Toshihiro Kawamoto got his start in 1986 anime movie Arion before going on to co-found anime studio Bones and, over the years, serving as animation director/character designer on anime sunch as 1991's Mobile Suit Gundam 0083 and 1998's Cowboy Bebop. These works, along with Wolf's Rain, the opening of which Kawamoto animated, will be the subject of a three decade retrospective at Tokyo Art Gallery "GoFa."

 

Recent Bones work has included character design on Blood Blockade Battlefront, animation direction on Space Dandy and both on Noragami.

 

Cels and original illustrations will be exhibited at the gallery between October 24 and November 11, with an autograph session on November 14th that launches a second phase that runs through the 29th.

Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash, a series of light novels written by Ao Jūmonji and illustrated by Eiri Shirai, is being adapted into a TV anime that will begin broadcasting in Japan in January of 2016. The series is written and directed by Ryôsuke Nakamura and features animation by A-1 Pictures. Mieko Hosoi provides the character designs.

 

 

Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash is a fantasy series in which a group of people find themselves transported to a mysterious realm and must band together in order to survive. The original light novel series is published in Japan by Overlap Bunko, and there are currently 6 volumes in print.

Paul Chapman is the host of The Greatest Movie EVER! Podcast and GME! Anime Fun Time.

It looks like dieselpunk anime Last Exile might be getting a follow-up to the 2003 Gonzo TV anime and 2011 follow-up,  Fam, the Silver Wing, or at least a movie version. Eirin, Japan's movie regulation board, has listed a G rating for a 1 hour, 59 minute feature called Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing - Over the wishes.

A description refers to the plot of the TV anime, with Fam aiding princess Millia as her home Turan Kingdom is attacked by the Ades Federation. 

 

FUNimation re-released the original anime in North America after an earlier Geneon distribution, and they then released the Fam TV anime.

Back in January Yoshiyuki Kaneko—also known as YOSHIKO—announced plans to crowdfund an anime project called Chuya-den, a short series of OVAs that revolves around a group of three children, supernatural yokai, and the opposing forces of day/night and good/evil. Now a new Kickstarter campaign is here with the goal of funding the four-part series of 24-minute chapters. 

 

YOSHIKO, animation production company WAO! WORLD, and AWESOME JAPAN, Inc. are looking to raise $100,000 over the course of the campaign. Backer rewards include a digital version of the anime for $25, a Blu-ray & DVD with Limited Edition Sleeve and your name on the website for $45, a print version of the Chuya-den manga (along with the other rewards) for $75, and so on.

Bartle's Taxonomy was the earliest attempt to break down player psychology in a multiplayer environment. Richard Bartle, who created the first MUD in 1978, interviewed the players of his games about why they played. Their responses fit into four categories, which we now call Achievers, Explorers, Socializers, and Killers. Achievers focus on in-game goals like getting high scores or collecting gold. Explorers seek to discover new locations on the map or new ways to use the mechanics. Socializers come to meet people, often organizing guilds or collecting on social forums. Killers seek to dominate other players, usually by killing them in PvP. Bartle went further than creating these four categories, however: he also mapped them to a graph with Action-Interaction on one axis and Player-World on the other. This simple graph helps developers evaluate new content: what category does it fall into, and therefore what type of gameplay does it encourage?

Last weekend, the 15th Machi Asobi anime/manga/game event was held in ufotable's hometown of Tokushima-city. Besides the anime talks and previews, one of the attractions was a gathering of anime-decorated automobiles known as itasha ("cars in pain"), the highlight of which was a Fate/stay night FerrariF430 (a model that debuted in 2004, the same year as the original FSN PC visual novel.)

 

Artist Takashi Takeuchi autographed the trim on the door presented by PlusOne. Along with Fate/extra Saber, Fate/Grand Order Saber and Fate/Stay Night Rin cosplayers, voice actors Kana Ueda (Rin) and Junichi Suwabe (Archer) stopped by to check it out.

The official website for 35-year-old anime voice actress/singer Maaya Sakamoto has announced that she will voice two characters in the Go! Princess PreCure anime series, Asuka Kitakaze in the 36th episode of the TV anime to be aired next Sunday and Refi's mother in the "PreCure to Refi no Wonder Night!" (PreCure and Refi's Wonder Night!) episode in the upcoming three-part film Go! Princess PreCure the Movie: Go! Go!! Gorgeous Triple Feature!!!. After gathering a pool of suggested titles on social media, Japanese site Anime! Anime! ran a questionnaire October 1 - 5, asking reader about what game they would like to see adapted into anime. From a pool of 1,400 responses, 70% of which were male, the Fate/ enthusiasm burned strong, putting its RPG at the #1 spot. Then, a #1 position among female voters put the Square Enix x Disney Kingdom Hearts at the #2 spot overall. #3 among females and #4 among males earned Danganronpa 2 a bronze.

Hyrule Warriors Legends, the upcoming 3DS version of Hyrule Warriors, the Warriors-style The Legend of Zelda game, is adding Skull Kid to their playable roster.

A special stage presentation, made ahead of a screening of the Yowamushi Pedal anime movie, has revealed plans for a third TV anime adaptation of Wataru Watanabe's sports manga. The cycling series was previously adapted into an October 2013-July '14 TV anime, and an October 2014-March '15 "Grande Road" followup, directed by Osamu Nabeshima at TMS/8PAN.

 

Specific plans, such as staff and broadcast schedule, will be revealed in follow-up announcements. Volume 42 of the ongoing Weekly Shōnen Champion manga series will be released November 6th.

 

The stage greeting took place October 6th at Tokyo's TOHO CINEMAS Nihonbashi and featured Daiki Yamashita, voice of Sakamichi Onoda and Tsubasa Yonaga, voice of Sangaku Manami. The original movie itself opened in Japan August 28th, 2015, following compilation movies in September 2014 and June 2015.

Takashi Miike, the prolific and shocking director whose reputation exploded internationally with the adaptation of manga Ichi the Killer, also attached to adaptations of manga Salaryman Kintaro, MPD Psycho, Crows Zero, Mogura no Uta, Kami-sama no Iu Toori,and recent Tachibana and Yū Sasuga's violent sci-fi TerraFormars, now has another big manga project on his slate: Hiroaki Samura's Blade of the Immortal.

 

The 2017 film will feature SMAP's Takuya Kimura (Howl's Moving Castle's Howl, Susumu Kodai in live-action Space Battleship Yamado) as the titular immortal swordsman Manji, returning to period film work after 2006's Love and Honor - the final movie in Yoji Yamada's acclaimed Samurai Trilogy.

 

The 1993-2012 30-volume (31 in English) series was released in North America by Dark Horse. A 2008 Bee Train production adapted the series nto a TV anime.

 

Dark Horse describes it

"To end his eternal suffering, he must slay one thousand enemies!" Manji, a ronin warrior of feudal Japan, has been cursed with immortality. To rid himself of this curse and end his life of misery, he must slay one thousand evil men! Elecom, a Japanese electronics company, has produced a new set of blue-light reducing glasses for children patterned after Conan Edogawa's "Criminal Tracking Glasses" from Cased Closed (aka Detective Conan).

 

The glasses are designed to cut down on the blue end of the visible light spectrum emitted by televisions, computer monitors, smart phones, and other similar electronic devices. Reducing blue light is believed to help reduce eyestrain.

 

 

 

 

The glasses come with three types of lenses: clear, brown, and 'mirror (map)'. The frames also have a pop-up antenna which is activated with the twist of a dial.

 

 

 

 

The manufacturer notes that these glasses will not actually give you the ability to track criminals. They're just a fun prop that is intended to reduce eyestrain while kids play video games and surf the Internet. The glasses will go on sale starting in October of 2015, although no set price has been listed yet.

Following Tsubomi Hanasaki and Erika Kurumi to be released next month, Japanese retailers including Toei Animation's official online store today start accepting pre-orders for two more HeartCatch PreCure! character figures from Megahouse's Sekai Seifuku Sakusen (World Uniform Operation) line, Itsuki Myodoin and Yuri Tsukikage. The 7th PreCure TV anime series was aired in Japan from February 2010 to January 2011, becoming one of the most commercially successful installments in the over 10-year-old franchise.

 

The "Sekai Seifuku Sakusen" line was launched in September 2014 to focus on releasing popular anime girl figures in their school uniforms. It previously released Nagisa and Honoka from the first installment Futari wa PreCure, and Love, Setsuna, Inori, and Miki from the sixth installment Fresh PreCure!. The price for both 1/10th scale figures is 7,992 yen (about 67 US dollars) and their scheduled shipping date is in late March of 2016.

Publisher Kodansha is looking to extend light novel readership to other book lovers and light novel fans looking to stay interested in the format with its new Taiga imprint. Two of the writers prepared for its October 20th debut are Hiroshi Mori and the ever popular Monogatari author Nisio Isin. Cover art for the latter has now been showcased.

Nisio Isin will be introducing his new Bishounen Tanteidan - Kimi Dake ni Hikari Kagayaku Ankokusei (Pretty Boy Detective Team - The Dark Star That Only Shines for You), with figures and logo designed by Veia (Sekirei) and illustration by Gatchaman Crowds original character designer kamabokoita.
