Here's Run the Jewels' Woozy Video for 'Oh My Darling (Don't Cry)'
by Jia Tolentino
The way Killer Mike and El-P play off each other is one of the seven wonders of today's hip-hop world, and the duo is as sharp, funny, heavy and electric as ever in their new trippy video for RTJ2 standout single "Oh My Darling (Don't Cry)." It's as NSFW as the lyrics—those naked, neon-lit female dancers look great—but highlights include the pause for airplane arms at 2:20, the turn-up coda, and every second that Killer Mike (also a killer op-ed writer) is on screen.

Sound Check: Blouse
In "SOUND CHECK," we check in with some of our favorite musicians.
Often a band’s name can seem arbitrary or unrelated to their sound, but there is something about Portland trio Blouse's moniker that seems perfectly appropriate. It might be the breathy quality of Charlie Hilton’s voice, or the lush, rich music production. Whatever it is, we like the name, and we love their sound. Charlie and her bandmates, Patrick Adams and Jacob Portrait, recently broke it all down for us, check out what they had to say.
Alex Thurmond: Fill in the blanks: Our band is ______ and our music is like ______.
Blouse: Our band is Blouse and we sound like Blouse. Or a babbling brook.
If your most recent album were the soundtrack to a film, what would it be, and why?
Charlie: Probably a Todd Solondz movie that hasn’t been made yet.
What's your desert island disc?
Jake: Love's Forever Changes for me.
Charlie: Mine would be Galaxie 500, probably Today
Patrick: Queen's Greatest Hits.
Speaking of discs, what would be on your dream pizza?
Jake: Jalapeño and pineapple.
Charlie: I was thinking more like, [a dream pizza] was never even possible. But I’m just a big vegetable fan so I guess tons of veggies.
Patrick: I’d say that too [jalapeño and pineapple], but add pepperoni.
Best tour food you've had?
Jake: BBQ in Asheville, North Carolina
Charlie: Mine was Indian food at a gas station in Tennessee, actually.
Patrick: We’ve had some amazing sushi in Canada, I think that’s my favorite.
Worst tour food you've had?
Charlie: This really disgusting egg thing that had super dry carrots from a gas station. It doesn’t sound that bad, but it really was.
Jake: Yeah that was probably the worst thing we’ve seen.
Whose style did you admire as a teenager?
Patrick: Pat Smear from Nirvana, I even bleached my hair.
Charlie: I was a big fan of Drew Barrymore, I loved her.
Jake: I think mine was Patricia Arquette.
Favorite thing to do when you're not listening to music?
Jake: I love to make cocktails.
Patrick: Yeah, he made us some good ones a few nights ago, he’s getting good at it. For me, it’s so boring but I love going to the movies with my girlfriend.
Charlie: I’ve really been enjoying just sitting in the forest in Portland and reading.
If it was socially acceptable I would…
Charlie: Kiss strangers.
Jake: I was gonna say have public sex, but kissing strangers sounds better.
Patrick: I guess I’ll go with that one too, although I’m not really that into public contact. [Laughs]
Ramen or pho?
Jake: Pho
Patrick: Ramen
Charlie: Pho––but vegan. I’m all about a good vegan broth.
What's in the cards for you in the upcoming months?
Charlie: Our new album Imperium just came out and we've really been looking forward to that. So we'll be touring a bit over the rest of the year.
