Most of us are too young to remember when TV sets were made in wooden cabinets that basically were a standalone piece of furniture. While this was popular in the 1950s and 1960s, it largely died out by the mid 1970s. If you love the style of these classic televisions, but want today’s tech, check out this TV from Japanese electronics company Doshisha.
This ’50s-style TV has a wooden cabinet, real working volume and channel knobs on front, and stands on spindly wooden legs. While its facade looks a bit like the cool, but fragile Bakelite of the era, I’m betting it’s just cheap plastic that’s been colored that way. Inside, it’s got a 20″ LCD screen with HDMI, AV and USB inputs.
Sadly, the TV tuner won’t work outside of Japan though. Since the screen is flat, there’s also plenty of space inside for storing a video game console, discs, or other accessories.
You can order one from Japan Trend Shop for the exorbitant price of $791, or over on Amazon Japan for ¥54,880 (~$516 USD) if you’re willing to deal with the hassle of ordering one directly from Japan. I love the design of this, but I think it would be way cheaper to buy an old TV cabinet, rip out the electronics, and retrofit it with a cheap modern TV.
Here’s the perfect Christmas gift for fans of Firefly. It’s Malcolm Reynolds’ holster and gun belt from the show. I mean it’s not the actual one from the show, but you know what I mean. This replica is made of real leather with metal details and comes in multiple sizes.
It can hold one gun, which naturally isn’t included. You’ll need a suitably western looking gun to finish the kit. The holster is said to be screen accurate and looks really old even though it is new.
The gun belt and holster is $109.99(USD) and available in sm/m, l/xl, and 2X sizes. Pick one up at ThinkGeek now.
Michael „Jim“ Delligatti ist im Alter von stolzen 98 Jahren gestorben. Der Mann hat vor 50 Jahren le Big Mac erfunden und der Rest ist Geschichte. R.I.P. Jim und danke für die ganzen Burgers.
His death was confirmed by a spokeswoman for McDonald's, who told the Associated Press Delligatti passed away surrounded by his family. Delligatti introduced fast food lovers to the concept of a double burger sandwiched between three slices of bread with special sauce, lettuce, pickles and onions from his franchise in Uniontown, Pittsburgh.
His invention was initially dismissed by the chain but he pushed to have it brought in across the board, believing that what fast food was missing was “a big sandwich”.

Many of us would rather play our treasured games over and over again for the pure enjoyment that gaming brings. But there are a few of us who recognise the potential investment that buying a game could be.
Fortunately, Co-op Insurance has taken a look into the value of vintage games, consoles and toys to see how much you could make (or have made) by selling them at today’s value. It might provide you with some tips on which games you should play until they are completely worn out or take care of and possibly sell down the line.

When it comes to consoles, it largely will depend on the console. In many cases for now you’re probably better off continuing to use and enjoy playing them.
A Gameboy colour kept in mint condition would only be worth £30 while a Sega Genesis Megadrive would be worth around £40. Back in the 1990’s these would have been bought for £60 and £150 respectively. So if you decided to sell them on now you’d be making a loss of £140.
Even trying to sell classic game consoles from the 70’s like Atari’s Pong would mean that you’d be making a loss of £10.
However, there are exceptions to the rule of course. Limited edition versions of these consoles with special branding or in unique colours will dramatically push the value up.
The actual games however, are a different story. Certain games are much harder to come by and may be considered as desirable by collectors. Pokémon Blue on Gameboy colour is currently selling for over £600 on amazon if kept in its original packaging. Even when adjusted to today’s rate of inflation, used Pokémon Gameboy cartridges are selling for more than their original value if kept in a good and most importantly still playable condition.
Like limited edition consoles, limited edition games will also increase the rarity and value of a game. Super rare games can sell for thousands, let alone hundreds. The famous and incredibly sought after NES game, Stadium Events, has sold for £23,000 on eBay, which only increased in value as it was in its factory sealed condition.
If you want to find out how much some of your old consoles or toys may be worth in today’s prices you can use the Toys will be Toy$ app by clicking here.
With 2017 fast-approaching, we like to take a step back and look at gaming trends from the year that was. To that end, we've compiled a list of the 20 most read stories on GameSpot from January through the end of November. While it was impossible to explore the internet and not hear about Pokemon Go at some point or to read all of the leaked console speculation leading into E3, our list is just as interesting for what it doesn't include. 1) Sony Responds to Microsoft's Invite to Connect Xbox One and PS4 Networks
While it still hasn't come to fruition, by far the most popular story on GameSpot this year was about PS4 an Xbox One working together. After Microsoft publicly invited other platform holders to break down the console walls and allow multiplayer games to communicate freely, Sony's response was more than a little vague. While some PS4 games like Rocket League allow cross-play between PS4 and console, and Microsoft has an entire initiative built around allowing gamers to buy a game once and play it on both PC and Xbox One, it seems like we're still a long way off from firing up a round of Overwatch or Call of Duty and playing with our friends on an opposing console.

Some of the questions revolve around what it is like to develop games for the Switch, and other questions are rather random. Out of the last couple of Famicom games I picked up, this was the most playable, until the 2nd stage at least…. This is the Famicom Impression of Pooyan プーヤン (HFC-PO) released by Konami in 1985. An arcade-like platform game. It was I think an arcade game before it was ported to console.
You can really tell the difference between games released in the more than 10 year span of the Famicom’s lifetime. This one is from 1985, and the Dragon Ball Z game I made an impression of yesterday is from 1993. Just compare the graphics! And this is Konami, which has given us amazing things such as Castlevania, TMNT, Parodius, Contra, Crisis Force and many more.. most of these games are from the very late 80’s to the early 90’s though.
So basically the game is about shooting the balloons that hold the wolves so that they fall to their death instead of climbing up the ladder to eat you and your family alive. Fairly easy concept, but there’s loads of wolves coming down simulateously, and eventually they get different colored balloons, some will shoot back at you so you have to dodge as well. Once I got to stage two though I got stuck. HOW THE HELL DO YOU SHOOT THE BALLOON OF THE PINK WOLF?!?!? As you can see in the video below the pink wolves block every single arrow I shoot at them! >_< Since I couldn’t kill them 5 new enemies spawned every time I let one slip, and there was always a new pink one there! It was destined to fail..
Apart from that no Japanese language is needed to play this game, it’s not the best game on the Famicom, but certainly not the worst, however I’m fairly sure it’s the worst Konami game every made >-<

Do you remember way back when we first reported the possibility of Nintendo collaborating with Universal Studios? Well, good news, Nintendo fans! Nintendo has released an announcement envisioning what a Nintendo influenced area at Universal Studios would entail. We don't know too many details yet, but we know the park will have several goals, listed below.
"[The Goal] is to bring the characters, action and adventure of Nintendo video games to life within Universal theme parks. And to do so in new and innovative ways that capture what makes them so special. All of the adventure, fun and whimsy you experience through a screen will now be all around you – in breathtakingly authentic ways..."

The Japanese city of Beppu is known for its countless hot springs and spas that pop up around them. So much so, that the city’s mayor, Yasuhiro Nagano, pledged to build an entire spa-themed amusement park—although it might not be quite as awesome as the one featured in this promotional video.

Ubisoft has set Rayman Classic [Free] to free on iOS and Android, but this isn't just a Black Friday sale. This is a permanent move to free, with the game now being free with ads. And unfortunately, Ubisoft has neglected to make the game not display ads for people that already owned the game. The IAP to remove ads is only $0.99, but still – this is poor behavior.
We saw this exact kind of circumstance earlier this year with Sonic CD [Free] going free with ads but not removing them for those who bought the app previously, though it wound up that it was just an honest mistake fixed within 24 hours. One would think given the outcry that Ubisoft would have been careful with Rayman Classic but as George Santayana said, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
