New York City menus get salted with sodium symbols

That's the recommended daily limit of milligrams of sodium a person should ingest. And starting Monday, New York City restaurants will be required to display a special symbol next to dishes that have more than that amount. As the Associated Press reports, it's estimated that the new rule applies to 10 percent of items at chain restaurants with at least 15 outlets nationwide.

That's how much Puerto Rico owes on Tuesday as part of ongoing troubles with repaying its tremendous debt. The commonwealth already defaulted on a debt payment of almost $60 million in August. Now, the government warns that making Tuesday's deadline would mean cutting government services — a move that Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla has said he's unwilling to make. But economists warn that missing this week's payment could mean much more serious problems for Puerto Rico.

While no credit card information was stolen, the personal information and passwords of many customers was taken in the hack. And as the BBC reports, it's particularly troubling that the names, genders, and birthdates of many children were part of the information stolen.

Navigating the unwritten rules of the workplace
None!totally had a raised tone at some guy in my office this morning for being a dick with hoteling.
There are all sorts of unwritten rules about how to behave in the workplace, rules that you usually only learn from — often embarrassing — experience.
Or, you could read Ross McCammon's book, Works Well with Others, a guide to navigating workplace culture without enduring the embarrassing experiences that come before. He came into the Marketplace's New York bureau recently to share what he learned about office life.
Unwritten Rules of the Workplace:
1. You should screw up
"For me, the first thing I did as an employee at Esquire was I went to the men's room, as one does, and I saw what I assumed was a fellow employee there, and I said, "Hi. I'm Ross." And I reached out to shake his hand, and at that moment, we both looked at each other and thought, "Is this really happening?" There's an unwritten rule in the workplace, and it's that you don't shake hands in the restroom. That was my first official social act, and that was a screw up."
"I no longer cringe about it but there are other things that we do. We screw up at our jobs and I think that's another thing we should allow ourselves to do because if you're not screwing up early on, you're probably overqualified."
2. Leave the office holiday party before you think you want to
"What's weird about the holiday party, is that you have to look at it as it's still the office. It's not like the rules of office politics don't apply in that situation. The first thing you do when you go in there is you say hi to the boss. Because what you want to do, what you want to have the option of is leaving whenever you want to. That's the key. Don't drink too much, but also leave before you think you want to. And when you leave, just leave."
An excerpt from Works Well with Others:
How to Shut Up
At Esquire, there is a production meeting each week where the editors and designers are supposed to discuss the status of projects. The point of the meeting is to have a weekly milepost where you know you will have to answer for your work. Your answers should mostly be “Yes” and “Wednesday” and “Looking good.” I did not understand that my first few months at Esquire. I thought I was supposed to answer questions truthfully and expansively. So in response to “How’s that story coming?” I would explain and apologize and answer questions that hadn’t been asked. I would bore everyone in the room. I didn’t know I was supposed to say, “It’s great,” and then I was supposed to shut up.
This is how to talk in a meeting.

That's the going rate for an Amazon Prime loyalty club membership. And with that fee comes guaranteed same-day delivery in 23 metro areas. With its sheer size and lack of actual stores to upkeep, Amazon can afford to offer this kind of speedy service. But as the Associated Press reports, other retail stores have struggled to compete, but not for lack of effort.
$170.4 million
That's how much Chinese billionaire Liu Yiqian will pay for Amedeo Modigliani’s “Reclining Nude," which he purchased at a recent Christie's auction. And how will he pay for it? Credit card, of course. Liu says he will put the entire purchase on his American Express card. And as the Korea Times reports, that likely guarantees him and his family free airfare for the rest of his life to anywhere in the world.
$1.5 million
That's how much Coke gave to the Global Energy Balance Network, a nonprofit aimed at fighting obesity. The group has always claimed that the gift had no influence on its mission statement. However, emails found by the Associated Press point to a direct shaping of the organization by Coke, including messages in which leadership at the nonprofit say they want to help Coke's image when it comes to public health.

According to the Generic Pharmaceutical Association, that's how many months it takes to get a generic drug to market. That makes for a lack of competition in the market, and also higher costs. Cutting down that delay will be a high priority when a Senate committee meets with Dr. Robert Califf, the president’s pick to head up the Food and Drug Administration, on Tuesday morning.

It's also the reason why the company, and other pizza franchises, say that rules requiring calorie labels on restaurant menus don't make sense for their customers. In an attempt to expand out of the generally suffering brick and mortar retail industry, the company announced a plan to get into — wait for it — pizza. Announced Monday, Urban Outfitters is acquiring The Vetri Family restaurants, which includes a chain called Pizzeria Vetri. Though as CNN Money points out, investors were unmoved. Shares dropped 7.5 percent on Monday.
FULL WATER SERVICE RESTORATION IN HOBOKEN DELAYED DUE TO ADDITIONAL BREAK; RESIDENTS URGED TO CONSERVE WATER
None!wtf
After working to isolate a water main break on a transmission line in southwest Hoboken on Sunday that led to widespread water pressure loss throughout the city, an additional 36 inch valve failed last night and disrupted a transmission main which feeds water from Jersey City into Hoboken. This has further delayed full repairs to our water system. The City of Hoboken purchases its water from Jersey City, and it normally flows into Hoboken through large transmission mains.
Excavation of the site was completed overnight and highly specialized equipment will be used to conduct this repair.
Repairing the valve is a complex procedure, due to its size and location underground, and could take several days. As a result, the City of Hoboken will have lower water pressure than usual, and residents, especially those on higher floors, should expect to have lower water pressure, discolored water, or at times no water while repairs are ongoing and as water demand changes throughout the day. The discoloration is caused by high levels of naturally occurring minerals in the water and a buildup of harmless sediment in the water mains.
DELAYS/COMPLICATED WATER RESTORATION
Until the Jersey City valve can be repaired, water at the site of the break will continue to flow from underground. After repairing the valve in Jersey City, only then will Suez Water (formerly known as United Water) be able to conduct an assessment and make repairs in Hoboken. Delays for full restoration could potentially last through Thanksgiving. We will provide an update tomorrow regarding timing as we know more about the repairs.
WATER CONSERVATION ADVISORY
In order to lessen demand on the system, residents throughout Hoboken and Hudson County are strongly urged to conserve water whenever possible or consider changing schedules to use less water during peak hours in the morning and evening.
BOIL WATER ADVISORY
The boil water advisory remains in effect for the City of Hoboken until further notice. Residents should continue to boil their water for one minute for consumptive purposes. This includes drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, etc. Water does not need to be boiled for washing clothes or dishes. It is important that residents continue to boil water until further notice.
WATER TRUCKS
Water trucks with clean drinking water are available at 333 River Street, the intersection of Newark Street and Adams Street, Hoboken High School (900 Clinton Street), Fox Hill Gardens (311 13th Street), and 14th Street and Sinatra Drive.
PUBLIC SAFETY
The Hoboken Fire Department is fully operational and has the necessary resources to address any emergencies that may occur.
TRAFFIC AND STREET CLOSURES
Residents are also urged to use public transportation as the City of Hoboken has diverted traffic from the area. Drivers are urged to enter and exit Hoboken through the north due to several street closures in southwest Hoboken. Observer Highway is closed west of Henderson Street to Jersey Avenue, and Harrison Street is closed from Paterson Avenue to Newark Street. Jackson Street is also closed from Newark Street to Paterson Avenue.

Pfizer and Allergan agree to $160 billion "inversion"
None!Pfizer announced Monday morning the company would merge with Allergan, PLC in what's called a "corporate inversion". The Obama administration issued new rules last week in an attempt to stop these kinds of mergers, in which companies move overseas to take advantage of lower tax rates.
Law Professor John Coffee is director of Columbia University's Center on Corporate Governance. He says the new rules, "may have some chilling effect, but the incentives are just too strong" for companies to give up on inversions altogether.
In the case of the Pfizer-Allergan deal, the smaller company, Allergan, will technically "buy" the larger Pfizer. This will allow Pfizer to take advantage of the tax rate in Ireland, where Allergan is based. That could mean paying an effective tax rate of 15 percent instead of 25 percent.
In addition to lower taxes, Coffee says there’s another reason the companies want to push this deal through now.
"Low interest rates," said Coffee. "Everyone expects that the federal reserve is going to start moving up interest rates, probably as early as next month, and that sort of creates a last minute panic to try to get your deal done at lower interest rates"
Idalene Kesner, dean of the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, says this deal would pool the research and development dollars of the two companies, which could lead to more innovation.
"But I also think it will give the company some degree of strength in the marketplace," she added, "especially given what’s going on with Obamacare and other kinds of health-related changes." The giant company such a deal would create, if approved by regulators, could push for tougher bargains on drug prices when negotiating with health care plans or governments.

That's how many in every 4,500 baby girls is born without a uterus. It's a rare condition, but not insignificant. Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic are preparing to transplant a uterus for the first time in the U.S. In the next few months, surgeons will extract the uterus from a deceased donor and transplant it into an infertile woman in hopes of creating a new alternative for those who cannot have children.
