Wild Instincts Take Over in BEASTARS TV Anime Trailer

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

A new preview video and new broadcast information have been revealed for BEASTARS, an upcoming TV anime based on the critically-acclaimed manga by Paru Itagaki about an elite academy of animal people that is rocked by a gruesome murder.

The original BEASTARS manga is serialized in Akita Shoten's Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine, and the BEASTARS TV anime features animation production by Orange. The series will broadcast as part of Fuji TV's "+Ultra" programming block beginning in October of 2019, and it will also stream exclusively on Netflix.

Viz Media is developing an English language release for BEASTARS, and they describe the story of the series as follows:

At a high school where the students are literally divided into predators and prey, it’s personal relationships that maintain the fragile peace. Who among them is a Beastar—an academic and social role model destined to become a leader in a society naturally rife with mistrust?

Last night at Cherryton Academy, an herbivore student was killed and eaten. Among the members of the drama club, the herbivores’ suspicions naturally turn to their carnivore classmates… The prime suspect? Legosi, a large wolf. But he wouldn’t hurt a fly—or would he? And will dwarf rabbit Haru bring out the beast in him? Or are his feelings for her…something else?

The Rising of the Shield Hero Series Has Printed Impressive 4 Million Copies in Japan

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com
Alainmendez

God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?

On the release day of the novel series' latest 21st volume in Japan, it was announced on the author Aneko Yusagi's official blog that The Rising of the Shield Hero fantasy series has printed an impressive four million copies (including one million by its manga adaptations) in Japan since its launch in August 2013.

PS Vita Production is About to Come to an End in Japan

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

The end of PS Vita's life has been much slower in Japan than it was elsewhere. There are still games coming out for it, but that's about to change as Sony begins to wind down production on the portable itself.

The official Japanese PlayStation site updated with some new information, adding that "shipments are scheduled to end soon" for the final two PS Vita models in production. The models in question are the PCH-2000 ZA11 (black) and PCH-2000 ZA23 (aqua blue). There's currently no exact end date for production, but it sounds like there isn't too much life left in what has been a relatively solid platform since it launched in 2011.

It's a shame Sony didn't continue to support it with new software all around the world. Do you have fond memories of your time with PS Vita? What are some of your favorite games? Let's wax poetic about it in the comments!

Okko's Inn Anime Film Hits U.S. Theaters in April of 2019

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

GKIDS and Fathom Events are teaming up once again for two days of screenings of the 2018 theatrical anime film, Okko's Inn (known as Wakaokami wa Shogakusei! in Japan), at some 500 select U.S. cinemas on April 22 & 23, 2019.

The film will screen in an English dubbed format on Monday, April 22 at 7:00PM local time, and in the original Japanese language with English subtitles on Tuesday, April 23 at 7:00PM local time.

GKIDS describes the story of Okko's Inn as follows:

After losing her parents in a car accident, Okko goes to live in the countryside with her grandmother, who runs a traditional Japanese inn built on top of an ancient spring said to have healing waters. While she goes about her chores and prepares to become the inn's next caretaker, Okko discovers there are spirits who live there that only she can see - not scary ones, but welcoming ghosts who keep her company, play games and help her navigate her new environment. The inn's motto is that it welcomes all and will reject none, and this is soon put to the test as a string of new guests challenge Okko's ability to be a gracious host. But ultimately Okko discovers that dedicating herself to others becomes the key to taking care of herself.

Based on the series of children's books written by Hiroko Reijo and illustrated by Asami, Okko's Inn is directed by Kitarō Kōsaka and features animation production by MADHOUSE. For more information about the film, including theaters and ticket sales, please visit the official Okko's Inn event pages at GKIDS here or at Fathom Events here.

Fate/GO Surpasses Fortnite as 2018's Most Tweeted About Game

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

If you had to name 2018's most talked about game, what would it be? If you said Fortnite... well, you come in second.

According to the big blue bird themselves, mobile game Fate/Grand Order took the top spot on their platform, with Fortnite coming in at #2. Close behind were Monster Strike, Splatoon, and PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Also sneaking their way into the Top 10 were Granblue Fantasy, Super Smash Bros., and perennial favorite Final Fantasy.

It doesn't hurt that Japan was ranked as the most talkative country when it came to gaming, with the US and UK coming in at #2 and #3, respectively. France and Korea rounded out the Top 5.

One place the West took the lead in gaming, though, was in most talked about gaming events—E3 took the top spot, with Tokyo Game Show coming in second.

Rumiko Takahashi Wins Big at Angoulême with Grand Prix 2019 Prize

by news+feed@crunchyroll.com

Last week we posted about legendary mangaka Rumiko Takahashi—creator of classics ranging from Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2, and Urusei Yatsura to InuYasha and RIN-NE—being one of the three finalists for the 46th Angoulême International Comics Festival's prestigious Grand Prix d’Angoulême, which honors the recipient's complete lifetime body of work. Now for the update we've all been waiting for: She won!

Takahashi was up against two other comics greats, Chris Ware and Emmanuel Guibert, so the victory is no small feat. This lifetime achievement award also means she gets to be the marshal of the 2020 event, so look forward to a Rumiko Takahashi exhibit next year.

The last manga author to win the Grand Prix was Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo in 2015.
