Bloodborne patch will tweak co-op leveling

by Colin Campbell

From Software is planning to release a new patch for PlayStation 4's Bloodborne next week, which tinkers with cooperative play.

The plan is to make sure that all players who are summoned by friends into passworded co-op games are playing at the same level. Currently, only players on a similar level can play together. A blog post on the PlayStation's Japanese website states that Update 1.05 will ensure that all guests will have their level modified to match that of the host's.

The World Cup Is Over — But the Robot War Between the US and Japan Has Just Begun

by maxplenke@me.com (Max Plenke)

The United States dominated Japan over the weekend for the Women's World Cup title, but the next major competition between the two countries will be huge. Literally.

On June 30, U.S. robotics lab MegaBots Inc. challenged Japanese lab Suidobashi Heavy Industry to a giant robot duel, pitting their 15-foot, tank-tread-booted and huge paintball gun-equipped Mark II robot against Suidobashi's four-ton, 13-foot Kuratas.

The Mark II from MegaBotsSource: Mic/YouTube"Suiodobashi," MegaBots Inc. co-founder Matt Oehrlein said in the challenge video, "We have a giant robot. You have a giant robot. You know what needs to happen. Read More

This guy recreated the Fresh Prince opening in GTA V, and it’s perfect — watch

by Ben Kaye

Grand Theft Auto V and family-friendly television from the 1990s aren’t exactly what you’d call long-lost cousins of entertainment. Still, one YouTuber has figured out a way to bring the two things together in a mesh of beautifully brutal digital hilarity. Merfish has recreated the opening theme songs to Arthur, Family Matters, and Full House using the PC version of GTAV’s movie editing software, and now he’s delivered what could be his masterpiece.

The latest upload is a shot-for-shot remake of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’s opening credits, but perhaps not the opening you’re most familiar with. Yes, Merfish went all out and used the elongated original version that aired attached only to the first three episodes of the series. Franklin Clinton substitutes for Will Smith, and it’s a nearly perfect recreation (save for a few unavoidable glitches). That is until right at the end, when Smith’s suitcase is replaced with a rocket launcher, and Uncle Phil (the game’s Michael De Santa) isn’t too happy. Watch:

And for proof of how remarkably close this is to the actual TV show, here’s a side-by-side comparison:

Dave Grohl designed his Iron Throne while in the hospital, high on oxycontin

by Alex Young
Bridget

because he really is living all of our best lives simultaneously

Though Foo Fighters made their triumphant return, it was not without some ingenuity — and a bit of oxycontin. Just a month removed from breaking his leg, Dave Grohl needed a solution that would enable him to perform while also keeping his leg stationary. His solution? His very own Iron Throne, complete with flashing lights, an illuminated band logo, and one thousand guitar necks.

As Grohl told the audience at last night’s Washington, DC anniversary concert, he actually came up with its elaborate design while still in the hospital, high on oxycontin. He also shared the original sketching. “I was as high as a kite when I drew that,” Grohl laughed. Unfortunately, it seems like the whole “lasers and shit shooting from the top” component didn’t entirely work out. But still, badass.

Below, watch fan-shot video of Grohl discussing the creation of his throne prior to performing “Big Me”. See Grohl and his throne perform live and in-person during Foo Fighters’ ongoing summer tour.

Damon Albarn refuses to end performance, gets carried off stage by security

by Alex Young

At this weekend’s Roskilde Music Festival in Denmark, Damon Albarn broke curfew — and then some. His collective Africa Express — which also features Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ Nick Zinner, Seye Adeklan, and Songhoy Blues as members — performed a five-hour set that lasted until 4 a.m. And if he had his way, the set would probably would still be going.

Albarn seemed to be in particularly high spirits (and perhaps had a little too much to drink), leading the collective in lively covers of The Clash and Randy Newman as well as Gorillaz. He also brought out special guests including Blur bandmate Graham Coxon and Laura Mvula.

However, once the clock struck 4 a.m., festival organizers asked Albarn to wrap things up. He refused, instead encouraging the audience to cheer in support. Eventually, security carried him off stage. Truly one of the more surreal moments we’ve seen in some time.

Watch fan-shot video below.

The next time you start feeling blue Portland, OR-based artist...

The next time you start feeling blue Portland, OR-based artist Brooke Barker is here to provide a little helpful perspective with her ongoing series of Sad Animal Facts. Each day she posts a new cute-but-sad-but-still-cute illustration of an animal along with a fact about their life. Read a few of them and suddenly it’s clear we humans aren’t alone in our suffering because animals have it rough too. Jellyfish are literally heartless, butterflies taste everything they step on, pigs can’t look up to see the sky, and poor squirrels will never know the satisfaction of a good burp:

A Museum Let Street Artists Do Whatever They Want On Its Walls. Here’s The Result

by Dainius

Street artists began painting on the walls of the Long Beach Museum of Art on June 26th of this year. The project, titled “Vitality and Verve: Transforming the Urban Landscape,” will feature a select group of artists that are either exploring urban art outside of the studio, or are thinking about taking up the studio instead of the street.

“Most of the works in this exhibition will be created on our gallery walls using both traditional and non-traditional art media ,” explains Ron Nelson, Executive Director of the Long Beach Museum of Art. “Once the exhibition ends, the walls will be repainted and prepared for the next exhibition. Therefore, it is important for art enthusiasts to see this amazing exhibition before it closes.”

The exhibit will run through September 27, 2015.
