Black Panthers Rally For Trayvon Martin Brings Only Three People

by Patrick Frye

Black Panthers Rally For Trayvon Martin Brings Only Three People

A Black Panthers rally for Trayvon Martin drew a “crowd” of only three people.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, the Black Panthers bounty for George Zimmerman resurfaced recently.

The New Black Panther Party’s bounty is a $10,000 reward for a “dead or alive” capture of George Zimmerman:

“We’re going to force our government to do their job properly, and if they don’t we will. We’re saying to President Obama, you gotta do your job on this one buddy… So white America, we have given you 400 years to get it right and you still have failed black people. We’re not even citizens in this country. We’re still third class citizens. Today as black men, we must stand up. We must say to white America, ‘Your time is up.’”

The New Black Panther party also set up camp near the George Edgecomb Courthouse courthouse in Tampa to organize a Justice For Trayvon Martin rally. The New Black Panthers feel the judicial system is broken and the George Zimmerman trial was really about racial equality under the law.

But the New Black Panther rally only drew the attention of three people at its supposed peak. The New Black Panthers party is planning “rallies and street maneuvers” for September 7 in New York City since “Obama has silenced civil rights leaders.” The Black Panthers claim they will “shut down New York and make our point on September 7th.”

and to all speak up for massive September 7th Million Youth March- "Millions for Trayvon" rally which will flood Harlem N) September 7th

— NewBlackPantherParty (@NewBlackPanthr1) July 18, 2013

Another New Black Panthers rumor stated they were organizing Trayvon Riots in Florida by “busing mobs to Sanford,” the county where Trayvon Martin was killed.

What do you think about the New Black Panthers party’s plans for Trayvon Martin rallies?

Brothers Murdered Over ‘Free Zimmerman’ Sticker, Critics Cry Hate Crime Cover-Up

by Dusten Carlson

hate crime

Jacksonville, FL – Two brothers were allegedly murdered over a “Free Zimmerman” bumper sticker on one of their trucks last weekend. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is being accused of covering up a hate crime after they denied that the brothers’ Sunday night murder was related to the Trayvon Martin trial.

At around 8:45pm Sunday night, 24-year-old Andrew Austin Bohannon and 19-year-old Matthew Ryan Bohannon were sitting in their truck in a Golden Corral parking lot when they were approached by another car with multiple occupants inside.

After “some type of conversation” between the two parties, multiple shots were fired at the Bohannons. One was killed instantly, and the other was pronounced dead shortly after at a local hospital.

This week, rumors began to spread that the murders were a retaliation over the Trayvon Martin verdict. On Saturday night, George Zimmerman was found “not guilty” of second degree murder in the controversial case.

The two brothers had a “Free Zimmerman” sticker on their truck.

The Sheriff’s Office has denied a link between the murders and the Zimmerman trial, saying in a statement:

“We are confident to say where we are in the investigation that this is not the case at all. There is NO link at all between these cases, nor did we ever suspect one.”

As the story has slowly spread through social media this week, many critics have charged the JSO with covering up a hate crime.

“Nice way to try to cover up a hate crime JSO. Unfortunately the public knows better,” wrote one Facebook user.

“Definitely had to do with the Zimmerman case,” opined another.

The unknown shooters are still at large.

What do you think? Were the Bohannonn brothers murdered over their “Free Zimmerman” sticker in some sort of retaliation killing? We’ll keep an eye on this story and report on further developments.

Lego Slippers

by Craziest Gadgets Jeff

lego slippers Lego Slippers
The title is misleading! These are not actually Lego slippers (nor are they the droids you are looking for) but they are Building Brick Slippers Lego Slippers. Same difference. Now you can’t actually stick any bricks onto these unless you happen to live in some alternate universe where the blocks are huge and made of soft polyester. But you can have comfy feet and protection against stepping on a wayward Lego piece on your floor (why does that hurt so much?!). Comes in red or blue, one size fits most.

Horrible Histories Explains the Space Race in Four Minutes

Tuesday was a sad day for those of us who live at the intersection of the Venn diagram "Lovers of sketch comedy" and "history nerds" because CBBC's Horrible Histories aired its very last episode. But before they went, they took the time to speed-talk their way through the Space Race.

2nd Oldest Live Cam On The Web Is Still Streaming (Fish)

fishcam.jpg In 1994 employees at an unheard of company called Netscape pointed a live camera at a fishtank and streamed the shots to the web. And now, 19 years later, the feed is still live. Netscape Navigator? DEAD IN THE WATER. I remember the first time I came home from middle school to discover one of my fish had died. The other fish in the tank had picked his bones clean LIKE A BUNCH OF SAVAGES. I tapped on the glass so hard that afternoon. Chrome app launcher for Windows out of beta: why you want it

by Chris Burns

This week the folks at Google appear to have released the full version of the “Chrome App Launcher” for Windows machines. Though you’ll only be able to work with this app on Windows 7 and Windows 8 – not RT at the moment – you’ll find the functionality to be – perhaps – a bit liberating if you’re used to working with Google services on the regular. While this isn’t a return to the Start button, by any means, Google does make it easy here to keep you in the fold.

appshortcuts-580x318

If you’ve used Google’s Chrome operating system, you should be well familiar with the abilities of this app. What it does for Windows is offer up a pocket – more than just a folder, as it were, of access for apps inside a Google Chrome web browser. You will need the internet to access most of these apps, while we’re expecting offline support for bits and pieces as Chrome OS has.

ABOVE: Chrome app launcher as it exists in Chrome OS – essentially the same as it looks in Windows 7 and Windows 8. You can learn more about Chrome OS and the devices it runs on natively in our SlashGear 101: Google Chromebook from all the way back in 2011. Then get an updated look through our recent

And yes, if you’ve heard the rumors but haven’t ever used Chrome OS, you can indeed work offline with Chrome OS devices.

As a tip to Engadget suggests and our own tests confirm, you can indeed download and use the app launcher working with Windows starting today. Out of Beta mode, that is.

For those of you working with OS X or Linux – you too can use the system, but you’re still in Beta. The difference between out-of-beta and Beta modes is slight, essentially circling around a guarantee from Google that everything is in working order. Make with the clicking!

America is only on turn 100, no wonder their gold is in the shitter

We Love Detroit, Even If You Don'tDetroit is bankrupt. Does it hurt to write those words? Honestly, it doesn't. It hurts as much as ripping a Band-Aid off. Detroit is bankrupt. Detroit is bankrupt. Detroit is bankrupt. I can say it a million times, but the emotional effects are minimal. Call it being jaded, or maybe just putting your head in the sand. But after withstanding so much, can it really get any worse?

June 2013 NPD: The Last of Us leads a strong month

by Ozzie Mejia
D G

Minecraft....really....console plebs

The Last of Us took the top position on the NPD charts. Animal Crossing: New Leaf finished with a solid second place, while the retail version of Minecraft on Xbox 360 surprisingly wound up with the third spot. NPD's Liam Callahan sees Minecraft's strong opening as an indicator that "digital products can reach a new market when launching a physical disc. While many have downloaded the game, these sales indicate that there are plenty of consumers willing to buy a physical disc who are either not connected to the internet, don’t have a credit card to purchase digital games online, or simply prefer the physical disk over digital copies."

Naughty Dog's survival horror game proves to be a crowning achievement for Sony, as The Last of Us had the second highest first-month sales for a PS3 first-party title since God of War 3 in March 2010. It's also achieved the third highest launch in the month of June since NPD first started tracking sales in 1995. June proved a stronger month overall than last year, with 90 percent more unit sales sold than in June 2012.

On the other end of the spectrum is Deadpool, which launched to a disappointing 8th place finish. Hardly surprising given the troubles that High Moon has faced, along with some lukewarm reviews.

Following up on last month's big story, the Nintendo 3DS maintained the top spot for overall hardware sales, while the Xbox 360 remained the highest selling console. Another console contender entered the market, but the Android-powered Ouya didn't make many waves in the retail space. Callahan attributes light Ouya sales to the lack of a marquee title, low consumer awareness, and low inventory volume.

Here's the chart:

Top 10 Games (New Physical Retail only; new releases bolded)

  • The Last of Us (PS3)
  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS)
  • Minecraft (360)
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops II (360, PS3, PC, Wii U)
  • NBA 2K13 (360, PS3, Wii, Wii U, PSP, PC)
  • Injustice: Gods Among Us (360, PS3, Wii U)
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns (3DS, Wii)
  • Deadpool (360, PS3)
  • Battlefield 3 (360, PS3, PC)
  • Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS)

Once again, be mindful that "these sales figures represent new physical retail sales of hardware, software and accessories, which account for roughly 50 percent of the total consumer spend on games."

Oculus Rift smartphone support may be on the way

by Craig Lloyd

portable VR crack...now we're talking

A fews days after discussing possible price points and business models for the Oculus Rift, the company is now thinking about what devices that the VR headset will integrate with besides PCs. CEO Brendan Iribe sees the Oculus Rift has working perfectly with smartphones, and he also noted that the headset would release at some point next year, most likely.

IMG_3506wtmk-w1024-580x4351

Speaking with Edge, Iribe said that consoles aren’t a huge focus for the company, and instead have a lot of interest in “next-gen cellphones.” He notes that it has mostly to do with innovation and the upgrade cycle of products, noting that smartphones advance much faster than consoles, and that could match up nicely with the Oculus Rift’s plans to innovate just as quickly.

Iribe notes that he loves consoles, but the company specifically is “a lot more excited about where mobile’s going to go, and being able to plug it right into a next-gen cellphone.” He points out that smartphone innovation is “almost doubling every year, compared to a console that’s just stuck it out for eight years.”

IMG_3508wtmk-w1024-580x4351

As for Oculus Rift competitors, Iribe says bring it on, as it’ll speed up development and innovation for virtual reality. He notes that Oculus Rift is just one year in, and there are a lot of problems that still need to be tackled. With other virtual reality developers out there, VR could see faster innovation, and Iribe wonders what we’ll see in eight to ten years.

As for the 2014 release window, Iribe says that the Oculus Rift definitely won’t launch this year, but 2014 seems more like a feasible deadline. Obviously, a specific release date isn’t set yet, but the company wants to get the headset right before they send it out the public, and a 2014 launch window would give them enough time to complete it.
