printed

What we dislike

  • No complaints!

6. Plant Light Nº1

Drawing the fine line between a functional piece of plant-growing hardware and an elegant tabletop lighting accessory, Plant Light Nº1 turns your interior space into an ideal set of conditions for growing plants.

Why is it noteworthy?

The light comes with a neo-industrial design aesthetic, and sports a surface to rest your planter on. Above it sits a height-adjustable lamp that comes equipped with full-spectrum LEDs that mimic the light quality (color), light intensity (brightness), and photoperiod (duration) of the sun, allowing any plant to grow indoors.

What we like

  • Comes with a matrix of full-spectrum 90+ CRI LEDs that mimic the sun in a way that sets PL1 apart
  • A built-in timer allows PL1 to intuitively switch on or off, providing the right duration of light for your plants

What we dislike

  • It’s not available yet!

7. Jungle

Most commonly in homes across the world, indoor gardens are a form of biophilic design. Interpreting biophilia in a similar way, Jungle, designed by Poland-based KABO & PYDO design studio, is a planter that can hang from the ceiling and also function as a semi-flush mount light fixture.

Why is it noteworthy?

Comprised of only a few parts, the beauty of Jungle lies in the design’s simplicity. Defined by a bulbous, capsule-shaped centerpiece, Jungle is a half-planter and half-light fixture. The capsule-shaped planter emanates a warm, golden light that’s diffused with an opaque body. The opaque body softens the light and accentuates the plant life by offering an unassuming canvas for teeming greenery to drape across.

What we like

  • The simple form emphasises the beauty of the plants
  • The lamp emits a soft and soothing light

What we dislike

  • You need to stand on a stool or a little ladder to water the plants

8. Flora

Molded from jesmonite, Flora features specks of color for a modern take on terrazzo, a form of composite material originating in 16th-century Italy. Conceived as a passion project during the lockdown, the designers at Préssec Design first made Floria from concrete casting. Once they achieved their desired look for Flora, they turned it up a notch and gave jesmonite a try.

Why is it noteworthy?

Over recent years, designers have created multifunctional WFH appliances by integrating elements like hidden storage units and organizers into appliances like chairs and desks to make the workday at home feel just as efficient as it feels in the office. Today, designers from Sydney-based Préssec Design have developed Flora, a wall garden system that combines a cork pinboard with hanging planters.

What we like

  • Merges a work from home + wall garden design

What we dislike

  • Planters could break or crack easily

9. CURA

CURA is an all-encompassing plant-growth apparatus that takes care of the light and water requirements for any plant. Its automated systems can be programmed to suit the light requirements for flowering plants, air-purifying plants, herbaceous plants, or decorative plants, and when CURA’s halo-shaped lamp isn’t nourishing your plant, it can be turned into an ambient light that adds a pop of color to your space!

Why is it noteworthy?

Available in 3 sizes and across floor-standing, tabletop, and wall-mounted varieties, CURA is a halo-shaped horticultural light that’s designed to activate and promote plant growth. Powered by OSRAM LEDs, the lamp can output different wavelengths of light that help create the right growth conditions for different types of plants. CURA comes with presets for Herbs & Greens, Flowers & Fruits, Germination, Indoor Garden Plants, and more, while also handling different stages in a plant’s growth cycle, from germination to flower and fruit-bearing stages.

What we like

  • The lamp can either be programmed to work automatically or can be configured using CURA’s smartphone app, allowing you to effectively play horticulturist with your indoor plants
  • The lamp in Ambient Mode can also be configured to dynamically respond to music

What we dislike

  • No complaints!

10. The 4RESTPLANT

Rather aptly named the 4RESTPLANT (pronounced Forest Plant), this quirky little planter comes made from a porous clay, in the shape of a tree trunk – a design detail that makes immediate sense when you realize how the planter functions. Unlike traditional planters that act simply as vessels for soil and the plant, the 4RESTPLANT works quite like how nature does.

Why is it noteworthy?

Plants find their own surfaces to grow on, often clinging to a host plant like the root or stump of a tree for structure and support, while relying on the soil that’s already been aerated/loosened by the tree’s massive roots. The 4RESTPLANT works in a similar fashion – the tree-shaped planter comes with a hollow design that holds water on the inside (with a nano-silver coating to prevent the water from blooming) and features four ‘seed pads’ that are arranged on the outside, around the base of the planter. The planter’s porous design ends up wicking water outside to the seed pads, allowing them to grow by holding onto the trunk’s rough surface for structure. This basically recreates what happens in nature on a smaller scale, creating a planter that literally brings a slice of the beautiful outdoors into your home!

What we like

  • Grows microgreens and other small ferns and plants in your home with little to no effort
  • Basically recreates how plants grow in nature

What we dislike

  • There are similar designs on the market

What should these poor souls do? Hide the mirrors, get out their hats, things are going to be difficult for a while! Especially after their horrible haircut fails being featured in this gallery. There must be a pretty good story behind each of these crimes against hair: while the pandemic was a notorious era for DIY haircuts gone wrong, maybe it was an unfortunate blunder years decision, or their usual hairstylist going on vacation. Google Pixel Buds Pro with smart ANC + pressure releasing sensors are right on point

by Gaurav Sood

With the mild success of the 2020 Pixel Buds and the Pixel Buds A-Series on its back, Google is now looking to turn the tables in the ANC earbuds market with its latest creation. Yes, the long-rumored Pixel Buds Pro are here, and they pack features that will be hard to deny for even the grumpiest of users!

Announced at the Google I/O event, the true wireless earbuds are designed around the nifty little nuances that audio listeners face every day. They are more than just another noise isolating audio accessories, pitted directly against the Apple AirPods Pro. The Pixel Buds Pro will be an integral part of the ecosystem Google is creating with their latest launches at the even including Pixel 6A and Pixel Tablet. Something that tries to replicate the closely-knit ecosystem created by Apple. The ability to seamlessly switch between devices thanks to the multipoint Bluetooth connectivity and software integration. So, you could be listening to a podcast on your phone, and then seamlessly switch to your computer for Zoom calls.

Designer: Google

The new buds are designed keeping in mind the different ear shapes of thousands of people. Top that off with the advanced active noise canceling technology honed by the custom-built-6-core audio chip that adapts to the environment to provide the best isolation. Not only this, Google takes things a step ahead with the Silent Seal tech which is aided by sensors capable of adjusting the pressure in the ear canal for maximum comfort. This feature also adapts to the user’s ear and listening habits to provide apt noise cancellation in any environment.

These earbuds are IPX4 rated for water and sweat resistance making them ideal for an active lifestyle. The intuitive touch controls bring to the fore easy music toggling, volume control, and adjusting ANC and transparency modes. Calling on these buds is going to be bliss as they come with bone condition tech to pick up speech during calls. The beamforming microphones, wind-resistant mesh covers, and the voice accelerometer all combine to make sure you hear the person on the other end loud and clear, and vice versa – no matter how noisy the external environment is.

For audio quality fanatics, the buds produce clean sound powered by Google’s algorithms beaming sound via the custom drivers. All the software end tuning done by the in-house audio engineers is top-notch, and a good example is the Volume EQ feature which automatically adjusts the lows, mids, and highs depending on the volume level. This will please audiophiles who want a warm audio signature with a very balanced curve.

The dual-color design of the buds in four color options – Coral, Fog, Charcoal and Lemongrass – adds zing. In fact, Google senior vice president of devices and services Rick Osterloh said in a media briefing that the Pixel Buds Pro is the “best mobile audio hardware we’ve ever designed.”

Google Pixel Buds Pro claim to have 11 hours of listening with ANC turned off and around seven hours without them. With the wireless charging capable case, that number can be increased to another 13 hours in ANC mode. The buds will be available for pre-order from July 21 onwards for a price tag of $199 and shipping starts July 28.

Pixel Watch – The one true Apple Watch competitor has finally arrived

by Sarang Sheth

The one true Android Wear device was finally unveiled by Google at their I/O 2022 keynote, with more details coming during the Pixel Watch launch this fall.

When you think of how far Apple’s progressed with their Watch, it’s worth considering how the Apple Watch has only gotten this far because Apple controls every part of its experience. The Watch is a part of Apple’s expansive product ecosystem, feeding off the innovations of the iPhone and other devices. Apple designs the Watch’s hardware, and even its software, controlling and calibrating the Watch’s UX on every level. That’s honestly why the Apple Watch is MILES ahead of anything Samsung, Garmin, Fossil, or other companies have produced. Google’s Pixel Watch may shuffle things up.

Designer: Google

Unveiled by Rick Osterloh himself, the Pixel Watch finally puts Google in the Smartwatch market (not counting the Motorola smartwatch that was released years ago). After years of ‘will they won’t they’ and even a mildly embarrassing leak last month where someone left a Pixel watch at a bar, Google finally announced the Pixel Watch, a beautifully smooth circular watch that finally puts years of Google’s Wear OS work to fruition, along with the acquisition of Fitbit that happened in 2019. Osterloh didn’t provide too many details on the Pixel Watch (given that it won’t be officially launched until this fall), but he did dwell slightly on the watch’s circular design, its tactile crown, recycled stainless steel body, and interchangeable watch strap system. “It’s all designed to be tappable, voice-enabled, and glanceable, so you can be more present at home, at work, or on the go”, Osterloh added.

However, keen observers may have noticed that as Osterloh highlighted the Pixel Watch’s features (which include Maps, Google Wallet, Notifications, and Google Fit integration) the UI being demonstrated behind him showed a watch with a relatively dark UI – a tough yet necessary choice because the Pixel Watch has TREMENDOUSLY thick bezels. Now I’m not one to bezel-shame any device, but when you’re working with a display as small as the one on the Pixel Watch, bezels are a true enemy of usability, eating into crucial space that could be used to display a whole lot of other information. I’m being incredibly optimistic, but I really love the Pixel Watch’s design, bezel not-withstanding, and I have my fingers crossed that the device they unveil this fall will have a larger display with a smaller black band around its edge.

The world’s first 65W Travel Adapter lets you fast-charge all your gadgets anywhere on the planet

by Sarang Sheth

No larger than the size of your average travel adapter, the Zendure Passport III packs features that make it a charging behemoth and a travel must-have. With a GaN semiconductor on the inside that gives the adapter a power output of 65W, the Zendure Passport III is compact, versatile, and can simultaneously charge 6 gadgets at the same time. Designed to work in 200 countries, the travel adapter can plug into virtually any socket across the globe, and comes with not 1, not 2, but 4 USB-C ports to fast-charge all your devices, along with a USB-A port as well as a traditional universal socket to plug gadgets and appliances in.

Designer: Joe Zhang

Click Here to Buy Now: $39 $69 (43% off). Hurry, less than 48 hours left! Raised over $470,000.

Touted by Zendure as the most powerful travel adapter on the market today, the Passport III is possibly one of the only few travel adapters built on a Gallium Nitride internal architecture. Thanks to this very feature, the Passport III manages to have a power delivery capacity of a whopping 65W, and an ability to concurrently charge 6 gadgets together, while being about as compact as the adapter brick you get with most smartphones. Designed clearly for travel, the Passport III comes with switches on the side that let you deploy pins that fit into different plug points, depending on which part of the globe you are in, and the switches are lined up in a way that allows you to use the device with one hand, just in case you have the other one occupied.

Equipped with 5 ports and one universal-style socket, the Passport III can provide power to anything, from your laptop to your phone, or even the hair trimmer or hair dryer you probably have stashed somewhere in your check-in bag. A USB-C port on the side outputs 65W PD, or 45W PPS (Programmable Power Supply), letting you charge everything from your laptops to tablets, or even fast-charge your phones (it can fully charge your MacBook Pro in under 3 hours). 4 USB-C ports and 1 USB-A port on the base of the charger output 15W, ideal for powering regular devices that don’t have or need high consumption or energy demands. The universal AC outlet on the front covers everything else, while the Passport III’s built-in features like a 10A auto-resetting fuse, thermal control, short-circuit + surge protection, and power management ensure that you can safely plug in as many as 6 devices at the same time, right into one electrical socket.

Easily charge your 13 inches MacBook Pro in just 2 hours, and charge your iPhone to 50% in under 30 minutes, without any bulky proprietary chargers.

Passport III uses best-in-class Navitas Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductors.

Has a built-in intelligent auto-resetting 10A fuse to protect you from any potential hazards. It immediately cuts off the flow of power when the temperature is too high (120°C) and recovers when the temperature returns to normal.

Switch to the exact plug you need in a couple of seconds, with one hand.

Passport III creatively integrates the US, UK, EU & AU plugs into a sleek all-in-one unit. It can plug into type A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O outlets, and it accepts type A, B, C, E, F, G, I, J, L, and N plugs, so it works in over 200 countries and regions.

The Polestar O2 EV and its autonomous drone will fundamentally change the meaning of ‘driving’

by Sarang Sheth

The wind in your hair, a cinematic birds-eye shot of you in the car, ‘Can We Skip To The Good Part’ playing in the background, millions of likes on TikTok. That’s pretty much the core design brief of Polestar’s new electric vehicle, the O2, which comes with its own autonomous drone that can film you as you drive down an empty highway.

The prime objective of a car, for as long as cars have existed, has been to get you safely and speedily from point A. to B. One could argue that my previous sentence may be a bit of an oversimplification, although even something as niche as a racing car does just that – takes you from A to B while keeping the rider safe. Sure, there are a few outliers, some cars are designed to put you in the lap of luxury, other cars are status symbols, some cars/automobiles have more niche functions (tractors, steamrollers, etc.), and some concept cars exist only to showcase a company’s innovative spirit… however, almost every commonplace car’s main objective has been transportation… up until now.

The Polestar O2 capitalizes on a rising trend that’s been set by self-driving cars. Sure, the O2 isn’t a self-driving concept, but just the way self-driving cars have redefined what sitting inside an automobile means (you’re not a passenger anymore – you’re a traveler in a moving room), the O2 has shifted the focus from driving to ‘enjoying driving’. The Polestar O2, announced just today, isn’t your average EV… it’s an EV that wants you to be in the driver’s seat as well as the director’s seat. The car comes with a companion drone stashed in its boot that deploys on command, filming you from flattering angles so that you’re quite literally the star of your own Fast and Furious film. Is it sensible? It may be too soon to say. Is it intriguing? Overwhelmingly.

Designer: Polestar

The O2 is quite like Polestar’s Precept from back in 2020. It’s clearly announced as a concept car with no foreseeable future of being manufactured. The Volvo-owned company does, however, want to use this opportunity to drum up excitement for EVs and bring a new dimension of thrill to riding a car (Ford launched a gasoline-scented perfume to that very end last year). Having a drone following you around as you drive has its own appeal – it’s a wonderful cinematographic tool that really brings a new meaning to a car’s ‘performance’, while at the same time providing a nifty new trick for people who want to see what a videogame-style ‘third-person view’ would actually look like while driving.

The car sports Polestar’s signature edgy-yet-friendly language (automotive brutalism, if you will) and is based on a bespoke aluminum platform that’s adapted from the one developed for the upcoming Polestar 5 automobile. There’s really no word on what the car’s specs are, understandable given its conceptual nature, however, Polestar’s retained its old practice of focusing on sustainability with the O2. The car’s seats are made from a fabric woven using recycled polyester, and different grades of aluminum used throughout the chassis are meticulously labeled to make them easier to segregate during recycling.

Now onto the car’s standout feature – that autonomous cameraman that sits in its boot. The rear of the O2 houses a ‘cinematic’ drone developed in collaboration with Hoco Flow that can be deployed even while the car’s in motion. This aforementioned drone can follow your car at speeds of up to 56mph and has multiple flight modes to choose from, including a certain ‘atmospheric’ mode that’s perfect for when you’ve got the top down and a scenic open road ahead. Footage recorded on the drone can then be viewed and edited on the O2’s massive infotainment display, unlocking an incredibly exciting new realm of possibilities for passionate drivers, content creators, and even influencers. Cinematic Carpool Karaoke a la Polestar O2? Well, I’d certainly love to see that happen…
