"is die hard a christmas movie?" is the most, rote, hackneyed, long-as-fuck in the tooth, un-funny, uninteresting line on the internet for, like, 10 years running. enough. its not cute or clever anymore, it's just obnoxious as fuck.
The fact that Die Hard is a Christmas movie isn’t really up for debate anymore (hell, The A.V. Club even sells sweatshirts about it), but that doesn’t make director John McTiernan recent interview with the American Film Institute about “how Die Hard became a Christmas movie” any less worthwhile.
thank the dark lord. we never would've heard the end of it.
Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State topped the final Associated Press college football poll of the regular season Sunday, with No. 4 Notre Dame comfortably ahead of No. 5 Texas A&M.
In the wake of brand new horror movie Smiley Face Killers, we’ve learned this week that Crispin Glover has booked his next gig, a starring role in HBO Max series “Red Bird Lane.”
Deadline broke the news, reporting that Glover (Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Willard) has been set as a series regular for what’s being described as a psychological thriller.
Deadline adds, “James Urbaniak, Jamie Clayton, Rya Kihlstedt and Grantham Coleman will appear as recurring characters. Damon Dayoub will guest star.”
The series “follows eight strangers who arrive at an isolated house, all for different reasons. Upon their mysterious and coincidental arrival, the strangers realize that something sinister and terrifying awaits them. Glover will play Jonah, a bad man who arrives at the mysterious house in the center of the thriller for money.”
“Red Bird Lane” is written by Sara Gran (“Southland”) and directed by David Slade (Hard Candy, “Hannibal”). The cast also includes Susan Sarandon and Kiersey Clemons.
Just a Christmas tradition that my boyfriend’s family does that I want to bring to our family since he will be celebrating with us this year. Usually my boyfriend’s mom makes churros from scratch but (a) I can’t cook/bake worth a damn and (b) it would be nice to support a local business if possible.
gross. how has espn not pulled the plug on this abomination yet?

The 2020-21 Texas Longhorns men’s and women’s basketball seasons will feature a combined 20 games on the Longhorn Network, including 12 games for the men’s team and eight for the women’s team. Four of those games are conference contests for head coach Shaka Smart’s team.

Lowell Galindo will handle play-to-play duties for men’s games, as well as hosting Game Plan with Shaka Smart starting in January. Alex Loeb gets the assignment of Game Plan with Vic Schaefer and play by play for women’s games, while Lance Blanks will serve as the color commentator alongside Galindo and Andrea Lloyd alongside Loeb.

On planet K2-141b, oceans are made of molten lava, winds reach supersonic speeds and rain is made of rocks. "Scientists have referred to the bizarre, hellish exoplanet as one of the most 'extreme' ever discovered," reports CBS News. From the report: According to a new study published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, scientists from McGill University, York University and the Indian Institute of Science Education have uncovered details of one of the newest "lava planets" -- a world that so closely orbits its host star that much of it is composed of flowing lava oceans. Scientists found the atmosphere and weather cycle of K2-141b to be particularly bizarre. The Earth-sized exoplanet appears to have a surface, ocean and atmosphere all made of the same ingredients: rocks.
While analyzing the planet's illumination pattern, scientists found that about two-thirds of the planet experiences perpetual daylight. K2-141b's close proximity to its star gravitationally locks it in place -- meaning the same side always faces the star. This scorching hot part of the planet reaches temperatures of over 5,400 degrees Fahrenheit. It's hot enough to not only melt rocks, but also vaporize them, creating a thin, inhospitable atmosphere. The rest of the planet is cloaked in never-ending darkness, reaching frigid temperatures of negative 328 degrees Fahrenheit.
The latest horror icon to join the “Horror Buddy” collection from Horror Decor is Zeke the Plumber, who ’90s kids surely remember from his appearance in “Salute Your Shorts.”
As Meagan recently explained here on BD, “Zeke the Plumber’s appearance was unexpected and terrifying. The mask, the unassuming outfit, and the gravelly quiet voice instilled actual nightmares for the generation that watched this infamous episode in 1991. For a certain age group, Zeke the Plumber remains one of the most traumatic figures from childhood.”
The brand new Zeke the Plumber “Horror Buddy” design is now available in both large and mini sizes, as well as a scaled-down backpack clip and even a holiday ornament.
Mini Buddy is approximately 12.5″ tall.
Large Buddy is approximately 22″ inches tall.
Backpack clip is approximately 5.5″ tall, 7.5″ with clip.
Ornament is approximately 5.5″ tall, 7.5″ with cord.
Gilbert, a class of 2009 recruit out of Lake Travis High School in Austin, began his career with the Longhorns before he was benched and eventually transferred to join the SMU Mustangs. He’ll replace rookie Ben DiNucci, who replaced veteran Andy Dalton. You get it.

great story, great book, great art by the great trad moore
Allnighter announced today that it will be adapting the hit Image Comics series The Strange Talent of Luther Strode as a feature film in partnership with series co-creators Justin Jordan and Tradd Moore. Jordan is adapting the comic and will write the screenplay.
The Strange Talent of Luther Strode, which was followed by The Legend of Luther Strode and The Legacy of Luther Strode, “deftly splices together the common DNA of the superhero and slasher archetypes for a brash and bloody adventure that is equal parts comic-book escapism and action-horror hybrid.”
“High schooler Luther Strode was always a little bit less than average – soft-spoken, skinny, and, more than anything, terrified that his estranged father would one day return to torment him and his mother once more. But that ended the day that Luther discovered “The Method” – an improbably old text hidden between the comic books and ragged paperbacks at his favorite used bookstore. But The Method is far more than it seems – and, as its ancient techniques rework Luther’s body and unlock the strange talents buried deep within, he will find himself transformed into a near-perfect physical specimen imbued with incredible strength, startling new abilities…and a killer’s instinct for violence that he can’t quite seem to shake.”
“When The Method’s masters arrive to observe Luther’s progress and draw him into action, he’ll be forced to make the ultimate choice: embrace the monster he was intended to be…or use his newfound power to protect the people – the classmates, the teachers, the neighbors – who never protected him when he needed them the most.”
“Luther Strode is one of the most beloved comic book series of the past decade and with good reason. Not only is it a master-class in the best that comics have to offer, but it’s horrifying, heartfelt, and funny all at once. Whether you like superheroes or horror, Strode is the rare series that equally speaks to the core of both genres and creates fascinating new dimensions in the process,” said Allnighter co-founder and partner Dinesh Shamdasani.
Allnighter’s Dinesh Shamdasani, Hunter Gorinson, and Amanda Kruse will produce the film alongside co-creators Jordan and Moore.
Kick over a tree stump and you’ll find ants, thousands of them swarming at the sudden disturbance. You could’ve leapt over it, oblivious, but you wanted to see what’s beneath. You won’t make that mistake again. We’re happier oblivious. If you saw what swims in the depths of the ocean—hello, dragonfish—you’d think…
finally. been looking for a columbo shirt for ages.
Designs endorsed by Maestro Alex Benedict!
If you like the whole world to know of your Columbo fandom, what could be better than wearing your love for the Lieutenant at every given opportunity?
Personally, I like little more than flinging on a Columbo t-shirt and strutting about like a pouter pigeon, accepting the admiring glances of the hoi polloi as I do so. If you’re the same, it could be time to visit the Columbophile TeePublic store, which is now stocking an expanded range of designs paying homage to the greatest detective show of all.
Better yet, there’s a 35% off site-wide sale from 28-31 October, offering a fabulous opportunity to shop ahead for Christmas or birthdays, for as well as shirts, the designs are also available on a range of other items including mugs, magnets and sweaters.
Columbo Ts: what these two wear whenever they’re fully clothed!
The genesis of the store was my own inability to find a Columbo logo t-shirt that utilised the original title font from the 70s’ series. To right that wrong, I had one designed specially and, in order to share the love, made it available via TeePublic.
I enjoy subtle allusions to the show, so have just added a series of designs that series’ aficionados will appreciate, but which will have less meaning to the man on the street, including Columbo’s licence plate, Nelson Hayward’s campaign slogan from Candidate for Crime, and business logos for Carsini Wineries, Milo Janus Health Spa and Ding-A-Ling ice-cream. More designs will follow in due course.
If not quite selling like hot cakes, the existing designs are certainly selling like bowls of chilli at Bert’s Diner, and that’s good enough for me. I’ve also curated some of the best other Columbo designs I can find for the store, as well as some stylish efforts for other classic TV shows, including Murder, She Wrote, The Rockford Files and MASH. There’s plenty to enjoy.
As a disclaimer, any purchases made through the store do earn me a small sum (a lot less than TeePublic makes), but you do get some tangible goodies for it, so everyone’s a winner! I always advocate for making purchases during the site’s frequent sales, so usually alert my followers on Twitter and Facebook to such sales to ensure they get the best deals possible.
That’s about all I can say, folks. If you do purchase, please hit me up on social media when your items arrive. I’d dearly love to see the world awash with Columbo fashions. Who knows? Perhaps you’ll make some new friends / admirers because of them?
For now, I’ll bid you adieu and get back to the task I’ve been procrastinating on for some days: a full review of Murder in Malibu. Words continue to fail me. Wish me luck…
As anyone alive right now can attest, real life is often as terrifying as any movie. Leatherface is scary, sure, but can his buzzing (and entirely imaginary) chainsaw really compete with the actual horrors lurking beyond your front door? For those seeking a different and maybe deeper chill than the kind your typical…
qbu? really? i feel like ou/lincoln riley probably have something to say about that.
The former offensive coordinator-turned-head coach is helping Buckeyes QBs finally get drafted in the first round -- and is making sure the position is set in Columbus for the future.
more justification for the netflix cancellation. this was one of the few shows we followed. not surprised.
Holt McCallany cruelly teased us with the potential for five (!) seasons of David Fincher’s serial killer drama Mindhunter last year, telling The Hollywood Reporterthat Fincher told him, “[E]ven if I fuck it up, it’s gonna go five seasons, and I don’t intend to fuck it up.” Well, we’re not going to say Fincher fucked…
We knew that a new take on The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was in the works from producer Fede Alvarez (Evil Dead, Don’t Breathe), and today Legendary has launched an official website for the upcoming film. On the website you’ll find some early art for the movie, which comes with the promise that “the face of madness” (Leatherface, of course) will return in 2021.
On the site you can enter your e-mail address to receive a motion poster and a code redeemable for an exclusive Calling Card in Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare.
David Blue Garcia (Tejano) is directing the movie, written by Chris Thomas Devlin.
“The new film, a continuation of Tobe Hooper’s shocking 1974 seminal horror classic, marks the return of Leatherface, re-introducing one of the most iconic villains of the horror genre to a whole new generation.”
The cast is led by Elsie Fisher (“Castle Rock”) alongside Sarah Yarkin (Happy Death Day 2U), Mark Burnham (Wrong Cops), Moe Dunford (The Dig), Olwen Fouéré (Mandy), Alice Krige (“Star Trek”), Jacob Latimore (The Maze Runner), Nell Hudson (Victoria), Jessica Allain (The Laundromat), Sam Douglas (Snatch), William Hope (Dark Shadows), and Jolyon Coy (“War & Peace”).
Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic launched a franchise that includes all kinds of sequels, remakes and reboots. Most recently, Leatherface served as a prequel to the original classic.
Alvarez is producing with Bad Hombre’s Rodolfo Sayagues, alongside Kim Henkel (co-writer of the 1974 film), Ian Henkel and Pat Cassidy, who are producing via their Exurbia Films.
secondly, i guess i've never listened to miley cirus sing before? just listened to this abomination of a clip and she sounds like a fucking 50 year old chainsmoker? holy fuck.
Miley Cyrus is working on an album of METALLICA covers.
The pop star revealed her latest project during a chat with Interview magazine. Speaking about how she has been spending her downtime during the COVID-19 pandemic, she said: "We've been working on a METALLICA cover album and I'm here working on that. We're so lucky to be able to continue to work on our art during all of this. At first, it felt uninspiring and now I've been totally ignited."
Miley previously performed a cover of METALLICA's "Nothing Else Matters" at U.K.'s Glastonbury festival in 2019.
Cyrus's rendition of the METALLICA classic — which can be heard below — came five months after drummer Lars Ulrich said that he was "stunned" by her take on TEMPLE OF THE DOG's "Say Hello 2 Heaven" at the "I Am The Highway: A Tribute To Chris Cornell" concert at the Forum in Los Angeles.
Back in January 2019, Ulrich took to his Instagram to post a photo of him backstage with Cyrus, along with the message: "Still stunned by your next level version of 'Say Hello 2 Heaven' for Chris! Beyond inspiring."
