Texas OL Denzel Okafor removes name from NCAA transfer portal
Emahlstadtwoooo! i'll take any good news right now.
The decision by Okafor represents a significant recruiting win for the Longhorns coaching staff.
One of the most experienced offensive linemen on the Texas Longhorns roster will remain on the Forty Acres for his final season, as senior Denzel Okafor has removed his name from the NCAA transfer portal, according to Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods.
Horns247 and Inside Texas confirmed the report.
Okafor entered the transfer portal in late March with the intention to become a graduate transfer, but as a projected starter at right tackle in 2020 who has appeared in 39 games and started five in his career, he’s a key piece of Herb Hand’s position group.
So it’s not a surprise that head coach Tom Herman and his staff talked Okafor out of leaving. In that regard, it’s one of the more important recruiting jobs that Texas will undertake this spring with limited experience beyond Okafor and the three returning starters.
It’s a necessary reality in the college football world with the portal, too — expect one to two players per year to enter the portal and then remove their names as a result of the staff recruiting them back into the program.
That scenario already happened once earlier this year with linebacker Juwan Mitchell and it happened last year with quarterback Casey Thompson. Some players will enter the portal and leave the program with little if any effort from the coaching staff to get them to stay, but talented players at need positions will get recruited again by the staff.
While Okafor profiles more as a serviceable player rather than a potential All-Conference performer, the lack of proven depth along the offensive line is a concern that Herman raised in the absence of spring practice, and that increases Okafor’s value.
Quarantine's got Flula Borg so bored he's just doing people's math homework for them

Flula Borg has made a name for himself as a comedian, actor, and DJ, but apparently, if all of those career paths up and disappear one day, he’s more than capable of changing course to become a full-time math teacher. Bored in quarantine, Borg has been showing off his number skills in a new video series where, he says…

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Bug Prices – when and where to find every bug
Hiding on rocks, between flowers and in the trees, is a whole tiny world of bugs to collect in Animal Crossing: New Horizons! Get your net at the ready, here’s when and where you can find each and every bug and arachnid, along with when they unlock and a list of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons bug prices so you know which to prioritise in your inventory. We’ve updated the month-to-month tables to include the prices of every bug too.
Insects, mini-beasts, creepy-crawlies. Whatever you call them, collecting arachnids and bugs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons makes up an important part of your island experience. Whether you’re snagging bugs to sell at Nook’s Cranny or to gift to Blathers at the museum, it’s not always about where you look, but when.
January is a quiet time for bugs in the northern hemisphere. With no new critters arriving in the game this month (and no Bug-Off Events to plan for until the far-off days of June), it’s a good time to catch up with any entries to your Critterpedia that you might have missed out on in previous months.
Highlights this month include the beautiful (and very valuable) emperor butterfly; the dung beetle, which is coaxed out of hiding by the presence of snowballs on your wintry island; and the tarantula, which is all too happy to menace you if you venture onto your island after 7pm.

In a brutal turn of events for those of us who can only play when we get home from work, many of the bugs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons only appear at certain times of day. Even then, some are a lot rarer than others and don’t always spawn.
What’s more, there’s a rotating calendar of scurrying creatures that only appear during specific months of the year.

How to catch bugs in Animal Crossing: New Horizons:
With your net – flimsy or otherwise – equipped, you need to sneak up on bugs to catch them. If you hold down the A button, you will ready your net and walk extra-slowly towards your target. Releasing the A button will drop the net on the unsuspecting bug.
There are several types of insectoid critter to find. They can buzz and fly around in the air, crawl along the floor, appear nestled in flowers, under rocks, on the side of different kinds of trees, fall out of trees when you shake them, on tree stumps when you cut them, and even – in the case of the flea – be seen jumping around on villager’s heads.
To aid in your quest in becoming the ultimate entomologist, we’ve collected a table of when, where, and in which month you can find every single bug in Animal Crossing: New Horizons – as well as the prices you can sell the bugs for at Nook’s Cranny.
Special Villager: Flick
Sometimes on your island, a special visitor – Flick the Chameleon – can show up on your island decked out in his finest goth clobber. If you save your bugs for Flick, he’ll pay a 50% higher price than Timmy and Tommy at Nook’s Cranny.
We’ve focused on where we live in the northern hemisphere, if you live in the southern hemisphere add six months for which bugs are currently infesting your island!
For a visual representation, this data comes from the following video by YouTuber BeardBear courtesy of some hard-core time travel, we’re sure.
Give the video a watch and their channel a click. It also includes every fish, so to avoid spoilers, start at 2:02 and go until 6:41.
The additional price and location data comes from the Animal Crossing wiki community under CC-BY-SA license, which means you’re also free to use and remix the data as you like. It’s not quite complete yet, but we’ll fill in the blanks as we play.
According to the Animal Crossing Official Companion, some creepy crawlies only unlock after you’ve caught a certain amount of other bugs. We’ve updated the main table to reflect this.

Animal Crossing New Horizons: which island layout to choose
Before you jet off to your Animal Crossing: New Horizons deserted island, you’ll be faced with a choice: which island should you choose? Tom Nook has plenty of options for you.
You’ll be pressented with four different choices of island by the Nook travel agency, though there are actually more options than the four you’ll see, as you’ll see in the screenshot below. The islands you’re given to choose between are based on the questions you answer previously and seemingly a random element, but you can ‘reroll’ your island choice by restarting the process if you wish. Here’s all the possible island types we know of, as disseminated by the Animal Crossing community pre-launch.

As you can see, the island layouts vary in a number of ways. It’s important to note that all islands will have the same basic resources – trees, stones, natural flowers and basic starter buildings like Resident Services and the Airport are always present. What differs is placement – these buildings and resources will appear in different places.
Resident Services and the area that will eventually develop into your town square is marked on the map with the Animal Crossing leaf symbol, and the airport will be on the grey, rocky area directly below it, or near enough to it. Rivers will follow different routes and raised areas of land will be in different places, however. For what it’s worth, we picked the island layout in the very bottom right of the image above. That doesn’t mean it’s necessarily the best one for you, however.
Which is the Best Island Layout?
Okay, so, here comes the kicker, the thing that in your heart of hearts you probably know is coming: in Animal Crossing New Horizons there is no ‘best’ island layout that you absolutely must choose. In fact, pretty much every island is equal. This isn’t a cop-out; let us explain.
As we say above, every island layout has the same basic setup. So that means initially you’ll have access to a chunk of the island that features the town square and resident services tent, the airport, a good amount of beach, a bunch of trees and some rocks. This means you’ll have everything you need to gather resources to do some crafting. Pretty quickly you’ll craft a means to cross over the rivers to unlock another chunk of the island which will give you access to more of the same. Then, later, you’ll unlock the means to create a ladder to clamber the inclines.
This is a new sort of ‘gated’ progression to the earliest stages of Animal Crossing New Horizons, but each island layout has access to the same basic things at each stage, meaning – we reiterate – that there is no ‘best’ island style. Don’t worry about things like the location of rocks, as every few days rocks will shatter under your shovel or axe, at which point a new one will spawn in a new location the next day.
Every island type has everything you need at every stage of the game. We recommend you pick a layout you like and not worry too much about min/maxing your island choice.

Things to consider when choosing an island shape
Okay, so – you understand the above disclaimers. But you still aren’t sure what to do with your first island pick. That’s okay! Here’s what to think about first and foremost.
The main thing you should worry about is the location of Resident Services and the airport; make sure the layout has them in a position where you’ll be comfortable with their location in relation to where you might place your tent, which will later become the plot of your house. That’s different for everyone – some might want resident services as close to the middle of the island as possible. Others may want it out of the way. Just be aware that it’ll become the central hub of your island life once it becomes more bustling and busy.
Next, consider the river placement when compared to your long term plans. If you want the vast majority of your island’s buildings on one landmass rather than several, you’ll probably want an island design where the rivers are less intrusive. Others might welcome the ability to break their island up, especially as you can eventually build bridges and reshape rivers – so, again, it’s a personal choice.
The good news is that almost everything that you manually place – houses, shops, items and so on – can be moved later on, albeit as a cost. So if you make a mistake, or your priorities change, you can rejig. Simple. Similarly, you can also change ledges and rivers when you unlock terraforming tools later on. The bad news is you cannot change the name of your island and it is strictly one island per Nintendo Switch, even if more than one player is playing the game. You’ll share that one island – so choose carefully.
Things that won’t be impacted by your island choice, but will differ anyway
There are some elements of your island that are random. If you care about them, you can re-roll – by which we mean, you can start over and delete your save to have another shot at what you want. This will take time, however.
The type of fruit that appears on your island is random, for instance, and there will only ever be one kind at the start. That can be remedied by spending Nook Miles to get a plane ticket to visit a randomly-generated island. Get foreign fruit from there, then plant it locally to implant another type of fruit. This is well worth doing, as selling foreign fruit is an easy way to make a lot of money quickly in New Horizons. You can also co-ordinate with friends and visit their islands to nab some fruit samples to transplant, and swap that way.
Similarly, your island adventure will begin with two animals joining you with tents of their own. Who this is will be random and unique to you, but later in the game you will have an opportunity to recruit other new animals to the island via elements like the campsite and tapping amiibo.

[Review] Glenn Danzig’s ‘Verotika’ is the Horror Equivalent of ‘The Room’
Emahlstadti have to see this
The Misfits are a great band. Danzig is a great band. Glenn Danzig is a huge musical talent and an icon in the punk and metal scenes. Based on his directorial debut Verotika, I’m not so sure those talents translate to filmmaking.
It’s fitting that the record label he started way back in the day was called Plan 9 records, because there are a number of moments in Verotika that recall the filmmaking style of Plan 9 from Outer Space director Ed Wood. I’m not sure the tribute is intentional.
Verotika, which just made its world premiere at the opening night of Chicago’s Cinepocalypse festival, is a horror anthology with its origins in the pages of Danzig’s own Verotik comic book. “Hosted” by a woman named Morella (Kayden Kross), there are three stories contained within the film, which Danzig described as his tribute to anthologies he loves like Trilogy of Terror and Mario Bava’s Black Sabbath. The first segment, set in Paris (meaning every actor speaks in totally different but equally cartoonish French accent), tells the story of a woman with eyeballs for nipples who conjures a giant, murderous albino man-spider every time she falls asleep. In the second story, a disfigured dancer collects other women’s faces. The third and final segment is a take on the Elizabeth Bathory legend, about a countess who bathes in the blood of virgins in order to remain youthful.
The stories themselves are not the problem in Verotika, though calling them “stories” seems a bit generous. Each one presents a premise and then simply repeats that idea four or five times before coming to a conclusion. The ideas presented within the segments are fine for a horror anthology: weird and dark and gory and right out of a horror comic book. It’s the execution that dooms Verotika, from its interminable editing to its uneven performances to its multiple instances of unintentional laughter – to the opening night Cinepocalypse crowd, the movie played like a comedy (and not on purpose). Actors are left stranded, vamping endlessly when the scene should be cutting away. The special effects work well at times and other times betray the movie’s super low-budget roots in a way that stops the film cold.
Making any movie is hard, and I can see what Danzig is going for with Verotika. There’s a definite European flair to the proceedings, which is deliberate, from the Fulci-inspired eye gouge that opens the film to the Bava-inspired lighting and set design of the third story. There is the occasional striking visual (Danzig worked as his own DP) and the score is effective (Danzig worked as his own composer), but these brief glimpses into what the movie could have been aren’t enough to erase what the movie actually is. It’s a catastrophe.
On the bright side, the audience reaction at Cinepocalypse suggests that Verotika has a future as a midnight movie in the same vein as The Room. There’s plenty of entertainment and plenty of laughs to be had, even if I’m not sure it’s what director Danzig originally intended. Creating a new horror cult favorite might just be the most punk rock thing he could have done.
Plus, maybe now people will start being kinder to the movies of Rob Zombie…

Jason Briggs’ Bizarre Eroticism in Surrealist Porcelain Objects
Jason Briggs’ work is reminiscent of a William Borough’s novel. His figurative and surrealist objects elicit familiarity, intrigue and perhaps a smidgen of WTF. With their strong eroticism, the objects suggestively invite a primal response from viewers to touch the biological and flesh-like forms.
The best Star Trek: Picard yet finds someplace like home
Emahlstadtman, why does jean-luc look, like, the exact same age and commander riker looks like he only has 2 months to live.

I’ve been waiting for this one. I’d guess most of Picard’s audience was. When we started getting preview material for the series, there were photos of Picard reconnecting with his former Number One—images of Riker, looking older but cheerful, living the good life. For all that the show has nodded towards events in the…

HQ Trivia game abruptly shuts down after 14 'seasons'
Emahlstadtha! i forgot about this shit. it was fun for week or two.
HQ Trivia, which was once a popular mobile game where you can earn a few dollars, is no more. CNN has obtained an internal memo from CEO and co-founder Rus Yusupov, terminating 25 full-time employees and all contractors because the company has to cease operations immediately. Apparently, HQ Trivia hired a banker to find additional investors and received an offer to be acquired by an "established business." For "reasons [the company] is still investigating," though, the acquisition fell through. And since its current investors are no longer willing to fund the company, it has to shut down.

also, what the fuck was up with the "real" ghostbusters? was it like a knockoff and they didn't want to pay for likenesses of the characters and then named it "real" to try and counteract the obvious fact that it was a knockoff? so weird.
