13 Father’s Day Cards For Your Favorite Video Game Dads - Or least-favorite, depending on your threshold for bad parenting.
firehosetoday my dad announced that he was once again playing through Halo on Nightmare ("or whatever") with trainers on, and that he proudly has an entire file cabinet(??) full of video game trainers and that he still refuses to play any video games where he can't cheat
I got the gaming bug from my dad, who used to sit three-year-old me on his lap while he played Myst and Doom – which, in hindsight, may not have been the best plan, but hey. So what better way to celebrate Father’s Day than with a collection of cards (lovingly made by myself and my fellow former Weekend Editor, Becky Chambers) dedicated to our fave, most-devoted in-game dads?
If we missed the game dad of your choice, let us know in the comments – or make your own super-high-quality cards to rival ours!
A squid?????? From Splatoon

Historical Map: Melbourne and Metropolitan Tramways Board - Proposals for General Scheme, 1923
Another great planning map from almost 100 years ago. Melbourne, of course, is one city that has retained its trams over the years, rather than tearing them all out, only to eventually replace them with light rail or new trams in the modern day.
Here’s a great map that we’ve just added to our archives today. Authored by the M&MTB’s Chief Engineer T.P. Strickland in 1923 and overlaid on a Sands & McDougall map of Metropolitan Melbourne, it shows the extent of the cable tram network and the electric routes inherited by the Board four years earlier in 1919, and a slew of proposed lines as outlined in the “General Scheme for Future Tramways.” Some of these were eventually constructed, many others remain unrealised.
Most curious: the proposal for lines on the Footscray system to Sunshine and the City via Dynon Road; the original plan to join Spencer St/Clarendon St via Hanna St (now Kings Way) to Toorak Rd; a curious loop arrangement near Caulfield Station; the extensive network in the bayside suburbs of Elsternwick, Glenhuntly, and Moorabbin; and all of the connections in the inner northern suburbs of Fitzroy, Northcote, Preston, Brunswick, and Coburg.

Newswire: Jason Momoa is reportedly playing Aquaman in Dawn Of Justice
firehosewhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
At this point, it’s a cliché to say that Aquaman is a boring superhero. Sure, his main power involves communicating with sea creatures, but that movie Blackfish made it pretty clear that fish should not be fucked with. It seems like most people’s impression of Aquaman comes from the Super Friends show, which stopped airing almost 30 years ago, and writers have spent the decades since then trying to make him seem cool. Batman recovered from the ‘60s show and the Joel Schumacher movies, so let’s all just get on the same page and agree that Aquaman is fine. Also, he’s apparently going to be played by Jason Momoa now, and we know what happens when people piss off Khal Drogo.
This report comes from HitFix, which is ready to declare with absolute certainty that Momoa will appear in the upcoming legal drama Batman V. Superman ...

Custom Engraved Rolling Pins That Imprint Designs into Dough
firehosevia Rosalind
Polish designer Zuzia Kozerska uses a laser engraver to engrave custom designs into wooden rolling pins. In addition to being pleasing to the eye, the engravings will imprint custom patterns into dough for patterned cookies, pastries, and other dough-based creations. Kozerska makes a variety of standard designs and will also customize pins to order.
