Final Deadpool 2 Trailer Drops Confirms Characters

by Anthony

The final Deadpool 2 Trailer hit the Internet moments ago and confirms Deadpool’s X-Force team characters. Due to language it is possibly NSFW.

In addition to making jokes about the DC movie universe, and Josh Brolin being both Cable and Thanos, the trailer confirms the identities of some of the X-Force team seen on the Helicopter. The team includes:

Domino (we knew)
Bedlam (Imdb gave it away a few weeks back)
Shatterstar (who was highly suspected due to the Rob Liefeld face frame thing and white costume)
and Peter (average guy with no powers, sure to becomen a fan favorite like Dopinder)

2 Deadpool Bars Coming: One in LA One in NYC

by Mary Anne Butler

Who doesn’t want to have an adult beverage in a Deadpool bar? Maybe don’t answer that, but the excited parties more than likely outweigh the wet blankets.

The Merc with a Mouth has long been a fan favorite character, but the 2016 film starring Ryan Reynolds launched the red-and-black anti-hero into the cultural zeitgeist with a unicorn. The much-anticipated sequel is right around the corner, with Deadpool 2 set to open in theaters in May, despite lengthy last-minute reshoots and some mixed reports of test screening results.

I digress — the real news here is that there are two Deadpool-themed bars coming for a limited time; one in Los Angeles and the other in New York City. Kind of the perfect place to sample the new Mike’s Harder adult beverages with Deadpool-inspired flavors.

The two Sister Margaret’s School for Wayward Girls bars are a promotional marriage between Mike’s Harder and Fox, one that we can’t really complain about. It fits the character, it speaks to the target audience (we guess) for the sequel film, and the timing is pretty great.

Both the bar locations will feature exclusive Deadpool 2-themed Mike’s Harder cans (no word on any other kind of collectables and swag, but we’re assuming there will be some).

Alligator Lounge in Brooklyn will play host to the NYC bar from April 26th through the 28th and will reportedly serve pizza. Maybe the TMNT will stop by.

Los Angeles’s the Slipper Clutch in DTLA (Downtown Los Angeles) will host the California bar experience from May 10th through the 12th, and they’ll reportedly be serving — wait for it — CHIMICHANGAS.

Mike’s Harder is even sponsoring a Deadpool 2 contest, offering the chance for a 21+ fan to attend the film’s premiere. You can check that out (and enter) here.

Deadpool 2 is set to open on May 18th in US theaters.

Jason Statham Versus a Very Big Shark in First Trailer For The Meg

by Renaldo Matadeen
Corey

100% in on this.

Jason Statham Versus a Very Big Shark in First Trailer For The Meg

Follow a teaser image released last year, we now have the first trailer that pits Jason Statham against a gargantuan prehistoric Megalodon. That’s right, Statham will transport us to the world of giant-shark hunting this summer in The Meg.

Directed by Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure), the film revolves around a deep-sea submersible containing a bunch of experts as part of an international observation program that suddenly finds itself under attack by the 75-foot monstrosity. With the submersible and its crew now at the bottom of the Pacific, expert deep-sea diver Jonas Taylor (Statham) is recruited by an oceanographer (Winston Chao) as part of a rescue mission.

From the trailer, we see the mammoth shark stalking its prey in Jaws-like fashion before Statham’s character jumps into action rather fast and rather furiously to save the people. Not only does the shark attack the research team, it cuts a bloody path in open water going after yachts and, of course, swimmers.

RELATED: Jason Statham Meets A Giant, Prehistoric Shark in The Meg’s First Look

The thing is, with time running out, it turns out Taylor actually encountered the predator years before in his aquatic escapades and must now face his fears by engaging it once more. It’s clear, however, that he’ll need a much bigger boat.

RELATED: Fast and Furious Spin-Off Movie Gets 2019 Release

Based on Steven Alten’s 1997 sci-fi novel, The Meg was stuck in development hell for years. Eli Roth once expressed interest in the project, but eventually directorial duties went over to National Treasure’s Jon Turteltaub. Last March also saw the release of Meg: Generations, the seventh title in Alten’s ongoing shark saga, meaning there’s plenty of source material for Statham to build yet another franchise.

Swimming into theaters on Aug. 10, The Meg stars Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, Winston Chao, Page Kennedy, Jessica McNamee, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, Robert Taylor, Cliff Curtis, Sophia Shuya Cai and Masi Oka.

Union Dry Dock sold to Trump Hoboken

by Edward Perez

Booooooooo

BREAKING NEWS; HOBOKEN, NJ – Trump Organization to Purchase Union Dry Dock in Hoboken, NJ

Reuters is reporting this morning that The NJ Transit Board of Directors and NY Waterway Corp will meet next Wednesday to vote on a controversial purchase of waterfront property in Hoboken by Russian billionaire Lirpa Sloof Yad who plans to build a 40 story tall high rise in conjunction with the Trump Organization for a planned 722 unit condo building to be named Trump Hoboken.

The board had previously planned to vote on the purchase of the Union Dry Dock property in its April meeting, but it pulled the item from the agenda after Mayor Ravinder Bhalla and dozens of residents petitioned the company to stop the sale to NY Waterway and instead allow the City of Hoboken to purchase the property

Mayor Balla has called for an emergency meeting with Gov. Phil Murphy to interpreted the timing of this last-minute effort by the NY Waterway to finalize this deal in attempt to block the cities attempted purchase through the use of eminent domain. Murphy had urged the board to postpone the vote.

“Giving away this prime waterfront property to the Russians and the Trump Organization is a slap in the face of the State, County and citizens of Hoboken!”, Murphy said at the time, criticizing the deal on Easter Sunday as an example of how NJ Transit had become what he called a “national disgrace.”

Request for comment for Donald Trump Jr, Executive President of the Trump Organization or Mr Yad have so far not been given at this time.

Mayor Balla has stated earlier this morning that “This was a real-estate transaction that was trying to be rushed through while the city was in negotiation to purchase the property directly or through eminent domain, we will continue the fight now with the Russians and Trump Organization,” Bhalla said by telephone to Reuters.

Disney Eyes ‘High Fidelity’-Inspired Series with Female Lead for New Streaming Service

by Ray Flook
high fidelity series disney female lead

Expect a lot more Top 5 lists and a lot less cynical music pretentiousness (I’m looking at you, Barry) — Disney is planning a gender-swapped romantic comedy series inspired by Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel High Fidelity and the 2000 feature adaptation for its upcoming streaming service. Writers Veronica West and Sarah Kucserka‘s (Bull, Ugly Betty) series looks to capture the romantic comedy and authentic spirit of the book/film with a friendly, optimistic tone.

While the original 2000 film was rated R, Disney is looking for a much more lighthearted “mixtape/diary rom-com” series, with a PG-13 rating for family co-viewing. This would keep it consistent with Disney’s plans for a family-friendly service that’s free of R-rated movies or series. Scott Rosenberg, who co-wrote the High Fidelity feature, and Midnight Radio will produce the series alongside ABC Signature Studios (SMILF), the cable/streaming division of ABC Studios.

As Disney prepares to launch its new streaming service in Fall 2019, they continue looking to their library of properties — including Disney, Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm — for programming ideas. Disney has already announced Star Wars, Marvel and Monsters Inc. series; as well as a High School Musical reboot and possibly a new Muppets series from Muppet Studios. Disney’s service will also feature thousands of hours of the media giant’s films and television programming. As previously reported, Disney’s goal is to generate four to five original movies and five TV series during its freshman year, with series budgets expected to cost between $25 million-$35 million for 10 episodes; with a large, potential “tent pole” series possible being capped out at $100 million for a 10-episode season.

Directed by Stephen Frears and starring co-screenwriter John Cusack (Better Off Dead), 2000’s High Fidelity featured Cusack’s Rob Gordon, a music store owner who can’t seem to make his relationships last so he decides to seek out some of his old flames with the hope of getting some answers. Jack Black, Lisa Bonet, Joelle Carter, Joan Cusack, Sara Gilbert, Iben Hjejle, Tim Robbins, Todd Louiso and Lili Taylor round out the cast.

Thor: Ragnarok’s Karl Urban Set as Billy Butcher in Amazon’s ‘The Boys’ Series Adaptation

by Ray Flook
Corey

Very excited for this show.

Credit: Marvel Studios

From the streets of Mega-City One to the bridge of the U.S.S. Enterprise to…kicking the holy hell out of super-heroes on the government dime? Looks like that’s case for Karl Urban (Thor: Ragnarok), who will leading up The Boys in Amazon‘s series adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson‘s comic book series The Boys. Created for series by Eric Kripke (Supernatural) and with Preacher‘s Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen attached, the series is set to be a co-production between Sony Pictures TV Studios, Amazon and Neal H. Moritz’s Original Films.

Leader of The Boys, Urban’s Billy Butcher is mysterious and brutal; hiding a personal agenda as he approaches Hughie (Jack Quaid), claiming to be a shadowy government operative. Butcher capitalizes on Hughie’s rage over his girlfriend Robin’s accidental death at the hands of Superhero A-Train (Jesse T. Usher) and enlists Hughie as part of his plan to bring down the super-hero franchise.

Credit: DC Comics

Joining Urban and Quaid on The Boys are Laz Alonso (The Mysteries of Laura) as second-in-command Mother’s Milk; and Karen Fukuhara (Suicide Squad) as The Female, a young Asian assassin with blistering fighting skills who happens to have superpowers. The role of The Frenchman (or “Frenchie” as referenced in earlier reports) has yet to be cast.

Joining Usher on The Seven are Antony Starr (American Gothic) as Homelander, leader of the main superhero team, The Seven; Dominique McElligott (The Last Tycoon) as Queen Maeve, a member of The Seven; Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl) as The Seven member The Deep, an aquatic hero; Nathan Mitchell (iZombie) as Black Noir, a masked superhero with fighting and Set martial arts skills; and Erin Moriarty (Jessica Jones) as Starlight/Annie, a young woman who can make lightning bolts flash from her eyes and dreams of being a “real superhero” like the famous Seven.

Urban recently appeared as Skurge in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok; and is also known for his roles as Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy in the Star Trek film franchise; as Éomer in Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy; and as Mega-City One’s main street judge in Judge Dredd.

Here’s an overview of the comic book series that was originally published from 2006-2012 from Wildstorm and Dynamite Entertainment:

This is going to hurt! In a world where costumed heroes soar through the sky and masked vigilantes prowl the night, someone’s got to make sure the “supes” don’t get out of line. And someone will! Billy Butcher, Wee Hughie, Mother’s Milk, The Frenchman, and The Female are The Boys: A CIA-backed team of very dangerous people, each one dedicated to the struggle against the most dangerous force on Earth – superpower! Some superheroes have to be watched. Some have to be controlled. And some of them – sometimes – need to be taken out of the picture. That’s when you call in The Boys!

Glenn Howerton Returning to FXX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 13 for “Some Episodes”

by Ray Flook
Credit: FXX

After weeks of “will he/won’t he” confusion, of course it would be Dee who would have the scoop on the future of her brother. With Kaitlin Olson wrapping up the second season of her Fox sitcom The Mick, the actress confirmed that her It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-star Glenn Howerton‘s (A.P. Bio) Dennis Reynolds would be returning to the FXX series for its 13th season.

Speaking with The Wrap, Olson confirmed that Howerton would be back – while avoiding any specific details on how his return would be handled:

“I do know that Glenn Howerton is coming back for some episodes. I don’t know the specifics, but I do know how he’s being introduced back in, and it is absolutely hilarious.”

Howerton recently addressed the matter through a series of tweets at the end of January 2017 – prior to the premiere of A.P. Bio on NBC:

Howerton makes it clear to It’s Always Sunny fans that the two series are completely separate and different projects:

One of the reasons Howerton can’t tell you if Dennis is coming back? Spoilers, folks:

But even if Dennis ends up “gone forever,” Howerton knows exactly where he’s at:

Finally – with a move that Dennis would be proud of – Howerton invoked no less than “The Brahma Bull” himself to help fans better understand the “subtle nuances” between projects:

When it was first announced that Howerton would be spending some time outside of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s Paddy’s Pub to (hopefully) “teach” a couple of seasons of A.P. Bio at NBC, Sunny fans started to get nervous about Howerton’s future with the FXX series. While we’re not going to spoil anything here, the Season 12 finale didn’t exactly do much to ease fans’ concerns over Dennis’ fate.

Credit: NBC

Howerton addressed the issue during the A.P. Bio panel at the Television Critics Association (TCA) press event. earlier this year, reassuring those who think A.P. Bio is “replacing” his work on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia  that the two shows are separate projects; and that A.P. Bio gives him a unique opportunity to work with individuals he admires:

“I’ve not officially left It’s Always Sunny, so I hope people understand that. This is a totally separate project that I’m doing. The thing about doing a show for 12 years is that people might have a hard time seeing you as anything else […] I wasn’t planning on jumping into anything else, but I saw it was Lorne Michaels and Seth Meyers, and I just loved it.”

As for the future of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Howerton emphasized that while the team still enjoys making the series, each of them needs to be able to take breaks and work on other projects to avoid personal/professional burnout; and to maintain the show’s quality:

“I don’t know if this is going to turn into a ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’ thing where we make them when we can or if it’s gonna pick up where it left off and it’s gonna be every year again. I don’t really know […] We’ve talked about [a gap between season]. We love the show and we love each other and we want to keep doing it and if we can get away with just doing it whenever we want, why not? Creatively speaking, we just want the show to be good, so if any of us is feeling burned out and we feel like it’s gonna compromise the quality of the show, we just won’t do it.”

That video of 9-year-old Khabib Nurmagomedov wrestling a bear is even better with play-by-play

By now, you’ve probably seen or at least know about the video footage of 9-year-old Khabib Nurmagomedov wrestling a bear.

If you haven’t seen it or don’t know about it, then you’re in for a treat. Because little boy Khabib wrestling a friggin’ bear – chained or not – is the stuff of legend, and watching it never gets old.

In fact, it just got even better thanks to TSN commentator Robin Black’s wonderful play-by-play analysis he added and shared today (via Twitter):

As you can see, 9-year-old Khabib held his own grappling the bear, though the bear did hit a “classic Georges St-Pierre takedown” that’s pretty impressive.

SO GOOD.

To watch Khabib vs. Bear in full, check out the video below:

The undefeated Nurmagomedov (25-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) takes on featherweight champion Max Holloway (19-3 MMA, 15-3 UFC) in Saturday’s UFC 223 headliner at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., which airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Donald Glover Brilliantly Mocks ‘Deadpool’ Cancellation with Script Pages Taking Shots at Marvel

by Ethan Anderton

Donald Glover Reacts to Deadpool Cancellation

Over the weekend, we learned the surprising and disappointing news that both FX and Donald Glover had parted ways with the Deadpool animated series they were working on with Marvel Television. This happened despite the fact that the show had been given a straight-to-series order for 10 episodes that would have seen Donald Glover writing and executive producing the series along with his brother, Stephen Glover.

In what seems to be a playful but also telling reaction to the Deadpool animated series cancellation, Donald Glover posted a series of updates to Twitter in the form of 14 script pages that appear to have commentary about why the series may have been axed. They’re simultaneously hilarious and seemingly not-too-pleased with the cancellation.

Many outlets are reporting these script pages as being part of what Donald Glover wrote for the Deadpool animated series, but that’s clearly not the case. First of all, Glover would be in big legal trouble if he released those pages on Twitter. Secondly, the script is full of references to things that happened within the past week.

For example, the entire premise of these 14 pages is Deadpool being hired to protect Sudan, the last surviving male Northern white rhinoceros that died about a week ago. But there’s also a reference to the viral story about Beyoncé being bitten, according to actress Tiffany Haddish. At one point Deadpool even makes reference to people reading this instead of watching it. But these script pages contain so much more than timely pop culture references.

What Should We Take Away from This?

There appears to be plenty of subtext (and plain text) here in the script that might indicate the nature of the “creative differences” that resulted in the cancellation of Deadpool. You’ll notice how two of the African protectors of Sudan don’t understand the references Deadpool is making, leading the superhero to say, “Wow. Nothing’s landing. Our cultures are so different. We have so much to teach each other.” That sounds an awful lot like a cryptic way of pointing out why Donald Glover’s scripts for Deadpool may not have been well-received.

However, the script gets far more blunt and reflective about what happened in the pages that follow. Deadpool gets a text about the show being canceled and he has a one-sided conversation with Sudan. Deadpool says he doesn’t know why he’s in this situation, “I think the writer’s just mad. Or bored.”

Deadpool continues to reflect, seemingly as a sort of inner-monologue for Glover himself, “You know, I’m not mad about this whole “cancelled” thing. I actually think it’s a good thing. I mean, is it even a good time to have a violent, gun-loving white man ranting on TV? Other than the president!”

The “conversation” with Sudan continues with commentary about what Marvel wanted from the show, perhaps just another way to sell toys. Deadpool talks about how the references might have been geared too much towards a black audience, perhaps alienating white audiences. And this meta script is certainly evidence of why Marvel executives might have thought that. But that’s also what makes the prospect of this now-canceled series so exciting.

A Missed Opportunity

Reading this Deadpool script really shows how smart and hilarious this series would have been. There are plenty of references for all audiences to get, as well as references that are geared towards more niche audiences and demographics. That’s just how comedy works. Not every joke is going to land with every audience member. But they’re flying fast and if you miss one joke, you’ll just get the next one.

This script reminds me a lot of 30 Rock, which Glover used to write for when the series was on the air. The jokes came a mile a minute on that series, full of various references to pop culture, politics, social commentary and much more. There were plenty of jokes that didn’t always work for everyone, but the show was consistently funny and fast enough that it never really mattered. There was something for everyone at some point throughout an episode.

It’s a shame that Marvel seems to have balked at Glover’s approach to Deadpool at a time when diversity is king at the box office and appeals to all audiences. Look at how huge Black Panther is (another reference made in the script), and then tell me that a version of Deadpool that has a different cultural perspective wouldn’t work today.

You can read all 14 of the script pages Donald Glover wrote as a reaction to the Deadpool cancellation below.

Steven Spielberg Confirms Indiana Jones 5 Production Start Date

by Kaitlyn Booth

Steven Spielberg is hustling these days. With Ready Player One coming out next week, it was a whole three months between that and The Post. He’s jumping from one major movie to another as Spielberg announced a start date and location for Indiana Jones 5. He made the announcement while accepting the Legend of Our Lifetime award at the Rakuten TV Empire Awards (via The Tracking Board).

“It’s always worth the trip when I get to work with this deep bench of talent coming out of the UK. The actors, and the crew, the chippies, the sparks, the drivers — everybody who has helped me make my movies here, and will continue helping me make my movies here when I come back in April 2019 to make the fifth Indiana Jones movie right here.”

Editorial credit: BAKOUNINE / Shutterstock.com

That start time makes sense considering the timeline. Spielberg is a perfectionist, and that timeline gives him over a year to shoot the movie and go through post-production. Spielberg has plenty of projects he’s working on between now and then as a producer though, so it’s not like he’s going to be taking a break once the Ready Player One press tour ends.

Indiana Jones 5, directed by Steven Spielberg, will star Harrison Ford and be written by David Koepp. It will be released on July 10th, 2020.

Move Over, Hamilton! National Lampoon’s Vacation Gets Rebooted as a Broadway Musical

by Jude Terror

Did the 2015 reboot of the classic Vacation films leave something* to be desired? Don’t worry! The franchise is getting another chance at a second life, because it will soon be coming to Broadway as a musical! Producers Ken Davenport and Kurt Deutsch have optioned the movie for Broadway, according to a report from sandwich-themed Hollywood gossip site The Wrap.

“Both Kurt and I came of age on the Vacation films series and can’t wait to bring the Griswolds to Broadway,” said Davenport. “If audiences thought their cinematic misadventures were funny, wait till Clark and his family get to Times Square.”

Yeah. Sounds hilarious.

“Millions of tourists come to New York for the first time every year and each one has a singular experience,” said Deutsch. “The Griswolds’ maiden trip to the city will be no exception, though in this case, theirs is guaranteed to be outrageous, unique, hilarious – and well-choreographed. While the characters are familiar, Broadway Vacation will take them on a completely original musical journey – and on a trip to New York that they will never forget.”

And if those tourists are lucky enough, or bad enough drivers, maybe they can even find themselves in a real-life road-rage altercation with original Vacation star Chevy Chase! Ah, New York! No word yet on when this sure-to-be hit will debut, but we’ll keep you posted.

The British comedy troupe was founded in 1969 when their series Flying Circus was first broadcast on BBC.  Original members Graham Chapman (who passed away in 1989) and Cleese knew each other from pre Python days, as the pair wrote together for other notable comedians of the day. To this day, there is only 1 American member of the troupe, Terry Gilliam.

I’m holding out for Michael Palin’s Around the World in 80 Days because it was pretty fabulous.

Russell Crowe is Holding an Auction via Sotheby’s Called “The Art of Divorce”

by Mary Anne Butler

You know you’ve always wanted to own a piece of Hollywood, and Russell Crowe‘s “The Art of Divorce” auction through Sotheby’s Australia might just be your chance. The Oscar-winning actor is going through the last steps in finalizing a divorce from almost-former-wife Danielle Spencer.

Crowe has said this auction is to “create some space for the future” in an interview with Australia’s Daily Telegraph.

“The sale represents the dispersal of a highly personal collection that was assembled by Crowe over many years, including those shared with his former wife Danielle Spencer,” the official auction catalogue on Sotheby’s reads.

Some of the highlights in the collection aren’t even the movie stuff (for me personally, Russell’s guitars are the real gems), but there are some notable pieces that I wasn’t expecting to see, like the 1986 Grammy award presented to Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Sam Phillips, Rick Nelson, and Chips Moman for best spoken word or non-musical recording for interviews from the Class of ’55 recording session.

Like Maximus’s cuirass from the death scene in Gladiator, which has an early estimate of $20,000 t0 30,000.

Or maybe you’d prefer Javert’s vest from the 2012 film version of Les Miserables, because that’s in here for an estimate of $1,500-2,000.

The sleeves vest with a high black collar embroidered to the front with fleur de lis, brass buttons.

“This vest was part of my costume for Les Misérables (2012). The actual uniform had sleeves and a tail. When filming horse riding scenes in this costume, with a blue riding coat over the top, it was very uncomfortable so I asked the costume department to make a version that was only what you would see under the coat,” Crowe says. (Javert’s full uniform is also available.)

Maybe Master and Commander is more your speed, in which case Captain Jack Aubrey’s number 2 blues naval uniform is the lot for you, with an estimate of $25,000-35,000.

Worn in the scene in which ‘Captain Jack Aubrey’ orders his crew to land, in order for ‘Dr Maturin’ to operate on his own wound, comprising a dark blue, long wool Captain’s coat with gold thread embroidered shoulder boards and brass Naval buttons, a cream coloured ruffled cotton shirt, a cream wool vest, cream coloured breeches and a black neck wrap tie, and a pair of high top black leather riding boots and cream woollen socks, together with a framed photograph of Russell Crowe as ‘Captain Jack Aubrey’, signed to the reverse by Russell Crowe

The auction is definitely worth a look if you are a Russell Crowe fan, or enjoy a good catalogue of items you’ll never be able to afford.
