POTD: Laugo Arms Alien Remus Gemini Akimbo

by Eric B

Some firearms stand out for performance, others for engineering. Then there are those that do both in a way you didn’t see coming. At EnforceTac 2026, Laugo Arms showcased the Alien Remus Gemini Limited Edition, a matched set built around the compact Alien Remus platform.

The concept is straightforward but rare in execution: two pistols, one configured for right-handed use and the other fully mirrored for left-handed operation, including controls and ejection.

These aren’t just cosmetically reversed; they are purpose-built counterparts.

A question for TFB’s left-handed shooters: Does a true mirrored pistol make a difference?

What makes the setup possible is the Alien system’s fixed, non-reciprocating top rail. Using a dedicated mounting solution, both pistols can be coupled side-by-side with a shared optic, creating a synchronized dual configuration without slide interference. Just don’t ask me how to zero the optic.

I really like the Alien pistols, but I think one is enough for me.

There’s a pretty “different” video to watch here:

Is this the most unconventional handgun setup you’ve seen?

iOS 17.0.3 fixes security breach that had been actively exploited

by Filipe Espósito

Apple on Wednesday released iOS 17.0.3 for iPhone users. Although the update doesn’t bring any new features, it fixes a bug that had been causing some iPhone models (especially the iPhone 15 Pro) to overheat more than usual. However, iOS 17.0.3 also comes with two important security fixes, including a fix for a breach that had been actively exploited.

Text description provided by the architects. The former Topázio’s Factory site results from the relocation of the previous Emídio Navarro Avenue unit, in the Coimbra city center, to Pedrulha’s Industrial Area in the late 1950’s.

The strong presence of this building in the former National Road 1, currently known as Rua Manuel Madeira, can be seen, mainly, on its elevation extended along the way, with a modern language where the horizontality and the repetitive rhythm, given by the openings and friezes, are outstanding. On the other hand, the vertical gestures of the tower used to protect the Silos, attached to the transparent.
Manufacturing Room, and of the limestone wall where the institutional masts are anchored, appear in clear contrast on both east and west ends of the elevation, respectively.

From the 1960’s onwards, these buildings have suffered successive extensions which altered significantly the original architectural composition. These extensions, as well as the several arbitrary demolitions, made the plot and some of the original project´s boundaries, practically unrecognizable.

The programmatic distribution required for the Headquarters and Logistic Centre of the Plural Pharmacy Cooperative’s new facilities led to various interventions in the remaining complex: the principles of preservation and valuing applied in the rehabilitation of the old Tower of the Silos and the Manufacturing Room were also considered for the existing public façade which determined the height, the finishes and the colours of the new interventions; the new construction, attached to the rehabilitated main façade, materializes in a markedly contemporary language that, rather than creating safety distances, attempts to assume the possible compromise on a purposely dubious contagion between two lexicons: yesterday and today.

by Carlos Martins

by Carlos Martins

Top 10 Apps for Architects

by James Taylor-Foster

Following our readers poll last year, here’s an updated list of what we think are the best ten apps for architects. From condensed versions of large scale programmes architects and designers use every day, to blank canvases to scratch ideas down onto, you might just find an app that could improve the way you work.

#10 Photosynth (iOS/Windows)

Click here to view the embedded video.

If you’ve ever been on a site, or in an interesting location, and are bored of flat panoramas then this app holds the answer. It’s user friendly and, once you’ve stood in one position and circled for a while, it stitches a collection of photos together and gives you a great 360degree panorama.

#9 AutoCAD 360, formerly AutoCAD WS (iOS/Android)

Click here to view the embedded video.

Get all your CAD plans on a mobile device. It’s simple and easy to use. They do require a ‘Pro’ subscription for some features.

#8 iRhino 3D (iOS)

Using this app you can view any Rhine 3DM file on your mobile device. It’s a great way of showcasing your models.

#7 Autodesk Formit (iOS/Android)

Click here to view the embedded video.

As a subsidiary of Autodesk Revit, this app allows you to create and alter BIM models on mobile devices.

#6 Morpholio / Morpholio Trace (iOS)

Click here to view the embedded video.

The Morpholio Project is really interesting and offers an insight into where skilled app designers can go with a good idea. Trace is an architect’s best friend and they offer an app that does just that – you can read an ArchDaily review of it here.

#5 Adobe Ideas (iOS)

This app gives a few tools to jot down ideas quickly and efficiently. It doesn’t provide as many export options as our #4, but does work well on both iPhone and iPad.

#4 Sketchbook (iOS)

Click here to view the embedded video.

This app (designed by Autodesk) offers you sketching freedom coupled with useful ways of exporting drawings on different canvas sizes and at different resolutions. It might feel as user friendly as our #1 app choice, but it’s certainly useful.

#3 Graphisoft BIMx (iOS)

Click here to view the embedded video.

Introducing Hyper-models – Graphisoft’s term for describing BIM on mobile devices – has the potential to make BIM even more popular. As an app that can be used by every member of a project’s design and construction teams, it’s worth checking out.

#2 MagicPlan (iOS/Android)

Click here to view the embedded video.

MagicPlan is, well, magic. It takes advantage of the devices camera and augmented reality to create floor plans of rooms. All you have to do is stand and point your device and it does the rest of the work. You can then export these drawings as a PDF, JPG, or DXF. It takes a bit of getting used to at first but, once mastered, is quite accurate.

#1 Paper (iOS)

Click here to view the embedded video.

With five tools and a blank canvas, coupled with as many virtual sketchbooks as you want, Paper is one of the most loved mobile sketching apps. Having won Apple’s App of the Year and been given the 2012 Apple Design Award, the app has also been extensively reviewed by The Verge. It’s fast, easy, and responsive.
