A new building full of self-storage units has just opened in Colchester, right next door to the municipal waste disposal facility (ie. council tip).

Given what most people seem to keep in self-storage units, this is probably a smart business move.

Last night (well, probably more like this morning), I had one of my rare, unbidden dreams. I'm sure I get plenty of dreams, but I only very, very rarely remember them unless they're ones I've decided to have before I go to sleep.

I won't bore you with the details of it, but at one point in the dream I went to sleep and had a dream. In the real world, I was aware I was dreaming (I always am) and in the dream world I was aware I was dreaming too, which was a weird experience. Anyway, because of this I was able to prevent any possibility of a recursive dream-within-a-dream descent, so didn't have to worry about what would happen if I got some kind of stack overflow. Still, it was rather odd to dream that I was falling asleep, having a dream, and then waking up, all while still asleep.

Oh well, at least I am now furnished with the rather useless information that when I dream-within-a-dream, I dream-within-a-dream in colour.

It's my birthday today. I'm 54: the same as the number of cards in a pack, including jokers.

Sadly, its being my birthday was not regarded as a valid reason to excuse me from attending this morning's 3.5-hour staff meeting. I can't tell you how stimulated I was by the discussion, mainly because I wasn't paying attention the majority of it. Fortunately, I had brought some paper with me so that everyone could see I was taking notes.

We have a hole in our garden at the moment:



It was dug by our drain contractors to do a percolation test, to see if they can put a soakaway there to distribute the rainwater that comes off our roof. The idea is that they fill it with water and see how long it takes to drain away.

Probably not the best weather to be doing it in, to be honest...
