Japanese 20-Somethings “Don’t Know Gundam”

by Scott Green

"Gundam? Never heard of her?" Japanese lifestyle magazine R25 ran into a bit of a problem when it tried to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Gundam by surveying young men about franchise mecha. Polled by a market research firm, 51% of the sample set of guys in their 20s didn't know enough about the series to name a favorite design or mech they'd like to pilot.

The internet otaku ranks were a bit appalled by this “How could you not know?” and “Gundam and JoJo are compulsory courses.”

Some however did manage to frame the response from a positive perspective: “It’s great that half of the people knew about a work that was created 35 years ago.”

"Happinesscharge PreCure!" Film Slated for October 11

by Mikikazu Komatsu

It is officially announced today on June 30 that Happinesscharge PreCure! Ningyou no Kuni no Ballerina (The ballerina in the doll country), the feature film version of the on-going TV anime Happinesscharge PreCure! will open in Japan on October 11. The date is two weeks earlier than the five recent PreCure films released in fall. The last year's Dokidoki! PreCure film was released on October 26, and the 2012 Smile PreCure! film was on October 27.

Happinesscharge is the 11th installment of Toei Animation's long-running PreCure TV anime series, and is also produced as the franchise's 10th anniversary title. While the poster visual introduces new characters for the film including a girl dancing with Cure Lovely, the details of the story is still not clear to the media, except it is set in the doll country as the title shows. The tagline says, "Love and bonds of friendship make a miracle happen!" A special advance ticket with two types of "Kururin Odekake Bag"

illustrated with the PreCure girls will go on sale in theaters across Japan from July 19.
