Tax investigators and bill collectors use Rich Kids of Instagram to uncover oligarchs' hidden millions

wilwheaton:

mostlysignssomeportents:

One of the perks of being insanely wealthy is you can hide your money, so when you rip people off or hide your taxes or divorce your spouse, your victims can’t figure out how to get their due.

But if you’re a middle-aged oligarch whose feckless offspring show off their extreme wealth in social media (see Rich Kids of Instagram andFuerdai), they might be leaking your dirty secrets for anyone who knows how to look for them.

Bill collectors, tax inspectors and even blackmailers have turned to social media to chase down the hidden assets of the world’s super rich, finding photos of kids in private jets or partying on yachts or just geo-tagging photos that reveal the locations of hidden villas owned through offshore companies.

Sometimes, it’s not emotionally stunted, entitled children who spill the beans: 50 Cent posted a photo of himself, posed with stacks of $100 bills spelling out the word “BROKE,” while going through a bankruptcy proceeding in which he had claimed he had no money with which to pay his creditors.

this is funny because it assumes that cats care about your feelings at all.

Kitten: You have a lot of nice things on your desk.
Me: Thanks.
Kitten: Which one of them is most important to you?
Me: What?
Kitten: Like, if one of them were to be knocked off and wrecked, which one would make you the most sad?
Me: Why?
Kitten: Oh, I'm just trying to prioritize my day.

plaidandredlipstick:

the reason male comic book fans work themselves into a frenzied rage over “fake geek girls“ is because they think they can’t get a girlfriend because of their love for comic books (a.k.a nerdiness). if they accept that geek girls genuinely love comic books, then they’re left with the cold harsh reality that it’s not their nerdiness that makes them unattractive to women, but the fact that they are misogynistic condescending dickbags who need to be avoided AT ALL COSTS

The “Angry Dark Skin Friend”

There’s a common pattern in many forms of black media where there are 2 black female characters who are friends or sisters, one being lighter in skintone, while the other is darker. Even though darkskin and lightskin women form friendships all the time, the way they’re commonly depicted in Black Media is what stands out and perpetuates certain stereotypes:

1. in the film/show/etc, the main character/focus of the 2 is typical the lighter skin woman

2. this makes the darker skin woman the “sidekick”

3. the lighter skin woman is portrayed as prettier, nicer, “classier”, more reserved, and/or overall more likeable and desirable

4. the darker skin woman is portrayed as shady, mean, loud, desperate, abrasive, aggressive, and/or overall less attractive (many would say “ghetto”)

These photos show just a few examples that came to mind…

Coming to America (1988) - The darker skin sister was more desperate for a man, chasing after Prince Akeem, Simi, and even her sister’s ex-fiancé. In the frame of society’s norms, this would be seen as “fast”, “tacky” or lacking in morals, which would therefore, make her less fitting to be a wife.

House Party (1990) - The darker skin friend (AJ Johnson) was the louder, more outgoing friend who was ready to date both Kid & Play, whereas Tisha Campbell’s character was more timid, and ended up being Kid’s “better suited” love interest.

Martin (1992-1997) - Once again, Tisha Campbell is playing the main female character, Gina Waters, and love interest to the main character, Martin Payne. While Gina is depicted as a kinder, classier, professional, “wifey” type, her best friend/assistant Pamela James, played by Tichina Arnold, is depicted as a loud, angry, man-less, berating black woman with “buckshots” and “beedeebees” in her “horse” hair, who was constantly butting heads with Martin.

Proud Family (2001-2005) - Penny, the lighter skin girl, was the main character with Dijonay, the darker skin girl, as the friend/sidekick. Dijonay had a less “traditional” name, as did her many siblings, was portrayed as louder, having more attitude, and was constantly chasing after Sticky, a boy who not only didn’t want her, but preferred the lighter skin friend, Penny.

Rick Ross’ Music Video for “Aston Martin Music” (2010) - In the early portion of the video, we see a young Ricky out on the block with other neighborhood kids, dreaming about owning a luxury car one day. Among the kids there’s 2 young girls, one darker skin and the other lighter skin. While the darker skin girl is quick to berate him and tear down his dreams of ever being that successful, raising her voice and waving her finger in his face, the lighter skin girl is quick to reassure him and support his dream. Once again, this display reaffirms the stereotype of darker skin women being mean, bitter, and angry, while lighter skin women are kinder, sweeter, and happier.

*ahem* 3LW

yikes

I’m leaving this on my blog for y'all to think about. Because I’m the dark skinned friend and I don’t appreciate being stereotyped as the sidekick nor “shady, mean, loud, desperate, abrasive, aggressive, and/or overall less attractive (many would say “ghetto”)” .

fashioninhistory: Pumps  Christian Louboutin  2007 Shoe...

fashioninhistory:

Pumps

Christian Louboutin

2007

Shoe designer Christian Louboutin is known for the arching profile of his signature high-heeled styles with their flash of lacquer red soles. In this design, more concept piece than wearable fashion, he exposes the whole underside of the shoe by attenuating the stiletto heel to such an extreme height that the wearer must balance on her toes, with only the most minimal supporting balance at the very back of her heel. This en pointe silhouette appears in fetish wear as boots with the foot positioned so that mobility is virtually precluded. In this position, however, the shortening of the calf muscle introduces a greater contour to the leg. The black patent leather and incapacitating stiletto heel invite the inevitable louche sexual associations, but Louboutin also evokes the refined and codified aesthetics of the ballet with his accurate replication of a dancer’s pointe shoe. The designer has been quoted as saying that he wants to give the illusion of a lengthened leg to his clients. With this extreme strategy a woman gains an inch or two of illusion, if at the cost of comfort. These designs suggest that the artifice employed to attain an idealized fashionable beauty is not without its challenges.

Analysis: Sudden Hearing Loss Could Be Rare Side Effect Of Viagra And Cialis

by Laura Northrup
ThePrettiestOne

How can they tell? It's not like a man with a boner actually listens to anyone.
(I'm not sorry, I wouldn't resist.)

Suddenly losing your hearing with no warning is a terrifying prospect, and that’s been a known side effect of erectile dysfunction drugs Viagra and Levitra for almpst a decade, with the Food and Drug Administration publishing a warning about a possible link back in 2007. A new analysis by the Institute for Safe Medication Practices shows that while hearing loss is a very rare side effect, it is much more likely to happen when taking either of these medications.

While the best-known use of phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors is as a treatment for erectile dysfunction, they’re also used to treat pulmonary hypertension. The ISMP combed through incident reports in the FDA’s Medwatch database, and found that out of 50,879 cases reporting issues with the drugs, there were 214 reports of sudden hearing loss.

That’s a tiny fraction, but the number of people taking PDE5 inhibitors who reported hearing loss was 21.5 times higher than the number of people reporting sudden hearing loss who were otherwise comparable to the PDE5 inhibitor patients.

According to the 2007 report, by the way, patients who reported hearing loss almost all said that it was only one-sided, and at least one-third of cases resolved on their own.

“Where The Matrix is cold, Jupiter is warm. Where The Matrix feels constrained, claustrophobic, Jupiter presents a vast universe brimming with life. It is bright, colorful, extravagant. If The Matrix is the story someone tells when they’ve been down so long that they’ve forgotten what the sky looks like, Jupiter Ascending is what happens when they’ve finally stepped out the door and are unable and unwilling to pull their heads back down from the clouds. The Matrix is a movie about being in the closet, Jupiter Ascending is about coming out.”

The feminist cupcake sale that led to death and rape threats | Madeline Price

The feminist cupcake sale that led to death and rape threats | Madeline Price:

scribbleowl:

suricattus:

bitterbitchclubpresident:

yayfeminism:

“The now infamous Gender Pay Gap Bake Sale was an afterthought, a supplementary event to the panel discussions, workshops and stalls to be held throughout feminist week on the University of Queensland campus. We have hosted bake sales before, we just wanted this one to have an educational catch: why not educate students about wage disparity while feeding them sugar?

The idea was that each baked good would only cost you the proportion of $1 that you earn comparative to men (or, if you identify as a man, all baked goods would cost you $1). For example, for a woman of colour in the legal profession, a baked good at the stall would only cost you 55 cents.”

“Far from simply starting a discussion about wage disparity in Australia, the online backlash over the Gender Pay Gap Bake Sale brought to light hundreds of other issues of gender inequality, from sexual violence and threats against women, to why we still need feminism in the 21st century. This bake sale did its job and more.

We had students who had previously dismissed the idea of feminism approach us at the bake sale, purchase an item and explain that they “didn’t believe feminism was still needed until reading the comments posted online.”

These comments, posted by anonymous keyboard warriors (those who love to sit behind their computer screens and attack people changing the world) threatened violence against attendees and organisers of the bake sale, with posts including:

  • “I’m so glad I know this event is on, now I won’t have to sort through all the ugly chicks when I’m out clubbing cos they’ll all be at feminist week instead”
  • “Kill all women”
  • “I’d punch a chick if she winked at me at the bake sale”
  • “Females are fucking scum, they should be put down as babies”
  • “I want to rape these feminist cunts with their fucking baked goods”.

These comments were posted on the public event page, on subsequent posts about feminist week and sent directly to the email accounts, personal Facebook accounts and, in one case, via voicemail, of the organisers of feminist week, general members of the UQ Union Women’s Collective and to staff members who spoke out in support of the event.”

Why are men such violent assholes

Thereby supporting the theory that men are delicate creatures who need to be protected from reality and hard things like Life, lest their frail minds implode and make them lash out unbecomingly.

if your masculinity can be threatened by a CUPCAKE, you need to turn it in so someone resonsible can use it

fatalmirage:

I love how POC are constantly told the mantra of “make your own, make your own” if we even attempt to be part of film and theater, but once we do make our own and once it’s succesful, you’ll have every other John and Becky creeping out of the woodwork to demand inclusiveness. The lack of self awareness is astounding.

“It’s historically inaccurate to have a full POC cast since Hamilton and the founding fathers were white.” I don’t see any of y'all giving a fuck about accuracy when Hollywood routinely whitewashes Egypt and Asia.

“It’s racist to exclude an entire race though” I don’t see y'all speaking up about racism when all the casting calls for movies and most of Broadway ask specifically for Caucasian actors.

Truth is, y'all are just pissed now that there is something good that exists and you’re not allowed to be a part of. You don’t give a shit if it’s working in your favor, but you throw a fit when your excluded for once. Like petulant children, I swear.

How women prepare for first dates

Bonus: How men prepare for first dates:

Accurate.

Okay but the first set of gifs is not a joke like that’s literally how it goes.

One of the girls at work won’t get in the guy’s car unless he agrees to let her take photos of him and his license plate to text to her mother. If he gets mad or makes a fuss she cancels the date and goes back inside.

Reblogging for that 👆🏼👆🏼👆🏼

I’ve had someone take pics of me and my license plate on a first date before & I was okay with it. I’ve also had a friend allow me to view the tracking on her phone when she went to meet up with a guy the first time. This isn’t a joke at all & women have good reason to worry.

i have only ever met 2 people online, and made sure that we met up somewhere that was 1) public 2) close to my home.

After, I walked to the dollar store that was a couple shops down until I knew they were gone, before walking home.

Louis C.K. kind of nailed it. Men worry that their date won’t measure up to their aesthetic preferences. Women worry that they’re going wind up dead.

The disparity is RIDICULOUS, and the fact that dudes get offended when women try to protect themselves is hard proof that way too many guys Do Not Understand how dangerous it is to be a woman. (Not to mention it’s fucking insulting. “How dare you not trust your life and safety to a complete stranger whose intentions you have no way of knowing”?)

Lookin’ at the notes on this post following my earlier reblog and just going….

Wow. WOW. Look at all these sheltered people and their internalized misogyny.

The point isn’t, “NOT ALL MEN ARE OUT TO GET YOU.”

The point is, “WE HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING A NICE GUY FROM A SERIAL KILLER.”

It’s not like they fucking wear nametags, okay? Moreover, the most awful people with the worst intentions often put on the nicest face or deliberately make themselves seem harmless and likeable, to lull potential victims into a false sense of security. (Read up on Ted Bundy sometime. It’s horrifying shit. Or read any thread on the “Let’s Not Meet” subreddit.)

In order to protect ourselves, we are forced to assume the worst of every man we meet, because statistically speaking, the biggest danger to women…IS MEN. Saying “not all men are out to get you, you’re just being paranoid” is like saying “not every car you ride in is going to crash, so buckling your seatbealt is stupid.”

When dealing with an unknown situation, in the absence of absolute proof of safety, exercising a little extra caution can be the difference between life and death. Shaming women for being what you may view as overly cautious is every bit as horrid as blaming them if something goes wrong later on.

And refusing to go to a secluded location with a complete stranger without letting someone know where you’re going, who you’re with, and how to find you is just common street sense, whether you’re on a date or just going out for business or social purposes.

If your life has been so sheltered (or your coping skills so incredible) that you see no need to distrust strangers or worry about the potential for violence, you should thank your lucky stars.

And you should also be aware that just because it hasn’t happened to you or anyone you know does not mean that it doesn’t happen.

Lemme say that louder for the people in the back.

Just because it hasn’t happened to you or anyone you know does not mean that it doesn’t happen.

Re-Reblog for relevant commentary.

Plus, women are in a double bind when it comes to protecting our safety. If we don’t go to these extreme lengths to protect our own safety and something bad happens to us, then the justice system and the public jump all over us as if it’s our fault that we were victimized because we should have used some common sense and protected ourselves. But when we do take measures to protect ourselves and nothing bad happens, we are accused of paranoia and misandry.

So basically, no matter what, it’s our fault? No. Just no. If you have a problem with women having to go to what seem to you to be ridiculous lengths to feel safe–well, you’re not wrong. It is ridiculous that we have to go to these lengths. But it’s also prudent given the world we actually live in. So instead of getting frustrated with us for not trusting you, get out there and do something to help end rape culture instead of blaming us for protecting ourselves from the vile and criminal behavior of some men. They are the ones who are screwing up your dating life by making women fear men. Not us. We’re on your side. Be on ours.

How much must Luke Skywalker be freaking out right now?

meripihka7:

Can you imagine?

You are moping on your island of self-imposed exile, and then this girl shows up.

  • She’s flying your best friend’s ship. The ship that Han thought he lost for ever. The ship that was stolen and passed through so many hands that he was sure he’d never see it again. The same ship that took you away from home for the first time.
  • She’s accompanied by your personal droid. The droid you left behind and abandoned. The droid that C-3PO was sure would never be the same again.
  • She holds out her hand and she’s holding your father’s light saber. The sword you were sure was lost forever. The light saber that you dropped down a bottomless air shaft on a gas giant thirty years ago. The light saber you knew you would never see again.
  • You look up and you see her eyes. Maz Kanata says that if you live long enough, you see the same eyes looking out of different faces. The girl’s face is different, but those eyes are the same. You know those eyes. They’re the eyes you thought you’d never see again.

And that’s when you know it.

You’re screwed.

They say sometimes the Force works in mysterious ways. Sometimes, the Force will send you little signs. Subtle clues.

Other times, the Force will just beat you repeatedly over the head with a gigantic neon sign that says: “You can’t run away from your past anymore, Luke. I won’t let you. Look, here is your past come back to haunt you. Now deal with it.

You have no idea how much I adore this post with my whole being

I like the idea of the Force sending Luke little signs over the years that it’s time to return to his loved ones, gently increasing in intensity as he ignores them, until it finally gets fed up and shoves the events of Episode 7 into motion, finishing with a flourish of HERE’S YOUR NEW APPRENTICE, SPACE HOBO.

Aided and abetted by the ghost trio, I imagine. Especially since he did not look at all surprised.

Obi-Wan and Yoda sending him dreams and whispers for 15 years, before an exasperated Anakin pushed them aside “Excuse me, but you two are not very good at dealing with Skywalkers and have amply demonstrated that fact over the decades. We don’t do subtle. *appears giant-size over the sky* That’s it, Luke, we’re sending you all the things! So PULL YOUR SHIT TOGETHER, SON!!
