Yen Press to Publish "Fruits Basket", "Liselotte & Witch's Forest", and "Twinkle Stars"

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Yen Press has announced that beginning in 2016, they will be publishing a trio of shōjo manga works by Natsuki Takaya, including a new English language translation of Fruits Basket. In addition to Fruits Basket, Yen Press will also be publishing Liselotte & Witch's Forest and Twinkle Stars, which have not previously been released in North America.

Yen Press describes each series as follows:

"Fruits Basket is the story of Tohru Honda, a young girl who – following the untimely deaths of her parents – finds herself living in a tent on land belonging to the Sohma family. When the family takes her in, she discovers their rather unusual “curse”: possessed by spirits of the Chinese Zodiac, they transform into their zodiac animal when embraced by someone of the opposite sex."

"In Liselotte & Witch’s Forest, titular character Liselotte holds out hope of finding an important person from her past, but her quest leads her to a forest rumored to be inhabited by witches."

"Sakuya, the lead character of Twinkle Stars, has always been mesmerized by the night sky, but when she meets a boy at her eighteenth birthday party, she discovers that the stars may actually have more to do with her fate than she ever imagined."

Fruits Basket will be published in 12 volumes, and the first 2 volumes will be released in June of 2016 with additional volumes following at the rate of 1 per month afterwards. Liselotte & Witch's Forest will begin publication with the first volume being released in July of 2016 with new volumes following at a rate of 1 every three months. Twinkle Star will be published in 5 omnibus volumes, but the release schedule for this series has not been revealed yet.

___________

Consoles take a complicated route to get from us - all the way from being minerals in the ground to being assembled in factories across the world. A close look at how this happens reveals ethical and logistical difficulties worth talking about. Varying labor laws, outsourced work, and even worker reluctance make factories hard to inspect for good working conditions. Further down the chain, the raw minerals used in consoles often come from war-torn regions such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, where local militias seize control of the mines and use them to raise funds to propagate their brutal civil war. The electronics industry has gotten better about rejecting conflict minerals, but it's far from perfect. Microsoft and Sony are part of industry organizations to track and reduce abuse along supply chains, but Nintendo has only made small steps and simply refuses to collaborate with the rest of the tech industry to help solve this problem. Console manufacturers can still do more by putting a bigger focus on supply chain audits, voicing support for laws that would improve nationwide standards, being vocal to draw attention to these issues, and giving factories a bigger lead time for product launches. As consumers, we need to understand the impact our demand for launch day console availability has on pushing more unsafe labor practices and consider whether a small price increase (perhaps as little as $5) to guarantee that our consoles were manufactured without conflict minerals would really be too much of a price to pay.

20th "Detective Conan" Film Title & Teaser Visual Revealed

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Crunchyroll previously reported on a teaser video that hinted that the 20th installment in the Detective Conan series of anime theatrical films (known as Case Closed in North America) would involve a confrontation between series protagonist Conan Edogawa and the mysterious Black Organization, the evil crime syndicate that is responsible for trapping him in his child-like state after a failed assassination attempt.

Now this speculation appears to be confirmed, because a new teaser visual (above) has been released along with the official title of the 20th film: Detective Conan: Junkoku no Nightmare ("Nightmare of Pure Black").

Detective Conan: Junkoku no Nightmare is scheduled to hit Japanese theaters on April 16, 2016.
