2015 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro’s dGPU (R9 M370X) Is Cape Verde
Szdani88komoly fejlesztés ez az amdtől XD mi akarna ez lenni... a GK107 helyére betesz egy GCN 1.0-s fost
Earlier this week Apple announced their 2015 15” Retina MacBook Pro. Though Apple didn’t make any CPU changes, they did make some GPU changes on the high-end model, swapping out NVIDIA’s GeForce GT 750M for AMD’s Radeon R9 M370X. Since the M370X was not a published part number in AMD’s recently-announced 2015 Radeon M300 series refresh lineup, there have been some questions over just what M370X really is.
At the time of the rMBP’s launch, we suspected that it was an AMD Cape Verde GPU, based on the fact that this GPU is also in the M375, which is the next part above M370X. With the new laptop shipping immediately, M370X models have already begun arriving in buyers’ hands, finally giving us a chance to confirm the GPU inside.

Thanks to Reddit user ootan, who posted a screenshot of the rMBP’s System Profiler, we can now confirm that the GPU in the rMBP is in fact AMD’s Cape Verde GPU. AMD has previously used the 6821 device ID on other mobile Cape Verde parts, so 6821 is already a known quantity.

As for Cape Verde itself, as our regular readers may already know, it’s one of AMD’s first-generation GCN 1.0 GPUs, launched back in 2012. Compared to the GK107 GPU found in the GT 750M, it is a larger, more powerful (and at least in the desktop, more power-hungry) GPU, designed for more powerful devices than GK107 was. As for why Apple opted to switch now and to this GPU, we’ll leave that to Apple, AMD, and NVIDIA, though it’s by no means surprising that after having run GK107 for a couple of years, they would want to upgrade to a more powerful GPU.
Meanwhile, though we don’t have M370X on-hand at the moment, at least in the desktop, where GPU performance is unrestricted by thermals, Cape Verde fares very well. The rMBP on the other hand does have thermal constraints to deal with, so performance won’t be the same, but I expect it to fare reasonably well as well. Though at the same time I’m also curious if the use of a higher performance part has impacted the rMBP’s battery life when the dGPU is active; AMD and NVIDIA both do heavy binning, so a simple extrapolation won’t work here.
Update: And no sooner do I post this then someone sends me a screenshot of GPU-Z from a 15" rMBP running Boot Camp.
GPU-Z, for those unfamiliar with it, uses register poking to identify GPUs, so if the device ID wasn't enough, this settles it. This also confirms the clockspeeds - 800MHz core, 4.5GHz VRAM - and that the M370X is using GDDR5, unlike it's M375 counterpart. Thank you DMDrew812.
A szeparálás természetesen teljesen független a spam szűréstől.
A tartalom mellett a külső is megújult, bár ezen a téren igazából túl sok izgalom nem éri a felhasználót, kivéve persze azokat, akik a témázhatóságra gerjednek, számukra ugyanis 13 új megjelenési sablon áll rendelkezésre. A megújult Outlook.com elérhetősége mától indul, ám ahogy az lenni szokott, több lépcsőben kerül bevezetésre, a Microsoft pedig folyamatosan várja a visszajelzéseket.

Analysts claim AMD will be bankrupt by 2020
Intel is winning
A team of analysts have been looking at numbers and consulted their tarot cards and concluded that AMD will be bankrupt by 2020.
Kerrisdale Capital Investment has knocked out a report which makes grim reading for AMD.
The report said that after three years of awful performance AMD is transitioning away from PC to "growth markets", aggressively marketing its reorganisation narrative to justify a disproportionate valuation.
AMD is a typical example of a legacy company, which still benefits from its past reputation as a technological leader to fuel misconceptions about its survival prospects.
"Although it plays a systemically crucial role to avoid the complete monopoly of Intel Corporation in certain markets, it is not a sufficient argument to out rule the option of bankruptcy," the report said.
Many investors are buying into the turnaround story advanced by its recently appointed CEO, Lisa Su, and we do not dispute that AMD still retains some healthy business units.
But there report concludes that AMD, which once reached a valuation of $6.8bn in 2010, is destined to go bankrupt by 2020.
It notes that the ongoing corporate refresh cycle has boosted many companies' revenues but not really AMD's, as it is too dependent on the volatile consumer PC segment.
Since AMD spun off its manufacturing business into GlobalFoundries in 2009 and as
GlobalFoundries expands its client base, AMD is losing its ability to enjoy any preferential treatment with only two pure, foundry-model players remaining
The report said that AMD is engaged in a relentless diversification drive, pursuing "growth markets" without being able to create a stronghold in a specific one – apart from the semi-custom business in gaming.
Yet AMD's ability to capitalize it is grossly overestimated. Last quarter AMD hinted at virtual reality as a potential growth channel yet commercial applications of this technology are still years away from materializing. Even if it were, it is very unlikely that this could constitute a promising outlet for its GPU and CPU based semicustom business, the report said.
"We agree that these may be potential future growth avenues but these are extremely long shots, more suitable for companies with deep pockets, such Samsung Intel - certainly not for an ailing chipmaker. The semi-custom business is more promising but even here, AMD chose the wrong path," the report said.

Oppo R7 and R7 Plus officially announced
As expected, Oppo has just unveiled the highly anticipated pair of high end smartphones, the R7 and the R7 Plus. At a dedicated event held in Beijing, the company highlighted its 10-year history and proceeded to announce the flagship duo. Both phones were regular visitors to the rumor mill and making them official brought little changes. The smaller one comes with a 5-inch AMOLED display of 1080p resolution behind 2.5D glass. The R7 Plus sports a 6-inch screen of the same resolution, which stretches edge to edge for that striking futuristic look. Oppo R7 Computing power comes courtesy of a Qualcomm 615 chipset with a 64-bit octa-core processor and 3GB RAM. Oppo claims that anything below that amount is limiting nowadays. Built-in storage is 16GB on the R7 and 32GB on the Plus, and a microSD slot is available if you are willing to live without the second SIM slot. Both the R7 and R7 Plus come with a 13MP main camera behind an f/2.2 lens. Phase detection autofocus and a single-LED flash complete the picture on the R7, while the R7 Plus adds laser autofocus and a dual-LED flash. Additionally, the sensor inside the R7 Plus is of the RGBW variety, and the company claims 78% less noise and 32% better light gathering capability compared to conventional designs. The R7 Plus packs a whopping 4,100mAh battery, while the smaller model has a 2,320mAh cell and both devices support VOOC charging. A feature limited to the Plus is the fingerprint sensor on the back. Oppo R7 Plus The R7 measures 143 x 71 x 6.3mm and weighs 147g, while the Plus version is 158 x 82 x 7.75mm and tips the scales at 203g. You may find the difference in dimensions non-proportional to the difference in screen size, and that's because Oppo has opted for onscreen buttons on the R7 Plus, shaving off millimeters off the bottom bezel. Both smartphones boot the company's newly announced ColorOS v2.1, built on top of Android Lollipop 5.1. There's Cat. 4 LTE for download speeds up to 150Mbps and dual SIM capability. The Oppo R7 is priced at CNY 2,499 (~$400 by today's rates) and the Oppo R7 Plus commands a CNY 500 premium for a total of $480. Both smartphones will be available for purchase in China starting tomorrow on JD.com, while an international launch is set for...
AMD Fiji aims at $849 retail price
4GB first, 8GB to follow
Our well informed sources are telling us that Fiji is not going to be the cheapest chip on the market.
The Fiji XT card should be performing well but the original plan to introduce the card at $799 is not happening, our sources tell us. Such a price had a logic -- the Fiji XT card is faster than Geforce GTX 980 that sells between $550 to $600 and Fiji XT performance is closer to the $999 priced Geforce Titan X. Most Titan cards including a few from Asus and EVGA start at $1049, even more than the suggested retail price of $999. This means $849 is a reasonable price for what you get. .
If you look at all the facts, it turns out that Fiji might be reasonably priced when compared with Titan X, but Nvidia will launch Geforce GTX 980 TI close to the Fiji launch, just to mess with AMD's plan and put some pressure on the company.
We hear Fiji XT will win some and lose some benchmarks to Titan.
It looks like the 4GB card will be the first into the shops. The 8GB card has two GPUs and it won't launch at the same time. The Fiji XT 4GB will launch by middle of June, around E3.
Fiji XT is the first card that is using High Bandwidth Memory HBM with stacked 2.5D interposer technology and AMD can't make that many. It is always hard to get a good yield from high performance graphics, especially when the chip is supposed to come on the interposer board sitting next to the memory chips.
Fiji XT is a decent successor of the Radeon 290X Hawaii legacy and AMD lovers will be happy aboutowning one, as long as they manage to buy one.
