A special note to "Something Beautiful" subscribers ....

by Cindy La Ferle
Something Beautiful Every Day began last spring as a personal challenge to share something positive -- every day for one year -- with my friends and family. It's hard to believe that the project ends this month, on March 23.

Last spring, I was struggling to find something lovely or positive to focus on. The constant stream of negative news in my social media feeds and on television was breaking my heart and soul. In the midst of it all, I was also grieving the loss of my mother.

So I started carrying my camera everywhere. I scouted for beauty in my neighbors' gardens, the local farmers' markets, my kitchen drawers, my bookshelves, my husband's art studio -- and everywhere I traveled. In retrospect, my growing passion for photography became a tribute to my mother, whose work as a photographic color artist sparked my interest in the medium years ago. My mother was a visual arts person, always expressing her creativity by making her surroundings beautiful.

In other words, Something Beautiful Every Day helped me view my world with fresh eyes again.

Since its launch last March, the blog has earned more than 83,000 page visits from viewers in several countries. Heartfelt thanks go out to all of you who took time to email me whenever a particular post hit home or touched your heart. I've especially enjoyed reading your different interpretations of the quotes and the photos.

After a break, I plan to start another photo blog, or I might put a new spin on Something Beautiful Every Day. (I've got lots of new ideas up my sleeve!) If you keep your subscription, you'll receive a notice when the new blog begins. This blog will remain live, so you can see all 365 posts any time.

All subscribers will receive a link enabling them to view a special video of the project on the last day. Produced and created by Detroit journalist and videographer John S. Schultz, the video combines music with favorite quotes and images from the past year.  I look forward to sharing this gift with you on March 24.

Meanwhile, I'll keep posting photos and quotes through March 23.

One final note before I sign off. If you enjoy taking photographs as much as I do, I think you'll be touched and inspired by Boyce Avenue's beautiful acoustic cover of Ed Sheeran's "Photograph" on YouTube

Gratefully,
