Yeah, it was time to defuse some tension.  The webcomic had been through Hell for a long while, and despite the influx of Robin, it was still kind of murky.  And so here’s Joyce, reasserting her agency over this webcomic’s insistence that bad things had happened and so it was her time to be sad.  Nope!  Time for attempts at joy despite everything, sorry.

Not that this is the end of Walky and Joyce’s troubles, no.  But good and bad times do not travel along an uninterrupted linear line.

This strip was originally published September 8, 2003.  It’s only significant because it’s just two days out from the fifth anniversary of the Walkyverse.  Five years since the beginning of Roomies!.  And Walky and Joyce have had a VERY BAD TIME recently and I needed to address this.  But over a significant anniversary.
