There's twerking, there's booty shots, there's a lot of dancing by people who aren't Iggy. Overall, it delivers on the promised bounce.

Living Under the Bridge Isn't Just for Trolls Anymore

by Alex Santoso

Images: BoysPlayNice/H3T - via Apartment Therapy

See, living under bridges isn't just for trolls anymore. Now, the avant garde class (or horror lovers) can join in on the fun!

Czech architecture firm H3T Architeckti's "Black Flying House" is a small four square meter (about 43 square feet) house suspended under an old railway bridge with thin steel cables. From a distance, it looks like the dwelling is floating in the air.

The house is accessible using a small ladder and features a small window and stark interior with matte black finishes. Perfect for a horror fan!

How the low-FODMAP diet helped me beat my bloat

by Keri Wiginton

If you're one of the 60 million Americans with a digestive disorder, you may be used to approaching each meal with a sense of dread.

Casual dominance: take things away from me

by Girl on the net

This might sound weird: I like it when men take things from me. Not large things, like my dignity or my house. Or even small-ish things like my life savings. I like it when they assert a kind of casual dominance – taking inconsequential things from me, with an attitude that tells me I couldn’t possibly object. It’s one […]

Kanye West Releases Stunning 17-Minute Version of Beloved Slow Jam 'Bed'

by Rich Juzwiak on The Muse, shared by Julianne Escobedo Shepherd to Jezebel

The track embedded below is an exercise in contextual unlikeliness. It’s a remix of The-Dream’s unreleased demo of “Bed,” a song he wrote that was eventually recorded by J. Holiday and went on to peak at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2007. This new beat-less rerub stretches out for more than 17 minutes, as if one…

Alan Colmes, liberal voice on Fox, dead at 66

by Associated Press

NEW YORK — Alan Colmes, the radio and television host and commentator best known as the amiable liberal foil to the hard-right Sean Hannity on the Fox News Channel, has died.

Fox spokeswoman Dana Klinghoffer confirmed his death Thursday. Fox also aired a tribute to Colmes, narrated by Hannity, and a statement from his family saying that he died Thursday morning after “a brief illness.” Colmes was 66 and is survived by his wife, Jocelyn Elise Crowley, the sister of longtime Fox contributor Monica Crowley. In a statement issued through Fox, Hannity called Colmes “one of life’s most decent, kind and wonderful people.”

Colmes was a New York City native and Hofstra University graduate who worked for years in radio, notably on WABC and WNBC, and standup comedy before joining Fox in 1996. That same year he and the conservative Hannity began a 12-year run as co-hosts of the popular “Hannity & Colmes” program, which brought Colmes both fame and ridicule. Admittedly a minority voice on the conservative channel, Colmes was often mocked as too nice and easily overshadowed by the ever-aggressive Hannity.

The liberal media watchdog Fairness and Accuracy in Media likened him to the hapless Washington Generals, the dependable losers to basketball’s Harlem Globetrotters. Al Franken, in his best-selling “Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them,” imagined Colmes earning his salary by “adding toner to the copiers and printers, loofah-ing Roger Ailes in his personal steam room, and ordering Chinese food for editors working on misleading video packages.”

Colmes was aware of the criticism, but said that getting mean was not his style.

“People say to me, ‘Why don’t you fight fire with fire?'” he told The Associated Press in 2003. “You fight fire with water, not fire.”

Colmes continued to appear as a commentator on Fox after his show with Hannity ended. He also was an author, his books including “Thank the Liberals” and “Red, White & Liberal.”

Endangered Francois’ langur monkey born at Lincoln Park Zoo

by Jordan Owen

An endangered monkey born three days ago at the Lincoln Park Zoo is already on display and shouldn’t be difficult to spot.

The bright orange Francois’ langur was born Monday and can be seen by visitors at the Helen Brach Primate House, according to a statement from the North Side zoo announcing its newest arrival.

The infant is the seventh successful offspring for Pumpkin, the mother; and Cartman, the father, according to the zoo. It joins sisters Kieu and Orla, brothers Vinh and Pierre, and adult female Chi in the troop.

The baby’s sex and measurements have not yet been determined as the newborn is clinging to its mom, according to the zoo. Its fur will turn from orange to black by the time it is six months old.

“Pumpkin is an experienced and attentive mother and the entire troop is being supportive,” the zoo’s curator of primates Maureen Leahy said in the statement.

Francois’ langurs–native to China, Vietnam and Laos–are endangered in the wild due to habitat degradation and hunting.

The baby can be seen between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily at the zoo.

So here's a video showing an orangutan from Southeast Asia using a handsaw to cut a branch in two, using her feet to hold the branch steady and clearing the sawdust from the cut as she works.

These Are The Female Activists You Need To Know About

by Shanthi Blanchard

MLK, MLK Day 2017, MLK 2017, Martin Luther King Day, January 16th, 2017, Leading Women civil rights, civil rights, BLM,

image via: Wikimedia Commons

Today, we celebrate the life and memory of a person who moved the civil rights platform forward in America through his peaceful, non-violent protesting, and his humane belief against racial inequality. Martin Luther King Jr. was a humanitarian, an activist, a noble laureate, and was notably, given the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal  posthumously for his work against the racial intolerance and bigotry against African Americans in the United States.

Nearly 50 years later, his legacy lives on through the continued work of activists, community organizers, and those willing to stand up against the racial inequalities people of color face each day in America. These activists have devoted their lives so that the next generation of Americans can live a more egalitarian and peaceful one.

Women, both during King’s time and now, have played a particularly important role within the civil rights movement. Yet historically, their countless stories have gone untold. As activist Johnetta Elzie reflects, “You have to go dig for them. You really have to do your research to find out who Ella Baker is.”

However, women have slowly been gaining recognition for their efforts, especially now. Currently, women are at the forefront of the civil rights movement – from leading protests, to organizing movements and dispersing knowledge. In the age of the internet and social media, women have used these tools to build community, share their voices, and grow ideas into action.

Below, we’ve listed some of the leading female civil rights leaders who are keeping the memory of MLK alive through their works, their words, and by creating a better future for tomorrow through their actions.

Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi

Black Lives Matter is one of the most influential movements in America, and is bringing to light the unjust, lethal violence against Black bodies by our criminal justice system. Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors and Opal Tometi  are the originators of the call to action and viral hashtag behind the movement. The three women originally met through a national organization for community organizers called BOLD (Black Organizing for Leadership and Dignity). Their relationship continued as they began to unpack the devaluation of Black lives in the wake of police brutality, a questioning that led to a now famous Facebook letter, which eventually included the hashtag, #BlackLivesMatter.

Tamika Mallory

Mallory is a nationally recognized civil rights leader and anti-violence advocate. Currently, she is organizing the upcoming Women’s March on Washington this week. However, Mallory’s background is extensive and includes co-chairing for the Gun Violence Awareness Month initiative, owning a strategic consulting firm, appearing on TV One, CNN, MSNBC, BET to talk about civil rights issues.

Johnetta Elzie

Elzie is an powerful outspoken activist who has been at the forefront of civil rights activism since the shooting of Michael Brown (who grew up near her childhood neighborhood in Ferguson, MO). Elzie leads a group called We The Protesters and is a co-editor of the Ferguson protest newsletter This Is the Movement.

Bree Newsome

Newsome is a filmmaker, activist and speaker from North Carolina. On June 2015, Newsome climbed the flag pole at the North Carolina State House and took down the confederate flag. She was heard stating the powerful words, “This flag comes down today.” Although she was arrested moments later, the act served to bring enough publicity to force state officials to take the flag down permanently.

Janet Mock

Janet Mock is a journalist, author, and advocate. She was a former editor at People Magazine for five years, a current contributor to Marie Claire, and TV host, and film maker. Her works concentrate on racial inequality in the media and transgender rights activism. You can check out her book, Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love and So Much More, here.

Michelle Alexander

Understanding racial inequalities means understanding the systems that perpetuate racial bias and disparity. Michelle Alexander is doing exactly this. Alexander is a professor at Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. In 2010 she wrote a book entitled “The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness. The book details the history of  the mass incarceration movement, and how the movement has been used to obtain racial and social control. Read more about Alexander’s theory here.

You may remember her as little Rue in the Hunger Games, but Amandla Stenberg has grown up and is paving a path outside the world of acting.
