“RNA controls DNA in the human cell nucleus: A seminar in memory of Prof. John Hearst”, Apr 3

Many enzymes and transcription factors (TFs) that act on DNA/chromatin also bind RNA. The RNA is thought to be regulatory, but detailed mechanisms are lacking. I will describe our research on PRC2, DNMT1, and TFs, including a new cryo-EM structure. The ability of proteins to directly transfer from RNA to DNA, without first dissociating from the RNA, appears to be necessary for RNA to recruit proteins to DNA.
