Geralt in The Witcher III: Wild Hunt finds himself torn between two women he loves. His relationship with Yennefer is passionate but tumultuous, while his relationship with Triss is more tender and caring. Choosing between these two women doesn't feel like picking your favorite option at a buffet, a fault that Bioware romance options often fall into - it feels like defining Geralt as a person through the choice he makes. Geralt's relationship with these women reflects an inner conflict about who he already is (Yennefer) and who he wants to be (Triss). It also showcases a weakness in the "blank slate" character model so common in Western RPGs: by giving the player full control over who the character is, we actually limit ourselves since we can only define the character in broad, easy to design strokes such as "good" or "evil." The defined character and existing backstory of Geralt allowed the Witcher 3 developers to create nuanced choices that help the player think about who he is and what his choices mean.

For its upcoming 40th anniversary campaign, Lawason, one of the largest Japanese convenience store chains, has decided to collaborate with the ongoing PreCure TV series Go! Princess PreCure. It will offer a special iPhone 6 cover and an original character good set both featuring a newly drawn illustration of the four main girls: Haruka Haruno, Minami Kaido, Kirara Amanogawa, and Towa.

 

The set contains a tin badge plate, acrylic charm and a microfiber cloth "Mofu Moofu." Pre-orders for the limited items have been already accepted at the Lawson stores across Japan since yesterday, September 15, and they will end on October 31. Both items' scheduled shipping day is November 26.

From Software's game of frantic action and existential horror, Bloodborne, is receiving an expansion DLC on November 24, 2015, entitled Bloodborne: The Old Hunters. The expansion will feature new weapons (such as Simon's Bowblade), new outfits, and challenging new beasts to hunt, including a new boss character: Ludwig, the first hunter of the Healing Church!

 

 

Bloodborne: The Old Hunters is exclusively available for the PlayStation 4 game console. The DLC costs $19.99, and it requires a copy of the base Bloodborne game in order to play.

The songwriter who created the massively popular "Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis," or "Cruel Angel's Thesis," the theme song from Neon Genesis Evangelion, has been making bank. Neko Oikawa was on Out x Deluxe recently on September 10 to discuss the song itself, and how much she's been making as well as the song's legacy as one of the most popular anime theme songs of all time.

 

Oikawa has been making at least a hundred million year annually from royalties each time the song has been sung in karaoke. Pachinko royalties were even better for her, and even though she's making that kind of money, she's not even seen Neon Genesis Evangelion.

 

Nor is she really interested: "I wrote the song, and my job was done. I wrote it in about two hours." These are very interesting revelations, especially for an anime that's so wildly popular and for a property that's making Oikawa so much money. It was absolutely a lucrative job, and a memorable song everyone will always be happy to sing at karaoke!

The Fallout Shelter app's breakout success took everyone, including Bethesda, by surprise. It's a casual, free-to-play game - exactly what many hardcore players hate - but it became so popular that its revenue overtook Candy Crush, the traditional King of the mobile market. Nor is it just the traditional mobile players who hopped on board: user reviews and the game's forum come from the hardcore audience. The simple gameplay inspired by Tiny Tower has very little interactivity and is heavily timer-based. It also makes the best characters available only to those who pay money for the game's "lunchbox" gachapon. So why does this game succeed where other hardcore-into-casual games like Bioware's Heroes of Dragon Age or EA's Dungeon Keeper reboot failed? It may be that the lack of energy systems and PvP, traditional drivers of F2P monetization, made the game more friendly and less demanding to play.

It is confirmed that two-member unit Every Little Thing, ELT for short, performs the theme song for "Pumpkin Oukoku no Takaramono" (The Treasure of the Pumpkin Kingdom), the 50-minute main part of the upcoming three-part film edition of the critically acclaimed ongoing PreCure TV series Go! Princess PreCure.

 

The veteran unit with 19-year career has previously provided theme songs for Initial D Third Stage in 2001 ("JIRENMA"), Inuyasha the Movie: The Castle Beyond the Looking Glass in 2002 ("Yura Yura," "Ai no Uta"), TV anime Inuyasha in 2003 ("Grip!"), BUZZER BEATER in 2005 ("Azayakana Mono"), and Pokémon the Movie: Black—Victini and Reshiram and White—Victini and Zekrom in 2011 ("Sora," "Koe"). The yet-titled song will be released as their 47th single on November 4.

  

The film, also containing two CG-animated shorts "PreCure to Refi no Wonder Night!" (PreCure and Refi's Wonder

Night!) and "Cure Flora to Itazura Kagami" (Cure Flora and the Trick Mirror), will open in Japan on October 31.

You may recall that Hyrule Warriors (AKA Zelda Musou) is coming to Nintendo 3DS as Hyrule Warriors Legends. This week's issue of Famitsu magazine reveals that Toon Link will be among the playable characters in the portable version.

 

Appropriately, there will also be a new Wind Waker portion in Legend Mode that can be played through as Tetra, with the King of Hyrule and the Helmaroc King appearing in some form. Toon Link won't be playable in Legend Mode, but you'll be able to control him elsewhere. 

 

Hyrule Warriors Legends hits Nintendo 3DS next spring.

After first announcing that it would re-release Revolutionary Girl Utena as one of its first Blu-Ray releases, Nozomi Entertainment is now actively soliciting feedback from the fanbase on what the release should contain in terms of packaging artwork and additional extras, as it seeks to make this release of the TV series the most definitive version yet.

Nozomi Entertainment previously released a limited edition DVD boxset of the series in 2011 to celebrate its initial license rescue that was well-received and the Blu-Ray set is expected to meet the same high standards.

The September 18th release of volume 46 of Kenjiro Hata's Hayate the Combat Butler is offering a very-fanservicey bonus. Along with chapters 492-502, the limited edition will feature a set of See a Private Place heat-reveal cards where special regions of Athena Tennousu, Hinagiku Katsura and Izumi Segawa are revealed by a temperature change from body heat or warm water. 

 

They're water proof, so the ability to bathe with them is called out as a bonus feature.

 

 

Speaking of Hata, his new sci-fi series Ad Astra Per Aspera debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump issue 40 on September 2nd. Hayate will continue to run while Hata begins exploring the story of an ordinary boy caught up in a war with a galactic empire.

Kadokawa has posted a 30-second CM for the upcoming digitally-remastered Blu-ray box of the five anime films and two OVA series based on Hajime Kanzaka's popular light novel series Slayers narrated by Lina Inverse (CV: Megumi Hayashibara) and Naga the White Serpent (Maria Kawamura).

 

The 38,000 yen set newly remastered from the original 35mm negative films will be released on October 30. The novel's original illustrator Rui Araizumi provides its box illustration, while the anime character designer/animation director Takahiro Yoshimatsu draws its digi-pack jackets.

Just when you thought Saber figures couldn't get more esoteric Mysterious Heroine X, the ingenious disguise of Saber from 2013's Back Alley Satsuki - Chapter Heroine Sanctuary April Fools' joke, is set to get a 1/7 scale figure from Alter. The 23cm (with scarf) Servant was sculpted by Osamu Ryuzaki with color by Nanahou Tetsumori, selling for 11,664yen (with tax) ahead of a December release.

It was a big summer for Yoshiki Tanaka's Legend of the Galactic Heroes, a space-opera based on 19th century Prussian conflicts, with news that Viz's Haikasoru label will publish the novels, Sentai Filmworks will release the epic-length 1988 OVA and Production I.G is working on a new anime. Now, it's time for sci-fi fans to put down their money, and with the Amazon listing, cover art for the English release of the first novel has been previewed.

The release is scheduled for March 8, 2016. Sci-fi manga author Yukinobu Hoshino (2001 Nights) provides the illustrations.

Fate/stay night ヒロインX 1/7 完成品フィギュア

The official website for the ongoing TV anime adaptation of Sorata Akizuki's fantasy shoujo manga Akagami no Shirayukihime/Snow White with the Red Hair announced on September 1 that its first cour's last 12th episode will be aired in the end of September. Then after three months interval from October to December, its second cour will start with the 13th episode in January 2016. The same production team including director Masahiro Ando and character designer Kumiko Takahashi will be working on it as well. The Bones-produced adaptation premiered in Japan on July 7.

 

Also as reported, the limited edition of the manga's upcoming 15th volume to be released on January 5, 2016, will come with a newly-produced OAD.

James Recommends Luckslinger, a 2D side-scrolling shooter where you play as a Wild West cowboy whose main resource is luck. Luck becomes a resource in this game, one that can be used to alter the random elements of the game to change outcomes in your favor (or prevent bad luck from befalling you). But enemies in boss fights have access to the same resource, meaning they can turn your shots against you or cause you to fail where at first it looked like you would succeed, creating a very different dynamic from what we often see in games.

To celebrate the conclusion of Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace, a TV anime inspired by the strange fiction of Edogawa Rampo, Fuji TV is hosting a special event at their Multi Theater in Tokyo. In addition to screening episodes 10 and 11 of Rampo Kitan, the event will also include a guest talk featuring series director Seiji Kishi, series writer Makoto Uezu, producer Yūji Higa, and noitaminA editor-in-chief Akitoshi Mori.

 

 

The special event will take place on September 12, 2015, beginning at 2:00PM JST at the Fuji TV Multi Theater in Tokyo, Japan. Tickets to the event are available on a first-come-first-serve basis through an application form on the official Rampo Kitan Japanese home page.

 

 

The final story arc of Rampo Kitan: Game of Laplace is based on the short story "The Red Chamber" by Edogawa Rampo. It involves a secret club where gentlemen gather in search of the bizarre and the uncanny. Rampo Kitan is licensed for streaming in North America by Funimation.

Hakusensha has announced that the limited edition of the upcoming 15th volume of Sorata Akizuki's fantasy shoujo manga Akagami no Shirayukihime/Snow White with the Red Hair will come with a newly-produced 30-minute OAD mainly based on the 41st chapter featuring a date in the castle town by Shirayuki and Zen. The manga episode was included in the manga's 10th volume published in July 2013. The OAD will also use the episodes told in the two special chapters in the seventh and 11th volume, which have never been used in the ongoing TV anime.

 

Th same production team and voice cast are attached to the OAD project. Pre-orders for the 3,996-yen limited edition will be accepted till November 11. Both the regular and limited edition will be released on January 5, 2016.

We're big fans of Seattle-based "escape the room" designers Puzzle Break, so we teamed up with them to run a big, 100+ person party during PAX. The premise is simple: you're locked in a room with a group of other people and given one hour to find the key to escape. Most groups don't finish in time, but it's still the best team-building exercise ever. Turning a puzzle game into a multiplayer experience creates three distinct aspects of play: finding the clues, assembling those clues, and then using them to solve the puzzle. People who normally might not enjoy the solo experience of a traditional puzzle game, such as those who enjoy exploration or communication, will find lots to do here. Even traditional puzzle solvers will need to apply different types of logic to solve the wide variety of challenges in the room. This set-up allows everyone to display their talents, and rewards groups for having a diverse set of skills. It also teaches you a lot about the members of your team!
