NinjHax 2.0 beta delivers homebrew, region-free, and custom...

NinjHax 2.0 beta delivers homebrew, region-free, and custom themes to all Nintendo 3DSes ⊟

French coder Smealum has delivered a long-awaited update to NinjHax that allows you to load homebrew software, play cartridges from other regions, and use custom themes for your home screen (check our Smealum’s Calvin and Hobbes theme in the video below). The hack works with 3DSes, New 3DSes, and 2DSes from all regions running any firmware between 9.0-9.9.

You’ll still need a copy of Cubic Ninja from the same region as your system in order to load the hack (using the game’s “Scan QR Code” feature), but Smealum tells us that he intends to eventually start working on an Ocarina of Time 3D exploit in a couple weeks when he has the time. Once again, NinjHax doesn’t allow you to play commercial ROMs/pirated games.

In This Money Race Bernie Sanders Wins

Courtney shared this story from Super Opinionated.

In This Money Race, Bernie Sanders Wins:

women4bernie2016:

Bernie Sanders has spent $0.00 on polling compared to Clinton’s $900,000.

This excerpt shows the attitude of his staff and campaign in general.  This is a man who will make the small donations count.

“By contrast, the Sanders campaign is a seat-of-the-pants affair. Mr. Sanders’s aides estimate they spent a few thousand dollars on office furniture, compared with about $43,000 laid out by the Clinton campaign.  Michael Briggs, a Sanders spokesman, said when it came time to outfit the Burlington office, a few people drove a U-Haul to a Vermont store that sells government surplus. The campaign used Craigslist to find office furniture for Mr. Sanders’s campaign office in Washington D.C.“It’s a shoestring operation,” Mr. Briggs said.”

Joseph Gordon-Levitt to Play Mindy Lahiri’s Husband on The Mindy Project‘s Fourth Season Premiere - Say what?

by Jessica Lachenal

Joseph-Gordon-Levitt

So, okay. The Mindy Project has been one hell of a rollercoaster. First it was cancelled, then we found out it’s coming back to Hulu, and now we find out that they’ve snagged Joseph Gordon freakin’ Levitt for the fourth season premiere? Okay.

BuzzFeed reports that Gordon-Levitt will be guest starring in the season four premiere as Mindy’s husband, Matt. It’s supposed to be an homage to the 1998 comedy Sliding Doors, where she’s living in an alternate universe where she didn’t marry her current show husband, Danny.

Yeah, that’s a lot of in-universe stuff that might not make a whole lot of sense if you haven’t seen the show. But can you just imagine how adorable Mindy Kaling and Gordon-Levitt would be as a couple? D’aw. If this isn’t one big (500) Days of Summer parody…

Prep your headcanons. The Mindy Project is coming later this year.

Newswire: Here’s the first single off of Run The Jewels’ cat sound remix album

by William Hughes

Run The Jewels’ cat-sound based remix project Meow The Jewels has moved one step closer in its transformation from, “Ha ha, what a silly joke,” to, “Well, hey, at least it’s for charity,” to “Actual, listenable music.” Last night, the rap duo revealed the first track from the feline-sampling album—which recreates last year’s critically acclaimed Run The Jewels 2 by replacing all the music with sounds coaxed and manipulated out of cats—on their Beats 1 radio show.

“Meowrly” is a remix of “Early,” the seventh track from the album, and it is, as promised, a song in which most of the backing music was replaced by cat sounds. And, in a pleasant development that may or may not come as a surprise, depending on your default feelings on cat-based music, the song actually holds up pretty well. The verses are still there, as strong as ever ...

In Tune with Neptune

by Mike.Buckley@jhuapl.edu (M. Buckley)
The New Horizons Long Range Reconnaissance Imager (LORRI) observed Neptune on June 23, apl2010, as part of a test of the critical optical navigation Annual Checkout (ACO)-4. In this 100-millisecond exposure, taken when the spacecraft was 23.2 astronomical units (about 2.15 billion miles) from Neptune, the planet appears slightly larger than a star. At the time of this observation, the solar phase angle (the spacecraft-planet-Sun angle) was 34 degrees and the solar elongation angle (planet-spacecraft -Sun angle) was 95 degrees. Only New Horizons can observe Neptune at such large solar phase angles, which can be used to study the light-scattering properties of Neptune's atmosphere.

Bill Could Allow Companies to Fire LGBTQ+ Employees and Unwed Mothers

by Carolyn Cox

shutterstock_277070966Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgh.

Just a few weeks after the Supreme Court upheld marriage equality, Republicans are calling for legislation with bill H.R. 2802 that would protect employers and organizations that oppose same-sex marriage on the grounds of religious belief.

The Huffington Post explains:

The First Amendment Defense Act prohibits the federal government from taking discriminatory action against a person—which is defined to include for-profit corporations—acting in accordance with a religious belief that favors so-called traditional marriage. This means the feds can’t revoke a nonprofit’s tax-exempt status or end a company’s federal contract over this issue.

The bill would protect companies and people that believe marriage is a union between “one man and one woman” or that “sexual relations are properly reserved to such a marriage”

American Civil Liberties Union legislation representative Ian Thompson told Huffington Post that in addition to targeting the LGBTQ+ community, the bill’s language also “clearly encompasses discrimination against single mothers […] This bill is Indiana on steroids.”

The bill could also remove anti-discrimination legislation signed last year by Obama for LGBTQ+ federal contractors, and allow religious programs that receive federal grants (such as homeless shelters) to discriminate against LGBTQ+ people.

Hacking Team orchestrated brazen BGP hack to hijack IPs it didn’t own

The revelation is the latest to raise troubling questions about BGP, the core Internet routing mechanism that's almost entirely based on trust. Although the /24 block of affected addresses was small and inexplicably inactive at the time, the hijacking is already generating criticism not only of the world's continued dependence on the insecure framework, but also of the impropriety of Aruba, Hacking Team, and the Italian government for jointly making the fraud happen.

"BGP is a stupid, old, insecure core protocol of the Internet," Filippo Valsorda, an engineer on the CloudFlare Security Team, told Ars. "The affected IP class, 46.166.163.0/24, was unannounced (dead) at the time. However, the BGP trust game is delicate and critical and this reckless irresponsibility undermines the trust that the Internet survives on (and makes it sorely clear how it needs to move on from it)."

Why was Oscar-winning Snowden documentarian detained 50+ times in US airports?

by Joe Mullin

Laura Poitras gained notoriety as the documentary filmmaker behind the 2014 Oscar-winning movie Citizenfour, a film about the time she and Glenn Greenwald spent with NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.

What's less known about Poitras is that from 2006 until 2012, she was stopped at the US border every single time she entered the country. In all, she was stopped on more than 50 occasions. Poitras, who is a US citizen, never got a satisfactory explanation as to why the detentions took place.

Frustrated after years of stonewalling, today Poitras said she's working with lawyers at the Electronic Frontier Foundation to get answers. The group is filing a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Department of Justice and two other agencies.

Newswire: Twin Peaks-themed restaurant to open, invite a lot of Twin Peaks-based food jokes

by William Hughes

David Lynch’s Twin Peaks was famously fetishistic when it came to food, what with all the damn fine cups of coffee, heavenly cherry pies, and myriad donuts Special Agent Dale Cooper was always shoving down his endlessly affable gullet. Now, in the wake of the show’s upcoming revival on Showtime, a group of London restaurateurs are looking to capitalize on its resurgent popularity, launching The Owls Are Now What They Seem, a pop-up restaurant with a planned two-month tenure starting in the August.

Owls won’t be the first pop-culture-pop-up London has seen in recent years; Game Of Thrones got the treatment back in February, and a Breaking Bad-based restaurant is currently in the works. The Twin Peaks attempt at the concept, though, is being billed as an “immersive Twin Peaks theater, complete with a three-course meal designed by experimental foodies,” promising interactive experiences along with the ...

How A Bunch Of Government Space Geeks At NASA Won The Internet

In an era when the media whips itself into a frenzy over how to make things go viral, and marketers take their cues from big brands, a government entity has quickly and quietly become the darling of the internet.
