The Pixel Painter – 97-Year-Old Partially Blind Man Creates Masterpieces with Microsoft Paint
Arwenclaythornyeah
When 97-year-old Hal Lasko was diagnosed with wet macular degeneration, which weakens the sight in the center of the field of vision, he thought his art-making days were over. Then, he discovered the computer and Microsoft Paint, which help him zoom in close enough to see every pixel, and got a second chance at making art history.
Making art with a rudimentary software like MS Paint is a nightmare for modern-day graphic designers, but Hal Lasko loves spending up to 10 hours a day creating stunning masterpieces one pixel at a time. Hal, a.k.a. Grandpa, used to work as a typographer, drawing all kinds of interesting fonts, back when that kind of thing was drawn by hand, and made maps during World War II. He retired during the 70′s but art remained a big part of his life, and he felt devastated when he started losing his eyesight. Hal thought his painting days were over, but his worries were put to rest 15 years ago, when his family introduced him to Windows 95′s Microsoft Paint, which allowed him to zoom in to pixel level, enough for him to see what he was doing. From that moment on, Grandpa has spent most of his days moving pixels around and creating unique artworks that combine pointilism with 8-bit art.
Mozart and Beethoven both considered Handel as the greatest composer ever!
Arwenclaythornthat is funny yes
George Frideric Handel was a German-born British Baroque composer, famous for his operas, oratorios, anthems and organ concertos.
Handel was born in a family who wasn’t really interested in music. He received critical musical training in Halle, Hamburg and Italy before settling in London and becoming a naturalized British subjust. By then he was strongly influenced by the great composers of the Italian Baroque and the middle-Ferman polyphonic choral tradition.
Handel is regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time. Water Music, Music for the Royal Fireworks and Messiah are amongst his most popular pieces of art. He composed over forty operas in 30 years!
To both Mozart and Beethoven he was the master of music! Mozart is reputed to have said of him, “Handel understands affect better than any of us. When he chooses, he strikes like a thunder bolt.” On the other hand, to Beethoven he was “the master of us all… the greatest composer that ever lived. I would uncover my head and kneel before his tomb”.
So cheers to Handel! The greatest composer of classic music of all times (according to Mozart and Beethoven, of course).
Fake Photosets
Arwenclaythorninteresting I guess
About
Fake Photosets are still images or animated GIFs that are sectioned into multiple frames with white margin space in order to give the appearance of a photo set post on the microblogging platform Tumblr.
Origin
On July 14th, 2011, Tumblr introduced a new type of posts known as “photosets” to allow its users to publish a collection of images as a single blog post. The earliest known instances of a fake photoset were created more than a year later by Tumblr user oh-totoro on August 3rd, 2012, comprised of several animated GIFs taken from the 1986 animated feature film Laputa: Castle in the Sky.[1]
The GIF photoset was met by positive reception within Tumblr community, gaining more than 32,300 notes within the first month. Throughout the month of August, oh-totoro continued to curate similarly framed GIFs featuring various scenes from Japanese animation films.
Spread
Oh-totoro’s fake photoset collection quickly caught on with the rest of Tumblr community, particularly among fandom-specific blogs, and spawned hundreds of “frame jumping” or “frame breaking” GIF artworks taken from a wide range of source videos, from animations and cartoons to music videos and scenes from movies. Following the initial influx of fake photoset GIF posts on Tumblr, some bloggers began posting still images framed in white border as satirical commentaries the overwhelming popularity of the trend.
On September 6th, Tumblr’s influential blogger Frogman introduced fake photosets to a broader audience with a two-pane GIF featuring his ambivalent feelings towards the trend (shown below). The post performed quite well and gained more than 64,000 notes within the first week.
