The Reebok Answer 4 OG Is Set To Return Just In Time For Its 20th Anniversary

by JuanofaKind

A lot of us have been waiting a cool minute for these to re-release, which is why we’re happy to announce the return of the Reebok Answer 4 OG.

Confirmed by Reebok, the Reebok Answer 4 OG will return just in time to celebrate its 20th anniversary. First worn by Allen Iverson during his historic 2000-2001 MVP campaign, details on the Reebok Answer 4 OG include the unique zip-up shroud and racing-inspired upper. The design on this model is without a doubt the most coveted from Iverson’s signature Reebok “Answer” series.

“Answer IV is the crown jewel of Iverson’s journey and the cultural shift he helped to lead,” recalls veteran Reebok Footwear Designer Xavier Jones. “By his ’00-’01 season, ‘Chuck’ was already so beloved for his style and how he approached the game, but that year truly cemented A.I. as a cultural icon. On his feet, Answer IV became a symbol for the new era of modern athlete and a celebration of self-expression. It is without a doubt one of the most iconic sneakers to ever grace the hardwood.”

This reissue of the Reebok Answer 4 OG comes with original design elements like the fading gradient “I3” logo cascading down the tongue veiled by the zipper shroud, 3M reflective details returning to the “I3” quarter panels and top of tongue, the original eye-catching upper and a dynamic outsole featuring DMX foam, a TPU bridge plate and tactical tread patterns. The outsole is complemented by OG graphic executions like the Iverson head sunken underfoot, engraved “Only The Strong Survive” tagline and “I3” and Vector logos at the bridge and forefoot.

Retailing for $130, the Reebok Answer 4 OG drops on April 15th at select retailers and Reebok.com.

In honor of the 20th Anniversary launch, Reebok has partnered with rising sports illustrator Peter Richter (aka Floppy Action) to design and issue a limited run of 199 serial-numbered commemorative “Answer-Versary” trading cards paying homage to the iconic sneaker and Iverson’s 2000-2001 MVP season. Of the 199 commemorative cards to be released:

  • 100 will be distributed via Finish Line, JD Sports, Foot Locker, Champs Sports and Shoe Palace as a gift with purchase or ‘surprise and delight’ for select consumers.
  • 25 will be distributed pre-release as ‘surprise and delight’ from Reebok.com for premiere UNLOCKED members.
  • 25 will be distributed at random as ‘surprise and delight’ from Reebok.com for UNLOCKED members who purchase the shoe.
  • 3-4 will be autographed by Allen Iverson and set aside for the Reebok archive, auction and consumer giveaway (to be determined).
  • Remaining will be distributed as gifts for partners and friends of the brand.

A First Look at the NikeLab x John Elliott Vandal High

by Hypebeast

"Growing up, for me, you had to invest in sneakers that you hooped in you, wore to school and skated in too, just so you don't break your bank account buying three pairs of kicks," said John Elliott backstage -- who was accompanied by Frasher Cooke of Nike and A$AP Bari -- following his latest show at New York Fashion Week Men's. "I choose to collaborate with Nike on the Vandal because it became very much my personality in my high school years."

While the San Francisco designer has worked with Swoosh in the past, showcasing the Nike Aqua Socks in his 2016 spring/summer collection, this NikeLab collaboration is the designer's first official release with the Portland giant. Crafted from lush suede, the release comes in two colorways, Off White and Dark Green, and features wax lacing, leather tongue and heel patch for a sophisticated finish. Marijuana Sales Topped $6.7 Billion USD in 2016

by Hypebeast

It's no secret that the marijuana business is booming, especially since the expansion of the legal market. Forbes just recently reported that 2016 saw an impressive growth of cannabis sales reaching the $6.7 billion USD mark in the U.S. and Canada -- a 30% increase and the largest uptick ever. The report comes from Arcview Market Research.

Furthermore, $5.86 billion USD were attributed to just U.S. sales, and the current projected increase for the future is at a whopping $20.2 billion USD by 2021 for the whole North American market -- this is contingent upon Canada implementing legal marijuana use.  Forbes also points out the growth in general is "larger and faster than even the dot com era."

Arcview's new editor-in-chief Tom Adams divulges that, "The only consumer industry categories I've seen reach $5 billion in annual spending and then post anything like 25% compound annual growth in the next five years are cable television (19%) in the 1990's and the broadband internet (29%) in the 2000's."

It will be interesting to see how the legal marijuana market will shape cannabis culture globally, especially now that it has become a viable part of the economy. Other factors in terms of product will be the evolution of different forms of consumption, namely edibles. Marijuana enthusiasts have a lot to be excited about.

10 Anime Films You Should Watch If You Like Studio Ghibli

by Hypebeast

2016 has been a paramount year for Studio Ghibli. In May, a UK studio called Fire Panda recreated Oculus and Vive-compatible VR scenes from three of Studio Ghibli's most well-known classics. The legendary animation studio premiered a prize-winning short, dialogue-free film titled The Red Turtle the same month, in collaboration with Dutch-British animator Michaël Dudok de Witis at the Cannes Film Festival. However, it wasn't all good news. On October 7, Michiyo Yasuda, a key animator and color designer for Ghibli (as well as Toei Animation, A Production, Nippon Animation and Topcraft) passed away at the age of 77.

The fortuitous film studio was founded by Hayao Miyazaki, Toshio Suzuki, Isao Takahata and Yasuyoshi Tokuma in 1985 after the success of Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984). Its works are often characterized by themes such as environmentalism, childhood, pacifism, feminism, and the absence of traditional villains. Many of the studio's films feature strong, highly capable female protagonists that negate conventional gender roles in Japanese fiction and animation. On top of the brilliant animation and imaginative worlds, music is also a vital element in Ghibli's works thanks to the masterful original compositions of Joe Hisaishi et al. Eight of their movies rank among the 15 highest-grossing anime films in Japan, with Spirited Away (2001) sitting at the number one spot. They were international successes as well; five of Ghibli's films received Academy Award nominations in the U.S. while Spirited Away won an Oscar award for Best Animated feature in 2003.

Not only has Ghibli amassed an enormous amount of fans all over the world, its unique themes, storytelling and animation styles are have also had an influence on many subsequent filmmakers and animators. Luckily, Ghibli isn't the only studio capable of making excellent films that utilize this slice-of-life or fantasy approach. Although the ingenuity of Miyazaki, Takahata and its other directors can never be replicated, there are many other non-Ghlibli films that are almost or just as magnificent. Some of these movies utilize the talents of former Ghibli employees; others draw heavy stylistic inspiration from the studio's themes and style. One might even point out Porter Robinson and Madeon's recent A-1 Pictures & Crunchyroll-assisted "Shelter" short film for drawing influence from Ghibli's aesthetic and storytelling style. Check out some of our favorite non-Ghibli (but Ghibli-influenced) films below.

5 Centimeters per Second

Similar to: Only Yesterday, When Marnie Was There and Whisper of the Heart
Japanese title: 秒速5センチメートル (Byōsoku Go Senchimētoru)
Director: Makoto Shinkai
Studio: CoMix Wave Inc.
Genre: Romance
Release date: March 3, 2007

Makoto Shinkai is often regarded as the "new Miyazaki" for his ability to conjure up mindscapes that equal or even surpass Miyazaki's in detail and emotion. Many consider 5 Centimeters Per Second to be Shinkai's most defining piece of work. The title derives from the speed at which cherry blossoms petals fall -- petals are a metaphorical representation of humans, and the falling entails how people start life together but slowly drift into their separate paths. The story follows a boy named Takaki Tōno and his love interest Akari Shinohara in 1990s and 2000s Japan. Unlike his films prior, there is no fantasy or science fiction element in the film. Rather, the 5cm presents real world struggles that real-life humans experience, addressing themes like time, space, people and love. 5 Centimeters Per Second was awarded the Best Animated Feature Film at the 2007 Asia Pacific Screen Awards.

During her stay there, three droplets from the sky enter Ikuko's house and transforms into yokai (supernatural monsters, spirits and demons in Japanese folklore) named Kawa, Mame and Iwa. While Momo was originally fearful and distrusting of the yokai, they soon become friends and help each other out. The film grossed for a total of $6.75 million USD worldwide and won 14th Future Film Festival Italy's Future Film Platinum Grand Priz. It was also nominated for awards at the 27th Warsaw International Film Festival, 31st Hawaii International Film Festival and the 41st Annie Awards.

This weekend they’ll be celebrating the career of The King as we’ll see the release of LeBron James’ rookie game jersey. James will be entering his 14th NBA season and he’s coming off an impressive season in which he captured his 3rd NBA championship and his first with the Cavs.

The LeBron James rookie game jersey that we see above is the same one that was worn by LeBron on October 29, 2003 when the Cleveland Cavaliers faced off against the Sacramento Kings. Even though the Cavs lost the game, James ended up with a stat line that included 25 points, 9 assists, & 6 rebounds.

LeBron James’ rookie jersey will be exclusively launching in-store and online exclusively at Cleveland’s Xhibition this Friday, October 7th for $250 USD. Any Bron fans plan on picking up a pair?

If you’re a LeBron James fan then this is a must-have jersey for your collection if you don’t have it already.

Book A Stay On Your Own Robinson Crusoe Island

by dmitry

1

Its name is Bird Island, perhaps because it is so small that it can be a decent home to birds only or perhaps because it was first noticed by a bird. We can not tell, but the Bird Island near Placencia, Belize is now available for a holiday booking via Airbnb for 350$ per night.

h/t: wherecoolthingshappen

2

The cool island can accommodate six people who get the land on the beautiful coral reef all to themselves. The private isolated location is twenty minutes away from civilization.

3

The most awesome thing about it is that it is made in authentic Robinson Crusoe style. Still, do not imagine that you will have to grow vegetables and hunt animals.

4

There are a well-stocked kitchen pantry, a local phone and a Wi-Fi connection available. If you are bored, you can watch a movie on the TV or choose a CD.

5

It seems that the greatest Robinson Crusoe experience would be roasting the fish you have caught yourself on the barbecue.

The Hundreds Spring 2016 Lookbook :: Shot & Styled by Alexander Spit

by Kazie Holiday

We’re proud to share The Hundreds Spring 2016  lookbook. The collection is available starting today, February 5, 2016, at flagship locations, select retailers, and in the Online Shop.

The Spring 2016 collection is a nod to the military garb worn by American soldiers returning from Vietnam in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. We were inspired by the imagery of soldiers wearing their military-issued clothing as they stood side-by-side in protest. And from of desire to continue this newfound solidarity, these communities born of rebellion evolved into clubs—be it motorcycle clubs, surfing clubs, skateboarding clubs, or motocross clubs. We pay homage to that tight-knit camaraderie, to the first brand of brothers, the first pack of Hyenas—strength in numbers. It’s an attitude that’s parlays to our beginnings, when Bobby Hundreds shot our lookbooks using the entire streetwear community.

The Hundreds Spring 2016 lookbook is presented as a zine, shot and styled by Alexander Spit, with a limited release of 250 prints available.

“I wanted everything from the styling to the locations and attitudes of the models to look familiar, but exist in its own world of understanding reality. Camaraderie is an important part of culture, and rather than prioritize putting a focal point on one model in any given shot, I tried to showcase each personality through the composition of a group.” -Alexander Spit

Get a first look at the zine below and check out this season’s cut and sew collection:

Air Jordan 1 Pinnacle “Vachetta Tan”

by Patrick

Continuing to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Air Jordan series, the brand is set to launch a beautiful seasonal interpretation of their Air Jordan 1 Pinnacle in this “Vachetta Tan” colorway. Everything we’ve come to love and respect about the iconic original remains in place, it’s just been updated across the upper with copper accents and an untreated, light tan leather base. The best thing about leather like this is that it continues to get better with wear as the personality of the leather accentuates over the years, letting each pair further express their individuality. Finished with tonal embroidered Wings, Swooshes, laces, and liners, you can cop this Air Jordan 1 Pinnacle “Vachetta Tan” beginning Saturday, September 12 online and in select Jordan retailers.

In closing out 2013 Nike is keeping the collections rolling and this time Fox Brothers is bringing the funk. The Fox Brothers x Nike Dunk High we saw a short while ago is bundled in with a similar styled Nike Air Magma and Nike Destroyer Jacket as a part of the Fox Brothers x Nike Sportswear Collection. Based on the Nike Dunk High model we saw before it goes without saying that the quality on these pieces are incredible and everything from the wool used on the uppers to the leather laces are next level. These are set to release to very select Nike retailers like Hanon on December 7th.
