10 hidden gems in Dropbox Paper

by Rod Begbie

More than a doc, Dropbox Paper is a flexible workspace that brings people and ideas together. While it’s a snap to get started, power users can get even more out of Paper using a few extra tools. Here are 10 hidden features we built for people who want to go beyond the basics.

1. Add some highlights

Suppose you’ve created a long doc, but you’d like to draw your team’s attention to just a few key phrases. You can use keyboard shortcuts to highlight specific text and save time (cmd-E on Mac, cntrl-E on Windows).

2. Link without all the fuss

Need to add a link? Just paste a URL directly over text, and Paper will automatically hyperlink the words…no need to complete a form or click to insert.

3. Connect docs on the fly

Creating a master doc as a hub for other docs? Type + at any time to create new docs on the fly. Already made the related docs? Type +, then search for the title of an existing doc to link to it.

4. Count your emoji (or words, or characters)

Who says word count is the only stat that matters? Click the three dots in the upper right, select word count, then see the number of emoji in the doc. (You can check total words, selected words, and characters too.)

5. Search with a personal touch

Maybe you know Kate sent you a few docs, but you’re having trouble finding them. Type Kate’s email in Paper’s search bar to find all publicly viewable docs associated with her.

6. Skip a step with screenshots

Have a screenshot or other image on your clipboard? No need to find the file or even drag and drop. You can simply paste (command-v on Mac, control-v on PC) right into a Paper doc, then see the whole image.

7. Drag, drop, and reorder images

Have the images you need, but want to play around with how things look? Drag and drop any image, and Paper will smartly snap everything into place.

8. Give credit where it’s due

Maybe you want to start a fresh doc on v3 of an upcoming press release, but your team still wants context on who wrote what. Simply copy the text, paste into a new doc, and Paper will keep all the same attributions in the left-hand margin.

9. Find what you’re looking for

Trying to navigate a giant design doc with dozens of sections and sub-headings? You can always check the table of contents by hovering your mouse on the left side of the doc. It’s automatically generated and based on your text formatting. Jump to any section with one click.

10. Bring the whole team together

Want to share more information across the company? Start by sharing a folder with your whole organization, then add docs—each will automatically be discoverable for all employees. Your co-workers can add docs too, helping your team quickly crowd-source an internal knowledge base.

Zelda: Breath Of the Wild - How To Dye Your Clothes

by Matt Espineli

Unlike previous games in the series, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild allows you to change the color of your clothing. To do so, you need to talk to Sayge, the manager of Kochi Dye Shop in Hateno Village. Below you can find details on where to find him and what you need to do in order to dye your clothes.

For more on Breath of the Wild, check out our full review of Breath of the Wild, our guide roundup, or our feature detailing everything you need to know about it.

How To Dye Your Clothes

After passing through the Hateno Village entrance, you'll notice a row of shops that line the main path. The second building on your right is Kochi Dye Shop, which you can see in detail in the image below. You can also check out its precise map location in the accompanying gallery.

Enter the shop to talk to Sayge, who allows you to dye your clothes various colors for the cost of 20 rupees. However, to successfully change your clothing color, you need five items that share in the dye color you wish to use. These can be any materials you find out in the wild. For example, items like the Bokoblin Horn and Moblin Fang can be used to dye your clothes grey.

Keep in mind the shopkeeper dyes your entire outfit the color you choose, so it's best to mix and match what you want colored or remove what you don't want colored for more efficient use of your hard-earned money. In addition, make sure to check how your different armor sets are affected by the dying process, as you might not like how a certain color highlight its details.

Regardless, if you change your mind about the colors you choose, you can always ask Sayge to revert the pieces back to their original color scheme for another 20 rupees.

Test: 1-2-Switch!

The First Large-Scale 'Fire Emblem Heroes' Event Is Live

by Tasos Lazarides

Fire Emblem Heroes [Free] is giving you another reason to play the game this week by launching its first large-scale event called Prince Versus Princess Voting Gauntlet. In this event, eight princess and princesses - Alfonse, Sharena, Ephraim, Eirika, Chrom, Lucina, Leo, and Elise - will fight it out to see who will prevail in popularity. You first pick one of those eight characters and then go on to command teams of three. While the Voting Gauntlet is active, you'll have a new log-in bonus and new special quests that will grant you Battle Flags for the Voting Gauntlet. The event will be fought over three rounds, each lasting 45 hours.

You won't be able to see how many points each army has until you join, and once you join, you can't join another Hero's army unless the army you originally joined loses. The battles will be 3-on-3 with your army consisting of the Hero you picked, a friend, and a random player who's chosen the same army as you. If you win the battle, you cast a vote. While the event is live, there are two new focuses, one for princes and one for princesses. The event will run until the 12th, so start fighting.

Nintendo Hopes Switch Will Get You Playing Miitomo Again

by Chris Pereira

Following months of anticipation, Switch is finally out, and Nintendo is hoping to capitalize on the hype by getting you to pick up Miitomo again.

A new promotion is now underway in Nintendo's social networking app that rewards users with various Switch items. Between now and March 23, logging in will net you a different item each day, for a total of five items. These include a stamp set, wallpaper, t-shirt, flooring, and a visor that puts the system right in front of your face.

No Caption Provided
Gallery image 1Gallery image 2Gallery image 3Gallery image 4Gallery image 5

You can see all of the stamps in the gallery above. There are the obvious ones--the system itself, Joy-Cons, a logo--but no Pro Controller or anything else that doesn't come in the box.

Miitomo launched last spring as Nintendo's first mobile app. In October, Nintendo admitted that it hadn't made much money, although that arguably was never the goal. It wants its mobile business to be profitable, but it also hopes for it to generate "synergy with our dedicated video game systems to maximize the potential of Nintendo's overall business strategies."

With Fire Emblem Heroes having launched last month, the next confirmed mobile game from Nintendo is one based on Animal Crossing.

Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers Are Sold Out Seemingly Everywhere

by Chris Pereira

If you're looking to pick up additional controllers for your new Nintendo Switch, the Pro Controller may not be an option right now--at least not without paying a premium.

In a move that we perhaps should have seen coming, the $70 Pro Controller is sold out at numerous retailers in the US. Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, Walmart, and Target all list the controller as being sold out on their respective websites (or only available in stores, where your miles may vary).

No Caption Provided

Amazon and Walmart both allow third-parties to sell items, so you can pick up the controller from resellers on those sites for anywhere from $90-$120. EBay is, of course, also filled with controllers being sold by those who were fortunate enough to get their hands on one, with the going price in the $80-$100 range.

In the months before launch, preorders for the Pro Controller were hard to come by. We reported back in January how, when it went up for sale on Amazon, preorders sold out in less than half an hour. The same thing then happened at GameStop.

Now, with the system out, the controller isn't proving any easier to find. The system itself is also routinely selling out at many major retialers, though we've already seen some offer additional stock since launch on Friday.

Still, that a new game system would be sold out is no real surprise, particularly in light of the NES Classic Edition supply issues which persist almost four months after launch. The Pro Controller is very nice, features excellent battery life, and reportedly even works with PCs. But for a controller to be so hard to come by--particularly when the system essentially ships with two--is awfully strange.

We've reached out to Nintendo to see when more Pro Controllers can be expected, and we'll report back with any information we received.

Joy-Con Comfort vs Kotaku's Hands

„An Android Review for iOS Users“

by Alex Olma

I’ll spoil the ending right here: Android apps are far behind what is available on iOS. The best Android apps feel like they are on par with iOS apps from 2010. The apps I have been recommended to try out would be laughed out of the room if they were on iOS. Yes, most iPhone apps have either an Android version of themselves or a similar equivalent, but every single one of those Android versions are worse than their iOS counterparts. Every. Single. One.

Matt Birchler

Nintendo Switch Sells 80,000 Units in 48 Hours in the UK

by William D'Angelo

The Nintendo Switch sold 80,000 units in its first 48 hours on sale in the UK, according to GamesIndustry. That is double what the Wii U sold in 2013, however, it is below the 113,000 units the 3DS sold.

The figure is  below the 105,000 units the Wii sold in its first week and below the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which sold sold 250,000 units and 150,000 units, respectively.

Here is how the Switch stacks up against other Nintendo UK launches:

  • Nintendo 3DS - 113,000
  • Nintendo Wii - 105,000
  • Nintendo DS - 87,000
  • Nintendo Switch - 80,000
  • Nintendo GameCube - 69,000
  • Game Boy Advance - 67,000
  • Nintendo Wii U - 40,000

GameStop: Switch is One of the Most Successful Console Launches in Years

by William D'Angelo

The launch of the Nintendo Switch has been the most successful console launch at retailer GameStop in the last several years.

"Stores across the country last night were packed with customers who couldn’t wait to get their hands on the brand new Nintendo Switch," said GameStop Senior Director of Merchandising Eric Bright told Game Rant. "We even had customers lining up as early as yesterday morning so that they could be one of the lucky ones to score one of the additional units for our walk-in customers.

"This is one of the strongest and most successful gaming console launches for GameStop in the last several years. For those fans who are still looking for the Nintendo Switch, don’t worry–we’re getting more. And, we’re pretty sure that there are a lot of gaming fans who pulled all-nighters last night playing their new Switch, and who also called in sick to work today with ‘game-fluenza’ just to stay home and play even more."

The Nintendo Switch sold 80,000 units in its first 48 hours in the UK.
