Richard Simmons never ever strays from being completely and totally himself, even when he's supposed to be acting. So his new song and music video entitled "Hair Do" must be just another facet on his personal prism. But what a facet it is. Part workout video, part actual music video, the song includes the line "Vidal Sassoon found Mia Farrow, who looked to me like a baby sparrow." If you don't finish it watching this, I don't blame you. It was a struggle.

A nautilus has hatched at the Birth Aquarium at Scripps Institute of Oceanography at University of California in San Diego in La Jolla, California, a first for the aquarium. To note: a nautilus is a cephalopod, just like the squid. ZooBorns has lots more photos of the little creature who reports the “egg was laid in early November of 2012 and the hatching process has taken weeks… all leading up to last Wednesday, when it finally emerged!”

A (male, Republican, natch) Missouri state representative is suing the federal government for a personal family exemption from the Obamacare birth control mandate on the grounds that it violates his religious liberty. Since we can assume that this male Republican is not worried about blocking his own access to a pharmaceutical made for and taken exclusively by women, we can conclude that this guy is basically suing to keep his wife and daughters from having the option to access free birth control. I guess I missed that day in Catechism when we learned about how the Church believes that the man's religion gets to determine his wife and female offspring's insurance benefits.

Yesterday I ate a tomato, just a tomato, for lunch. It was a gorgeous Black Cherokee about the size of my fist, perfectly ripe and a deep, red-purple color. I cut it into thick slices, put it on a plate and added just a drizzle of olive oil, a pinch of crunchy salt and a flicker of black pepper. I sat outside in the partial shade of my apartment's courtyard and ate it with a knife and fork as if it were a steak. It was indescribably good in a way that only a tomato eaten on a sunny summer's afternoon can be good. It was the food of now, and of here, and it was enormously satisfying.

World Wrestling Entertainment Superstar Darren Young surprised a TMZ cameraman when he came out as gay during an impromptu interview at Los Angeles International Airport.

A videographer stopped Young while he was getting his bags at LAX Wednesday and asked the 33-year-old if he thinks a gay wrestler could be successful within the WWE organization.

"Absolutely," Young said, laughing. "Look at me. I'm a WWE Superstar and, to be honest with you, I'll tell you right now, I'm gay, and I'm happy. Very happy."

An Iowa family's endeavor for another child takes an unexpected turn.

A woman who was caught shoplifting at a K-Mart in Charleston, West Virginia, last week was in for a surprise when police arrived at the scene.

Instead of arresting or reprimanding the single mother, officers Ryan Willard and Duane Fields reacted in a much more sympathetic way, purchasing the necessities for her, according to the Charleston Daily Mail.

"She didn't take anything to benefit herself," Willard said. "She had only taken baby diapers, rash cream and some clothes for her children, 'cause she said she was going through kind of a rough divorce and her husband wasn't really helping out."
