E as aves não estão só se adaptando. Anos de coleta de dados serviram como base para evidências de que alguns dos pássaros estão se beneficiando da exposição prolongada à radiação. “Estudos anteriores da vida selvagem em Chernobil mostraram que a exposição à radiação crônica acabava com os antioxidantes e aumentava o dano oxidativo”, diz o principal autor do estudo, o Dr. Ismael Galván. “Mas o que nos encontramos foi exatamente o contrário — os níveis de antioxidantes aumentaram e o stress oxidativo diminuiu com o aumento da radiação de fundo”. Em outras palavras, a exposição à radiação está ajudando na adaptação dos pássaros.

Trabalhando com amostras de sangue coletadas desde os anos 1990, os pesquisadores descobriram que a condição física dos pássaros melhorou e que o DNA danificado foi reduzido com o aumento das quantidades de radiação, o que fez com que os pássaros se tornassem resistentes a níveis ainda mais altos de radiação. Essa é a primeira evidência de que os animais podem se adaptar a ambientes radioativos.

O efeito observado em Chernobil está restrito a 16 espécies, incluindo o melro, o tordo e o bico-grossudo (na imagem acima). Além disso, a pesquisa nos ensina mais sobre como os ambientes radioativos como Chernobil afetam a vida selvagem com o passar dos anos.

how tiny are you?!

i got the biggest size and i think it’s kids size 14-15 (158cm) :D so im that tiny 
my only concern was will i be able to fit my boobs in and i did  and yay!
