the whole interview is him trying to defend himself as a scholar because apparently you can’t be a muslim scholar of religion.
This makes me angry

wtf. why the hell is she asking him those questions. stupid fk. smh.
this dude reads biblical greek
biblical greek
he is more qualified to speak about the bible than most priests
Aren’t Islam, Christianity, and Judaism all part of the Abrahamic religion? I’m pretty sure they’re not as different as Fox News likes to think.
And even if it was vastly different, dude understands Christianity more than actual Christians might and it’s not like we haven’t seen Christians who have no experience studying other religions trying to discuss what that religion is or not.
the thing is
jews and muslims growing up in america are pretty much forced to learn about christianity whether they want to or not
we learn about christian history, the books we read in english are rife with christian references
we may not have gone to CCD but we are still subjegated to learn about christianity if we went through public schooling and it’s not a shot in the dark that most american jews and muslims went to public school
if we don’t know anything about christianity we’re criticized. i remember asking my teacher about the significance of a renaissance painting of a man checking jesus’ wounds because everyone knew the reference in class except for me, and this kid shot back that i should know because the jews killed jesus and how dare i ask a question about not knowing something due to my cultural upbringing.
also back on topic what sucks is that only christian men are apparently allowed to be experts and write books on other religions. how dare people of other religions take an interest in studying other religions when in fact we’re shat on if we don’t know christianity.
it’s a lose-lose situation for us non-christians. damned if we take an interest in learning and discussing christianity, damned if we don’t learn anything about the religion.
I like that in the interview he doesn’t even try to be nice and accommodating about it like it’s an acceptable line of questioning. He’s civil, he isn’t rude about it, he doesn’t just start yelling that she’s being an islamophobic asshole, but he does make it clear that the whole premise of her questions are ludicrous and offensive.
