Millions Of Bottles Of Craft Paint Sold At Hobby Lobby, Walmart Recalled For Bacteria Contamination

by Ashlee Kieler

When you think of all the items that can recalled for being tainted by bacteria, “craft paint” is probably pretty low on that list. But if you’ve got some tempera paint sitting around the house or schoolroom for craft time, you’ll want to check to make sure it’s not included in a new, massive recall.

Sargent Art announced this week the recall of 2.8 million units of craft paint sold at national retailers like Walmart, Hobby Lobby, and Amazon after finding the products may be contaminated with harmful bacteria.

According to a notice posted with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, exposure to the unspecified bacteria could have adverse health effects in immunocompromised individuals, posing a risk of serious illness through infection.

Sargent Art says that the high level of bacteria — which is not harmful to healthy individuals — was discovered during routine testing.

In all, the recall involves 13 types of Sargent Art Tempera and Finger Paints in different colors and sizes sold from May 2015 to June 2016.

So far, the company is unaware of any injuries or illnesses related to the recalled products.

Still, customers are urged to immediately stop using the past and contact Sargent Art for a full refund.

Amazon Prime Members Will Now Have Access To Library Of Free E-Books

by Mary Beth Quirk

In its continuing quest to lure folks to sign up for an Amazon Prime membership, Amazon is throwing another perk onto the pile: free ebooks, magazines, short stories, and comics.

You can’t get anything you want to read for free with the new offering, dubbed Prime Reading, but Amazon claims customers will have access to “over a thousand popular books“ including titles like The Hobbit, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’ Stone, and The Man in the High Castle.

Members can also peruse current issues of digital magazines including Bon Appétit, National Geographic Traveler, People, Sports Illustrated, HGTV, Popular Mechanics, Golf Digest, and Runner’s World.

Don’t have a Kindle device? Not a problem — members can use the Kindle app on either iOS or Android.

Although Amazon Prime’s free shipping is likely the benefit most customers want when they pay $99 a year for the service, Amazon keeps bulking up its on-demand TV and movies, photo storage, game streaming portal Twitch, music-streaming library, and free audio books in order to keep members happy, and encourage sales.

Shakshuka: A Template for Breakfast, Dinner, and Every Meal in Between

by J. Kenji López-Alt

Though it's North African in origin, these days shakshuka is popular throughout the Middle East (particularly in Israel, where it may as well be one of the national dishes) and in hip neighborhood diners all over the coastal US. Given its versatility, it's easy to see why. It's quick; it's simple; it's easy to scale up or down; and it works for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, or a midnight snack. Read More

How To Make Easy Kimchi at Home — Cooking Lessons from The Kitchn

by Emily Han

The first few times I tried kimchi it was not, I must admit, my favorite food. Then I met my Korean-American partner, Gregory, moved in with his mom — a superb cook — and within a few months I was wholly converted.

These days my mouth waters at the slightest whiff of pungent, fermented cabbage and I'll eat it with everything from fried rice to dumplings, summer rolls, or, ahem, straight out of the jar. I still have a lot to learn from Mom when it comes to kimchi-making (there are over a hundred different kinds!) but the recipe for mak kimchi, or simple kimchi, has been a great place to start.

How To Freeze Zucchini — Cooking Lessons from The Kitchn

by Emma Christensen

What do you do when life hands you zucchini? Well, first you make zucchini bread. Then you make zucchini muffins. Then you make some zoodles, plus these roll-ups, followed by more zoodles. And then, because you've still barely made a dent in the zucchini pile, you freeze it for winter. Here’s how.

Going Out In Public When You're A Parent- Mom Vs. Dad

by Zeon Santos

There's a perceptible change in attitude when you meet a stranger in public for the first time with your child in tow, and lately this change seems to be working out better for dads than moms.

For some reason people are quick to criticize mothers for the way they're raising their child yet see the father as a hero for spending time with his kids, overlooking the same stuff they just criticized the mom for.

This comic strip was written by Chaunie Brusie and loosely based on her experiences, but as we all know parental experiences may vary, so there's bound to be a dad getting dissed in public somewhere!

The Unbelievable Balloon Animals of Masayoshi Matsumoto

by Jill Harness

We're all familiar with your run-of-the-mill dog and giraffe balloon animals, but artist Masayoshi Matsumoto takes balloon tying into a whole new realm of artistry. Each of his intricate animals takes hours to complete and the end result shows that level of detail is absolutely worth it.

Amazingly, this is just Matsumoto's hobby as his real job involves chemical engineering. Right now he doesn't even sell any of his works, he just shares them on his Facebook and Twitter pages for free. It's amazing to think what he will do next and if one day he might consider doing this full time.
