People Are Freaking Out Over The Fact That Fireball Whiskey Has An Antifreeze Ingredient In It

“Totally explains why it makes me puke and make bad decisions.” Don’t panic, it’s not banned in America.

It was discovered on Tuesday that Fireball Whiskey was being recalled in parts of Europe because it contains propylene glycol, a sweetener commonly found in antifreeze.

11 Reasons Why White Chocolate Must Be Banned

Philip.paulsson

I agree with this post. White chocolate is awful.

It’s not chocolate; it’s an abomination.

First of all, white chocolate is a lie.

First of all, white chocolate is a lie.

It's not chocolate. What it is is a travesty-- an unctuous, overwhelming, greasy slab of cocoa butter, milk solids, milk fat, and sweetener. NO COCOA SOLIDS. NO CHOCOLATE. THERE IS LITERALLY NO CHOCOLATE IN IT. IT IS A LIE.

Ron Does Things / Via rondoesthings.com

It tastes like plastic nightmares.

It tastes like plastic nightmares.

You'd think that something that's all fat and sugar would taste like a morsel of heaven wrapped in unicorn dreams, but no, not white chocolate. White chocolate tastes like dropping molten plastic into a vat of diabetes and then shoving it into your gullet. IT'S DISGUSTING.

WB / Via pandawhale.com

It has a texture that can only be described as "NOT RIGHT."

It has a texture that can only be described as "NOT RIGHT."

It's so greasy and slick without the luxurious, velvety quality of REAL CHOCOLATE. Eating white chocolate is like being slapped in the face with seventeen sticks of butter and, like, if that's your fetish, fine, good for you for acknowledging your truth. But not everyone wants that. AND NO ONE SHOULD.

White chocolate is the color of things that food should not be the color of.

Oh, wow, how appetizing, a giant, greasy, yellowy-white bar of PIMPLE CUSTARD. Among OTHER THINGS. No. Get it off our plates and off this planet.

24 Surprisingly Divisive Pooping Habits

Philip.paulsson

Hahah I definitely used to take all my clothes off to poop. But only at home.

A BuzzFeed News investigation reveals that the sit vs. stand to wipe debate is tearing this nation apart.

The results of BuzzFeed's bathroom habits poll are in.

The results of BuzzFeed's bathroom habits poll are in.

Flickr: sukkulaati

During one of the dreadful late-night conversations that freshmen in college have, my roommate casually mentioned something about the annoyance of taking off her shirt before pooping.

Wait, what?

"Um, you mean you DON'T take off all your clothes to poop? Isn't that gross?" She was completely shocked that other people didn't do this. To her, getting fully nude to poop was the normal way, and it had never occurred to her that people actually pooped with their shirts on.

Our bathroom habits, especially about going No. 2, are formed around ages 3–5, and after that we rarely actually see another human actually pooping. So we have no idea if these little habits we've been doing since preschool are "normal" or not.

To find out what's really going on the bathroom, BuzzFeed created a poll — Are Your Bathroom Habits Weird? — that ran over the weekend. Over 300,000 readers voted on their habits for 24 questions ranging from crumple or fold to texting while pooping.

As is typical of any article on the internet, not everyone finished it: 386K readers voted on the first question, but only 306K stuck around to vote on the second to last. Certain questions didn't apply to everyone (i.e., tampons policy or urinal etiquette), so those had about half as many replies. Still, this is a HUGE amount of responses. This may be the largest survey in existence of pooping and peeing habits out there. This is basically the Margaret Mead of poop.

Here are the results to the Great BuzzFeed Bathroom Investigation.

This is one of the few times where I'm inclined to say 18% of people are liars, but hey.

I was surprised by this; I expected "only rarely" to be the winner. This question was inspired by an unnamed female BuzzFeed editor who insisted that everyone pees in the shower all the time, and it was weird not to. Turns out, she's right.

Meet the half-blind sanctuary owner who hand feeds his 14 big cats - including a 700lb Siberian tiger - and lets them cuddle in his bed

Philip.paulsson

I feel like this is Colin's dream life.

  • Carl Bovard lives with 14 big cats including two lions, six tigers and a lynx
  • He lets them all live in his Florida home before they go into outside enclosure
  • The half-blind sanctuary owner has been bitten on the nose by a leopard
  • He wrestles with the big cats and carries their meat straight to them

He has been bitten on the nose by a leopard and had his shoulder separated after wrestling with a full-grown Bengal tiger.

But Carl Bovard, who is blind in one eye, believes living with 14 big cats including two lions, six tigers and a desert lynx, is a risk worth taking to raise awareness about endangered species.

They all spend time living in his Florida home before moving into the outside enclosure and are seen clambering over the pool table and cuddling up in his bed.

After an accident left him blind around 13 years ago, Mr Bovard realised the main thing he missed was seeing animals – so when he regained sight in one eye he adopted his first two tiger cubs.

The 43-year-old set up Single Vision – his educational, non-profit company – nine years ago and welcomes tours to his house and 274-acre garden in Melrose where his animals live with him.

'There are many dangers that come with keeping these animals and you've just got to take all the precautions you can to stay safe,' said Mr Bovard.

'There's no doubt about the fact that death would be the worst outcome from this. I know I'm dicing with death.

'Instinctively they just know to go straight for the vitals – when I'm with them I never give them a free shot at my neck.'

Mr Bovard plays rough with the tigers, allowing them to recreate the honing of the natural hunting talents they would develop in the wild – but that does not come without its drawbacks.

'I've had a leopard bite me on the nose and I had to get that sewed back together. I've also had my shoulder separated, he added.

'I was playing with a few of the cats and another decided to join the fun. He ran at me and they can get up to around 50 miles per hour in a couple of strides – that hurt.

'But when they're growing up they play really rough together in the wild. It's how they hone their natural instincts – I can't deny them that.'

Every Sunday, Mr Bovard treks to the local Walmart, where he picks up about 1,500lbs of meat for the week as his big cats can get through 200lbs in a single sitting.

This is around $400 for food per cat. He then stores the meat in six freezers in a shed by the alligator cage.

His biggest tiger is a Siberian named Samson – he weighs more than 700lbs and is over nine and a half feet tall when he stands on his back legs.

Despite the fact that Samson could tear him in two with one swipe of his massive paw Carl still carries his food right to him.

He added: 'Some people use a guillotine system to feed their tigers but I walk the food right in.

'I have a great relationship with the animals but it changes when I have food in my hands.'

'They become very territorial. I like to keep my distance from them – I don't want to push it, they snarl and growl when you go anywhere near them but that's their natural instincts.'

He currently has two lions, two bobcats, three cougars, two Bengal tigers, two Siberian tigers and an Asian black leopard in his backyard.

The future of his facility and others like it across the USA is being challenged by a petition seeking a federal ban on licensees who allow the public to have direct or physical contact with big cats.

Despite the controversy that comes with keeping and breeding big cats in captivity, Mr Bovard believes his organisation is helping tigers and lions.

'Having these cats in captivity and being able to show them off gives people a chance to get a passion for them,' he said.

'It is essential that we keep them in captivity to create that passion in people and make them want to help these beautiful animals.

'People say to me – they belong in the wild but my question to them is – what wild?

'There are seven billion people on this planet and we are destroying the habitat of these animals.

'Pretty soon the only tigers left are going to be those in captivity and they may need to be used to repopulate the wild.

'I do what I can to give these guys the best lives possible and I want to work to ensure more tigers and lions in captivity are better treated.'

Before they go out into the enclosure in Carl's back garden all of his animals live in his modest Florida home.

He added: 'Your furniture pays the price as they're very destructive but it's important that they are socialised before going into the yard.

'We've got to get them used to being around people and other animals so inside the home is the best place for them.

'But as much as they are socialised they are still wild animals with wild instincts – these big cats will never be domesticated.

'But we have tigers and lions living together now – they would never encounter each other in the wild and I don't think they would get along if they did.'

Analysis: Worldwide PS4 sales at least 40 percent better than Xbox One

by Kyle Orland
Philip.paulsson

Wow. I thought they had been pretty even?

Getting an accurate read on how well the new generation of consoles is selling is a difficult job, and it's complicated by sporadic and sometimes vague numbers provided by the console makers themselves. After taking a dive into the most recent numbers, Ars estimates that the PlayStation 4 has sold at least 42 percent more units worldwide than the Xbox One through September. This makes Sony's system responsible for at least 59 percent of hardware sales in the two-console market (PS4 and Xbox One).

Estimating Xboxes

Determining those ratios was not a simple process. As a starting point, we used Microsoft's announcement that it had shipped five million units of the Xbox One as of mid-April. Since then, the company has only released quarterly reports on how many total Xbox systems have shipped, lumping the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One together, which obscures the new console's true market performance.

For the April to June quarter, there were 1.1 million combined Xbox shipments. For the July through September quarter, there were 2.4 million combined Xbox shipments. Add all those numbers together, and you get an absolute ceiling of 8.5 million potential Xbox One shipments through September. For the new system to hit that ceiling, though, you'd have to assume that Microsoft has shipped exactly zero Xbox 360 units in the last six months, which is obviously false.

Apple Pay goes offline at CVS, Rite Aid

by Sam Machkovech
Philip.paulsson

That was fast.

Don't expect to use your iPhone 6 or 6 Plus to pay for anything at CVS or Rite Aid in the near future.
Apple

Last week's rollout of iOS 8.1 on new iPhone models ushered in the long-awaited debut of Apple Pay. And for now, Apple is relying on major retailers—and their upgraded, compatible sales registers—to convince more people to pay the Apple way. However, in the days since Apple Pay's public debut, two major pharmacy chains have switched course and declared, "Apple Nay."

This week, Rite Aid began pulling Apple Pay support from NFC-compatible sales kiosks, and over the weekend, CVS followed suit. According to a leaked document posted by Slashgear, Rite Aid made the decision due to its involvement with a competing still-in-testing mobile payment platform called CurrentC, which CVS is also affiliated with.

As it turns out, major merchant service Merchant Customer Exchange (MCX) has been developing CurrentC since 2011, according to a report by 24/7 Wall Street. That may explain why other MCX retailers like Best Buy and Walmart have also elected not to employ Apple Pay at their registers.

Civilization: Beyond Earth—Next time, reach for the stars

by Ars Staff
Philip.paulsson

Kinda disappointing... but probably better for my sleep schedule that this didn't get better reviews.

A single blue orb floating among billions, part of a galaxy that’s among hundreds of billions, houses the sum total of human achievement. The Sid Meier's Civilization series is one of those achievements, taking the total history of that great, big ball we all live on and condensing it into perhaps the best, and certainly the most popular, 4X strategy game ever made.

Civilization has always held the sanitized, slightly goofy ideal common to all projects bearing Meier's moniker. Maybe Civilization: Beyond Earth's developers felt infinitesimal when considering the vastness of space, or maybe they were simply struck with a distrust of the future common to science fiction. Either way, the latest game in the franchise that all but defines turn-based strategy is a bit less sanitized and a bit more sinister than its predecessors.

For one thing, despite the veneer of technological and social advancement inherent in exploring life on a new planet, the future represented by Beyond Earth is frighteningly similar to that of past Civilization titles. The humans still squabble over resources, land, and ideology, and they do so in ways that are similar to Civilization V from turn one on.

The similarities make Beyond Earth feel more like a sci-fi themed Civ V expansion than a bold new direction for the series. Units are moved the same way; cities are grown the same way; resource tiles are worked in the same way. While the new victory conditions each have some pseudoscience flavor dialogue, winning is still a matter of out-researching or out-fighting opposed factions in more or less the same ways as before.

Forget a good crunch - this apple has a built-in FIZZ: Experts create sparkling fruit that bubbles when it's bitten into

  • Swiss firm Lubera have created an apple that fizzes in your mouth
  • Called Paradis Sparkling it releases juices that are like a CO2 fizzy drink
  • The effect only happens when bitten and not when it is pressed
  • Lubera are now selling sapling trees through mail order for £34 ($55)
  • Robert Maierhofer, production manager at Lubera, said: 'For an eating apple I think it is the best apple we have ever had'

The world's first 'sparkling' apple that fizzes in the mouth when eaten has been created.

Huge cells in the flesh of the brand new variety called Paradis Sparkling, release effervescent juices that is akin to having a mouthful of fizzy drink.

The sensation is only experienced when the apple is bitten into and its juices are not sparkling when pressed.

The sensation is only experienced when the apple is bitten into

The new breed has taken years to perfect. One of the two varieties used to breed the new apple is called Resi, an East German specimen known for its sweet texture.

After being allowed easier access to the East German apple, a Swiss fruit nursery visited the former Soviet Bloc country to breed it with the variety Pirouette.

The experts from the family firm Lubera spent years perfecting the breed until they achieved the fizziness of the Paradis Sparkling apple.

Lubera are now selling sapling trees through mail order for £34 ($55).

Robert Maierhofer, production manager at Lubera, said: 'For an eating apple I think it is the best apple we have ever had.

'It is definitely different to any other on the market and the texture is something that people have ever eaten before.

'It has a soft texture but a heavy crunch and very big cells that open up in the mouth, releasing a lot of acidity and sugar that gives you a feeling of having a fizzy drink.

'The juice itself is not sparkling, if you press it it is still. It is just the feeling you get in your mouth.'

Mr Maierhofer said the breeding process involved repeatedly selecting the richest apples produced from a tree to cross-breed with.
