Song created using only sounds sampled from a long flight

by Joe Veix
bored-airline-song

When some people get bored while traveling, rather than stewing in a silent rage or sawing off the head of a fellow passenger, they create art. Like the guy who made the loneliest Celine Dion music video ever, or YouTube user YouBee, who earlier this week created a song by sampling the various annoying noises on his flight.

What could have sounded like an atonal John Cage experiment (which still would have been pretty cool!) is actually a surprisingly good EDM song (to the extent that EDM can sound good). It’s way more productive than, say, watching a censored version of “You, Me and Dupree.”

VICE Premiere: VICE Exclusive: Listen to 'Petra II' by Electronic Artist Saffron

by Charlie Ambler

Richard MacFarlane's Vancouver-based label 1080p is releasing new and interesting electronic music at a considerable clip, and they show no signs of slowing down. It's a little mind-boggling, given the sheer volume of garbage-tier electronic music that currently exists on the internet. Somehow, 1080p manages to consistently unearth dozens of obscure and undervalued artists from the annals of the internet—musicians working within the genre to produce tunes that are both danceable and interesting.

This time around, we have have Saffron's Petra II. It's a smooth run of tracks with some bizarrely wonderful samples and synth sounds, at times veering into chaos but always returning back to the beat. Give it a listen.

Mortal Kombat X will punish online quitters by making their heads explode

by Michael McWhertor

Earlier today, Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm Studios introduced the "Quitality," a new finishing move or sorts that will be reserved for players who rage quit in the middle of online matches. The punishment, as it were, is pretty straightforward: Bail on a match and your character's head will explode, giving your opponent an instant win.

NetherRealm's Derek Kirtzic said that the new Quitality is "really more [about] making the winner look better." The non-quitter, he said, gets to bask in the glory of watching their opponent instantly die. Kirtzic said that NetherRealm didn't want to overly punish players who might quit in the midst of an online match, but they "wanted to glorify the winner."

The Quitality joins the series'...

Japanese artist Motoi Yamamoto uses salt to create awesomely intricate and captivating interactive art installations. Most of us think of salt as a kitchen staple, but in Japan it’s also one of five elements in Shintoism that symbolizes purification and is used as a ritual offering. Yamamoto began working with salt a as a way to honor his sister after she passed away from cancer.

“And for the last several years Yamamoto has traveled the world creating sprawling installations of poured salt that resemble mazes, tree roots, whirlpools or the universe. Figuratively and literally one can easily get lost in the intricate installations that are the result of hours of meticulous pouring.”

Yamamoto created his latest installation, entitled Return To The Origin, back in January at the Pola Museum Annex in Tokyo. As is the case with all of his salt creations, at the end of the exhibition visitors are invited to help carry away the salt and return it to the sea, its place of origin.

8 Walt Disney Quotes That Are Actually Fake

by Matt Novak
Bridget

i didn't bother to read this article because i don't care, but irish wolfhound ftw

Sometimes it feels like the internet is 90 percent inspirational quotes. Albert Einstein, Gandhi, and Walt Disney are all popular sources for bite-sized nuggets of inspiration. But sometimes the quotes attributed to these people are just wrong. Like these quotes from Disney — a man who didn't actually say, "If you can dream it, you can do it."

Everything You Never Wanted To Know About Rabies

by Wes Siler

So far as awful ways to die go, being attacked by a rabid animal then dying a slow, painful death must rank near the top. And exactly that happens to 55,000 people every year. Here's how you (or your dog) can get rabies, what it does to your body as it kills you and what you can do to ensure neither of you gets it.

Spooky Selfies is a very silly little game that sees you controlling a skeleton, taking selfies of itself on it’s mobile phone in a spooky graveyard.

The premise itself is enough to raise a smile, but wait until you come across the singing and dancing skeletons, they’ll crack you up.  spectacularly silly stuff.

Look at the Iron Throne Being Airlifted Into the Tower of London - I swear to you, getting a throne into 10th century architecture is a thousand times harder than winning one.

Metal Gear Solid creator's involvement in series questioned, Konami removes branding

by Megan Farokhmanesh
Bridget

i wonder if this will put silent hills in peril.

Konami has removed mention of Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions branding from its Metal Gear Solid website, and renamed Kojima Productions Los Angeles to Konami Los Angeles Studio. The removal of Kojima's name and an announcement of new executive positions at the company have led to speculation about Kojima's employment at Konami.

Kojima's exact level of involvement is still unknown; we've reached out to Konami for comment and will update accordingly. In a statement issued to VideoGamer.com, a spokesperson said, "Konami Digital Entertainment, including Mr. Kojima, will continue to develop and support Metal Gear products. Please look forward to future announcements."

The Kojima Productions website now redirects to Konami's Metal Gear...

The Last Time Apple Sold an Obscenely Overpriced Gadget

by Adam Clark Estes

Now that the collective eye roll around Apple's $10,000 watch has turned into a blank stare, it's time for a little bit of nostalgia. Apple is not new to this game of selling seemingly everyday gadgets for ridiculous dollar amounts. The Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh (TAM) wrote the rules nearly 20 years ago.
