TRANSCRIPT

Hi. I'm Rebecca from engVid. Today I'm especially excited to welcome you to a new series that I've created called: "How to Speak like a Manager". In this series you will learn how to take general English and upgrade it to business English. Okay? And we'll be doing that by looking at different verbs that you can use, adjectives, nouns, and so on. Okay? But today in this lesson we will be focusing on eight verbs. But you might be asking: "Only eight verbs and I can become a manager?" Well, yes. "Why?" Because I'm going to show you how these eight verbs, to start with, can actually be used in hundreds of ways, in different collocations or combinations of words, so therefore you'll be able to use them in all kinds of situations. Definitely in professional situations, but also in social situations or personal situations. Okay? So, let's start right now. Okay.

So let's suppose what you want to say in general English or regular English is something like this: "I need to find out what's wrong." Okay? Now, on this side is all the regular English or the general English. Okay? And on this side we're going to express the same idea, but in higher English, in more advanced business English or more professional English. And you're going to help me because I didn't write the word in yet. You're going to help me because perhaps you already know some of these words, but even if you know them you might not realize how many different ways we can actually use those same words, and that's what I want you to be able to do. Okay? So suppose your idea in your mind is that: "I need to find out what's wrong." So how can we say that in more professional English? "I need to", the verb starts with "i": "I need to _______ the problem. I need to identify the problem." Okay? So, our first word today is "identify". Say it after me: "identify the problem". Good.

Now, suppose the idea you're trying to convey is: "I need to fix the problem." Okay? "Fix" is a very ordinary word, so what better word could we use here? "I need to _______ the issue or the issues. I need to", you might know this word. "I need to resolve", okay? So, "resolve" is just like "solve", but usually we say: "Solve the problem", but we might say: "Resolve the issue". And "resolve" is an even higher, more advanced word. And the higher vocabulary that you use, the more professional you will sound. Okay? And that's what our goal is. Right?

Okay, next: "I need to give people confidence." So what's a good word or verb for that? "To give somebody confidence" is to, something starts with "m": "I need to _______ my employees. I need to..." Do you know this word? I'm sure you've heard it. "Motivate". Okay? Say it after me: "Motivate" or "motivate". You can say the "t"; sometimes it's easier and clearer for people to understand you when you say the "t". So let's say the "t" now: "Motivate. I need to motivate my employees" or: "I need to motivate my employees." Okay? Instead of saying: "I need to give people confidence", because you see that all the verbs here are very ordinary, everyday verbs, and those are higher-level verbs.

Next: "I need to give clients my attention." Again, we have a very weak verb here, so how can you say that: "I need to give my attention to my clients or give clients my attention"? The word... The verb starts with "f": "I need to _______ on our clients." What's the verb? Do you know it? "I need to focus", okay? Say it after me: "Focus". Be careful how you pronounce this word because otherwise it can sound improper. All right? "I need to focus on our clients." Sounds a lot better than saying: "I need to give my attention to my clients." Okay? "I need to focus".

Next: "I need to spend as little as possible". "Spend as little" means spend as little money. So what's one word that captures that idea, to spend as little as possible? It starts with "m": "I need to _______ our expenses or our costs." Do you know what it is? Okay? So the word is "minimize". […]

Speak English Fluently | Pronunciation – the word THEM | Pronunciation Guide

by Rachel's English

You can speak English fluently! It takes effort to learn English pronunciation but you can make huge improvements if you have the right pronunciation guide. That’s where I come in! The entire aim of my channel is to help you learn English and, more importantly, speak English fluently and sound like a native speaker. You can do it! You can learn English if you are willing to work hard and this pronunciation guide will help you get there.

In this video you get a spoken English lesson on the word THEM. If your goal is to speak English fluently, pronunciation of short reduction-heavy words like THEM is crucial. The word them is a great example of why English pronunciation is such a big challenge. It usually gets reduced so much that it’s almost unrecognizable in a sentence. You will get many examples of the reduction of the word them in this video and you can turn the video into an English speaking lesson by listening and repeating the sounds that you hear. You can absolutely speak English fluently but the only way to get there is through speaking English practice. You learn English in the same way that a native speaker learns English when you do it this way.

Because it’s most common to learn English through reading it’s easy to have incorrect pronunciation. But you can quickly improve your spoken English with my step-by-step videos. If your goal is to learn English pronunciation here’s the key: a great pronunciation guide and lots (and lots!) of English speaking practice.

As you use this video for training on the word them you will be actively working to speak English fluently. Working on the pronunciation of the word them might seem like a small or too-specific task for a spoken English lesson. But because you will be immersed in the English language of native speakers throughout the video you will be picking up pronunciation skills almost without trying.

Repetition and training are the only way to speak English fluently. Some people will tell you that it’s just about motivation or a certain mindset. That’s just not right. You can absolutely speak English fluently, but only through focused training on the correct pronunciation. The best way to learn English is to follow an experienced, professional pronunciation guide…and that’s exactly what you’ve got with Rachel’s English!

by mmmEnglish

⭐️Improve your English pronunciation and expression by imitating a native English speaker - https://www.mmmenglish.com/imitation

In this lesson, we'll take a closer look at the verbs (to) LEND and (to) BORROW ... These verbs describe the same action, but from a different perspective. If you use them incorrectly, your sentence can be confusing and incorrect! Look at this example:
My mum lent me her car.
I borrowed my mum's car.
These two sentences are talking about the exact same action!
😣😣😣

I want to help you feel more confident when you are using these verbs... So, let's practise!

JAK PRZYŚPIESZYĆ STAREGO LAPTOPA ❓ - PORADNIK

Jeżeli planujesz odświeżenie swojego laptopa, ale szukasz dysku np. o innej pojemności, to zapraszam Cię tutaj:

Natomiast jeżeli chcesz inną obudowę typu mojego ulubieńca IcyBox'a to tutaj:
http://bit.ly/ObudowyDysków

Na koniec pasty termoprzewodzące (warto zmieniać co jakiś czas):
http://bit.ly/PastyTermoprzewodzace

Oraz do mycia plastików i ekranów użyłem pianek i odpowiednich płynów. To już łatwiej znaleźć :D! Od razu mówię, że czyszczenie plastiku rozpuszczalnikiem to słaba sprawa :D!

Jak przyśpieszyć laptopa? Dostał dosłownie nowe życie! Swego czasu zaczęła mi coraz bardziej doskwierać jego wydajność. Zadałem sobie to pytanie i postanowiłem przywrócić go do żywych.

No a dziś przyśpieszyłem laptopa nowym dyskiem twardym. Zainstalowałem te same aplikacje (bez kilku gier) i wszystko tak przyśpieszyło, że czuję się jakbym korzystał z zupełnie innego laptopa. Aż poczułem dziecięcą radość, kiedy to było tak jak otworzyłem go poraz pierwszy i mogłem zagrać w tyle gier :O! Choć miałem wtedy GTX560 w komputerze, a tutaj GTX560M, taka cała rodzinka powstała :D

(Tata mówił na niego "dachówka", a znajomi "płyta chodnikowa")

Dziękuję za oglądanie! Mam nadzieję, że się podobało!

Real English: Talking about BEER

by English Lessons with Adam - Learn English [engVid]

Have you ever been offered a "cold one"? This means you were invited to go drink some beer. In many countries (and most English-speaking countries), beer is a big a part of the local culture, so it's a good idea to know some of the language involved with this celebrated drink. In this lesson, we will look at beer types, customs, and even the process of making beer. I'll talk about vocabulary, slang, expressions, and more. So sit back and relax with a brewski, and enjoy the lesson!

Next, watch my video on vocabulary for taking a road trip:

TRANSCRIPT

Hi. Welcome to engVid. I'm Adam. Today's lesson is a very special one, especially here in Canada because we're going to talk about beer, one of our favourite drinks, one of our favourite pastimes. In fact, it looks something like this. This is a beer. Not a Canadian beer, but that's okay, it's an import. We're going to talk about the different types of beer, we're going to... You're going to be drinking here when you come to visit us. And beer is a very delicious, cold drink, made with a few particular ingredients. It's alcoholic, so I know not everybody drinks it, but if you come to Canada it's a big part of our culture; we drink it summer, winter, lunch, dinner, sometimes breakfast but not usually. It happens. But there's a bunch of things you need to know if you're going to come to Canada and talk about beer. Of course, in Europe and other places in the world, very common as well.

So, first of all, we have a few nicknames for beer. We could call it: "a brew", "a brewski", "suds", "a cold one", some people even call it "a barley sandwich". "Barley" is like a little grain, it's a cereal that you make beer with, so if anybody offers you a barley sandwich, they are offering you a beer.

So, first let's talk about the process of making beer. You begin with... By making a "malt". You take the barley, you put it in a container and let it "sprout". So like little seeds come out and little strips of that come out. And once you have those sprouts, you put them in a different container and let them "ferment". In other words, you let the sugar content become alcohol. Okay? You..."Fermenting" is used with a lot of different things, but especially in beer. Once the sprouts have fermented and the alcohol is there, then you add "hops". "A hop" is a particular type of plant, very green, very bitter that you add, and you also add "yeast". "Yeast" is the same thing we put in bread, or in flour and water, in dough to make it rise. Okay? So we put it also in beer, that's why you have the white foam on top of the beer. Okay? And the hops and the yeast, they add the bitters and the flavours. That's why your beer tastes a little bit bitter, depending on the type of beer. Some of them are more sweet, some are less, we're going to talk about that after.

Okay, so next we need to think about the "alcohol content" or "alcohol by volume". Now, there is such a thing as non-alcoholic beer, but it doesn't really taste that good. They say it's supposed to taste the same as beer, but I'm not so sure. I'll let you decide that yourself. So, every time you get a bottle of beer it will say on it: "alcohol by volume" or "ABV". Okay? So, a lite beer-and we generally spell it "l-i-t-e", not "g-h"-is 4% usually, 4.5 maybe. A regular beer is usually 5, 5.5, and a strong beer is 7 or higher. And a strong beer will get you drunk pretty quick. Okay? And it's a very strong taste to it.

Now, how do we drink beer? You can drink it from the bottle, you can drink it from a can, or you can drink it from "a mug". A mug is usually glass, it's usually pretty big and has a handle. If you go to a pub or a bar here, they will keep it in the fridge, it's nice in cold, they put the cold beer inside, you drink it, it's very delicious. "A stein" looks like a mug, but generally it could be bigger, it could be different sizes, different shapes. It's usually very decorative. It has, like, colours, or it has shapes, or it has emblems, all kinds of things on it. You will see this especially at Oktoberfest which I'll talk about in a second.

Now, the size of your beer also makes a difference. You can get "a pint" or "a half pint". If you want to know measurements, that's 20 ounces or 568 millilitres, give or take. So, a half pint is not usually half, it's usually about 12 ounces. You can get a glass or you can get a full pint in a mug. Now, if you're with a bunch of friends, you can just order "a pitcher". A pitcher is usually about 3 or 4 almost pints I think. And I think in Europe, three pints. So about that. In Europe I think you can buy by the litre, is usually the case, and that's more personal, too; it's not to share with your friends. […]

Driving Downtown - New York City 4K - USA

by J Utah

Driving Downtown - New York City New York USA - Episode 54.
Starting Point: Park Avenue https://goo.gl/maps/6LEJanN49HR2 .
The City of New York, often called New York City or simply New York, is the most populous city in the United States. With an estimated 2017 population of 8,622,698 distributed over a land area of about 302.6 square miles (784 km2), New York City is also the most densely populated major city in the United States. Located at the southern tip of the state of New York, the city is the center of the New York metropolitan area, one of the most populous urban agglomerations in the world, with an estimated 20.3 million people in its 2017 Metropolitan Statistical Area and 23.7 million residents in its Combined Statistical Area. A global power city, New York City has been described as the cultural, financial, and media capital of the world, and exerts a significant impact upon commerce, entertainment, research, technology, education, politics, tourism, and sports. The city's fast pace defines the term New York minute. Home to the headquarters of the United Nations, New York is an important center for international diplomacy.

Situated on one of the world's largest natural harbors, New York City consists of five boroughs, each of which is a separate county of the State of New York. The five boroughs – Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, The Bronx, and Staten Island – were consolidated into a single city in 1898. The city and its metropolitan area constitute the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. As many as 800 languages are spoken in New York, making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world. New York City is home to more than 3.2 million residents born outside the United States, the largest foreign-born population of any city in the world. In 2013, the tri-state New York Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) produced a gross metropolitan product (GMP) of nearly US$1.4 trillion. If greater New York City were a sovereign state, it would have the 12th highest GDP in the world.

New York City traces its origins to a trading post founded by colonists from the Dutch Republic in 1624 on Lower Manhattan; the post was named New Amsterdam in 1626. The city and its surroundings came under English control in 1664 and were renamed New York after King Charles II of England granted the lands to his brother, the Duke of York. New York served as the capital of the United States from 1785 until 1790. It has been the country's largest city since 1790. The Statue of Liberty greeted millions of immigrants as they came to the Americas by ship in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and is a world symbol of the United States and its ideals of liberty and peace. In the 21st century, New York has emerged as a global node of creativity and entrepreneurship, social tolerance, and environmental sustainability, and as a symbol of freedom and cultural diversity.

Many districts and landmarks in New York City are well known, and the city received a record 61 million tourists in 2016, hosting three of the world's ten most visited tourist attractions in 2013. Several sources have ranked New York the most photographed city in the world. Times Square, iconic as the world's "heart" and its "Crossroads", is the brightly illuminated hub of the Broadway Theater District, one of the world's busiest pedestrian intersections, and a major center of the world's entertainment industry. The names of many of the city's bridges, skyscrapers, and parks are known around the world. Anchored by Wall Street in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, New York City has been called both the most economically powerful city and the leading financial center of the world, and the city is home to the world's two largest stock exchanges by total market capitalization, the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. Manhattan's real estate market is among the most expensive in the world. Manhattan's Chinatown incorporates the highest concentration of Chinese people in the Western Hemisphere, with multiple signature Chinatowns developing across the city. Providing continuous 24/7 service, the New York City Subway is one of the most extensive metro systems worldwide, with 472 stations in operation. Over 120 colleges and universities are located in New York City, including Columbia University, New York University, and Rockefeller University, which have been ranked among the top universities in the world.
