James Recommends Tower of Guns, a bullet hell game mixed with a first person shooter. Without the top-down, 360 degree view provided by most bullet hells, the first person perspective limits the player to seeing only what's in front of them and raises some interesting questions for how you can make the cacophony of bullets fun to play in despite that limited view. The developer solves this problem by reaching back to the old school circle strafing gameplay of classic Doom or Quake, making the bullets slow enough for the player to see them coming and have an opportunity to dodge.

Also, the results of the Twitter feed's gradually filled in count-down art

WAG Challenge: http://itch.io/jam/wag-challenge

___________
Rust assigns players a skin color on character creation, then ties it to their Steam account so they can never change it. This game design decision creates diversity in the player base and has forced many players to play as characters of an ethnicity different from their own. Since the game does not censor players' language, many of these players are hearing themselves called racial insults for the first time. While uncomfortable, this experience also pushes players who might normally be oblivious to those issues (or even participate in them) to consider things from a different perspective.

The previous record was 4.11 billion yen by last year's Dimensional Sniper, which also updated the record of its predecessor, 17th film Private Eye in the Distant Sea's 3.63 billion yen.

Even in its sixth weekend of May 23-24, the Koubun Shizuno-directed film still ranked 6th, while one of its anime film competitors opened on the same day, Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F has already slipped out of the top 10.

James Recommends Distant Star: Revenant Fleet, a game that puts you in control of a small fleet as you fight your way across randomly generated maps to see the story to its end. The mixture of roguelike elements with aspects of RTS design makes the game a fascinating hybrid, but one that's unfortunately held back by minor flaws. Those flaws provide an opportunity for game designers to study and learn how small oversights can chip away at the player's otherwise good experience.

Country music is awesome! BUT there’s a weird stigma attached to even the best country music and we at Idea Channel want to understand why. Not only is it’s appeal massive, but it in some respects is keeping the record business afloat! And when it comes to music, who better to walk you from Johnny Cash to Garth Brooks on a dusty saddle than the one and only wild wild west wrangler Mike Rugnetta? Join us on this week’s episode of Idea Channel for a look at this much maligned but all together wonderful genre of music, why it might be misunderstood and how country music went from twanging banjos to pop music with a drawl (no pickup truck needed).

Valve's attempt to introduce a marketplace onto the Steam Workshop raises questions about the effect paid mods would have on the mod community and the game companies themselves. The modders get only a small percentage of sales, but that percentage is still better than the cost of licensing the game's brand or engine. Game developers must consider the risks of legal action if a modder sells content using copyrighted or trademarked material, because even if they had no direct hand in the content's creation, the fact that they make money from it may open them to lawsuits. It could also drive down the interest in DLC even further while driving up the demands on customer service, since players may have mistake bugs caused by their mods for bugs in the main game.

A Look Back at the Team-Up Between "My Love Story!!" and "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure"

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Kazune Kawahara and Aruko's award-winning My Love Story!! manga launched in Shueisha's Bessatsu Margaret in October 2011 (technically in Betsuma Sister with a 100-page special before moving into the main magazine). Today is the fourth anniversary of the May 19th launch of JoJolion, the eighth part of Hirohiko Araki's JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, in Shueisha's Ultra Jump. Believe it or not, these Shueisha classmates once teamed up, along the lines of the new JoJo's x Terraformars promotion!

In late 2013, leading into last year's Betsuma 50th anniversary, the two launched a co-promotion in which My Love Story!! leads Takeo Gōda and Rinko Yamato dressed as Jojolion's Josuke Higashikata and Yasuho Hirose, displayed on the Shueisha building in Jinbocho and distributed at Shibuya Parco.

Check out the results!
