A high-resolution tour of the Moon from NASA

Using imagery and data that the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft has collected since 2009, NASA made this video tour of the Moon in 4K resolution. This looked incredible on my iMac screen.
As the visualization moves around the near side, far side, north and south poles, we highlight interesting features, sites, and information gathered on the lunar terrain.

Turn Your Yard Into A Movie Theater With This $99 Screen
Emahlstadtthat mustard back yard summer film series must be right around the corner, right...?

If you’re the new owner of a Nebula Capsule or any other projector, you’re going to need to get an outdoor screen. Just imagine it, you can use it to play video games, show a slideshow at an event, or watch movies from the comfort of your yard.
Karl Urban to star in Amazon's new superhero-killing show
Emahlstadtlove the comic series, but its definitely one of those "they-could-never-do-this-on-tv" types of properties, so i'm at least interested to watch them try, even if i don't have a lot of optimism that fans of the book will be well served in the end.

Karl Urban is headed back to TV, with Deadline reporting that the Star Trek and Thor: Ragnarok star—who once graced Fox’s short-lived sci-fi cop show Almost Human with his grumpy visage—has signed on as the lead in Amazon’s The Boys. Produced by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the series is about a group of government…
[It Came From the ’80s] Minions From Hell in ‘The Gate’
Emahlstadti so vividly remember this scene from childhood.
With horror industry heavy hitters already in place from the 1970s, the 1980s built upon that with the rise of brilliant minds in makeup and effects artists, as well as advances in technology. Artists like Rick Baker, Rob Bottin, Alec Gillis, Tom Woodruff Jr., Tom Savini, Stan Winston, and countless other artists that delivered groundbreaking, mind-blowing practical effects that ushered in the pre-CGI Golden Age of Cinema. Which meant a glorious glut of creatures in horror. More than just a technical marvel, the creatures on display in ‘80s horror meant tangible texture that still holds up decades later. Grotesque slimy skin to brutal transformation sequences, there wasn’t anything the artists couldn’t create. It Came From the ‘80s is a series that will pay homage to the monstrous, deadly, and often slimy creatures that made the ‘80s such a fantastic decade in horror.
For budding horror fans, there’s perhaps no better film for the formative years than The Gate. One of the few to star kids, it doesn’t water down the horror for its demographic. While playing on fears of abandonment and growing pains, it keeps its themes of family values from venturing too far into after-school special territory, letting Glen (Stephen Dorff) and Terry’s (Louis Tripp) fantastical journey take center stage. A simple premise, in which Glen and Terry accidentally unleash a horde from hell after digging up a hole in the backyard, gives way to a nightmare full of minions, dead men in walls, and more.
Stephen Dorff and Louis Tripp are great as the 12-year-old friends forced to contend with demons from hell, but it’s those pint-sized demons that threaten to steal the film the entire time. Not even demonic doppelganger Terry, reanimated construction workers, or massive serpentine demons can upstage the little one-foot tall minions. Somehow, the minions become even cooler knowing how they came together behind the scenes.
Special visual effects designer and supervisor Randall William Cook designed the minions. Having worked on visual effects for The Thing, Ghostbusters, Fright Night, Poltergeist II: The Other Side, and eventually The Lord of the Rings trilogy, it’s no surprise that Cook’s artistry brought a lot to the low budget Canadian and U.S. co-production. Cook created illustrations and then a maquette for the minions, and special makeup artist Craig Reardon, with his small crew of five, set about making full-sized suits using Cook as a model.

That’s right; the minions in The Gate aren’t tiny after all, but fully-grown men wearing foam latex suits. Reardon and his team created roughly 15 suits that Cook had asked for, with mix and match claws and feet designed to be worn separately to give more variance to the minions. From there, Reardon could layer the shots as needed to make it look like there were 30-45 minions on screen versus just the 15 suits they had to work with. This meant that most of the sequences involving the minions made very impressive use of forced perspective. Scenes like Al and Glen pressed against the bedroom wall as the dead workman crashed into the floor, only to spill into dozens of minions, looks straightforward but prove to be far more complex with the forced perspective. In reality, Denton and Dorff were strapped to wires, dangling above with the minions shot on a lower level against enlarged furniture, some in pieces to further the perspective, to give the optical illusion of scale. The forced perspective was taken a step further by shooting at a slow speed and having the child actors move at a much slower speed while the actors in minion suits were instructed to move faster, giving the normal speed playback even speedier minion movement.
A huge fan of Ray Harryhausen, Cook also employed the use of stop-motion animation for some of the demon work, especially the climactic battle between Glen and a massive demon. Even the small bit around the dead work man in the walls took a lot of love and planning; Reardon didn’t want it to look like just another nondescript zombie. Drawing inspiration from the book, The Bog People: Iron-Age Man Preserved, an in-depth study on naturally preserved bodies found in peat bogs, Reardon designed his Work Man around bog bodies while incorporating more traditional design elements like milky eyes. For only a few minutes of screen-time, Reardon’s Work Man remains one of the scariest parts of the movie.

The universal coming of age themes of Michael Nankin’s screenplay keeps The Gate everlasting in terms of story, but it’s Cook, Reardon, and their crew’s tireless work that makes the film hold up three decades later. The creative freedom allotted to Cook and Reardon meant their imagination could run wild during the creation of the denizens from hell, delivering memorable creatures and scenes that should continue to lure in new generations of horror fans to come.
FX Giving “Y: The Last Man” New Life!
Emahlstadtvaporware at this point, just like 100 bullets.
Much like “Locke and Key”, another comic adaptation that’s been in development hell is the excellent “Y: The Last Man”, a post-apocalyptic pandemic series that takes place in a world in which all men — except for one — are dead.
New hope comes in new via Variety, who reports that FX has ordered a pilot based on the comic series! The team behind it is impressive.
Michael Green (“American Gods,” “Blade Runner 2049,” “Logan”) and Aida Mashaka Croal (“Luke Cage,” “Turn”) are set to serve as co-showrunners on the project, and will executive produce alongside Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force (“American Crime Story,” “Pose,” “The Hunger Games”) and Brian K. Vaughan. Melina Matsoukas (“Insecure,” “Master of None,” “Beyonce: Formation”) will direct the pilot and also serve as an executive producer.
Beginning in 2002, the comic book series — by Vaughn and Pia Guerra and published by DC Comics — ran for 60 issues. It received three Eisner Awards, the top honor in the comic-book industry, as well as the first Hugo Award for best graphic story. It explores gender, race, class, and survival.
“Y: The Last Man” has a long development history, with the rights first being acquired by New Line for a potential feature film more than a decade ago. As recently as 2013, Dan Trachtenberg had been tapped to direct a film adaptation that never came to fruition. After New Line’s rights lapsed, FX began work on a series adaptation that has been in development for more than two years.

RLJE Films Hires the Nightmarish ‘Housewife’
Emahlstadtlooks like a good one -- getting some suspiria vibes
RLJE Films has acquired all North American rights to the horror film Housewife, Bloody Disgusting just discovered.
In the film directed by Baskin‘s Can Evrenol, “Holly’s childhood was a nightmare—at age 7, she watched her mother kill her sister and father. Twenty years later, Holly’s dreams remain plagued by that painful memory. An unexpected reunion with an old friend further complicates matters, introducing Holly to a strange cult-like group that follows a celebrity psychic, one who takes a special liking to Holly. And because of him, her worst nightmares become shockingly real.”
Daniel Kurland reviewed the film for Bloody and wrote:
“Housewife is a dive off the deep end into unleashed dream logic.”
Housewife, which stars Clementine Poidatz (Shut-In) and David Sakurai (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald), had its world premiere at L’Etrange Festival in France and was an official selection at the SITGES International Film Festival, Cinapocalypse in Chicago, Brooklyn Horror Film Festival and the Vancouver, Portland and Denver International Film Festivals, winning “Best Director” award at Melbourne’s MonsterFest.
RLJE Films plans to release the film in the fall of 2018.
All Hail These 10 Satanic Movies!
Emahlstadthaven't seen any of these, but now must see them all
Everyone has sinister fantasies. Quiet secrets and inner desires of being a witch, casting spells – there’s a little devil in us all. We all crave power, covet things we shouldn’t want, and seek even the slightest feign of rebellion against authority figures who attempt to control us. Whether we face down our demons by picking our poison at a local bar with friends, attending an ear-shattering show, or adorning our bodies with skin-deep forever portraits, one way or another, we all tap into something we’ve been taught to ignore. We all want to be a little evil.
Movies allow us to flirt with the darkness without going overboard with experimentation. In its own special way, film is a portal into other universes, a crystal ball that projects alternate dimensions and sinful scenarios that we might normally never tip a pinkie toe into, and yet, here it is, so easy to access and stimulating to see. That’s why demonic movies can be so much fun to watch, and that’s why, on the heels of the holiest of days, this writer is delivering unto thou a list of the very best satanic movies to watch.
THE DEVIL RIDES OUT (1968)
It’s always a pleasure seeing Christopher Lee barking out orders about how to avoid the devil, showing the amateurs how to cast our spirits with a slight, annoyed wave of his hand, and The Devil Rides Out is no exception. In the film, Lee, a.k.a. Nicholas, attempts to save the lives of Simon and his friend Tanith, lest they be stolen by a local satanic group and used to serve the devil. Together, Nicholas and his old friend Rex Van Ryn try to protect their friends from the satan worshippers, who seek to baptize the youngsters in a ritual to sell their souls. Terence Fisher’s 1968 masterpiece is a gorgeous picture, filled to the brim with fascinating depictions of the dark arts, all culminating in a showdown between good and evil where no one is safe and everyone is susceptible to the power of Satan.
THE SENTINEL (1977)
Michael’s been begging Alison to move in with him for what seems like forever, but Alison, terrified that she’ll wind up like her mother, is determined to remain independent. That’s why when he asks her to marry him and come live rent-free in his fancy condo, Alison uses what little money she’s made from modeling to rent a cheap Brooklyn apartment and live alone. Although initially proud of her decision, Alison soon finds the real reason that she found a place to live that’s so affordable: it resides over the gates of Hell. Truly unnerving and wickedly atmospheric, The Sentinel is not one to be missed – even if only for the few moments where you get to see young and yet-to-be-famous Jeff Goldblum in a distractingly deep v-neck ensemble.
THE WAILING (2016)
There’s a strange disease going around a small village in South Korea, and it’s causing a myriad of murders. No one knows exactly what’s causing the sickness to spread, but it all seems to lead back to the day that the Japanese stranger entered the premises. He lives up in the mountains, and the trail that leads the way to his home is littered with photos of the deceased and shrines bejeweled with goat heads and gore. Officer Jong-Goo knows he must investigate the situation, for the sake of his family, and his hometown, but little does he know that if he had just stayed away from the odd old man up in the hills, his daughter never would’ve come down with the same sickness that’s been permeating every corner of this little Goksung town, and he never would’ve had to call upon a priest to extract the demons that now plague her tiny soul. If you haven’t seen The Wailing, stop what you’re doing right now and watch it. As if it weren’t hauntingly gorgeous enough on its own, just wait until you see the exorcism scene.
DEATHGASM (2015)
Okay, so technically, if you wanted to get down to brass tacks, this is less a movie about Satan and more a movie about this demon called ‘The Blind One’, but hey, I would use any excuse to put his ridiculously awesome, brutal and bloody film on this list. Written and directed by Jason Lei Howden, Deathgasm is a story about a bored teenage boy named Brodie who stumbles upon – or steals, if you wanna get technical about it – an ancient text which contains old music for some heavy metal jams. Already in a band with his buddies, Brodie and his best friend Zakk decide to learn the riffs and play them loud, an action which inconsequently leads to the end of the world. Unwittingly, the boys summon a primeval being, and inadvertently turn all of their friends and loved ones into ravenous monsters. Now, it’s up to the gang, along with Medina, the babe whom Brodie carries the biggest torch for, to battle the bloodsucking fiends that swarm in from every angle, and find a way to end the apocalypse before it’s too late.
THE DEVILS (1971)
Does it even really count as a Satanic film if Ken Russell didn’t direct it? It’s a question worth asking, especially when there’s such proof of his wicked mastery in a little film called The Devils. The Devils is the realest deal. In it, Father Urbain Grandier (Oliver Reed) is accused of witchcraft by a sexually repressed nun named Sister Jeanne (Vanessa Redgrave), and chaos ensues. One of the earliest films on this list, Ken Russell helped pave the way for the over-the-top taboo films we know today. His blasphemous bravery and unabashed artistic expression permitted other younger filmmakers to come forth and make the movies they wanted to make, without fear of being cast out of the film world forever. In his own way, Russell not only crafted a beautifully shot film, but pushed the envelope just a little bit father in cinema, thereby helping everyone who came after.
THE BELIEVERS (1987)
After his wife dies in a freak accident in Minneapolis, Cal Jamison (Martin Sheen) moves him and his son Chris to New York City where he attains a job as a police psychologist for the New York City Police Department. Finally, Cal feels that his family is safe, but unbeknownst to him, a series of brutal and inexplicable murders are about to begin sweeping through the town, and all of the victims are small children. Suddenly, the last person Cal has left is put in danger, as his little boy becomes the latest target of the cult that’s sacrificing kids in antique brujeria rituals. Will Cal be able to end a practice that’s existed longer than he’s been alive? Only time will tell, as the innocents of the city fall helplessly at his feet, and the power of black magic permeates the very air he breathes.
THE BLACKCOAT’S DAUGHTER (2015)
There’s something looming in the incandescent quiet of the halls of the boarding room at school, and it’s coming for Joan and Kat. It’s making them do evil things, whispering to them in the dark about ill deeds that need doing, and offering putrid penance in exchange for their crimes. The serpent in the garden come to spill secrets and spread knowledge. Soon, Kat has all kinds of new ideas, and begins practicing them on her classmates and her friends. Ideas that leave bloody handprints on the walls and heads in fireplaces. She is but a servant of Satan, sworn to do his bidding, and although reluctant at first, this once shy school girl now happily bends to the will of Beelzebub. Then sadly, the day dawns when the devil has left her soul, and she is alone again, a mere mortal full of sin. How far will she go to get him back again? The directorial debut from Osgood Perkins (son of Anthony Perkins), The Blackcoat’s Daughter is eerily whimsical. Taut, intense, and superbly acted by Kiernan Shipka, this little indie gem is an all-timer satanic flick.
JOHN CARPENTER’S PRINCE OF DARKNESS (1987)
John Carpenter doesn’t usually come to mind when thinking about satanic films, but the master of horror actually danced with the devil back in the late eighties under the façade of a sci-fi thriller, when he wrangled up a gang of puffy-haired youngsters and trapped them in a church with an experiment gone wrong. It’s actually quite brilliant because it’s so different from every satanic movie that came before it, and honestly, after it as well. People typically go for an angle a la The Exorcist, but Carpenter was never really one to blend in with the crowd. That’s why when it came time for the man to show his version of ‘Ol Scratch, Carpenter went with scientists typing on computer, collecting data, and ultimately accidentally morphing one of their own into the son of Satan, who then tries to bring his dad into the land of man. It’s such an unusual approach, and yet, it works so well. The tension is so heightened throughout the entire picture, and the final scene is one of the most intense and upsetting finales in all of his work. If you’ve never seen it, or it’s been a while, go watch John Carpenter’s Prince of Darkness, and praise the Unholy Prince by way of the man who gave us The Thing.
THE MEPHISTO WALTZ (1971)
When the scathing reviews of his latest performance unmercifully begin to roll in, Myles Clarkson knows once and for all that his career as a pianist is over. Trying his best to cope and live his life, Clarkson befriends an older, much more famous player named Duncan Mowbray Ely. Soon after their friendship begins, Ely’s life ends, but as this old Satanist has been planning for quite some time, when his death occurs, his soul switches into Clarkson’s body, an act so sly that not even his wife notices. Suddenly, Clarkson is a star, his hands fly as though of their own accord on the piano, and he brings weeping audiences to their feet, night after night, just like he’s always dreamed. But how long can this spell last until someone sees the devil in the room?
THE DEVIL’S RAIN (1975)
Young William Shatner shirtless, bearing a carved pentagram in his chest, Ernest Borgnine as the High Priest of the Church of Satan, queen Ida Lupino in a devil-worshipping flick – honestly, what more could you want from a movie? The Devil’s Rain has it all. Directed by Robert Fuest, this story tells the tale of a Satanic cult leader who’s burned at the stake, but casts a spell that allows him to return hundreds of years later to wreak vengeance upon the descendants of those who did him dirty. Oh, did I mention that when people sell their souls to Satan and join the cult, their eyes melt out of their heads? Why are you still reading this? Go watch The Devil’s Rain.

it’s a terrible and inaccessible design decision to leave base building in fornite pubg mode but nothing is more hilarious than shooting someone across a lake and then watching them instantly materialize a three story house around themselves in a panic— ♁Aevee♄Bee♇ (@MammonMachine) March 26, 2018

Kotobukiya’s Sexy ‘Evil Dead 2’ Statue Gender Swaps Bruce Campbell
And yet, still not as sexy as the real Bruce Campbell.
The last few years, Japanese company Kotobukiya has brought a handful of iconic horror characters into their line of “Bishoujo” (which translates to “beautiful girl”) statues. Yes, they’ve been turning male horror icons into sexy females, kicking off the line with Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and even Chucky. Evil Dead II‘s Ash is next!
Originally teased at Comic Con last year and then sneak previewed at Toy Fair earlier this year, Kotobukiya just put the statue up for pre-order, with an October 2018 date.
“Ash’s appearance is expertly translated into the Bishoujo style by series illustrator Shunya Yamashita.
Reflecting the violent nature of the film, Ash’s clothes are tattered, exposing her robust form. Ash stands on an exquisitely detailed base modeled after the floor of the cabin from the film, with a decomposing hand peeking out from the cellar door. The Necronomicon Ex‐Mortis is detached, allowing you to display it wherever you like.”
The PVC statue stands 10.62 inches tall. Pre-order through Big Bad Toy Store!
Ren & Stimpy creator John Kricfalusi accused of sexually exploiting teenage girls
Emahlstadtnot even slightly shocking if you're at all familiar with his more adult-oriented toons.

In an extensive report from BuzzFeed, cartoonist John Kricfalusi—the creator of iconic Nickelodeon series Ren & Stimpy—has been accused of sexually exploiting teenage girls, promising them careers in animation at his studio Spumco while allegedly grooming them for sexual relationships. One of the women, Robyn Byrd,…
Texas LB Cameron Townsend moving to RB
Emahlstadtouch. thats not good.
The Longhorns are holding “open tryouts” out the position as head coach Tom Herman’s frustration mounts.
As Texas Longhorns running backs continue to struggle with fumble issues in practice, head coach Tom Herman has moved junior linebacker Cameron Townsend to the position as part of “open tryouts” at that spot.
“We fumbled the ball way too many times today on offense,” Herman said on Tuesday following a rainy practice that was eventually moved to the indoor practice facility. “We’ve got to do a job getting our guys right and protecting the football. Again, as I’ve told you guys many times, there are two demands in this program and that’s effort and ball security. We’ve got to figure out a way to do a better job protecting the football. We will.”
So Herman clearly isn’t happy with any of the players currently on campus, a group that includes junior Tristian Houston and sophomores Daniel Young and Toneil Carter. Young and Carter combined for three fumbles last season, while Houston hasn’t been a factor since arriving as a member of the 2015 recruiting class.
Like Houston, Townsend has always been buried on the depth chart since his arrival in Austin. A consensus four-star prospect in the 2015 recruiting class, the 6’0, 215-pounder played in 10 games on special teams in 2016, recording two tackles, before seeing action against San Jose State and Oklahoma last season.
Now Townsend will have a chance at a new position, though it’s not clear that he played running back at any point past middle school.
Sailing the Sea Of Thieves without a crew is lonely and strange
Emahlstadt"Rather than fighting back, I snuck onto their boat, tossed some of their treasure overboard, looted their supplies, and hid on the bottom deck as they sailed to a port. My plan was to wait until they dropped the anchor and then steal the ship so I could crash it while cackling like a madman, but after a few minutes of being a stowaway, they spotted me."

This article focuses on what it’s like to play Rare’s multiplayer pirate simulator Sea Of Thieves all by your lonesome. Next week, we’ll be following it up with a roundtable discussion based on the A.V. Club staff’s multiplayer sessions.
Actually, two actors will play Michael Myers in the new Halloween movie
Emahlstadtfinally finished the first 8 "original" films. i would rank them (best to worst): 1, 2, 4/5, 7, 3, 6, 8, and i still don't think they're better than F13. will probably also revisit the zombie reboots between now and october, but in the meantime will move on to watching all the puppet masters, then the wishmasters.

Michael Myers is occasionally depicted as an unstoppable murder machine, but one of his greatest weaknesses (beyond his distaste for running and the vulnerability of his eyes) is the fact that there’s only one of him. That will still be the case for director David Gordon Green’s reboot of the series, but he will at…
Sideshow’s Jaw Dropping ‘Aliens’ Queen Maquette Was Supervised By the Film’s Artists
Emahlstadtwant
“This is the most authentic reproduction of the Queen that’s ever been done.”
Countless different toys and collectibles of the Queen from Aliens have been released over the years, so many in fact that you’d need an entire room to display them all. But Sideshow Collectibles recently set out to make the definitive recreation of the 1986 film’s monster, and they worked with actual Aliens effects artists to achieve that goal.
Detailed in a new behind the scenes video posted by io9 today, Sideshow’s upcoming Aliens Queen maquette was made with the help of former Stan Winston Studio artists Shane Mahan and John Rosengrant, who helped design the Queen for Aliens. The duo, now part of Legacy Effects, digitally scanned the original quarter-scale maquette to ensure that Sideshow’s reproduction was as close to screen-accurate as possible.
“We wanted to make sure that this piece really reflected the Queen from the movie,” Rosengrant says in the video. “It really is 1-to-1, from 1986 to today.”
More details are coming soon, so hit up Sideshow for updates.

‘Hellblade’ Finally Heading to Xbox One April 11th
Emahlstadtexcellent. was sad to miss this one due to console exclusivity. will be picking it up fo sho.
Look, we all know that Ninja Theory’s Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is awesome. Unfortunately, for Xbox One users, they haven’t had the opportunity to experience the awesomeness. Well, that changes next month, as the critically-acclaimed action game is headed to Xbox One April 11th.
As an added bonus, for XBox One X users, Hellblade will also be enhanced for Xbox One X. According to Ninja Theory, Hellblade will come equipped with three performance modes: Enhanced Visuals will add extra effects and visual quality; High Framerate will run the game at 60 frames per second; and High Resolution will run the game at 4K resolution with dynamic scaling. HDR is supported as standard on both Xbox One and Xbox One X. Hellblade will set you back $30USD on Xbox, but you’ll get a 10% discount if you pre-order today.
I hate to sound like a broken record, so I’ll just say *insert line urging you to buy the Hellblade here*.
David hurts the ones he loves in deleted Legion scene
Emahlstadtstill kinda bummed about this show. didn't even make it to the end of sn 1.

The first season of Noah Hawley’s Legion explored, among many, many other things, the relationship between Haller siblings David (Dan Stevens) and Amy (Katie Aselton). The former was perpetually troubled, while the latter became almost hyper-vigilant of what she originally perceived as her brother’s mood swings.
These Custom Horror Movie VHS Tapes Are Way Too Cool
As a VHS lover for life, one of my personal favorite things is when artists keep the dead format alive by doing unique things with those old tapes that many threw in the trash long ago. One artist, for example, spends his time making custom-colored VHS tapes of horror favorites, while another is literally turning tapes into horror icons.
Over in the Etsy shop ReadfulThings, you’ll find a collection of one-of-a-kind VHS and Betamax sculptures that turn classic horror tapes into insanely cool works of art!
The handmade, mixed media sculptures use polymer clay and other materials to breathe new life into old tapes, each one themed after the movie contained on the tape. Horror favorites The Thing, Critters, Creepshow and The Blob are currently available, selling for $80 apiece.
Now THIS is how you recycle and make new art out of old things!
