Costume Inspiration for The True Sartorialist

by The Sartorialist

1030velma_sasha1030madeline_590What I love about these shots is that neither of them feel like a costume-yet the resemblance is just too good! You can’t not see it once you do.

Click through the archives and see if you can find some costume ideas from the many years of inspiration

Leap of Faith

Photograph by Nicole Cambr

A migrating wildebeest leaps into the low waters of the Mara River in Tanzania. Wildebeests begin their annual migration at the edge of the Serengeti Plains. On their enormous loop following seasonal rains, the more than 1.5 million animals encounter deadly crossings like this one at the Mara, infamous home of the giant Nile crocodile.

W Magazine Rank their 100 Best Supermodel Covers

W Magazine is never short of beautiful women to grace their pages. But besides great singers and actresses, they’ve gone back to their high-fashion roots by recently digging up and ranking their 100 best supermodel covers from their archive. Unsurprisingly, Kate Moss reigned as the queen with the most covers, which include those of the first generation of supermodels like Christy Turlington, Claudia Schiffer, and Cindy Crawford, to the newer but equally legendary faces like Karen Elson, Lara Stone, Naomi Campbell, Daria Werbowy, Natalia Vodianova, and Gisele Bundchen. Our favorite cover is Bruce Weber’s “Summer Camp” — See our other favorites above and all 100 covers here.

Picture of a herd of elephants on the Serengeti, Tanzania

Near and Far

Photograph by Yaron Shmid

Elephants appear to patrol the Serengeti in this picture taken in Tanzania. A recent study found that ivory-seeking poachers have killed 100,000 African elephants in just three years. During 2011 alone, roughly one of every twelve African elephants was killed by a poacher. Demand for ivory, most notably in China and elsewhere in Asia, has helped keep black market prices high.
