These Custom Action Figures From Movies and Games Are So Incredibly Awesome

by Germain Lussier

If you love pop culture, odds are you’ve got a soft spot for action figures. Problem is, even with more companies than ever making figures from weirder and weirder properties, there are simply some movies and shows that will never get the figure treatment. That is, unless an artist does it themselves.

Veep Season 7 Shooting This Fall, Set for Spring 2019 Premiere

by Ray Flook

Fans of Julia Louis-Dreyfus‘s Veep should keep their spring 2019 viewing calendar open, as HBO president of programming Casey Bloys confirmed the timeframe for the show’s seventh and final season during the cable giant’s Television Critics Association (TCA) session on Wednesday. When asked for an update on the series’ return, Bloys responded, “Writers are now getting together, with shooting scheduled to begin this fall, and the final season 7 airing sometime this spring.”

This seems to confirm comments from Veep co-star Matt Walsh (Upright Citizens Brigade) from January 2018. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Walsh revealed that Louis-Dreyfus has completed chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer and has been participating in table reads for the upcoming season. At the time, Walsh expected production on season 7 to begin by the end of the summer, with new episodes airing in 2019:

“Veep is on hiatus, we’ll start filming in August and it will air in 2019. We’ve known for about a month. We’ve seen [Julia], she’s done some table reads, she’s doing well, she’s finished her last chemo, she’s in recuperation. Her prospectives have remained excellent throughout. She’s very well loved; she’s a tremendous person.”

In February, she posted a photo of herself after surgery with the caption. “Hoorah! Great doctors, great results, feeling happy and ready to rock after surgery. Hey cancer, ‘F*ck you!’ Here’s my first post-op photo.”

It was on September 28th, 2017 — less than two weeks after she took home her record sixth Emmy for her role as Selina Meyer –that Louis-Dreyfus took to Twitter to reveal to her followers and the public that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Louis-Dreyfus was actually diagnosed the day after the Emmy Awards, and all parties made it clear that her diagnosis had nothing to do with the decision to end Veep‘s run with the seventh season. Less than two months after the reveal came word that production on the HBO series’ seventh and final season had been put on hold while the actress underwent cancer treatment.

Veep stars Louis-Dreyfus as Selina Meyer, the former vice president and “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” president, who struggles to navigate uncharted political territory. The ensemble cast also includes Walsh, Tony Hale, Anna Chlumsky, Reid Scott, Timothy Simons, Kevin Dunn, Gary Cole and Sam Richardson.

Because Why Not- ‘Stoned Alone’, Ryan Reynolds’ Revisit of ‘Home Alone’

by Mary Anne Butler

Even Christmas classics are not immune to the reboot treatment, as apparently Ryan Reynolds is looking at a Home Alone ‘revisit’ called Stoned Alone.

Deadline says that Reynolds is attached to produce and potentially play a role in Stoned Alone for FOX, with Augustine Frizzell set to direct from a Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider script.

The outlet goes on to say the story originated from an idea by Matt Reilly, with a description (of sorts):

Stoned Alone is reminiscent of that hallowed comedy classic. It centers around a twenty-something weed growing loser who misses the plane for his holiday ski trip. He makes the best of things by getting high. Paranoia sets in and he believes he hears someone break into his house. Turns out thieves have broken in. Fully stoned and fueled by paranoia, he tries to thwart the thieves and defend his castle.

We’ll let you know when we learn any additional information about the film.

Netflix Gives Joe Hill/Gabriel Rodriguez’s ‘Locke & Key’ 10-Episode Series Order

by Ray Flook
Credit: Joe Hill/Gabriel Rodriguez

Nearly two months after it was reported the streaming service was in direct negotiations to acquire the project, Netflix has officially announced a 10-episode adaptation of writer Joe Hill and artist Gabriel Rodriguez‘s comic book series Locke & Key from Carlton Cuse and IDW Entertainment.

Hill and Cuse are set to be joined on the creative team by Aron Eli Coleite and Meredith Averill. The first new episode will be written by Hill and Coleite, and Cuse and Averill will serve as showrunners. Netflix is not moving forward with the existing pilot, which Hulu surprisingly passed on in March 2018, and will also be redeveloping the scripts and re-casting the new series.

It‘s Andy Muschietti directed Hulu’s pilot, but work on It: Chapter Two will keep him from directing the Netflix version. Muschietti and Cuse will serve as executive producers, along with Barbara Muschietti, Cuse, Hill, Averill and Coleite. Genre Arts’ Lindsey Springer, IDW Entertainment’s Ted Adams and David Ozer, and David Alpert and Rick Jacobs via Circle of Confusion will also executive produce.

Hulu’s pilot cast included Frances O’Connor, Megan Charpentier, Jackson Robert Scott, and Jack Mulhern.

Following their father’s gruesome murder in a violent home invasion, the Locke children return to his childhood home of Keyhouse in secluded Lovecraft, Massachusetts. Their mother, Nina is too trapped in her grief—and a wine bottle—to notice that all in Keyhouse is not what it seems: too many locked doors, too many unanswered questions. Older kids Tyler and Kinsey aren’t much better. But not youngest son Bode, who quickly finds a new friend living in an empty well and a new toy, a key, that offers hours of spirited entertainment. But again, all at Keyhouse is not what it seems, and not all doors are meant to be opened. Soon, horrors old and new, real and imagined, will come ravening after the Lockes and the secrets their family holds.

Bruce Willis Says ‘Die Hard’ Is Not a Christmas Movie, Is Wrong

by Chris Evangelista
Corey

Shut up Bruce Willis.

Comedy Central Roast Of Bruce Willis

Bruce Willis recently woke up from one of his lengthy naps to attend The Comedy Central Roast Of Bruce Willis, where friends and well-wishers took to the stage to insult him. Willis then stepped up to the podium himself and committed the ultimate faux pas: he declared that his classic action film Die Hard is not a Christmas movie. You’re wrong, Bruce Willis.

Comedy Central continues to perform their infamous “roasts”, where audiences marvel as celebrities get utterly wasted on hard liquor and insult each other for a few hours. The celebrity roast is a time-honored tradition, going all the way back to the Friars Club of the 1940s, and Comedy Central has inexplicably kept it going well into the 21st century. The latest bigwig to get roasted is none other than Bruce Willis, an actor you might remember from the hit film Mercury Rising.

The Willis roast doesn’t air until the end of the month, but The Hollywood Report has some details about what went down. For instance: basketball person and nuclear war negotiator Dennis Rodman was there, and was promptly booed by the audience after he made a joke about his bff Kim Jong-un. There were also plenty of jokes about Donald Trump, Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey, all of which I’m sure were side-splitting.

But the biggest joke of all came from Willis himself. At the end of every roast, the roastee gets to take the stage and defend themselves through slurred speech and bitter rage. Willis stepped to the podium and delivered some barbs, and then he decided to take things to the extreme and declare that Die Hard, arguably his most famous film, is in fact not a Christmas movie.

I know it’s July, and talking about Christmas right now feels utterly pointless and silly, but let me just say this: Bruce Willis is wrong. Yes, I know – he starred in the film, and all of its sequels (all of which are bad except Die Hard With a Vengeance), so I suppose he has some insider perspective. But let’s get real here: Die Hard is a Christmas movie. So is Die Hard 2, which takes the whole Christmas thing even further and adds snow. In both films, Willis’ character John McClane learns the true meaning of Christmas: saving his family by killing people.

Of course, Willis was likely just having a laugh and ribbing his fans. In the grand scheme of things, I doubt he even cares about how audiences classify Die Hard. If you were to walk up to Bruce Willis on the street and say, “Hey, Bruno, Die Hard is actually a Yom Kippur movie!”, he’d likely say, “Sure, great, whatever floats your boat.”

The Comedy Central Roast Of Bruce Willis airs on Comedy Central July 29, 2018.

‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ Season 13 Gets First Teaser, Key Art

by Ray Flook

always sunny season 13 teaser art

With less than two months to go before It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia opens Paddy’s Pub for a 13th season, FXX is sharing a new teaser and key art ahead up the upcoming season premiere on Wednesday, September 5th, at 10 p.m. ET/PT. In the artwork, Charlie Day, Rob McElhenney, Danny DeVito, and Kaitlin Olson are pictured in an 80’s-style summer camp/slasher setting, running terrified from a secluded cabin and an ax-wielding, hockey mask-wearing maniac…who might just be Dennis (Glen Howerton)? Hmmm…clues…

The teaser spotlights a number of the show’ supporting players huddled around a campfire under the tagline “After 12 seasons, we have a lot of stories to tell”: Gregory Scott Cummins‘s Luther, Artemis Pebdani’s Artemis, Lynne Marie Stewart‘s Bonnie, Andrew Friedman‘s Uncle Jack, Lance Barber’s Bill Ponderosa, Thesy Surface’s Margaret McPoyle, Mary Elizabeth Ellis’ Waitress and Sandy Martin as Mac’s mom.

With Howerton’s NBC sitcom A.P. Bio being renewed for a second season (and an expected early 2019 airing), most were expecting the actor to have a scaled back role on the series due to conflicting filming schedules. With that said, there’s always the possibility that this is a big swerve on the part of FXX and the cast/crew of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia; and that Howerton may be back for more episodes than any of us expect.

Here’s a look back at the official Twitter announcement of the upcoming 13th season’s premiere date, as well as FXX’s official season synopsis – and if you believe what you’re reading, Dennis is going to be spending some serious “Daddy Dennis time” in North Dakota. So unless Dennis plans on lodging some serious “frequent flyer” miles back and forth to the bar, Howerton may be MIA for a decent chunk of the season.

The Gang Returns… mostly…. in the 13th season of the FXX original comedy series It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Mac (Rob McElhenney), Charlie (Charlie Day), Dee (Kaitlin Olson) and Frank (Danny DeVito) return to their duplicitous, scheming ways at Paddy’s Pub, while Dennis (Glenn Howerton) takes on the new role of father in North Dakota.

Even without Dennis Reynolds, the Gang has its hands full as Charlie hopes to have a child with The Waitress, Mac sets out to understand his newfound sexuality, Dee takes feminism to new heights, and Frank goes to great lengths for the Gang to experience the greatest moment in Philadelphia sports history – an Eagles Super Bowl victory.

Super7’s Boodega is a Universal Monsters Fan’s Dream

by Jeremy Konrad

Super7 is hosting their second activation of the week in San Diego. That’s right, second. After the success of Hordak’s Lair, they had a tough act to follow. Luckily they had the right stuff to do it. The Universal Monsters Boodega was the big coming out party for their new line of products based on the classic supernatural beings.

Right from the outside, with it’s old barbershop-style window art, Monster Kids like myself feel welcome and right at home. When you walked inside, a center table contained the liited to only one pair in each size shoe being offered. Four were available, and they sold out pretty dang fast. Also on the table were four awesome Ed Repka prints featuring The Bride, Frankenstein’s Monster, The Creature From the Black Lagoon, and The Mummy. Each of those was limited to only 50 of each.

The staff a Super7 also goes above and beyond customer service-wise. Not only were they fun and engaging, but my bag broke inside and they taped a box for me no questions asked. Shout-out to talking about figures and helping me out of a bind there guys.

My favorite items I got in the Boodega however are the Monster Soda and Retro Creature From the Black Lagoon mask. The soda was bottled in three different flavors for four different Universal Monsters: Dracula, Invisible Man, Creature From the Black Lagoon, and Metaluna. I got the Invisible Man “Invisabubble” citrus soda, and the Creature ” Amazon Apple” soda. Both were quite tasty, and it makes me sad I will never have them again.

The retro mask is where its at though. It comes in a vintage-style box, and invokes the classic masks of old. Creature is fine, but I wish their had been a Wolfman. It is made of really cool plastic, just like the old days, and is a must-have for collectors.

Pins, pennants, and the variant colorways for the first four figures in their new ReAction line, and you have the makings of one of the coolest takeovers at SDCC this year. Check out everything below, and if you are in San Diego you still have time to stop today. The Boodega will be open 11-5 on Sunday. 701 Eighth Ave. San Diego, CA 92101

‘The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot’ Has Far More to Offer Than An Amazing Title [Fantasia Film Festival]

by Steven Prokopy
Corey

I didn't read anything in this article, but I am going to see this movie based on the title.

The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot review

Even if the feature film debut from writer/director Robert D. Krzykowski was the single worst film of the year, it would still win the award for the greatest and most honest title of any movie ever: The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot. While this may seem like the title of a winking, silly send up of adventure movies, it is in fact a quite ambitious and straight-ahead action work that also finds ways to weave in more contemplative ideas on aging, missed opportunities, and painfully broken dreams.

Set not so much in an alternative reality, but more in a less polished version of history, the film tells the life story of American war veteran Calvin Barr (played in the “present” by a particularly surly Sam Elliott). He’s living out what he assumes will be his final years in an isolated New England town, drinking a bit too much in the local pub and allowing his memories of younger days to occupy his mind to the point where he almost goes catatonic at his barstool. The few people in his life that might notice his drifting in and out begin to worry, and we would too, except that the things he’s remembering are the stuff of legend.

As the film’s title suggests, during World War II, Calvin (played as a younger man by Aidan Turner of The Hobbit trilogy) pulled off the ultimate mission as the war was winding down and the Third Reich was in chaos. He managed to impersonate a Nazi officer, evade tight security that checked him for weapons, and get into a room with Adolf Hitler, whom he then assassinated. The sequence is so perfectly and economically rendered that we almost think there’s a catch, and for a time, we even wonder if the older Calvin is fantasizing the events rather than remembering them. But as we eventually discover, at least in this secret history of the world, Calvin Barr shot Hitler in the chest, and both the Germans and the Americans decided that a fiction about a suicide in a bunker was the version of events the outside world should be spoon fed.

By having a title as specific as The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot, it’s entirely sensible that the movie is actually not only about Calvin’s adventures. The film also focuses on his personal life, which was entwined and often hindered by his chosen profession. The love of his life, Maxine (Caitlin FitzGerald, from Masters of Sex), is left waiting behind for him, never knowing what he’s doing or how dangerous his missions are or even if he’ll return from them. As the older Calvin, Elliott so beautifully and achingly captures the melancholy of a man who willingly gave up the love of his life and has embraced the bitterness of the decision, blaming no one but himself. The one tie he is able to rekindle later in life is with his brother Ed (a surprisingly nuanced performance from comedian Larry Miller), and the scenes between them are the secret second heart of this movie.

Sam Elliott - The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot

Still struggling with how his heroic legacy ruined a great deal of the rest of his life, later-day (circa 1987, to be precise) Calvin is approached by a CIA agent (Ron Livingston) and a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (Rizwan Manji) to assist them in hunting down and killing a creature living in the Canadian wilderness and carrying a deadly virus that kills everything it infects. It just so happens that the creature in question is Bigfoot, and no one in the film bats an eye at the suggestions that this supposedly mythological creature is real and only now must be slaughtered. Admittedly, keeping the movie’s title in mind, all anyone really wants to see is Sam Elliott scrap with Bigfoot, and boy, do we get that, in all of its brutal, bloody, and sometimes grotesque glory. But even in what one might believe is a cut-and-dry killing for the sake of the national security of two countries, there is regret and mournful hesitation as Calvin contemplates making this unique beast extinct. Whether we realized it or not, we’ve been waiting for Elliott to play this type of emo action hero for decades, and he gets a couple of chances to lay out some baddies in this film, including a three-against-one fight with some would-be carjackers early in the film.

In so many ways, filmmaker Krzyowski has done the impossible: constructed a glorious action-adventure piece that takes out the boring parts of all action movies (the exposition) and replaced it with a character study about a broken ex-soldier, looking back on his life with a deep sense of loss and disappointment – not at his actions as a soldier, but at the things he had to give up to be one. One of the biggest shocks about The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot are some of the names that appear in its credits, including producers Lucky McKee (May, The Woman); Oscar-winning special effects guru Douglas Trumbull (who also provided some of the seamless effects for this movie); and the godfather of independent cinema John Sayles, whose gift of adding depth to B-movie storytelling is evident throughout this movie (taking nothing away from Krzyowski’s wonderfully nuanced screenplay).

From its world-weary hero to its no-nonsense, casual swapping of fiction for fact, The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then The Bigfoot uses action and something like science fiction to deliver an wholly entertaining, yet poignant message about aging, memories, and the seemingly endless possibilities of placing Sam Elliott at the helm of a genuinely solid action movie. Now excuse me, while I spend the next several months praying that this gets decent distribution and that audiences get to enjoy the beautiful landscapes of both the hinterlands and the distinguished lines in Elliott’s face on the big screen.

/Film Rating: 8 out of 10

‘Mid-90s’ Trailer: Jonah Hill Makes His Directorial Debut With Coming-of-Age Film

by Hoai-Tran Bui

mid-90s trailer

Jonah Hill has had a remarkable career arc. When he started out as a mainstay in crude comedies and broke out with the wildly raunchy Superbad, no one really expected him to go on to become an Oscar nominee — let alone a two-time Oscar nominee. Now Hill is stepping behind the camera with his directorial debut, Mid-90s. Based on a script penned by Hill, Mid-90s is a coming-of-age film set in — you guessed it — the ’90s. See the first trailer below.

Mid-90s Trailer

Mid-90s is Hill’s ode to ’90s skater culture, following Stevie (The Killing of a Sacred Deer’s Sunny Suljic), a 13-year-old growing up in LA who falls in with a group of friends he meets at a Motor Avenue skate shop. The movie takes place over the summer as Stevie navigates between his own troubled home life and the home lives of his new friends.

Mid-90s also stars Lady Bird‘s Lucas Hedges as Stevie’s older brother and Katherine Waterston as their mother.

The movie trailer feels very much like a love letter to the ’90s, with its grainy resolution and its Movietone aspect ratio. It’s less like an inspirational coming-of-age drama and more like a gritty, lived-in film befitting its A24 label. Suljic delivers a subtle performance after his breakout in The Killing of a Sacred Deer, while Hedges plays against type with a violent, hypermasculine turn as his older brother.

Waterston doesn’t appear in the trailer, but the Fantastic Beasts actress recently heaped praise on Hill’s directing skills, telling Metro, “He is a brilliant director. The cast was incredible. Sunny Suljic plays my son, and he is one of the most extraordinary little creatures I have ever met. He is incredibly talented, very young and an amazing skateboarder and just a cool kid.”

She summarized the plot as well, which remains fairly vague in official synopses, saying, “It is about a skateboarding kid, there’s also the family story that’s very intense and painful and complicated. I play the mum. But she’s not a typical mom. Lucas Hedges is my other son.”

Mid-90s opens in theaters on October 19, 2018.

The ‘Deadwood’ Movie Is Finally, Officially Happening

by Chris Evangelista
Corey

Yes!!!

Deadwood Movie

The Deadwood movie has gone through fits and starts for over 10 years. Now, it’s finally happening. HBO has officially given the greenlight to the film revival of the Western series that ran from from 2004 to 2006. Tell your god to ready for blood.

I want to temper my excitement here, because a part of me won’t believe the Deadwood movie is real until I’m watching it. But during today’s TCA summer press tour, HBO Programming president Casey Bloys confirmed the long-awaited Deadwood movie was finally, officially happening. “All of these people worked hard to get this together,” Bloys said (via Variety). “It’s been a logistics nightmare getting all the cast members’ schedules together but we are there. It is greenlit.”

Bloys added:

“I wanted a script that would stand on its own … I’m happy to say that David [Milch] totally delivered on that. It’s a terrific script.”

Deadwood was one of HBO’s best shows – a dirty, violent, Shakespearian Western that ran from 2004 to 2006. Despite critically acclaim, the ratings just weren’t quite there, and HBO pulled the plug after three seasons. At the time of the cancellation, creator David Milch said he hoped to wrap-up any lingering storylines with two movies. But those movies never happened. Then, in 2017, word broke that one Deadwood film would probably be happening. The script was ready, the cast was ready to sign on, and all seemed right in the world. Then, more delay. Now, it’s happening. For real. We swear.

Just the other day, Robin Weigert, who played the constantly intoxicated Calamity Jane on the series, confirmed as much. “It’s safe enough to say it’s happening this fall,” Weigert told the Los Angeles Times. “There’s a set being built and tax incentives to get it done. A lot of [actors] have signed on. There’s a 90% chance it’ll finally happen.” I guess with Bloys; statement, we can now bump that 90% up to 100%.

Earlier this year, the Deadwood movie just received a $4.195 million California tax incentive. As previously reported, “According to the California Film Commission regulations, a film or a TV series generally has to start principal photography within 180 days of being approved for a tax credit in order to receive it, though exceptions are being made in special circumstances. That means that Deadwood should start filming by the beginning of October.”

Still, I won’t be 100% convinced this is real until I actually sit down and watch it. Back in March of this year, Timothy Olyphant, who played rage-monster Seth Bullock on the series, was right there with me. The actor said, and I quote: “There’s no fucking way it will ever happen.” Olyphant went on to add:

“I am hopeful. I mean I’m … I’m… I’m a huge fan of David Milch. The man means the world to me. It’s one of the most amazing creative experiences I’ve ever been able to be apart of, and I’d love to be … you know when you do these things you really miss the people. It would just be a lovely excuse to get all those people back together…”

After Olyphant’s quote made the rounds, HBO released a statement of their own, claiming that despite Olyphant’s pessimism, the Deadwood movie really is going to happen:

“We are continuing to try and bring this group of actors together. With varying schedules, it is a challenge, but we are committed to finding a way and making the film.”

Olyphant has a role in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which is filming right now. One can only hope and assume he’ll have his scenes for that movie wrapped in time to start shooting the Deadwood movie in the fall.

Revealed just now at the Toys That Made Us panel at SDCC, the episode subjects for the upcoming season 3. There are some heavy-hitters here, and may turn out to be their best overall batch of episodes.

The panel began with a lively crowd cheering our heroes on the panel. Collectors have been wanting a show like this for so long, this panel felt like a victory lap of sorts. Every question during the Q&A was started or finished with “But how do we get more?” Hey, Netflix: you can make as many episodes of The Toys That Made Us as possible and it still would not be enough!

From there we were actually shown their presentation video they pitched to Netflix that had never been seen publicly before. It consisted of shots of toys from Star Wars and such from the first couple episodes, including interviews that were not aired. It ended with a hilarious montage of toys falling over and not being able to stand. It really goes to show that their sense of humor was a part of the concept from the beginning.

After some banter and questions about how they produced the episode came the main event: the announcement of the next four episode subject matters. In order as they appeared: Power Rangers (after swearing they would never do one during the panel), My Little Pony, Wrestling (old LJN figures were shown, hopefully it covers so much more), and the big one: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Those are four heavy hitters, but I have to say I am most excited for wrestling. Wrestling figures have a long, rich history in multiple countries, but for collectors LJN and Hasbro were two of the most beloved toy lines of all time. In-depth interviews on these two lines will warm my heart.

Oh, they also revealed how they will handle the theme song. Like Star Trek, this is no longer “an eight-part documentary series”. No, The Toys That Made us is now an ONGOING documentary series.

Hopefully forever.

Amazon Prime Day Launches Exclusive Cabin in the Woods Whisky Glass

by Rich Johnston

It’s Amazon Prime Day — a Black Friday that Amazon gets to have all for its very own self, as a way to get people on the Amazon Prime hook for TV and film streaming too. Though right now it appears to be acting like Comic-Con. An exclusive Transformers Nemesis Prime over here (get it?), and now…

An exclusive Cabin in the Woods whiskey glass. Pretend that you are one of the old ones, eagerly awaiting your sacrifice as dictated by the social and cultural mores of the people below you, as you swill your single malt back and forth, catching their screams in the glint of the dark amber waves within.

And then bring your hands smashing down upon it when the Fool finds a way to save the Virgin…

New Red Trailer for Assassination Nation Show Off the Violence

by Kaitlyn Booth

A Sundance movie is looking to make the jump to the mainstream audience with Assassination Nation. The movie, which is getting a Hall H panel at Comic-Con International, was one of the breakout hits of the festival this year and got picked up by Neon for a massive $10 million deal. The first red and green band trailers for the movie have hit and it still looks like a ton of fun.

If you’re curious our review of the Sundance screening is right here. It’s very positive but even without that there are plenty of reasons to get excited about this one.

Summary: High school senior Lily and her crew of besties live in a haze of texts, posts, selfies, and chats—just like the rest of us. So when a provocateur starts posting details from the private digital lives of everyone in their small town of Salem, the result is a Category 5 shitstorm. We’re talking browser histories, direct messages, illegal downloads, secret text chains, and way, way, way worse. People get angry. Like, “rampaging murder posse” angry. And Lily finds herself right in the middle.

Assassination Nation, directed by Sam Levinson, stars Odessa Young, Hari Nef, Suki Waterhouse, Abra, Colman Domingo, Bill Skarsgård, and Joel McHale. It will be released on September 21st in the USA and November 23rd in the UK.

Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg Will Work Together Again

by Chris Evangelista

Edgar Wright and Simon pegg

Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright have a long working history together, from the TV series Spaced to the Cornetto Trilogy. The duo haven’t teamed up since 2013’s The World’s End, but according to Pegg, it’s only a matter of time before they’re together again.

Pegg and Wright have come a long way since their first big movie together, 2004’s Shaun of the Dead. While they continued to work together with Hot Fuzz and The World’s End, their careers also branched off into different directions. Pegg joined both the Star Trek and Mission: Impossible franchise, and Wright helmed the surprise blockbuster Baby Driver.

So will we ever see a Edgar Wright/Simon Pegg film again? According to Pegg, the answer is yes. In a recent interview with Coming Soon, the actor says that the only reason the two haven’t worked together is due to timing and scheduling:

“Oh yeah, that’s like a given. The only reason we haven’t is just timing. Me and Edgar and Nick [Frost] are not colleagues, we’re friends. We go back a long time and we have a relationship that transcends work, but if only to hang with each other for an extended period we’ll make another film again. It’s just with our various commitments we have to find the time to write and make it. Me and Edgar talk about it all the time, and whenever we’re together we start brainstorming and we have certain ideas we want to develop. It’s just a question of ‘when,’ not ‘if.'”

This is very good news. While I’m fine with Pegg and Wright’s Cornetto Trilogy standing on its own, and while I think The World’s End was a perfect conclusion to said trilogy, I’d love to see them work together again. In addition to starring in the three entries of the Cornetto Trilogy, Pegg co-wrote those films with Wright. Wright directed Spaced, the British sitcom written by Pegg and Jessica Stevenson – a series that also featured Cornetto Trilogy cast member Nick Frost.

We’ll just have to be content with Pegg and Wright’s individual projects while we wait for them to reunite. Pegg will next be seen in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, hitting theaters July 27, 2018. Wright, meanwhile, is working on a documentary about the band Sparks. In addition to that, there’s a good chance Wright might be working on a Baby Driver sequel in the not too distant future.

Childish Gambino Goes Back in Time for 2 Summery New Songs

by Haley Rose-Lyon

This is not ‘This Is America’. Childish Gambino, aka rapper/singer/writer/actor/enigma Donald Glover, dropped two new songs on streaming services Wednesday morning that scream (or rather, leisurely utter) “summer vibes”. Which makes sense, since the tracks are called ‘Summertime Magic’ and ‘Feels Like Summer’, with the EP’s title being Summer Pack. Have you heard that it’s summer?

The two songs also bear a striking auditory resemblance to some of Gambino’s earlier work, sounding like they’d be right at home on his 2014 EP Kauai.

‘Summertime Magic’ is an instant earworm and absolutely radio-ready. This will no doubt take over every club in America by the end of the month. It’s sweet, melodic, and makes you want to move.

The second, ‘Feels Like Summer’, is a little less of a banger, but no less enjoyable for the ear-holes. Roll your windows down and put this bad boy on.

Those who know Gambino for ‘This Is America’ might be surprised by the sonic departure of these new tracks, but he’s never been afraid to experiment with his sound. In fact, some fans were disappointed with his most recent album, Awaken, My Love!, as it veered away so much from his rap-heavy earlier work and psycho-futuristic previous album Because the Internet. But no matter what Gambino does, even if it doesn’t land right away, it grows on you.

Unfortunately for Childish Gambino lovers, it looks like his next album will be his last. He announced as much last year at Governor’s Ball Music Festival in New York City, later telling HuffPost he’s retiring Childish Gambino because he doesn’t think it’s “necessary” anymore:

“There’s nothing worst than like a third sequel, like a third movie and we’re like, ‘again?’ You know, I like it when something’s good and when it comes back there’s a reason to come back, there’s a reason to do that.”

Speaking of movies, you might recognize Glover’s mug from this year’s Solo: A Star Wars Story as the aggressively charismatic young Lando Calrissian, or from last year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming as Aaron Davis (aka Miles Morales’s uncle, aka Prowler — well, not yet with that one). He’s also set to voice Simba in 2019’s The Lion King from director Jon Favreau.

Glover cleaned up with this year’s Emmy nominations too, announced this morning. He nabbed directing, writing, and lead acting noms for his FX series Atlanta, as well as for hosting SNL. Atlanta was also nominated for best comedy.

Samuel Jackson Shares His Nick Fury Business Card With the Internet – But What Do the Numbers Mean?

by Rich Johnston

Samuel Jackson has been playing Nick Fury again, in the nineties-set Captain Marvel movie. And now that the film is wrapped, he is sharing Nick Fury’s business cards with the internet, by posting to Facebook ‘Back to the familiar, the comfortable, the lovably fierce! Loving today’s mood! #Can’tkeepagoodmandown#deliriouslyfurious’.

It is possible however that these business cards won’t actually be seen on the screen…

What is it you say you mustn’t do with the Mouse?

That address. 525 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, is for the SGI-USA World Peace Ikeda Auditorium in Santa Monica, which does look like a possible nineties SHIELD base… and is a Buddhist event space. Would their philosophies be compatible with those of SHIELD?

Sadly the phone line on the business card since then has been disconnected. Does anyone have a fax machine on them?

The zip code however, is off for that location, however – but 90017 is in the ISBN code 978-1-302-90017-5 which is the code for Jim Starlin‘s Captain Marvel trade paperback. And appears to be the only Marvel title with that number in its ISBN.

Man, they went deep with this one.

Jackson is a sharing man, and also showed off his cast and crew hoodie recently that backs up his business cards…

Captain Marvel is scheduled to be released in the United States and the UK on March 8th 2019. The film is written and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, with Meg LeFauve, Nicole Perlman, Geneva Robertson-Dworet, Liz Flahive, and Carly Mensch also contributing to the screenplay.

Brie Larson stars as Carol Danvers, alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, Mckenna Grace, Clark Gregg and Jude Law.

Set in the 1990s, the story borrows elements from the 1971 “Kree–Skrull War” comic book storyline. and follows Danvers as she becomes Captain Marvel after the Earth is caught in the centre of an intergalactic conflict between two alien worlds.

I am great in an emergency.

People with anxiety can be good to have around in an emergency. Since anxious people are often waiting for something to go wrong, they’re also more vigilant about monitoring their surroundings. This makes them faster at detecting and reacting to threats, and they’re much more likely to warn others without delay. Source

Idris Elba Is in Final Negotiations to Star as the Villain in Hobbs and Shaw

by Kaitlyn Booth

The cast for the Fast and Furious spin-off movie continues to grow. A few days ago a report surfaced that Vanessa Kirby was in final talks to join the cast and today Variety is reporting that Idris Elba is in final talks to join the cast as the villain.

Editorial credit: Debby Wong / Shutterstock.com

At the moment we don’t know anything about this movie aside from the fact that it’ll have the two characters played by Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham teaming up. Johnson has become a major talent since joining the series and rumors of a feud between Johnson and Vin Diesel means Universal Pictures is looking for a way to keep both men happy.

Production for Hobbs and Shaw is set to start production this September, it’ll be directed by David Leitch, and it has a release date of July 26th, 2019. The Fast and Furious series has made $5.1 billion in the worldwide box office and has been keeping the lights on at Universal Pictures since 2001.

Workaholics’ Adam Devine Joins Danny McBride’s Televangelism Comedy Pilot for HBO

by Ray Flook

Workaholics star Adam Devine is set to find some of that old-time religion, joining Danny McBride (Vice Principals), John Goodman (The Big Lebowski, The Connors), and Edi Patterson (The Last O.G.) in the HBO comedy pilot The Righteous Gemstones.

Written, directed, starring, and executive produced by McBride, the half-hour comedy series is based in and around the the world of televangelism, telling the story of the world famous Gemstone televangelist family. The family has a long tradition of deviance, greed, and charitable work — all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jody Hill and David Gordon Green are also set to executive produce the project.

Devine’s Kelvin Gemstone is the youngest son of Eli (Goodman) and Amy Leigh, and he’s known as “the edgy one.” He finds himself in the middle of the giant personalities that are Jesse (McBride) and Judy Gemstone (Patterson) and has branded himself an outsider to the church, feeling his methods are too hardcore for mainstream religion. Kelvin doesn’t have bigger ambitions for the head seat at the table but focuses his efforts on the eradication of Satan and dark forces from everyday life.

Goodman’s family patriarch Eli Gemstone is an unbending force in the ministry game. He’s known the world over for his aggressive salvation techniques, his worldwide ministries, and his award-winning weekly television program. McBride’s Jesse Gemstone is the eldest son and heir to the throne who“walks in his father’s shadow while simultaneously blazing his own path. Like his father Eli, Jesse demands loyalty from those in his circle and surrounds himself by those that will follow him. Patterson’s Judy isn’t offered the same opportunities within the church as Jesse and Kelvin because she’s a woman, leaving her resentful and longing for the day when she can stand on stage with her family on Sunday mornings.

HBO is hoping the third time’s the charm, with The Righteous Gemstones marking the cable giants third collaboration with McBride, Hill, and Green. Having recently ended its two-season run, comedy series Vice Principals also starred McBride. Prior to that, the trio worked on baseball comedy series Eastbound & Down, which aired for four seasons and wrapped up in 2013.

Co-creating and co-starring in hit Comedy Central series Workaholics, Devine has also appeared as a recurring character on ABC’s hit sitcom Modern Family. On the big screen, the actor’s appeared in the first two Pitch Perfect movies, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Game Over, Man!, and When We First Met.
