The Best Portable Mini Projector

by Sabrina Imbler and Chris Heinonen
Emahlstadt

hmmm.... still waiting for that summer outdoor film series at the mustards'.

The Best Portable Mini Projector

After testing seven models this year, we think the Anker Nebula Mars II is the best portable mini projector for the occasional movie night or Netflix marathon. What impressed us most about the Mars II is its ease of use, great Android TV interface, and long battery life. Although no projector we tested produced an incredibly accurate image compared with a full-sized projector, the Mars II delivered good performance, with solid image brightness and contrast.

Atari's retro console has a new name, but remains a tease

i will pay half of everything i own for a playable, updated version of kaboom with a paddle controler

Atari's retro Ataribox console has been more sizzle than steak since it was first unveiled last summer, with delays and a distinct lack of game announcements dampening the enthusiasm. And unfortunately, that trend is mostly continuing today. The company has announced that it's rebranding the Ataribox as the Atari VCS in a nod to the 2600's little-used full name and plans to show prototypes of the system, the Classic Joystick and the Modern Controller at the Game Developers Conference this week. However, that's about all it's showing.

Rice OT grad transfer Calvin Anderson chooses Texas over Auburn, Michigan, Oklahoma

by Gerald Goodridge
Emahlstadt

woooo!!!!

The Longhorns now have their left tackle for the 2018 season.

Rice graduate transfer offensive tackle Calvin Anderson has made his decision, and that means the Texas Longhorns added arguably the most significant addition to their 2018 class on Saturday, as Anderson announced via Twitter his intention to return to Austin and join the Longhorns over his three other finalists, Auburn, Michigan, and Oklahoma.

Anderson comes to Texas after starting 36 consecutive games for Rice over his three seasons in Houston, and brings a wealth of talent, as well as experience to a unit that was much maligned in 2017

According to Pro Football Focus, he finished both his 2016 and 2017 campaigns as one of the top linemen in the country, and rated out better than all but one Texas offensive lineman.

In 2017, Anderson was one of the most efficient pass blockers in the all of FBS, allowing just one sack and six hurries in 290 pass-blocking snaps for the Owls. The site gave his junior campaign a grade of 82.8 for the year. For context, Connor Williams graded out at a 85.7 and was the only Texas lineman with a higher grade than Anderson last season.

The Westlake product was a hot-commodity on the transfer market this offseason, as well as a top priority for the Texas staff. Anderson met with coaches from Michigan, TCU, Oklahoma and Auburn, in addition to Texas.

The Longhorns even enlisted fellow Westlake graduates Sam Ehlinger and Breckyn Hager to help recruit Anderson during the offseason.

As a graduate transfer, Anderson will be able to play immediately for the Longhorns, and hopes to be a major contributor for the Longhorns in 2018 to improve his shot at playing in the NFL.

Bearing in mind Anderson’s importance to the program’s immediate future and Anderson’s NFL aspirations, Texas can largely credit its latest addition to recently-hired offensive line coach Herb Hand, whom Anderson raved about in a recent interview with 247Sports.

“I think Herb Hand is a big one for me because Herb Hand was the first guy to come meet me on the recruiting (trail),” Anderson said. “As soon as this whole recruiting thing started … he was recruiting me to come to Auburn. And it was good because the pitches that he had for me were less like pitches and more like reasons why he believes I am individually a good player and why he thinks he can help me improve my game. So I like that.”

“We talked a lot about his impact that he can have on me, so when he went over to Texas it wasn’t like he was changing up his recruiting pitch. He was saying the exact same thing he had been saying to me the entire time,” Anderson added. “I appreciated that, so I was drawn to coach Herb from the get go regardless of what school he was at, because I think that he can have a big impact on my future as an offensive lineman as I move to the professional level next year.”

With Anderson now in the fold, he become’s the frontrunner to fill in for Williams at left tackle, and if Texas gets its way, he’ll bolster an offensive line that struggled mightily in 2017.

Jester King 2018 Cellar Release BeerPulse

(Austin, TX) – Jester King announced its 2018 Cellar Release and lottery this week. More details below via email newsletter…

Over the years, we’ve held onto a few cases of many of the batches of beer we’ve made. As time has gone by, the beer has added up. Texas grad transfer OT target Calvin Anderson set to decide

by Wescott Eberts
Emahlstadt

fingers crossed

Calvin Anderson (left)

The Longhorns are one of four finalists.

The Texas Longhorns are in a position to significantly alter the dynamic of the 2018 offensive line if new co-offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Herb Hand can reel in graduate transfer offensive tackle Calvin Anderson, who left the Rice program this spring:

Five-star wide receiver Jordan Whittington is also set to announce on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT, so it could be a big day for the Longhorns. Or one filled with tremendous disappointment. Or even some combination of both. There will be feels.

The other three finalists for Anderson’s services are Auburn, Michigan, and Oklahoma. All four schools received visits from the 6’5, 300-pounder and all four schools have a legitimate shot of landing him, especially since Anderson is considering this as a long-term business decision that will impact where he spends the next seven or so months.

Were that not the case, the Longhorns would seem like the prohibitive favorites — he could stay close to this girlfriend in Texas, as well as his parents, who live in Austin, where Anderson played high school football at Westlake.

Playing in his home town would also allow Anderson to reunite with fellow Westlake alums Breckyn Hager and Sam Ehlinger.

The Wolverines could be behind the other three schools since offensive coordinator Tim Drevno, the primary recruiter for Anderson, recently resigned and took a job at USC.

Other than those potential considerations, all four schools have a need at the position and offer tremendous opportunities for Anderson to advance his football career.

So this one is tough to call in the final hours.

“The Walking Dead”: New “Carl’s Journey” Promo Video Will Make You Feel Things

by John Squires
Emahlstadt

carl dying might be reason enough to start watching again, though i've heard this show has become absolutely dreadful.

Friend. Fighter. Hero.

The journey of Carl Grimes is coming to a sad end this coming Sunday night, when “The Walking Dead” returns for the second half of its eighth season. We know this because the mid-season finale revealed that Carl had been bitten by a zombie earlier in the season, and of course because actor Chandler Riggs has confirmed he’s moving on.

A new promo video from AMC prepares us for Carl’s demise, tugging on our heartstrings with clips of Carl and his dad in happier times. Stock up on tissues for Sunday.

“The Walking Dead” returns to AMC on Sunday, February 25.

In the back half of Season 8…

“All out war has had a devastating impact on every person involved. The communities themselves are fractured. Alexandria has been destroyed, the Hilltop finds themselves pinned, and the Kingdom is shattered — half of them dead, the other half controlled by the Saviors.

At the very center — Rick, having been distracted by the conflict, has just returned home to learn that Carl, who heroically shepherded the Alexandrians to safety during Negan’s attack, has been bitten by a walker. Once his sole motivation in this otherwise stark existence, Rick is forced to deal with this reality. Carl has always been a beacon of hope, a symbol for the remaining thread of humanity — lessons that the survivors around him would be wise to take with them as this war surges onward.

But Rick isn’t the only person who’s living in peril. Aaron and Enid are in a dire situation at Oceanside — unclear if they’re in friendly territory, or if they’ve just made new enemies. Father Gabriel will do his part in attempting to smuggle Dr. Carson safely back to the Hilltop and a pregnant Maggie is wrestling with the many moral gray areas that come with leadership during war. In a standoff with the Saviors, she must decide how to proceed with the dozens of POW lives she’s currently in control of, as well as new complications that come with being a leader.

In addition to the war, Negan continues to deal with struggles within his ranks as workers, traitors, and others’ thirst for power cause conflict at the Sanctuary. Having gifted the Saviors a major victory, Eugene’s loyalty is repeatedly tested as new obstacles present themselves.

As all-out-war consumes us, the line between good and evil continues to blur. People fighting for what they believe in. Everybody working together for something bigger — to feel safe and have a world worth living in.”

The last few years, Japanese company Kotobukiya has brought a handful of iconic horror characters into their line of “Bishoujo” (which translates to “beautiful girl”) statues. Yes, they’ve been turning male horror icons into sexy females, kicking off the line with Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and even Chucky.

At Comic Con last year, the company provided concept art for a “Sexy Ash” statue, and they’re showing off a prototype at Toy Fair this year. Also on display at their booth is conceptual art for an upcoming “Sexy Pinhead” statue, and they’re teasing a “Sexy Michael Myers” statue as well.

Additionally, Kotobukiya has on display a truly awe-inspiring Freddy Krueger statue, and we’ve got images of all the aforementioned collectibles via ToyArk!

Revolver Full-Tang IPA cans BeerPulse

(Granbury, TX) – Fans of Revolver Brewing now will be able to enjoy four of the brewer’s signature beers in cans for the first time. The new cans are expected to start hitting shelves this week.

“Texas is a big, hot, outdoor-friendly state, and there are a lot of opportunities here where we think cans will go that bottles can’t,” said Revolver Brewing co-founder Rhett Keisler. “Texans like cans — they’re the fastest-growing segment of the craft beer market. They’re lighter, easy to transport and very beer friendly.”

Revolver Long-Range Pils cans BeerPulse

The first beers selected for canning are the brewery’s flagship Blood & Honey American Ale, along with Long-Range Pils, a new German-style pilsner, the unique Sidewinder Southwest Pale Ale and Full-Tang IPA, a popular seasonal beer that now will be available year-round.

Blood & Honey is an unfiltered golden ale brewed with malted two-row barley and wheat, finished with blood orange zest, Texas honey and a blend of spices. Long-Range Pils is a twist on the traditional German-style lager, staying true to the Pilsner heritage while adding American Mosaic hops. Representing the region, Sidewinder Southwest Pale Ale is brewed using agave nectar, citrus, maize, spices and finished with Citra hops. Lastly, Full-Tang IPA includes four hops and tangerine peel, which provide a fruity and citrus aroma that is hop forward with a subtle sweetness.

Revolver Blood and Honey cans BeerPulse

“While we will continue to offer our flagship Blood & Honey in bottles, cans represent a new milestone in our brewing history,” said co-founder Ron Keisler. “This major step forward allows us to reach new locations and situations across Texas.”

Don’t Give Up On Basketball

by A. J. Hooper
Emahlstadt

too late - lost my confidence in shaka about 7 games ago

Daily Round Up: Tuesday, February 20, 2018

The men’s basketball team plays Kansas State on Wednesday, but please don’t give up on the team just yet.

“It’s a battlefield,” Smart said during his Monday media availability. “We’ve got two weeks left in the regular season and I think the teams that are able find a way to be mentally sharp, and that’s a choice, are going to have the best chance.”

They’re still breathing.

Mark your calendar. The Orange-White game is April 21.

Malik Jefferson said there is no excuse for Texas in 2018.

“They’re going to be good,” Jefferson said when asked where Texas is headed. “I have all of the faith in them to go out and win as many games as they can this year. I told them 12.”

Around the 40 Acres. The women’s basketball team lost to Baylor, the softball team lent 2–2 in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge in Mexico, and the baseball team dropped the last game of the Louisiana-Lafayette series. The good news? The swimming and diving team prepares to take the Big 12 championship again this year.

Former Texas and current A&M assistant football coach Tim Brewster is drinking the SEC kool-aid. Sam Ehlinger had something to say about that.

A Dave Campbell’s Texas football demographic study found that minority head coaches are underrepresented in Texas high school football.

The study examined the 253 teams that make up the University Interscholastic League’s Class 6A, the largest schools in Texas high school football, with enrollments of 2,190 and higher. Of those 253 coaches, 179 are white; 45 are black; 28 are Hispanic; and one is Pacific Islander.

SB Nation looked at 150 years of college football national champions and Texas A&M won in 1939. Really, they did. Sorta.

1939: Texas A&M. Cornell went undefeated and claims it. SRS and Sagarin rank the Big Red No. 1.

You know it is the off-season when the only thing someone is writing about is a Texas-A&M post-breakup tracker.

Has our beloved Drag lost its charm?

Mezco’s ‘Evil Dead II’ Ash Sculpt Is One of the Best I’ve Ever Seen! [Toy Fair]

by Brad Miska

Preternia‘s David (FakeEyes22) is absolutely crushing it from the Toy Fair floor in New York, busting out tons of photos from the show ahead of everyone else.

Next up is the first look at two new figures from Mezco’s One:12 line, which already announced “Michael Myers” from Halloween ahead of the event.

The biggest surprise thus far is Mezco’s One:12 Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn “Ash” doll, which boasts easily one of the best sculpts of Bruce Campbell I’ve ever seen. This is a must own when it arrives this summer.

The curtain was also pulled back on a One:12 “Jason Voorhees” figure from Friday the 13th Part 3. No weapons are on display, but it appears to be an early prototype with the release date pegged for 2019.

About Outer Light Brewing Company: A craft brewery in Groton, CT. Founders Tom Drejer and Matt Ferrucci are inspired by life’s simple pleasures: A fleeting moment in early spring as you sit on your surfboard, waiting for the perfect set to roll in. A perfect summer afternoon, watching the powdery white clouds contrast a bright blue sky. A crisp autumn evening shared with family and friends around a crackling campfire. Or the quiet solitude of a powder run, lips smacking for the hearty stout that lies at the end. Outer Light Brewing Company captures the experience of those moments in a can, glass or growler.

We’re going next level with RESURRECTION 2018. Our latest Small Batch can release features three exclusive Resin formulations—DDH Resin, Anti-Resin, and Pixel Dust—alongside our national trifecta of Resin, Hi-Res and Lo-Res. These three new formulations are only available through our app (starting on February 19th) for pick-up on February 24th at the brewery.

First, we doubled up: DDH Resin takes the hop aroma of Resin to the next level with literally twice the amount of dry-hops. It’s got that classic Resin profile—super dank, with plenty of citrus and loads of pine. Then we flipped the script. Anti-Resin turns the concept on its head, going deep into the hop cone, but only for that juicy oil, not for bitterness. It’s the full on New England version of the beer. We’ve also got a play on Lo-Res to keep you from full pixelation… Pixel Dust, featuring Citra and Mosaic Lupulin Powder, is for sale in super limited quantities.

Resin, Lo-Res, and Hi-Res will be on tap that day for a full on resin overload. Hi-Res is now on shelves, available across the Sixpoint distribution network, and it’s tasting better than ever. Some slight tweaks have taken it over the top: we’ve incorporated the Idaho 7 hop strain, and this year’s release is unfiltered, coming in at 11.1%. It’s pure, raw, hop juice. For Lo-Res, which is hitting shelves soon, we’ve softened up the hop profile to focus more on fruity elements—it’s an absolute slammer in 8-packs.

At the release, we’ll have samples of the new specialties and test batches we’ve been working on, and empanadas from Empanada Papa.

As a reminder, these beers are only available through the Sixpoint App and pickup is at the brewery on 40 Van Dyke St in Brooklyn. The official release party is Saturday, 2/24 from 10am-4pm. If you can’t make it, we have alternate pickup windows (without the party) on 2/26 and 2/27 from 4pm-7pm.

Xbox party chat launches on Android and iOS

by Jon Fingas

It's now easier to keep up with your Xbox gaming pals when you've ventured beyond the living room. After several weeks of public testing, Microsoft has launched party chat in its Xbox apps for Android and iOS. If you use Xbox Live, you can use this to your fellow party members through voice or text wherever you happen to be. That can be helpful if you want to keep up with an in-game raid while you're rushing home, or if you just want to leave a party channel open as a semi-permanent group chat.

Overwatch League signs its first female player

by Jon Fingas

overwatch league has its first sexual misconduct lawsuit in 5... 4... 3... 2...

It's official: Overwatch League has its first female player. The Shanghai Dragons have signed Kim "Geguri" Se-yeon as part of a four-player addition. The South Korean teen rose to prominence thanks to her reputation for playing Zarya (one of Overwatch's "tank" characters) so well that she was pressed into a livestreamed skill display to prove that she wasn't cheating. She was also the first female player to compete in her home country's Apex league, one of the game's foremost competitive events until Overwatch League showed up.

Texas graduate transfer OT target Calvin Anderson will announce decision after final visit

by Wescott Eberts

sure could use this one

The Sooners will get the final opportunity to make an impression.

Coming off of a visit with the Auburn Tigers last weekend, Rice Owls graduate transfer offensive tackle Calvin Anderson will make a final visit with the Oklahoma Sooners before making his decision:

As indicated, the Texas Longhorns are still in the mix — and perhaps still the favorite — as Anderson heads into the final days of his second recruitment. Prior to the Austin Westlake product locking in his last trip, he traveled to the state of Alabama:

Becoming a contender is hardly a surprising development with Auburn — the program has plenty to sell at the moment. The same is true for Oklahoma. And Michigan. And Texas, too.

But the best news here may be the fact that Anderson won’t wait until late March to decide.

So, can new co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Herb Hand make his first huge impact on the Longhorns program by landing Anderson?

Grab ‘Dead Space’ for Free this Month!

by Pat Torfe

in my top 3 all time. played all the way through seven times. LOVE this game.

Visceral Games may be gone, but their work still remains. Of course, they were the folks behind everyone’s “The Thing in space” 3rd-person shooter, Dead Space, which this month is the game that’s been selected for Origin’s “On The House” promotion. In other words: You can get Dead Space for absolutely free on PC.

Of course, you’ll have to sign up with EA’s Origin service (and install the Origin program), but a chance to relive the horror that is Dead Space before EA decided to “change” things for absolutely free? It’s worth it. Will EA revisit the series down the road? Will there be a spiritual successor? I know I’m not the only one who hopes so.

‘Sea of Thieves’ will live or die by how its world grows

by Jamie Rigg
Emahlstadt

tentatively interested in this if we can get a foursome going...

Sea of Thieves is unquestionably an absolute blast to play. It unashamedly embraces every seafarer cliché and trope so you can live out all your pirate fantasies, just without the sunburn, scurvy and missing appendages. You can down grog until you puke, take to the open ocean in search of treasure or conflict and, when you lose a cannon fight, play a mournful tune with your fellow scallywags as you go down with your galleon. But Sea of Thieves isn't supposed to be a game you spend a few fun evenings playing before forgetting it just as quickly. Developer Rare envisions its core audience spending hundreds if not thousands of hours plundering this new world. If that's going to be the case, though, it has to grow to be twice the title it is today.
