We love music for the same reason we love sex, drugs, and delicious food: they all cause a release of dopamine. When you listen to music, you get chills because your brain is anticipating a peak moment in the song, and dopamine is released in reward- just like getting turned on before ever being touched. “I didn’t want to go outside my house because I couldn’t take the stares from strangers so I’d lock myself in my room. It got so bad that I just didn’t want to live any more. I can laugh about it now but back then it affected me so badly that I began to self harm because it felt better than all the abuse I was getting. I feel more feminine, more sexy and I think I look it too. I’ve learned to love myself for who I am nothing can shake me now.”

Sometimes it pays to be “plain.” Incredibly beautiful people are less likely to be hired for a job if being interviewed by someone of the same sex, are often lonely because they are viewed as unapproachable and intimidating, and are given less care by doctors when being treated for pain. Source

Farmers are often labeled as supporters of and one of the main reasons for Daylight Savings Time, but it’s a myth. Farmers across the world are one of the main groups who are against DST because they set their schedule by the sun and it’s difficult for their animals to adjust. Source

People who understand sarcasm are good mind-readers. Because sarcasm is a sort of “true lie,” you have to find the real meaning behind words that aren’t meant literally, and differentiate between someone’s false emotions and what they’re really thinking. If you can easily detect a well-hidden sarcastic comment, you likely have great social intuition. Source

Rap battles have been around since the 5th century. ‘Flyting’ was a ritual in which two people competed by exchanging insults in poetic verse, similar to modern freestyle battles between rappers. The insults were very provocative, and people often accused each other of cowardice and sexual perversion. Source

"Even as the armada neared the French coast, German commanders did not believe that an Allied invasion was imminent. There were no Luftwaffe or naval patrols in the area. German radar finally detected the huge fleet at about 3:00 A.M., but with Rommel at home in Germany, there was no one who could dispatch additional divisions to Normandy."

Why not use a regular robot? Because the instincts of a living organism allow it to evade hazardous conditions and predators without help from the operator. With a hybrid system using a living insect, you have the combined abilities of a human and an animal.
FUCK THIS MOVIE. I HATE THIS MOVIE. There is so much whack shit in this film:

If you lie to dogs, they’ll stop trusting you. In order to test dogs’ responses to being repeatedly tricked by humans, researchers pointed them towards containers of food. Once they began pointing at empty containers, the dogs became so distrusting that they wouldn’t respond when the humans pointed to food again. Source

Pimps buy their jewelry from pawn shops. If you get arrested for pandering, the cops take all your cash away because it was obtained illegally. Since they don’t confiscate the jewelry, pimps buy it at pawn shops because they can get back half of what they paid for it and use it for bail money. Source

There’s a scientific reason why Indian food has such a unique flavor. In the Western world, foods that share many flavor compounds are often used together, but Indian cuisine uses mostly negative food pairing. The more flavors ingredients have in common, the less likely they are to be used together in an Indian recipe. Source

Lucy and Maria Aylmer are twins, but they have a hard time convincing people. Even though they have mixed-race parents, their mom was still shocked when the midwife handed her babies she’d expetced to look alike, but were complete opposites. Source

While arguing with his house-surgeon about whether a red, pulsating tumor in a little boy’s neck was a skin abscess or a dangerous aneurism
of the carotid artery, Liston said: “Pooh! Whoever heard of an aneurism
in one so young?” Then he whipped a knife out of his pocket and lanced
