Honestly, I can't even be disappointed in this one. I wanted them to not be gross and cast a white dude, but there was simply no way that was going to happen.
“Behind the glamour, behind the make up, behind all those flashy clothes, there’s an ordinary girl who just happens to have an extra ordinary job. I have seen young girls follow celebrities and try to be one of them. They try to attain perfection, have the perfect body, perfect skin tone. They aren’t fully aware of the fact that behind the looks there are a lot of designers, make up artists, and photoshop/video editing. Their whole sense of beauty is flawed. There is no good to looking good if you are conscious all the time about how you look. You should be care free. Love the real you. The way you are so that even if you are without makeup, you can look into the mirror and with a big smile embrace your imperfections. Just imagine if you don’t even love yourself how do you expect anyone to love you. So first and foremost learn to love yourself by being who you are and not what the world wants you to be. All you need to do is have a great heart and be compassionate towards others. I hope you spread the message and let the world know that you value inner beauty more than the outer appearance.”
This was my favorite scene from this whole episode because of the accuracy. I remember being terrified that he wouldn’t see the end of his first term. That’s the America we live in yall
I was too young at the time to really digest this moment, but I completely understand and agree with the fear people felt for him. I loved this episode of Black-ish.
Same with the day of the election when they stepped out on that platform after he won
why would a fantasy world with dragons and orcs and liches not have gay marriage, i dont fucking understand these nerds who strive to cling to the shittier aspects of reality in fantasy
“check it out, this monster that shoots acid out of its one nostril and it has like a fucked up ostrich body.”
“cool, can my character be trans like me?”
“no, fuck you”
DM: “The siren calls to you with her alluring voice, beckoning you towards her. What do you do … ?”
We tell girls they can grow up to be anything, but what does that mean when workplace harassment is so common? Samantha Bee is on it. And she has one totally simple solution.
I want to applaud Ashley Williams, the #BlackLivesMatter protester who confronted Hillary Clinton and demanded an apology for Clinton’s use of “superpredators with no conscience and no empathy, who need to be brought to heel” when she used dog whistles to refer to Black youths as little more than animals, as she advocated for Bill Clinton’s notorious 3-Strikes crime bill (which disproportionately targeted and imprisoned Black people).
Clinton replied, “You know what? No one has ever asked me about this before. You’re the first one to ask me about it.”
Besides noting the obvious problem with Ms. Clinton apparently needing to be publicly prompted before it ever even occurred to her to apologize for saying something so casually racist, if there are people who have spoken to her about this, then I hope they feel sufficiently empowered to step forward and make Mrs. Clinton have to explain her obfuscation.
I find it very hard to believe that no one at all has ever spoken to her and never asked about this before.
And once again, all respect to Ms. Ashley Williams. Disruptive action protests take a lot more than planning and coordination - it also requires guts. I’m a soon to be 32 year old Black man who is an inch shy of 6 feet tall, tipping the scales at 185 pounds, and I seriously doubt that I would have had even half the courage needed to do what Ms. Williams so bravely did.
From Bree Newsome to Sandra Bland, my people are stepping up and speaking out, and I am so proud.
“Sunday night I was taking a flight back from San Francisco to Toronto and was stopped by security and ordered into additional screening. Now this is nothing new to me, as I’m a brown dude who flies quite often and these types of extra screening and searchings are regular occurrences. In this specific case however I was asked to remove my turban so it could go through an additional extra check. my first inclination was to say nah, I had a flight to catch and taking off a turban and tying it back on before a flight would be inconvenient. I asked to have a pat down instead (i get my clothes patted down, and those too are made of cloth, never asked to remove those) the manager insisted that either I would take off my turban and or I would be escorted back into the public area and I could book a flight with a different airline or airport.
They provided a private screening room, and after they had done a complete body search and scanned my turban through another x-ray… they came back and told me I was good to go.
It was at this point I asked for a mirror to retie my turban again, because unlike a hat or a shoe, tying a turban back on takes time and skill (great skill, only the manliest of men know) plus I gotta make sure i look extra crispy and good ALWAYS (my motto in life, most of the time when I’m not lazy of course) The officials responded that they don’t provide mirrors and one of them had even told me to walk down the nearest bathroom at the other end of the terminal, in public, without my turban on. Which completely defeats the purpose of being in a private room in the first place… why “undress” me and then tell me to walk out “undressed” to the nearest bathroom to retie my turban again? The turban is a sign of royalty, respect, dignity, courage and has a huge significance for my people.
I followed all the security protocols, asked whatever they wanted me to do, the issue isn’t JUST with the fact that I was asked to remove the turban (however silly it still is) but with the lack of respect and insensitivity when I asked for a simple request like a mirror to tie it back on again.

Don't imagine it's just the slave states. America is shitty to black people, period.
A legal challenge to Virginia’s voter ID law began similarly to the way one in North Carolina began last month: With an elderly black woman detailing what she went through when asked for a photo ID card at a polling place. In North Carolina it was 94-year-old Rosanell Eaton. In Virginia on February 23 it was 69-year-old Josephine Okiakpe, who cried as she testified in court:
Josephine Okiakpe said she plucked several forms of ID from her purse — birth certificate, Social Security card, voter registration card, even a bank statement — and handed them over to workers at her Woodbridge polling place. The only things she had with her picture on them were her North Carolina driver’s license and an expired Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles ID card.
…
As she haggled with the poll workers, she said some other voters looked at her and snickered.
“I felt very frustrated, very upset,” she said, trying to fight back tears.
Virginia’s challenge to the voter ID law comes from the Democratic Party, which contends that the law restricts blacks, young people, and Latinos from participating, as these groups tend to vote Democrat when they do. Republicans in southern state legislatures in particular maintain that voter ID laws put a check on voter fraud even though the evidence of voter fraud is next to nil, but the evidence of black voter participation is high. That is, participation was high as long as the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was in effect. Once key parts of it were struck down by the Supreme Court, a slew of voter identification laws sprang up across the country.
Also not surprising, all of these shenanigans are taking place in red states that were formerly slave states.
'Cause, yeah, "don't worry about the quality of your water" has worked out so well before.
Officials in Jackson, Mississippi, are telling residents their water isn’t unsafe … but pregnant women and children should be careful, just in case, on account of some high lead levels. True, Jackson’s water isn’t near Flint-level horror, but you still don’t like to hear this:
Random water samples were taken in June 2015 from 58 homes in Jackson, 13 of which showed lead above “actionable levels of 0.015. The Mississippi State Department of Health notified the city of the findings last month. New samples were taken from the 58 sites and an additional 42 sites, city officials said. All but two of the resampled initial 13 sites had levels below the action level and some had no lead detection, authorities said. The final two locations where samples were taken are either vacant or using water from a private well, city officials said.
In the full set of 100 sites sampled in January, lab results show 11 are above the lead action level, city officials said.
So it’s been eight months since the first troubling samples were taken, and they just followed up starting last month. And they keep finding homes with “actionable” levels of lead, but the message to residents is not to worry? Unless of course you’re in a vulnerable population, in which case you should probably worry. What’s particularly scary is that it's not just Flint and Jackson: lead water pipes are very much a part of America’s troubled infrastructure. But since our national greatness doesn’t extend to fixing our infrastructure (especially not where poor people live), lead scares are something we’ll be living with for a while.
Maybe my favorite gif of Janeway because it looks like she’s reading someone’s smut and isn’t pleased with the quality.
“Their flesh melted together like they were a weird sort of siamese twins but sexyily… are you serious Chakotay?”
can we make “Captain reads bad smut written by first officer” a thing
“he gasped as he pinned his captain against the wall and his hot rod twitched impatiently, eager to get closer to that glorious ass… Will, what the fuck?”
“If it pleases you plant your seed in my garden and I will bear the fruit of your loins” she screamed, slamming back into him as he flooded her internal organs violently….Major…what the fuck.”
“But by the prophets, not 50 of them Nerys!”
OMG. I just love where this post went. It was not what I expected.
“Well, Mister Spock, I can’t say that I’m not intrigued, but unless I’ve misread the species of your leads that’s too many hands.”
“Actually, this is pretty tasty stuff, T’Pol”
This post and fandom moves me on a spiritual level.
While human rights can be violated by individuals or by institutions, they can only be defended by institutions. The European Court of Human Rights does not deal with single individuals who have committed crimes. Rather, it focuses on why the government in question could not take action against what happened. But where are the doctors, politicians and all the people who personally contributed to or carried out such surgeries, and when they are going to take responsibility for their actions? In order to take action against this human rights violation, blaming the Communist regime is not enough. The practice continues today and forcibly sterilized Romani women are still a long way from receiving true justice.
if you are non Rromani you need to stop what you’re doing and reblog this. Don’t ignore it. They are literally treating us like animals. They set our houses on fire. They lynched (literally) a Rromani chavo not too long ago. We are dying. Please don’t ignore us.

I know I’ve reblogged some of these before, but I love these SW / Calvin and Hobbes mashups. So stinking cute.
