Trailer For ‘American Made’ Teases A Truly Insane True Story

by Kaitlyn Booth

American Made

Truth is often stranger than fiction, and that appears to be the line that American Made is walking. The trailer teases a story where “some of this shit really happened.” It follows Barry Seal, a fired TWA pilot who becomes a drug smuggler for the CIA and the DEA. Director Doug Liman described the movie back in 2015 and why it appealed to him as a filmmaker:

“I love stories of improbable heroes working against the system, and Barry Seal took the government, and our country, for an unbelievable ride. Interpreting his story has the makings for an entertaining film that is equal parts satire, suspense and comedy—and always surprising.”

The movie, which has seen a title change from Mena, has been bouncing around Hollywood since 2014, where it ended up on The Black List. The movie eventually fell into Liman and star Tom Cruise’s hands in 2015. The trailer, which was supposed to be released with Cruise’s The Mummy this weekend, leaked early and Universal Pictures put up a high-quality version.

Summary: A pilot lands work for the CIA and as a drug runner in the south during the 1980s.

American Made, directed by Doug Liman, stars Tom Cruise, Caleb Landry Jones, Domhnall Gleeson, Jesse Plemons, and Sarah Wright. It will be released on September 29th.

‘Logan Lucky’ Trailer: Steven Soderbergh’s Return to Filmmaking Looks Wonderful

by Jack Giroux

Logan Lucky trailer

Steven Soderbergh‘s “anti-glam Ocean’s 11” looks, to put it simply, like a blast. Based on the first footage from Logan Lucky, which arrived over the weekend, Daniel Craig‘s performance alone as Joe Bang may be worth the price of admission. We haven’t seen Craig quite like this before, and the same can be said for the rest of the stellar cast in Soderbergh’s blessed return to filmmaking.

Below, watch the Logan Lucky trailer.

Before the biggest NASCAR race of the year, the Coca-Cola 600, the Logan family – Jimmy (Channing Tatum), Clyde (Adam Driver) and Mellie Logan (Riley Keough) – plan on pulling off a heist at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. With the help of Joe Bang, an in-car-cer-ated explosives expert, luck may go their way. Logan Lucky, which is written by Rebecca Blunt, co-stars Katherine Waterston, Dwight Yoakam, Seth MacFarlane, Macon Blair, Hilary Swank, Sebastian Stan, and Katie Holmes.

After watching this trailer, it’s no wonder Soderbergh couldn’t (and didn’t) want to imagine anyone else directing this story. With quite a set of characters and the distinct backdrop for a heist movie, Logan Lucky sounds and looks like the kind of entertainment we want to see in the summertime. The trailer does call to mind the Ocean’s trilogy and The Informant, but Logan Lucky comes across as more of a distant cousin to those movies. A smidge familiar, but something different from Soderbergh, a director whose range never ceases to impress.

He’s called his new comedy a stripped down and scrappy version of an Ocean‘s movie:

On the most obvious level, it’s the complete inversion of an Ocean’s movie. It’s an anti-glam version of an Ocean’s movie. Nobody dresses nice. Nobody has nice stuff. They have no money. They have no technology. It’s all rubber band technology, and that’s what I thought was fun about it. It seemed familiar to me, but different enough. The landscape, the characters, and the canvass were the complete opposite of an Ocean’s film. What was weird is that I was working as a producer on Ocean’s Eight while we were shooting Logan, and it was kind of head-spinning. That’s like a proper Ocean’s film. This is a version of an Ocean’s movie that’s up on cement blocks in your front yard.

When Soderbergh is directing fun material, we usually end up with some wonderfully playful spectacle. Whether we’re talking Out of Sight, the Ocean’s 11 movies, The Informant, or Haywire, Soderbergh knows how to provide a great time in the theater. Logan Lucky doesn’t look like an exception.

Doesn’t it feel nice to have a new Soderbergh film to look forward to again?

Logan Lucky opens in theaters August 18.

VOTD: Harvard Honors John Williams with an A Cappella Medley of ‘Star Wars’, ‘Indiana Jones’ & More

by Ethan Anderton

John Williams a cappella tribute

It’s graduation season, and though we’ve already seen one spectacular musical performance as part of Will Ferrell’s outstanding commencement speech for this year’s graduates at the University of Southern California, we have a new favorite moment from this year’s round of college grads.

Over at Harvard University, John Williams was given an honorary doctorate in music for his lifelong work as a composer of motion picture scores. To honor the man who has brought us countless memorable themes, Harvard’s a cappella group Din and Tonics gave him a musical tribute featuring a medley of some of his most famous pieces, including the themes for Star Wars, Indiana Jones, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, Jaws and more.

Watch the John Williams a cappella tribute after the jump.

Even if you’re sick of a cappella singing thanks to Glee, this is still a fantastic rendition of John Williams tunes by quite the professional singing group, and the composer himself enjoys the hell out of it, grinning ear-to-ear throughout the entire performance. Who can blame him when they do cool little things like include a cappella crack of a whip during the Indiana Jones section and even some parseltongue and more dialogue being spoken during the Harry Potter theme.

For those interested, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was also honored at Harvard by finally being given a degree from the school after dropping out 12 years ago to found the website the not only wastes time out of our day, but served as the subject of David Fincher’s outstanding film The Social Network.

‘Get Shorty’ Trailer: Chris O’Dowd Goes to Hollywood

by Jack Giroux
Corey

Eh I don't really like this guy.

Get Shorty trailer

We already have one great Get Shorty adaptation. Barry Sonnenfeld‘s 1995 film is a hugely faithful adaptation, one that captures not only the spirit of the book but doesn’t make many departures from Elmore Leonard‘s novel. The Epix series, on the other hand, is taking the story of a criminal breaking into the movie business in a different direction.

Below, watch the Get Shorty trailer.

Chris O’Dowd (The IT Crowd) isn’t playing Leonard’s famous ultra-cool hero, Chili Palmer, but instead Miles Daly, a hitman from Nevada, not Florida. There’s also no Harry Simms in Davey Holmes’ (Shameless) Epix series, either, although it does have another producer of garbage movies nobody sees named Rick Moreweather (Ray Romano), whose spiky hair calls to mind Brian Grazer. Based on the Get Shorty trailer, Holmes and Epix have taken the bones of Leonard’s story and placed them into a new body, with a slightly more down and dirty (and maybe broader) approach.

It’s probably for the best they decided not to tell another story about Chili Palmer, because John Travolta nailed the character. Few actors can play it that cool. By following a new character, Miles, the show probably has a greater chance at standing on its own, which doesn’t look like a problem for the series.

When we spoke with Epix’s executive vice president of original programming Jocelyn Diaz, she dropped a Fargo comparison:

It’s like Fargo and what they did with the television series, which is to take the tone of the original book, but it’s wholly new characters. So it’s entirely new. It’s a different character. His name is Miles and it is fantastic. The script is so strong. It’s very much the tone of Elmore Leonard, the world of this hitman who goes to Hollywood. There’s that template but it’s totally different. So it’s inspired by the book but it’s not exactly the book.

The tone seems a little different – again, broader – than Elmore Leonard’s book, but that’s okay, as long as it’s funny. There are a few clever moments in the trailer. With O’Dowd front and center, it’s hard to imagine the Get Shorty series at least not having any good laughs.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Based on Elmore Leonard’s 1990 New York Times bestselling novel, GET SHORTY is the story of Miles Daly, played by Chris O’Dowd, who works as muscle for a murderous crime ring in Nevada and attempts to change professions and become a movie producer, laundering money through a Hollywood film. Three-time Emmy award winner Ray Romano stars as Rick, a washed-up producer of low-quality films who becomes Miles’ partner and guide through the maze of Hollywood.

Get Shorty premieres on August 13 on Epix.

‘The King of Kong’ Musical in the Works

by Jack Giroux

the king of kong musical

We’re still waiting on New Line’s remake of The King of Kong: A Fistful of QuartersSeth Gordon‘s excellent 2007 doc about Steve Wiebe and Billy Mitchell competing over the world record for Donkey Kong. Gordon, who went on to direct Horrible Bosses and Baywatch, has been wanting to dramatize their rivalry in a feature film for years now – but that’ll have to wait until he’s done adapting the doc for the stage.

Below, learn more about the King of Kong musical.

The musical will even feature a song, “Museum of Your Heart,” from Walter Day, the owner of the Twin Galaxies arcade who left behind scorekeeping to pursue music. There are 15 or so other songs in musical. While promoting Baywatch, Gordon told IGN there are scripts for the King of Kong remake, but his focus is on the musical at the moment:

Yeah, some scripts have been written – we’re actually working on a musical right now, which is pretty great. I think it lends itself to that – there’s such a melodrama, and so many of the characters are actually musicians, and the music of the games, too, is a thing.

There was once an unauthorized King of Kong musical performed at the UCB Theater in Hollywood. They performed an 8-bit musical version of Wiebe and Mitchell’s battle. Funnily enough, their reasoning for why it was a good idea could apply to the musical Gordon is developing: “They managed to find a story of Shakespearean proportions with a good guy and a really bad guy, with minions that are trying to thwart the good guy.” As Gordon said, there’s good melodrama in the story of King of Kong.

As for the movie, Gordon may want to tell the story from Billy Mitchell’s point-of-view:

If we were going to do the movie, I’d be open to it, but I always thought it’d be cool to flip the point of view and do it from Billy’s perspective, sort of see the whole thing from his point of view. Because at least he believed in his version, very much, so try to see what that’d be like.

Mitchell was clearly the antagonist of the King of Kong, a depiction he wasn’t thrilled about. He never actually saw the movie, he said, but knew it portrayed him in an unflattering light. Showing the story from his side, in maybe a mockumentary style, could help make the movie more than just a retelling of a great story.

There Might Never Be Another Season of ‘Fargo’

by Jack Giroux
Corey

Shame, but I always rather a show goes one season too soon than one season too late.

Fargo season 4

Noah Hawley doesn’t know if he’ll make another season of Fargo. He’s said so himself in the past. When he’s working on a season of the acclaimed FX series, he’s not thinking about the future. Hawley is telling one story at a time. If he has another story to tell, he’ll tell it, but he’s in no hurry.

To FX’s credit, they’re not already pushing for more. Below, FX Chief John Landgraf comments on whether we’ll see Fargo season 4 happen or not.

We’re midway through another excellent season of Fargo. With only three seasons so far, the show’s creator has taken his time by not cranking out a season every year. FX chief John Landgraf has no interest in doing that either, from the sound of it. Unless Hawley wants to go back to Minnesota, season three could be the end of Fargo, which is what John Landgraf told The Hollywood Reporter:

There may never be another Fargo. Unless [creator Noah Hawley] has an idea for Fargo that he thinks he can make as good as the prior three. I think once people get to the end of this [season] they will find that it is thematically different. It’s really about the moment we live in now.

Fargo fans probably would rather never see another season of Fargo instead of a rushed one. What’s comforting is Hawley is an idea man, someone who can make completely different shows like Fargo and Legion, write novels, and maybe even go from directing television to film. You’d imagine someone with his imagination would think of another Fargo story to tell, but we’ll have to wait and see if he does. As he said, he’s okay waiting four years to return to the show if the inspiration strikes, but there is, as Landgraf pointed out, the possibility of that not happening.

Here’s the synopsis for Season 3 of Fargo:

Set in 2010, the third season centers on “Emmit” and his slightly younger brother “Ray Stussy” (both played by Ewan McGregor). Emmit, the Parking Lot King of Minnesota, sees himself as an American success story, whereas Ray is more of a cautionary tale. Forever living in his more successful brother’s shadow, Ray is a balding and pot-bellied parole officer with a huge chip on his shoulder about the hand he’s been dealt – and he blames his brother. Their sibling rivalry follows a twisted path that begins with petty theft but soon leads to murder, mobsters and cut-throat competitive bridge. Carrie Coon stars as “Gloria Burgle,” the steady chief of the local police department. A newly divorced mother, Gloria is trying to understand the new world around her, where people connect more intimately with their phones than with the people around them. Mary Elizabeth Winstead stars as Ray’s girlfriend, “Nikki Swango,” a crafty and alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge. David Thewlis stars as “V.M. Vargas,” a mysterious loner and true capitalist whose bosses plan to partner with Emmit, whether “The Parking Lot King” likes it or not.

Fargo airs Wednesday night on FX.

British Snack Company Walkers Apologizes After Featuring Pro Wrestling Murderer Chris Benoit In Crisps Ad

by Jude Terror

benoit

British snack company Walkers found themselves in an embarrassing situation this week thanks to a promotion where they encouraged fans to send in selfies to win tickets to a soccer game. Trusting the internet was their first mistake, as they were of course sent photos of all manner of terrible people, but their next mistake was the worst of all, because, according to a report from 411 Wrestling, the company failed to recognize a photo of deceased pro wrestler Chris Benoit, who murdered his wife and child before committing suicide in 2007, and used the photo in a promotional video:

Walkers promptly learned their lesson, canceling the promotion entirely, and apologized for using Benoit’s face in the video:

Benoit, who suffered from brain damage due to multiple concussions sustained during his pro wrestling career, was an active WWE performer at the time of the murders. While it was a major news story that received a lot of coverage at the time, WWE has never mentioned Benoit since or shown him on their televised programming (though his matches are still viewable on the WWE Network), so it’s entirely plausible that someone who isn’t familiar with pro wrestling wouldn’t recognize Benoit on site. And Walkers isn’t the only one to make this mistake recently. A comedy bit on the Ellen Degeneres Show also recently used a photo of Chris Benoit by accident.

Welcome To The Baseball Hall Of Fame, Homer Simpson! (Yes Really)

by Jeremy Konrad

Homer Simpson Baseball Hall of Fame

Yes, legendary slugger and Isotopes mascot Homer Simpson will be taking his rightful place today among the immortal. The baseball Hall of Fame is inducting its newest class this weekend, with Jeff Bagwell, Tim Rice (finally), and Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez joining the hallowed Hall. But, stealing the spotlight will be the Simpsons patriarch. A former mascot for the Springfield Isotopes, “Dancing” Homer delighted fans and enjoyed a long run until leaving for the bright lights of Capitol City, where he burned out in spectacular fashion. Never losing his love of the game, he would “lead” the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant softball team to the 1992 championship, along with MLB players Roger Clemens, Wade Boggs, Ken Griffey, Jr., Steve Sax, Ozzie Smith, José Canseco, Don Mattingly, Darryl Strawberry and Mike Scioscia. It remains the only title of their (short) history.

Homer Simpson Springfield Isotopes

The Hall is not ACTUALLY inducting him, but instead will have an exhibit honoring the Season 3 episode  Homer at the Bat of The Simpsons. The episode title is a reference to the famous poem “Casey at the Bat”, and the episode was written by John Swartzwelder. It remains a fan-favorite episode for both fans of the show and baseball enthusiasts.Part of the exhibit will include a signed script from the episode and a VHS copy. During Induction Weekend, there will be a roundtable discussion with Hall of Famers Wade Boggs and Ozzie Smith, and who knows, maybe Homer will stride up to the dish in the Hall of Fame Classic that is played every year.

Five Teasers For Netflix’s “Friends From College”

by Kaitlyn Booth
Corey

This looks great.

FRIENDS FROM COLLEGE

Time for some good adult comedy to show up on Netflix. We learned about the series Friends From College a few months ago but Netflix has been releasing a set of teasers over the course of the last week or so. It’s brought us by the same creative team that brought us Neighbors, Neighbors: Sorority Rising, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Get Him to the Greek.

Summary: The show centers on a group of friends who went to Harvard together and are now facing down their forties and experiencing a range of success, or lack thereof, both professionally and domestically. With interwoven and oftentimes complicated relationships with one another, the series is a comedic exploration of old friendships, former romantic entanglements and balancing adult life with nostalgia for the past.

Friends From College has a creative team of Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco and stars Keegan-Michael Key, Cobie Smulders, Annie Parisse, Nat Faxon, Fred Savage, and Jae Suh Park. It will stream to Netflix on July 14th.

Trailer For Netflix Original “Shimmer Lake” Tells A Crime In Reverse

by Kaitlyn Booth
Corey

Interesting. Looks like Fargo.

Shimmer Lake

On a purely personal level I love dark comedies. They are also one of the harder genres to pull off because the writer, actors, and filmmakers need to walk a very thin line of keeping things funny while maintaining the tone. When they work, though, they work like gangbusters and trailer for the upcoming Netflix original movie Shimmer Lake looks promising on that front. To find the humor and absurdity of a crime and the lengths people must go to solve it will this an interesting project if nothing else.

Summary: Unfolding in reverse time, this darkly comic crime thriller follows a local sheriff hunting three bank robbery suspects, one of whom is his brother.

Shimmer Lake is directed and written by Oren Uziel and stars Wyatt Russell, Rainn Wilson, Benjamin Walker, Adam Pally, and John Michael Higgins. It will stream to Netflix on June 9, 2017.

‘Castlevania’ Teaser: Netflix Taps into Nintendo Nostalgia for Animated Series

by Hoai-Tran Bui

castlevania teaser trailer

Following the success of ’80s-nostalgia genre hit Stranger Things and the announcement of a prequel to Jim Henson’s ’80s magnum opus Dark Crystal, Netflix continues to dig deep into our childhoods.

The streaming service has upped its nostalgia game, brushing off an old Nintendo cartridge (literally!) in the first teaser for its animated adaptation of the dark fantasy video game series, Castlevania.

Based on the Konami video game released in 1986 (many sequels would follow), the Castlevania TV series gives a slick, anime-style update to the popular pixelated game, though you wouldn’t know it until nearly a minute into the teaser.

For a good 40 seconds of the 1:26 minute trailer, we’re treated to an unknown hand brushing off an old Castlevania Nintendo cartridge. The unseen player is given the option of some pixelated versions of Kevin Spacey’s Frank Underwood from House of Cards, Taylor Schilling’s Piper from Orange is the New Black, with — since this is an adaptation of an ’80s game — your requisite Stranger Things nod, before settling on the Castlevania. Someone must have been very proud of their pixel rendering of Spacey, because the teaser lingered on his likeness so long I thought for a moment that Castlevania would star Kevin Spacey. Alas, that was not meant to be.

The teaser then flashes to a grim animated landscape filled with impaled skeletons and dusty castles as a voice with a thick accent narrates, “There is a darkness upon this land. A savior is needed.”

The teaser descends into gore and bloodshed before the hero is presented as “The man who will kill Dracula.”

See the official synopsis below:

Inspired by the classic video game series, Castlevania is a dark medieval fantasy following the last surviving member of the disgraced Belmont clan, trying to save Eastern Europe from extinction at the hand of Vlad Dracula Tepe himself. The animated series written by best-selling author and comic book icon Warren Ellis and executive produced by Warren Ellis, Kevin Kolde, Fred Seibert and Adi Shankar.

Castlevania, also known as Akumaj? Dracula, was first released by Konami in Japan in 1986 for the original Nintendo NES console. It made its way to North America in 1987 and became a cult hit, making the lists of many “best video games ever.”

The Netflix original series adaptation of Castlevania drops on the streaming service on July 7.

Dwayne Johnson Announces Presidential Campaign on ‘SNL’, Watch the Best & Worst Sketches

by Ethan Anderton
Corey

The first one is pretty crazy.

Dwayne Johnson Hosted Saturday Night Live

This past weekend the 42nd season finale of Saturday Night Live arrived with host Dwayne Johnson joining the Five Timers Club, just like Melissa McCarthy did last week. Not only did Johnson get his honorary jacket, but he was joined by fellow Five Timers Club members Alec Baldwin and Tom Hanks, and he picked one of them to be his running mate when announcing his candidacy for president in 2020.

Watch what happens and see the best and worst sketches from the Dwayne Johnson hosted Saturday Night Live after the jump.

The Best

World’s Most Evil Invention – This is one of the most shocking sketches to be on Saturday Night Live in awhile. I honestly cannot believe they got away with this punchline on network television. If you haven’t watched it yet, I’m not going to spoil it, but suffice it to say that Dwayne Johnson’s character has certainly crafted the most evil invention ever. Also, I’m wondering if White Castle approved of their mention at the end of the sketch. There were White Castle commercials during the telecast, so it makes me wonder if they approved some kind of product placement in a sketch and didn’t demand approval. Or White Castle is just a cool company and understand that some of the best comedy is subversive.

WWE Promo Shoot – This sketch was done last time Dwayne Johnson hosted, and it was with Bobby Moynihan back then too. It’s the same premise as last time with Dwayne Johnson’s wrestling character using personal information to take jabs at Moynihan’s character rather than the usual trash talk. What really sells it is Bobby Moynihan’s heartbroken and tearful reaction to being humiliated.

Rap Song – At first I thought this was going to be a straight-up music video with a new comedic song, but instead it’s lampooning the high amount of rappers that appear in single songs. It’s a bit of a simple premise, but it’s the characters themselves and their names that make it funny, including a special cameo of a character from a previous sketch that I won’t spoil if you haven’t watched the sketch yet.

‘The Alienist’ Trailer: Luke Evans, Daniel Brühl and Dakota Fanning Go Looking For a Killer

by Jack Giroux

the alienist trailer

The director of True Detective season one and Beasts of No Nation, Cary Fukunaga, was originally going to executive produce and direct The Alienist. After some delay, Fukunaga dropped out directing the TNT miniseries based on Caleb Carr‘s novel. He did, however, remain involved as an executive producer in the drama, which stars Dakota FanningLuke Evans (High-Rise), and Daniel Brühl (Rush).

Below, watch The Alienist trailer.

Jakob Verbruggen, who directed the Black Mirror episode “Men Against Fire,” ended up helming episodes of The Alienist instead of Fukunaga. Screenwriter Eric Roth (The Insider) is an executive producer on the series written by Hossein Amini, who wrote Drive and directed the pretty good adaptation of The Two Faces in January.

Some great talent are involved in the series about the search for a serial killer in 1896 New York City. A criminal psychologist/alienist, Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl), a newspaper illustrator John Moore (Evans), and a secretary at the Police Headquarters, Sara Howard (Fanning), investigate who’s behind the ghastly murders of young boy prostitutes.

Here’s the trailer for The Alienist, which is 10 episodes long:

The Alienist is the kind of pitch dark and grisly material the True Detective director probably could’ve worked his magic with. Even without Fukanaga behind the camera, the TNT series looks like another compelling murder mystery dealing with obsession. It definitely doesn’t come across as a stuffy period in the trailer. The three leads are a draw as well. Evans, in particular, has been doing especially good work lately, with Beauty and the Beast and his surprising and disturbing turn in High-Rise

As for Fukunaga, the director and all involved couldn’t agree on a budget for The Alienist. Once a figure was decided, it took long enough for the TNT project to clash with the director’s other commitments. He left the series to focus on making another film, The Black Count, and Netflix’s Maniac.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Alienist:

The Alienist is an upcoming American drama television series based on the novel of same name by Caleb Carr. The psychological thriller drama is set in 1896, when a series of gruesome murders of boy prostitutes has gripped the city. Newly appointed top cop Teddy Roosevelt calls upon Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, a criminal psychologist — aka alienist — and newspaper illustrator John Moore to conduct the investigation in secret. Joining them in the probe is Sara Howard, a headstrong secretary at Police Headquarters.

The Alienist is expected to premiere later this year on TNT.

Report: Tom Hardy Is Your Venom In 2018 Movie, Directed By Ruben Fleischer

by Jude Terror

venomspider-man3

Tom Hardy has been cast in the titular role for Columbia Pictures’ Venom, according to a report from Variety. Hardy’s previous supervillain cred includes playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. In the comics, Bane uses a drug called the venom serum to enhance his strength, making us wonder if they had this planned all along!! Ruben Fleischer will direct a script written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner.

Though billed as a Spider-Man spinoff, Spider-Man Homecoming director Jon Watts has gone on record as saying the movie won’t tie into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and thus by association it must also not tie into Spider-Man: Homecoming, which is set there. Venom has been in development for a while, but various Spider-Man reboots have caused it to exist in its own pocket cinematic universe, which is just as well. The movie is rumored to be shooting for an R-Rating.

Venom is set for a 2018 release date.

Simon Pegg And Nick Frost Form Their Own Movie/TV Banner

by Kaitlyn Booth

Nice.

Shaun of the DeadNick Frost and Simon Pegg are back and have formed their own TV/movie banner called Stolen Pictures according to Deadline. The first movie the pair will produce under the banner is called Slaughterhouse Rulez. The movie will be directed by Crispian Mills and is based on a script he co-wrote with Henry Fitzherbert

Slaughterhouse Rulez is set in an elite boarding school – Welcome to Slaughterhouse – where boys and girls are groomed for power and greatness and they’re about to meet their match. The story’s hero, Don Wallace, is a wide-eyed new boy from a modest background forced to navigate a baffling new world of arcane rules and rituals, presided by sadistic sixth formers. Matters of status are aggressively enforced and conversation with school goddess Clemsie, are strictly forbidden.

But this ancient and ordered world is about to be shaken to its foundations – literally – when a controversial frack site on prize school woodland causes seismic tremors, a mysterious sinkhole and an unspeakable horror is unleashed. Soon a new pecking order will be established as pupils, teachers and the school matron become locked in a bloody battle for survival.

Stolen Picture will be based in the UK but are going to be looking for movies and television to a global audience. They are looking to product a large variety of projects that are “in line with Pegg and Frost’s unique brand.”

Who's in??

Mystery Science Theater 3000 Tour

Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans are very happy to have the movie-mocking show back thanks to a revival from Netflix that brought 13 new episodes to the streaming service. It’s like the series never left! Now fans will get to enjoy the show live in-person with a Mystery Science Theater 3000 tour, which will be traveling around the United States this summer.

Find out where the tour is headed and what the show entails below.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 creator Joel Hodgson is hitting the road with the show’s new host Jonah Ray for the “Watch Out for Snakes!” Tour. Checking in via video screen will be Kinga Forrester (Felicia Day) and TV’s Son of TV’s Frank (Patton Oswalt).

What’s cool about this tour is that it will involve two separate, unique shows. You’ll need a different ticket for each show, but both will offer exactly what Mystery Science Theater 3000 fans are looking for: riffing on B-movies. The first show will be the MST3K favorite Eegah (one of the classic episodes available on Netflix), complete with new riffs and sketches, and there will also be some sort of audience participation as well. The second show is being billed as a “Secret Surprise Film!” that is only described as a “fun, sci-fi thriller” that’s never before been featured on MST3K and is only being performed at 11 of the stops on the tour.

Tickets will go on sale this Friday, May 19 at 12:00 P.M. local time through AXS.com and the respective venue’s box office. Don’t forget, each of the two shows are tickets separately, so if you plan on going to both, you should be buying two separate tickets.

Red Band ‘The House’ Trailer: Get Your Passport Ready for F**ktown

by Ethan Anderton

The House Trailer

Now that blockbuster summer is in full swing, I’ve been wondering what the hit comedy of the season is going to be. Snatched has arrived and it doesn’t seem to be nearly as good as Trainwreck. Most people might say Baywatch is the next best option, but with all we’ve seen so far, I don’t think it’s going to deliver. Rough Night has the potential to break out as well, but I’m still on the fence with it. There’s The Big Sick, which we know brings the goods, but that’s a lower key release and even though it’s hilarious, it’s not a straight-up big studio comedy. But after seeing a new red band trailer for one of our summer comedy options, I’m ready to place my bet.

The House stars Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler as a couple who find themselves in the unfortunate position of having squandered their teenage daughter’s college fund just as she’s graduating high school. So what’s the best way to make sure she doesn’t end up a homeless stripper? Start an underground casino with hilarious results.

Watch the new red band The House trailer below, and beware of profanity and brief nudity making this NSFW.

If you think this looks like it has some of the comedic style of Neighbors, that’s because it’s scripted by that fraternity comedy’s writers Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien, with the former also making his feature directing debut. If this trailer is any indicator, than Cohen will have a bright future directing comedies after this.

If Will Ferrell and Amy Poehler isn’t enough to entice you to see this movie, Jason Mantzoukas looks like he could be the MVP of this movie since the underground suburban casino is all his idea. That last scene where Steve Zissis gets his hand accidentally cut off, causing Mantzoukas to nearly vomit had me cracking up. I think this is going to be the summer comedy that has everyone rolling in the aisles.

The rest of the cast includes Allison Tolman (Fargo) as our main characters’ financial advisor, Rob Huebel as a police officer,  Lennon Parham (Veep) as a woman who gets a little too caught up in the Las Vegas lifestyle that emerges in the neighborhood, and Nick Kroll as a man who creates trouble for Poehler and Ferrell when he find out about their gambling ring. Sam Richardson, Rory Scovel, Andrea Savage, Michaela Watkins and Kyle Kinane will also appear.

After losing their college fund, Scott (Will Ferrell) and Kate (Amy Poehler) must figure out a way to earn some cash so their daughter (Ryan Simpkins) can go to school. With help from their neighbor Frank (Jason Mantzoukas), the couple start an underground casino in the basement of their house. As the money rolls in and the good times fly, Scott and Kate soon learn that they may have bitten off more than they can chew.

The House opens on June 30.
